This ais a very high pitched number (perhaps a 3rd or a notch above octave) but listen to Jiske diil mein pyaar na ho woh paththar hai Insaan Kahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan agian repeats Insaan Kahaaan aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. the toughest part is to come down with a smooth blend to a perfect landing. At the same time retaining the sweetness. MK was good at high pitch but could never do justice to the smooth landing from high altitudes Instead dropped suddenly like a hot cake.(Na sar jhuka ke jiyo listen what he does to 'Andheri raat mein in the same song)

After Rafi saab's death, some really awful clones- Shabbir, Mohd Aziz etc got some limelight. Kumar Sanu reaped it after KK's death. What I found fascinating is that a great music director like RD could still make them very listenable- Kumar Sanu in Love Story 1942, Shabbir in Sunny.

OMG Mohd Aziz was such a pain to one's ears.. I rememebr him singing for Amitji in Khuda Gawah..his thin voice on Bachchan saab was hilarious.. in the duet 'Tu na ja mere Badshah', when he goes "main wapas aoonga"..YUUUCK!!!! I don't know what L-P was thinking.. but that whole album anyway was quite a forgettable one..

Good thread...

Btw,

legend Ghantasala also had a clone in Ramakrishna V

Immediately after Ghantasala's death, there was a big void in terms of who can sing for NTR and ANR etc. To some extent Ramakrishna V, tried to fill in. But faded out soon as SPB gained ground..

Punjiniji, with due respect -

1) MK wasn't a Rafi clone. He had a distinct voice
2) Vinit isn't a Rafi clone, he's a Sonu clone
3) Debojit definitely isn't a KKda clone...his voice isn't powerful enough
4) Suman Kalyanpur was a Lata-esque voiced singer. She lost out because Lata was there. She was a fantastic singer though
5) Mohd. Aziz was the most successfl clone of Rafi

Don't know if there are any Adnan Sami fans here but I really find his voice too heavy and tired.

I agree with Punjiniji
Adnan Sami's voice is unusual though not tired (Lol) Does not suit hero's image. But this man is highly talented. His music original and singing is of different kind. He has a very good control over his voice. His version of 'Sunzara' sounds much better than Sonu's. Honestly Sonu is no match for him in this song. You have to watch his stage performance. He is magic.
