ARR already has noticed Hema, Nihira & Himani..
One of the forum members who doesnt write anymore but is closely related to some established South Indian singers, told me this through mail.

Niraj,
As an instrument player, dont you think Rahman's songs are very complex? I am comparing him to our older MDs where the song flow was very simple.
I am not finding fault with ARR. Who am I? Just questioning you on the technical aspects. Anyone else please comment.

His use of string instruments & wind instruments are far complex than one would imagine.
Listen to the song dil ye sanam dil from Chor Chor(Thiruda thiruda), bass guitar has been plucked all way like a rock song, then it has been fused with digital drums...
To make it furthur complex he makes singers sing over them on raag darbari kannada, bhairavi etc. he is far more complicated composer then thought.
His use of Indian & Western flute is class apart, not to mention usage of sarangi, violin, santoor....miscell. other instruments.
I remember he used to be criticised in mid 90s as a composer who uses too much of computer & synthesizer but time has proved how versatile he is, his use of vocal chorus in sun ri sakhi(Humse hai muqabala) speaks in volume of his complicated yet melodious music.
He is a composer who has used technique to improve the quality..

Exactly what I thought you would say. if I may add, He uses tremendous variations also. No wonder they are so difficult to sing.

Again the title theme he makes & the background music he contributes is far superior to his couterparts, I love the title theme of thiruda thiruda...he has used violins like war themes of western classical..
powerful yet touching..
and what to say of title theme of Bombay...wonderful..have you noticed how he keeps left hand on bass notes over synth-strings as violin makes a mark..
