There is a very valid reason for her action .... but let me give you some figures related to hearing and noise first .

Intensity level of sound during normal conversation : 60db

Threashold for pain :120-140 db

and imagine, what is the intensity level of an average concert ....

it is 90-130db ....

imagine if you are sitting infront of speakers emitting sound of that much intensity!!!!!!

the normal body response to such loud sound is to shift the normal hearing threshold and to make you less sensitive.. this phenomenon is temporary but can be permanent if exposed to sound of such high intensity for longer period of time( habitual exposure to sound louder than 85db leads to gradual hearing loss).. ........ many people may have experience that after attending a concert with loud music.. specially after sitting in front row...they feel a temporary decrease in hearing which is ofcourse recover after a while.

First think about this ....... Lata ji was sitting in the front row. what she did, probably was a natural reaction to sound. At that time loudness must be touching the level of pain ( I am sure she was not in the same posture through out the show).

plz put yourself in her position on stage what would you like to do, if you are suffering from a temporary hearing loss after that exposure of loud sound and now you are expected to listen normal conversation at stage ( many people when talk on stage don't use speakers)..... I am sure you would like to increase your hearing as much as possible . and that is what she did!!!!!!

Oh come on !!!!! dont say when and where she should remove the cotton if needed...... she is a human first. even at younger age people tend to forget many things and she is in her 70s.

Good Points Dawn... 👏

I hv seen people have this tendency of critcising Lata Didi's every move..whatever she does it will be said as rude or arrogant... She must be used to it by now... So does her fans..

same thing is being done towards Alka Yagnik too..

No thanks! I'd rather retain my hearing abilities and listen to good music whenever I want.😊

There are always two sides o the story - and then there's the truth.
I request you to sincerely put yourself in Latadidi's position before you make comments about Legend giving this reaction.

Yes - but since it was shown on national television - it has to have some significance.

Or is it that the LEGEND's should not insert cotton into their ears , mr ucandoit?

I guess Mr.UcanDoit - you can see whatever lame edited thing that they show on News - then say "That's the only source of my information , I don't know why she did it -- but is this act of arrogance justified"

How simple it is to say "I don't know" yet form your opinions about the actions and claim same yardstick for every one !!

I don't think that we can judge from this pic what happened. Did Lata
specifically say that the singer was terrible? Rude would be to walk out or
take a cellphone call - -both of which were done by people at a Jagjit SIngh
concert I attended!

As for Lata encouraging talent - -we all know how she treated rivals
including her own sister! Later on perhaps she mellowed with Mer Awaz
Suno.

As for arrogance- -if not her right then whose right?

Okay enough of the topic. Let me end this in the bhasha of humare Himesh Reshammiya ji.

Main aap sab ki baat se sehmat hoon. Loud noise thi, isiliye Lata ji ne kaan band kiye, aur isiliye kaan mein cotton pehna. Main maanta hoon is baat ko.

Loud noise thi, isiliye Lata ji ne accha kaam kiya! Yeh sach baat hai!

Agar loud noise nahi hoti, to Lataji yeh karke accha nahi karti. Correct! Main maanta hoon!

Anolda, aap sun rahe hain na - note kijiye!

Aur IF ki public, aap bhi is baat pe note kijiye, aur phir judgment dijiye!!!
