Adnan Swami is a clone of Hemant Kumar. Vishal from VishalShekar music director is a Adnan/Hemant clone.
Himesh is a Fateh Ali khan clone.
Babul Supriyo is a Kumar Sanu clone.
Put Vinit is the Rafi category as Md Aziz,Sonu,Vinit are all Rafi clones.

Himesh as nusrat ali's clone??? Mind blowing comparision! Nusrat is way too classical and well trained.

"He mess" is nasal and with limited range... I disagree😡

the names from SRGMP from the list or this thread will again become a
battleground and the Mods will be forced to close it...Regarding Hemant
Kumar, one was Subir Sen (sang the song, "Manzil wahi
hai pyaar ke raahi badal gaye") and there was (at least) another person
some Bhattacharjee but the name skips my mind at the moment...
Sonu Nigam did start out as a Mohd Rafi clone. Those were the days when
HMV (under the RPG Goenka stamp) started to enforce copyright and T-
Series was forced to come out with the duplicate versions of the old
classics. Vipin (Bajpayee?), Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam, Nitin Mukesh,
for T-Series, came out with a lot of these "Yaadein" cassettes.Mukesh
started out as a KL Saigal clone with "dil jalta hai tou jalne de"...Mahendra
Kapoor started out as a Rafi clone with "chaand chupa aur taare
doobe"...Why, even Lata started off as a Shamshad clone till her "aayega
aanewaala"...It definitely is interesting (as you've mentioned as well) that
try hard as I may, cant think of a clone for Talat and Manna da...

Great thread. I think that to some extent, most new singers start off by
imitating other famous singers. Most people who hear an Asha song,
they want to hear a singer who sounds like Asha; same for Lata, etc....

But as the singer becomes more confident, they find their own niche (we
hope) and move out of the idol's shadow.

The worst are the sons who try to imitate their father (Nitin Mukesh, Amit
Kumar).

Sonu started off as a Rafi clone but has really come into his own and has
his own strengths.

Shaan has a unique voice. So does KK.

In Bengal, the shadow of Hemanta is so strong, I feel like every third
singer imitates him.

Also people tend to gravitate towards songs that seem to suit their voice.
So it is natural that Vinit would go towards Sonu and Debo would go
towards Kishore. But sometimes he tried to sound more like Manna and
someitmes like Hemanta.

Lata started off as a Noor Jehan clone not Shamshad!

I don't think that Abhijeet is a clone of Kishore.

What???????????????😲 Abhi what are you saying?

Except few songs like " Bade achche lagte" and some more, Amit Kumar was the baap of all besura's. His voice quality was just aweful. Its sad to see that the son of the golden voice so besura.

Actually, we don't know if the sons are imitating their fathers. It could be the genes you know. Yes, you are right about Hemant Kr being imitated in bengal. 😆

Appa ji...I dont agree with you...comm'on amit kumar wasnt that bad...
His voice resembled his father quite a bit..so as long as KK was there he could never make his mark...but by the time KK passed away....black era of indian film music had started with almost all the action movies coming....with multiple stars....all the good musicians including RDB had a terrible time then...amit kumar wasnt any exception...he was just unfortunate to be on his prime at that time. After that when melody came back in bollywood i.e bappi lahiri left 😆😆...sanu and udit took over as fresh voices.
I still can count few songs I like...
bade ache lagte hain..
Yeh zameen ga rahi hai..
na bole tum na maine kuchh kaha...
too rutha to main...
uthe sab ke kadam..
deewana dil deewana...
aati rahengi baharein...
Dushman na kare...

Punjiniji, with due respect -

1) MK wasn't a Rafi clone. He had a distinct voice Rafi mentored MK and hence MK has his style
2) Vinit isn't a Rafi clone, he's a Sonu clone Do not call Vineet anything yet
3) Debojit definitely isn't a KKda clone...his voice isn't powerful enough Same as #2
4) Suman Kalyanpur was a Lata-esque voiced singer. She lost out because Lata was there. She was a fantastic singer though 100% true. Lata was instrumental in ruining Suman's career by threatening MD's
5) Mohd. Aziz was the most successfl clone of Rafi 100 % true. He has a powerfull voice. I had seen him in concert "Yek Shaam Rafi ke Naam"

Re: Amit Kumar - -he had a couple of good songs from Love Story (Yaad
Ara, and Dekho Maine.._) but my biggest problem with him is that he
makes his living by singing his fathers songs in concert. I mean have
some dignity. Ditto for that Nitin Mukesh.

Adnan Sami as a Hemanta clone -- you must be on drugs! I am a Bengali
and I can recognize hemanta's voice in any song sober or drunk (in my
younger days of course!) There is ZERO in common between Adnan Sami
and Hemanta. I am so horried.

Himesh is not a clone but a wanna be Pakistani singer and I am sure that
they are laughing at us from Pakistan.

Babul Supriyo started off as a Sanu clone because that's what people
wanted at the beginning.

One song I liked of Amit kumar was 'Lele Dil, Dede dil' from 100 days.
