After much delay and shuffling in its star cast, Ram Gopal Varma 's much-talked-about remake of Sholay will go on the floors in September.
Just when the doomsayers had begun to call Ramu's ambitious modern-day remake of 'Sholay' a "jinxed project", the filmmaker seems adamant to prove his detractors wrong. He has almost finalized the star cast of the film. And he is looking forward to begin its shooting in September.
Ramu says the film has been getting delayed because of certain problems in his production company The Factory. He has been sorting out "problems at creative and financial level".
And now that the things are streamlined, Ramu is eager to begin the film's shooting.
Ramu says his 'Sholay' will be very different from Ramesh Sippy's classic. While the film's story will stay loyal to the original, the setting would be very modern. For instance, Gabbar Singh will be given a much larger persona. He will be shown as a criminal on an international level.
In the last few days Ramu has had meetings with actors Manoj Bajpai and Sushant Singh for the role of Sambha (Gabbar Singh's henchman) in the film. Sushant has been finalized for the part.
Ramu has made it clear time and again that no actor in the film is indispensable except Amitabh Bachchan , who plays Gabbar Singh.
Mohit Ahlawat will play the role of the reticent Jai, while Ajay Devgan will play the hilarious Veeru. Katrina Kaif will play the widow Radha. South Indian actor Mohanlal will play Thakur.
The film will have Urmila Matondkar in the item number 'Mehbooba Mehbooba'. Himesh Reshammiya is the film's music director.
Ramu hopes to complete the film's shooting by this year end.
