To say that "this show has fallen to the pits" is stating the obvious. I think they should just cancel this show!

When the music industry is drenched in item numbers at a club with girls wearing revealing clothing, devoid of melody, copying others, and nothing but SHOR (noise) being accepted as music, how can anyone use "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" as a platform to join in this field?

As yourselves everyone: WHO IS AT FAULT?

KB ji,

If you're only talking about the degradation of SRGMP, I would say its your fault for expecting the same quality of the show in a different day and age. I say, its my fault for subscribing to stupid Zee to see one serial every week just because I've been watching it ever since Sonu Nigam days...

1. IS IT THE PUBLIC?

Do the public truly like to listen to remixes and songs that are sung in the club with revealing bodies with suggestive lyrics or actions? Will they be able to live the whole day if that's what they are listening to? Is the sound of the music or the picturization inspiring them to buy more of this or to listen to all of this?

When we were kids, there was no exposure to this kind of an "assault" from cable television. I remember watching "Aarohi" on DD that gave us Suresh W., Alka Y. and Manhar. Kids now apparently like "Kabhi aar kabhi paar" or (there was another song that totally escapes me at the moment) but how many of those have actually seen/heard the original songs without the navels/thongs peeking out? I personally dont like those remixes but wouldn't mind those coming out (no videos, CDs only) as long as the original artist is credited...
For those who think, I'm being a prude - no, I'm not...

2. IS THE MUSIC DIRECTORS?

Do the music directors really have a say in how they create their music? Sorry to quote him, but Himesh Reshammiya says thist his music is targeted to 23 years olds. I am 22, and I know a handful of 22 year olds who stopped listening to Indian film music because it began to sound too "cheap." Does the film director/producer tell the music directors "compose this way or else your fired?" I sure hope not. Thank God for music directors like Ismail Darbar who is classical oriented, Jatin Lalit (to my knowledge, their music has always been listenable and mostly family orientated), late Madan Mohan (through Veer Zaara), A.R. Rehman (most versitile, to my knowledge).

OOPS! I discredit all those MDs that I just mentioned. I haven't heard a track by AR Rehman too recently, or Madan Mohan, or JL, or ID. Says a lot, doesn't it?

I wish there were more like you, Abhi, Madhavi and some other kids that I've met here...

3. FILM DIRECTORS???

Do you think that a film story with cheap story lines or something vulgar will continue to survive? Will royalities come for them with they retire? Movies, for the most part, entertain audiences usually for something the viewer can relate to (cultural differences in Pardes), or wish to relate to (love from Mohabbatein), something informative (Bhagat Singh films), or just something to relax and have a good time (some Govinda film). I understand that the film "Kaliyug" (I haven't watched, btw) was to expose po*nography. However, from the previews, it appears to be a bit too extmeme. Will these things survive?

Cant comment since I never did watch it... Saw that it had Emran Hasmi and just put it back on the shelf 😆... I WILL ask this, does anyone remember the old Kalyug - Shashi Kapoor, Victor Bannerjee and some other good actors (was modern day Mahabharat with the corporate world as background)...

4. IS IT GAJENDRA SINGH VS. SONY??

Quite possibly. If GS really cared about the quality of his show, he'd cut those disputable things out like the walkout, mentors arguing over some petty matters, Vinit's love-story, too much dwelling in contestant's lives, Sharib's behavior, Vishwas's outburts, and Vishwanath's remarks. If he has no control to retain the quality of his show, then SRGMP will remain forgettable and true music lovers that I have had the fortune to meet in this forum, will hanker for good music or old tapes and recordings of old SRGM when Sonu Nigam was the host or maybe the early episodes when Shaan was the host!

Do you think Fame Gurukul's reality show format elicited this?

FG and II did start it all... But lets remember that its still a novel comcept for our junta in India. With the revenue streams generated by those 2 shows, SRGMP HAD to follow the same path...
The majority demographic that votes IS young kids and they are the ones who would get "emotionally blackmailed" by all the sob/love stories...
I know of at least one "fan" who said he/she was dancing in joy and couldn't sleep at night because one of the participants of SRGMP answered his/her questions. Another person said his/her exams would go well because that one contestant wished him/her good luck ON CHAT...
Who do we blame for this... Kids cannot help being kids - they're just not matured enough. Its the director of the show who's taking advantage of this...

