chachaji, I am mentioning about the singers in SRGMP 2002. They were a chain of singers and all of them did well. Abhijeet Goshaal was also from that series.

That was the time I had to stop watching SRGMP, so I dont know who you are talking about.....😉. I wish somehow we could see all those videos....😕.

But I also wanted to confirm about another singer in the old SRGM named Jaswinder Singh. Now there is a ghazal singer named Jaswinder Singh. Are they the same person, I tried looking it up but could not really confirm. If he is the same person then he has come up with a couple of nice ghazal albums and is patronized by none other than Jagjit Singh ji.

Any thoughts on that...?

Not sure, but are you people talking about Shampa Kundu? If yes, she is quite a successful singer in Bengal now and has many hit albums to her credit.

Wow, but Ronkini Gupta in II-1 was just 20 years old. How old she must have been in SRGM, looks like she might have been one of the earlier contestants. Thus the age does not seem to match.... 😕

I saw Ronkini for the first time on roll-over series ( Sa re ga ma pa) and later on she came in Popular Choice ( she lost to Sudeshna Ganguly in Semifinal) that was in 2004...and she participated in Indian Idol in 2004 ..and i am sure that its the same Ronkini...

I think Sampa Kundu was a participant in the TVS SRGM, much before the Shaan hosted SRGMP. so probably they are talking about someone else, if I am not wrong.

I was not familiar with the name Shweta Pandit, until we came across the information accidently. So for those who are not familiar with the name, she is another one of Saregama's winners (I think as a child) and has now sung in Mohabbatein.

'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa''s camera rolls in Mumbai again

Indiantelevision.com Team

(15 April 2004 2:00 pm)

MUMBAI: After the success of Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa's World Series in Dubai, the team is back in Mumbai again with yet another series called the Popular Choice.

The shooting for this series wound up on Wednesday in Film City.

Anchored by Shaan, Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, has, over the years, identified and nurtured many a talent in the music industry and has provided a platform to the budding singers. Amongst others, some of the talents who have already achieved success through this platform are Sanjivni Bhelande of Nikamma , Mohd. Salamat who gave his voice in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Shreya Ghosal who tasted success with Devdas and Jism and Sweta Pandit who has sung in Mohabbatein.

Celebrating life

With impressive playback numbers to her credit and an inspiring musical lineage, Shweta Pandit is the new face of Indi-pop raring to go with her debut album 'Main zindagi hoon.'
SHE GREW up listening to Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi and dotes on Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. At the age of five she worked with Ilayaraja for Anjali and recently with Ustad Zakir Hussain for Saaz. And with Ankhen khuli from Mohabbatein and title track for Aap mujhe ache lagne lage to her credit, plus playback for the forthcoming Soch and Haasil, Shweta Pandit currently is the new face in the Indi-pop industry. Celebrating life, the 16-year-old just did that with her debut album Mein zindagi hoon. "Being a playback singer, entering into the pop world is a different feeling altogether. Learning the different aspects related to pop singing was a great experience. As for the video, it was fun doing it, though I felt nervous in the beginning because I never faced a camera before," says the unassuming Shweta with an impressive lineage transcending four generations in music. Shweta happens to be the niece of the Jatin-Lalit duo and grand-niece of Pandit Jasraj. Trained in the Mewati gharana of classical vocal tradition, she is as enthused about the light music genre having obtained training from grandfather Pandit Pratap Narain and father Vishwaraj Pandit for the two streams respectively. "Having sung in films since childhood, I was naturally more into playback. But personally, I enjoy both the worlds -- of learning classical music and singing in films and I think classical training is very important," she says. She reflects the same in her debut album with a constant fresh note - be it rendering the Babuji dheere chalna or the lively contemporary mix Main zindagi hoon in sync with the energetic music composed by Shameer Tandon, also the marketing manager, Virgin Records, for the album. With over a hundred jingles and audio-visuals for ICICI, Mahindra and Mahindra, McDonalds, Coke and other leading houses, Shameer has also been instrumental in promoting international artistes as also the Indian pop stars such as Shaan and Alisha. "In my long association with Virgin Records, I've interacted with several new artistes. With playbacks and albums to her credit, Shweta comes up as focused and committed to music, ready to give 200 per cent to a project. Her voice is generic, which is suitable for every song. Besides, she has a fresh texture to her voice, which makes her versatile and vibrant. I think she will go a long way in the music world," says Shameer.

As for Shweta, it is going to be a versatile career, having cut an album in Sanskrit recently with Pandit Jasraj and looking forward to do regional languages too. "Playback is always going to be there. I love facing the mike and it is the greatest satisfaction and happiness that I get. Where do I go from here? Well, I want to be a good singer and would want to be known as a versatile artiste," she says.
