Same here. I think Hema is wonderful. I would like to point out a couple of technical points.
1. He has sung this song one and a half pitches below the original. In other words, if Hema's pitch is Sa, then Hariharan has sung at G1
2. In the original, the Priyasi..goes on for over 13 beats, Hema held the pitch for 8...which is average for any decent musician...
3. In the original...the Harkat at Priyasi goes up to the upper G..it is ri...ri ga ri sa ri sa...which is hard when you are running out of air. Hema modified it to ni ri sa ni da pa ma ma pa ma ga ma ga...(coming down the scale) which is easier...and modified the wait since he had to use up four beats.
Having said all this...I thoroughly enjoyed his voice quality, its resonance and its maturity. I truly hope to hear more from him. I really think my money to Zee was worth every bit just to hear these two wonderful children...Nihira and Hema.
God bless them for all their talent and hard work. To learn all these songs, their words, to memorize all this and deliver with so much finish is wonderful and I am truly impressed.

Nice analysis. I do not want to dwell on the technical stuff. He was just too good.

Again I have been a big Hema fan and do not mean to put him down. He is too talented for me to make any remarks like that. I used him as an example to highlight the level of singing that is being shown today.

Singing it live (versus recording) probably makes it difficult to maintain
the original complexity.

Absolutely true...I am totally impressed actually. My comments were totally academic. My end impression was total enchantment. I am very impressed with young Hemachandra and wish him quick and lasting success.

Was there a mento meter crap for that song, if thre was, what did he get?
If you say he sang a difficult song and was really good at it, I would be surprised if he got sumtin below a 9.

Cynical me thinks that was staged too. he was never given anything more than 9 even for Saathiya or Haye rama... I thought both those songs were equally good.

mentometers were misguiding people as there was so much politics! Vinit
for some reason got away with 9s and 10s for some of his average
performances too.
