Thank you for your replies. I was about to give up as I thought nobody is reading these posts.

Actually kaafi ssare logo gayab nahin hue hain, hamein kucch ke baare mein pata nahin hai.

Another TVS SRGM performer is doing very well in the Bengali Music industry. She is actually a household name there.

Shampa Kundu

Shampa Kundu came into the limelight with her brilliant performances in the TVS Saregama talent hunt. Her flowing voice is eminently suitable for the numbers she chooses to sing in her remake albums.

The West Bengal State Music Akademi has played a pivotal role in nurturing many talents under the guidance of some senior exponents. By the time results started showing, it was in troubled waters. In the wake of its silver jubilee celebrations at Rabindra Sadan last month, the Akademi is keen on an image makeover. As Sandhya Mukhopadhyay inaugurated the celebrations with her lyrical soprano touching the romantic high at Rabindra Sadan, the house-full auditorium witnessed the performance of the Akademi's bright students.

Standing tall on her enviable expression and musical acumen, Rajashri Bhattacharya regaled with her Rabindrasangeet. Rachayita Roy's takes on Tagore's spring melodies was far from a regulation selection. Yet the recitals by two of the leading lights of the genre got diluted by the indiscriminate use of octopad, synthesiser and guitar. Tagore singers worth their art should object to such travesty in the name of accompaniment. Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta demonstrated how minimal accompaniment can reap rich harvests during the rendition of Ami tomay jato and Jadi prem dile na prane. She was supported by keyboard and a handful of beats played on the tabla by the experienced Dipankar Acharya.

Nazrul had a fair share of attention. Shampa Kundu did a smart work of Srijan chhande anande. This Tilak-Kamod melody set on jhaptal demands a flair for rhythm, which Kundu had in abandon.

The Adhunik Gaan of the 1960s and 70s were sung by Sutapa Basu. Ajoy Chakraborty continued to refashion the sentimental favourites of the past, thereby exercising tremendous pressure on our collective listening experience.

Thank you again and here is some more information.....Swapnil won the TVS SRGM in 1996....

Swapnil ke sang
Dharam Pal

Swapnil hspace3A popular singer, Swapnil has been singing devotional, pop, semi-classical, natya sangeet, folk and remixes for music companies like Sagarika Music, Tips, T. Series, Venus, Magnasound, Times Music and Wings Music to name a few. His first pop album in Hindi Sang Sang Ho Tum should help him gain a wider appeal.

A known name in Mumbai, Swapnil has worked with great music composers like Ravinder Jain, Vishal Bhardwaj, Amar Utpal, Ashok Patki, Shridhar Phadke, Shrirang Aras, Kedar Pandit and Nandu Honap. "I am working towards singing more Hindi songs, and this album has been the first step towards bringing me closer to the North Indian listeners," announces the singer.

This album experiments with new sounds. Its music has been composed by the talented duo Ajay-Atul. The lyrics have been penned by none other than Shyam Anuragi, who has given numerous hits to the Indi-pop world for the past 10 years.

"This album is the result of a number of brain-storming sessions between me and Ajay-Atul, who set the tunes and the result was amazing," Swapnil notes with a hint of pride in his voice.

Initiated into the world of classical music at the tender age of four, Swapnil started learning vocal classical from Pandit Vasantrao Kulkarni. Since then he has travelled a long and illustrious path in the world of Indian film music. Swapnil gave his first stage performance at the age of four and since then he has performed all over the world in countries like Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, the USA and Bangladesh. He performs on a regular basis with artistes like Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Subramaniam, Sadhna Sargam and Sonu Nigam.

Swapnil received the All-India Scholarship for Hindustani Classical from the government in 1984. He is at present under the guidance of Suresh Wadkar and is also associated with Suresh Wadkar's music academy, which encourages and helps young talent in the music industry.

Swapnil has lent his voice to scores of TV serials, albums, plays, films, etc. He has sung in various languages like Hindi, Marathi Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Punjabi and Oriya. His versatility is amply visible by the fact that he has recorded more than 2000 songs.

Swapnil was recently awarded the Alpha Gaurav Puruskar-2003 for Best Male Artiste in the basic album category. One of the winners of TVS Saregama in 1996, he has been anchoring the famous Raag Ek Rang Anek, a Marathi musical competition telecast on Doordarshan. He has also acted in a musical play, Sangeet Aradhana, produced by Nehru Centre at Mumbai.

The album Sang Sang Ho Tum has eight melodious tracks which explore the range and versatility of the artiste. The music video of the track Sang Sang Ho Tum... has shot on exotic locales of Rajathan by Collosus, India's top video director. The video features Rima Lamba (Mallika Sherawat) and Baljeet Singh.

Tnx. I used to follow SRGM in the earlier days regularly, but since I had to leave my home for studies I absolutey lost touch when Shaan became the host. Thats why I have missed the intermediate episodes with the newer singers. It will be great if we get some inputs from about these singers as well.

Going back to the early days of SRGM, there was singer called Balram, I think in the very first year. There is an upcoming playback singer in the South Indian movies. I wonder if he is the same person.

Could find an image, otherwise would have recognized him, I still remember him.

If he is the same person then some information in bits and pieces about his songs here-

Neeve Naa Jaatiya Geetam

P Balaram & Chitra
AM Ratnam & Siva Ganesh

This duet song is sung in a traditional 'jaatiyageetam' style. A debutant singer P Balaram has sung this song. P Balaram's voice resembles that of PB Srinivas. AR Rehman must be commended to choose new voices for his songs. Chitra also rendered her husky voice in parts for this song.

Our South Indian friends would be able to throw more light on him.....

I thought this was very interesting too. This is an edited version of the article I came across...

In sync with Indi pop

The Aurko band, which has performed at many of the big shows has turned out into a 13-member robust and organised group in a short span.

SUMA TEKUR

Year: 2000. Venue: NIAS auditorium. Time: 5 pm. Event: Bangalore's Indipop band Aurko performs for the first time on stage. Result: An amateurish performance by five members, who were but mere pieces of music attempted to be brought together by coordinators Arundhati and Alok Biswas.

Cut to April 2004. Aurko boasts of a thirteen-member gang and, perhaps, the most well thought out and organised band, complete with a sound engineer, a sound coordinator, a backstage manager, a photographer to take exclusive shots of their performances and even a designer to design their album covers.

That the album has been "on the verge" of release for the last two years is a different issue.

"Time is a major constraint for all of us. We come from different backgrounds and Sundays and holidays are the only days we get to meet," says Supratik Ghosh, lead vocalist, brainchild of the band and its spokesperson.

Aurko has performed at over a 100 corporate shows including college festivals.

Some of their performances include the Fuji Film launch with Aishwarya Rai in 2003, Gujarat Fund raiser concert with Ameen Sayani in 2002, Indian cricket team's bash at Golden Spa, Coffee Day National Rally, Chikmagalur, 2003, Levis Great Indian Huddle 2003 and Philips Software 2004 and more.

When the band first started playing together, what the members had in common was that they were all winners of the popular television show TVS Saregama apart from the fact that they are Bengalis.

On August 23, 2003, the band held auditions and there are four new and young entrants in the band.

Female lead vocalist Ujjainee flies in from Chennai every time they have a show.
The band believes that being a purely Indipop band, they have been able to catch the pulse of the musical needs of a Bangalorean.
