Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay is not doomed
30th Aug 2006 19.00 IST
By ApunKaChoice

After much delay and shuffling in its star cast, Ram Gopal Varma 's much-talked-about remake of Sholay will go on the floors in September.

Just when the doomsayers had begun to call Ramu's ambitious modern-day remake of 'Sholay' a "jinxed project", the filmmaker seems adamant to prove his detractors wrong. He has almost finalized the star cast of the film. And he is looking forward to begin its shooting in September.

Ramu says the film has been getting delayed because of certain problems in his production company The Factory. He has been sorting out "problems at creative and financial level".

And now that the things are streamlined, Ramu is eager to begin the film's shooting.

Ramu says his 'Sholay' will be very different from Ramesh Sippy's classic. While the film's story will stay loyal to the original, the setting would be very modern. For instance, Gabbar Singh will be given a much larger persona. He will be shown as a criminal on an international level.

In the last few days Ramu has had meetings with actors Manoj Bajpai and Sushant Singh for the role of Sambha (Gabbar Singh's henchman) in the film. Sushant has been finalized for the part.

Ramu has made it clear time and again that no actor in the film is indispensable except Amitabh Bachchan , who plays Gabbar Singh.

Mohit Ahlawat will play the role of the reticent Jai, while Ajay Devgan will play the hilarious Veeru. Katrina Kaif will play the widow Radha. South Indian actor Mohanlal will play Thakur.

The film will have Urmila Matondkar in the item number 'Mehbooba Mehbooba'. Himesh Reshammiya is the film's music director.

Ramu hopes to complete the film's shooting by this year end.

Sonu & Himesh at war?
By MIO Team
Sep 20, 2006, 08:12

Its been heard that there is a catfight going between Sonu Nigam and Himesh Reshammiya for sometime now. And as they are both touring the US currently, things got more obvious there. Himesh who drools himself into controversies for the wrong reasons apparently is to be blamed this time too. Rumours are that he said that he's the better singer among the two and that Sonu's time as a singer has passed. It is believed that Himesh even accused Sonu of copying his look, now that Sonu has grown a beard. Also there are competitions going on between the two in the concerts. Each singer's camp is asserting to be doing better than the other.

When asked this is what Sonu says, "I don't want to comment on the issue. I never said anything against Himesh in the first place, so why should I indulge in this controversy? That will be cheap. I'm not one to talk about my own concerts. People can check the Internet to see the response for themselves. Himesh is a colleague and I respect all my colleagues. I never take my work or work-related issues home, so I don't want to talk about this."

But Himesh denies saying anything against Sonu. "There is absolutely nothing wrong between us. I respect him too much to say such unpleasant things about him. Besides, it's not in my character to do these sorts of things. We have had no fight whatsoever, this is just some rumour that someone has started."

Qwest ji, I know you dont listen to a lot of new songs but this is THE ONLY song of HR that I actually like. The lyrics and Pt Sanjeev Abhyankar's vocals and Sivamani's play on the drums.
If you get a chance, do listen to it...

Didn't like "bajuband khul khul jaaye" though. I would rather listen to Ust Faiyyaz Khan saaheb's version...

Why are you people badmouthing Himesh. His North American tour was a huge success, he has a super fan club here, and a lot of people I have talked to have said that his music makes them happy, they want to get up and dance. If you dont have anything good to say about him, pls shut up. He has given Himani, Vinit and Abhijeet Sawant a fantastic exposure by bringing them on his Ap Ka Surroor tour. He has also given Hemachandra an opportunity to become a playback singer.

sylvester ji, Thanks for taking time to visit this thread. You are the one who is badmouthing and telling people to shut up there is about 13+page been posted here I did not see any one to do any kind of badmouthing to Himesh. Please you need to learn how talk in public forum.More over if you have seen the 1st page I did wrote that Let me make one thing very clear that I will dedicate this thread to Himesh Reshammiya -about his good, bad and ugly. I will do my best to both appreciate and criticize him. And one other point, I will also post all news and magazine articles as well as everything from the INTERNET. I think the key is balance. We all have good and bad within us. Sometimes, our bad stretches to ugly too. I dont think any person is free of this. Rest all is virtual reality.
