One song where I thought Lata-bai's version scored over Rafi-saab's version is

Teri aankhon ke siwa duniya me rakkha kya hai...
Yeh uthe subah chale, yeh jhuke shaam dhale..
Mera jeena, mera marna inhi palkon ke tale...

I find lot more passion and pathos in Lata-bai's version here... Again, I think lyrics play a big part why Lata-bai probably scores here......

Yeh ho kahin inka saaya mere dil se jaata nahi...
Inke siwa ab to kuchh bhi nazar mujhko aata nahi... (Latabai's version)

Somehow leaves a deeper impression than

Inme mere aanewaley zamaane ki tasveer hai...
Chahat ke kaajal se likhee hui meri taqdeer hai... (Rafi saab's version)

Is it just me, or others also feel that the lyrics, musical arrangement abd situation of the song in the movie are the key reasons why one version of the song sounds better than the other... the singing if we notice gets largely influenced by the situation in which the song plays in the movie as the singer needs to present the correct emotion for the moment in his/her voice...

I think you are right. It has happened many times that I didn't really like a song that much until I saw the video for it and saw the situation behind it, which helped me understand the meaning of the song more.

nice thread.

There is a song "dil Dhoondta hai phir wahi fursat k raat din " a slow version sung by Bhupinder and a faster version sung by lata Mangeshkar and Bhupinder both.

The slower version really taks you down memory lane and is beautiful whereas the faster version lacks the depth and feeling brought out so well by BHupinder in the slower version.
In fact, i could not recall the faster version at all ( I had to listen to it again before i could comment) but one only by Bhupinder is always there with me...i love the song.

I think the fast version has both Bhupinder and Lata. She sings the main parts and he sings the chorus. I like the raag in faster version a little better.

I just listened to "Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hain" from Woh Lamhe. and its a lift from "Tak Bisakah" by a Malay band called "Peterpan".

I loooooved KK's version because it was much more soulful and full of substance. the Malay version is nice as well, but a bit... cold... like when you check the toaster to find that your bread's gone stale.

here r links for both songs:
