No guesses for whose is a better renderition.

The height to which Lata Ji takes the song is just missing in Sanu's song. A well sung song.... but you hear Lata ji songs and the feel, the rich texture to the song is something else. It is almost as if the music takes a new life in that song.

Call me biased if you want..but I feel had Kishor Kumar sung the male version of "kuch na kaho"..it would have been a different story..

A very rich male voice can carry the song better than a female voice..

I too beleive so. Which is why I said, in comparison, it is but obvious that Lata ji will stand out.

But a male baritone would certainly do far more justice to the song than what the current singer did, with due credit to him.

I wonder what it was of kishorda that got us so "into" him..

He could carry off any song on his shoulder..

whether it was...dekha na hian re....or jhoomrooo..or rimjhim geere sawan...or chingari koi bharke..or mere naina sawan bhado..or zindagi ka safar or...badi suni suni hain...or anuy other song

In his songs you feel the moments with him..as if its the moments standing out and calling you and saying ..take note..feel it...

I just love him....😳

No you cannot compare Lataji and Kishorda, they are both experts in their own fields ..but when they are singing the same song, depending on the moods or moment of the songs sometimes a male voice carries it a little better than a female voice & its impact is more and vice versa..

For example if both of them were to sing "aye mere vatan ke logo" - i am sure lataji's would touch us more because of the pain, the sacrifice, the mamta..the emotion.. its so motherly as if a mother is crying for her sons.

Like wise in mere naina sawaan bhado, Kishor kumar's version sounds a lot more haunting than Lataji's.

I think most of the times it is the situation of the song in the film, that makes all the difference.. A more sombre situation many a times provides scope for better lyrics in one version of the song and a better musical arrangement too... Together with this, the soulful rendition of the song makes it more appealing to the heart... so it never really a question of who sings it better, but more of who gets the song in a better situation in the movie... And since most of our movies are very hero-centric, we often see that the male version of the song is better placed situationally, and hence strikes the chord....

Many of the songs cited already prove that point... I will add the song 'Rim Jhim gire saawan, sulag sulag jaaye man'... another classic case where Kishore'da appeals lot more to the heart than Lata-bai....

But yes, as Priya pointed out 'Kuchh na kaho' was always Lata-bai's song, and again if we see, she gets the sadder version of the song, and hence appeals lot lot more to us - ofcourse we are not even comparing her voice quality to Kumar Sanu here...

One song that comes to mind is Khilte Hain Gul Yahan which has two versions, one by Kishoreda and one by Lataji.

Now I don't know much about music but I rather like Lata's version better. In her version of the song (to my ears)she kind of lets go of her voice a little bit when she sings it which is really cool. This generally happens when she goes into the stanzas, like
pyaasa hai dil sanam, pyaasi yeh raat hai...

she stretches the pyaasa out in a really beautiful way that adds soo much more meaning to the song.

Not to say that Kishoreda's version wasn't brilliant as well, I just like hers better.