Also, If you were only talking about the degradation of SRGMP, I would say that its your fault for expecting the same quality of the show in a different day and age. I say, its my fault for subscribing to stupid Zee to see one serial every week just because I've been watching it ever since Sonu Nigam days...

"panting, tonue hanging out*I'll have a glass of Savignon Blanc and then watch others bash me for ranting... 😆

KB it is easy to look over and surpass the responsibilty to others and find fault in others. What is the root cause....ignorance/not much of family life as most parents work/no more sanskaar fromm dada/dadi/nana/nani...our schools just giving theoritical education...it is multiple factors..and people like Gaj will always try to cash them for publicity and make money. It is a major growing problem. Too much , we blame western culture or this and that. Even western culture has good aspect. The truth is our youth is in between..of eastern & Western culture..hence dhobi ka kutta..na ghar ka na ghat ka

very True Iron. for some youngstrs the pull from the West is too strong. but only the ones in the West kno that the condition of West is going down itself. copying it is pure folly. but i look at some desis who r in the West and are proud of their culture and tradition, and want to keep it alive thru learing, aur dance, music, culture, language, and i think maybe there is hope for us yet. in a few decades hopefully when India has come upto the level where the West looks upto it, maybe we might get our culture back. maybe this downward spiral is not irreversible after all

Everyone has equal responsibilty to bring changes in our society. When we could accpet the western culture, we should also make sure not to lose our cultural values in the process.

i think the problem comes when we fail to distinguish between the good in the western culture and the bad.

its ok, i understand 😊 see the way u r spending time with ur kid, if everyone started doing that even for some time, it would still help in keeping the bad influences away. they won't go away completely, they have to battle it themselves too, but it helps to have parental support

By the way i think first thread with no chatting.....Bhasker are u proud of us 😆

lol iron, this is probably the first intellectual thread i have entered in months, but no more of that now, bak to the topic at hand 😛

yes i think we here in the west do get more conscious abt our culture, atleast some of us do. like my parents pay more attention that we follow our culture than they did bak home. u kno the media part has been seriously upsetting me a lot since some time. i used to think its only western media that is corrupted but i am sorry to say there is not a single decent song coming out these days in indian media, especially remixes. i actually have to turn off the TV becuz i cannot watch such things with my dad or my sister and such, wat values r these giving to my sister. is it for this that we put on our indian channels when we r away from Des. to see its degradation? 🤢

i kind of agree and disagree with the maturity part. the age of 17/18 should be for studies, for innocence. but many kids of these ages r getting too influenced by these shows and moving away from those important parts of life at this stage. but autmother another point is we have had many ppl who have joined industry at a young age like shreya ghoshal and sunidhi. they haven't lost the real music have they??

Hi Kishore Bhakta
This degradation is quite universal I think, not just confined to Hindi films or TV programmes. Hollywood has gone the same way.

Everything has got diluted. Look at language for instance. My mother recollects that people used to speak fairly good Hindi/Urdu in Delhi. It was a pleasure to listen to people from UP. Over the years, the Zee TV kind of Hindi became predominant. Sample this sentence, "I want to say ki main bahut sorry feel kar raha hoon".

The degradation of music is too obvious to be even stated. Earlier, one could debate endlessly on which MD was the best. Now the debate is about who is the worst. I hear NOISE everywhere. No music.

I would blame all the factors you have mentioned - public, directors, MDs etc. The whole system has been corrupted.

But everything goes through a cycle. There are peaks and troughs. So I hope that we will come out of this trough one day.

It might be just another publicity stance – after all it is by our dear S K JHA!!!

But if it is true – I don't think it is just a problem with the music world. It is certainly not an isolated incident of one loose kid with high amount of testosterone. Also I disagree to always blame 'today's generation for every catastrophes. There were always these 'today's kids are…' type of sentiment – my grandpa heard that from his forefathers, my Dad from my Grandpa and me from my Father.

Question here – is there another dark period like 80s coming in for the performing arts? You know - the Disco age (Mithun da, Jitendra and the 🤢 songs). Where attitude is everything, being rude is style and arrogant is cool!
