Shady, i agree with you..

I have an idea.. why not do this... post the song name and those who can find the song can post the link... now, everyone can listen to this and post their own views too.. So, that will heat up the discussion 😊

Thanks Shady and srgmp, appreciate your points.

Maybe we dont have the indepth knowledge of music, but we can surely share our experiences when hearing them and the reasons why it appealed to us.

I can remember the Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar dil kehtha hai woh kehne do.... from the movie Junglee.

This song was sung by Mohd. Rafi Saab and by Lata Mangeshkar.

After hearing Rafi saab literally plead with his lady love to accept his love... you have high expectations in the female version, which for some strange reason is not so good.

Why it is so, just like you, I do not have the knowledge of raagas or music to determine what is missing in it, suffice to say that the soul of the song is missing in the female version.

"Tumne mujhko hasna sikhaya...
rone kaho ge ro lenge ab... rone kaho ge ro lenge ab..

aassoon ka humare gam na karo.. woh behthe hain toh behne do..
mujhe tumse mobahhat ho gayi... palkhon ki chaoon mein rehne do...."

It is not difficult to imagine Shammi Kapoor emote this song and it is so so beautiful.

Then when you hear the female version, it is almost listless. Maybe it had to do with a beautiful but pale Saira banu acting the song on screen.

nice topic priya... 👏
although almost all songs which were sung both by male and female singers like 'zindagi bhar nahin bhoolegi' and countless others...the male versions were bigger hits and had better impact, except rarely like

"aji roothkar ab kahan'jayega"(aarzoo)

lata's version was better than rafi's

Very interesting topic Priya ji, It is good topic to compare different singers. It tells you which singer you are biased towards. It gives you a shocking realization that some other singer may sing the song better than your favorite singer.

I think the comparisons are interesting but may not be fair. The most important thing is what is genre of the song and which singer is known to be good in that genre and obviously will have a huge advantage to sing it.

I recently heard this song carefully to make comparisons

The song is

Hum ko tum se ho gaya hai pyar kya karein, bolo to jiyen bolo to mar jayein.. (film: Amar Akbar Anthony)

This is one song sung by Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar

Kishore Kumar is known to sing this genre of song too well, So obviously Kishore Kumar breeze through the first stanza of the song effortlessly

Than come Mukesh for whom this genre is completely alien but he surprized me by taking his voice to such a high. So I would say he met the expectations.

In between there is Lata ji singing, I must say for some strange reason, my mind would wander away..probably has heard this voice sooo much and a point comes when you find the voice stale..

Than comes the mighty Rafi. I would say it is not the best genre in which he sing songs at his best.I would say he far exceeded all the expectations.

It is hard to say who sang the best. But it is easy to say I didn't like the lata lines too much..Mukesh was trying hard at this out of genre song.

Kishore Kumar voice made me feel that it is sung by some macho man and Mohammad Rafi voice made me feel it is sung by some very handsome romantic person. To tell you frankly, I like both Rafi and Kishore but I am more of a Rafian..

This one came to my mind when I read the post.

Song from Mirza galib sung by many singers but I like the one sung by Talat Mehmood & suraiya

Song: Dile nadan tuze hua kya hai

Another such song which comes to mind immediately is the RDB "Kuch na Kaho..." sung by Lata Ji and Kumar Sanu.

No guesses for whose is a better renderition.

The height to which Lata Ji takes the song is just missing in Sanu's song. A well sung song.... but you hear Lata ji songs and the feel, the rich texture to the song is something else. It is almost as if the music takes a new life in that song.

i see we are talking alot on legends, and songs, who sang itbetter. Now moving to Present time take 4 instance Ya Aliby Zubeem. Its highly popular, yet as some mentioed its rip off of another singer. My question is who sang itbetter him or the previous singer?

P/S

Also there is an Arabic group who sang this songbefore Zubeem.
