Once during a meeting at office, my boss(Chinese) started saying, the "TRAGEDY is..." numerous times in his presentation. I was new to Singapore then and also to the language. Basically there was no tragedy discussed at that time. I was lost and later, read the minutes of the meeting to spot the word "tragedy"(which was nowhere). To my shock he was talking about "STRATEGY is...).

😆

I have so many stories related with 'Singlish' - now I am used to it!

Another thing - here in Singapore - Every one in grocery shop or wet market call you Uncle/Auntie - irrespective of what's your age (like dada / didi in Bengal). My wife was furious when first time she went to an wet market and a middle age lady called her - 'Auntie' 😆😆😆

I have a High school friend - a girl polish in origin who thought I was "the guy"in class and wanted to be called my groupie..She would follow me like crazy and mess things up more often than not.She kept pestering me to bring her home so she could see where i lived and everytime i dodged..One day somehow she found out and landed up.I told my mom in bengali that how come she was there and how would i make her go? So my mom said play some sad kishor kumar songs..she'll think you are crazy and leave you alone.I did the same thing..she came to my room and i proudly boasted my KK collection and played a CD. The song on was "chingari koi bhadke".. to my horror she not only liked the song ..she became a kishor fan !!!Then of course we became good friends. She has a very good collection and just loves his songs..But tragedy strikes everytime she tries singing along with the CD.. 😭 😭 😭 .All hell breaks loose.

One of the best moments in my life was when me along with some of my friends had lit crackers in the Principal's cabin on the day of Sendoff Party in schol, wen everyone was busy at the party.
On hearing the loud noise everyone came to see, but by that time we were in the hall by the back door.

I was working with this Japanese client for the first time, and they were visiting our office for some discussions.. for our entire team, it was our first experience with the japanese client.. so in the meeting room, we had place arranged for the client at one side asn we were sitting on the side farther from the door, so that we could welcome them and it was easier for them to sit... seeing the sitring arrangement, we didn't understand what happened, they left and we never got the project...

later we came to know that in japanese culture, if you are seating a person closer to the door, you are asking him/her to go 😕
