Nair, Ashaji will never reach the level of Lata Mangeshkar because she is some goddess of music and melody. She is worshipped by EVERY aspiring female singer in India (along with Ashaji to a lesser extent).

i am a hardcore asha fan and in my heart she has reached a much higher level. i guess its my opinion and u may not agree with me. i credit taht lata is a great singer and adorned by many, but personally i am not crazy about her voice as compared to asha's. asha had a certain sensousness which lata lacked, but i have one too many fav songs sung by lata too. but yes if anyone asks me my fav then it wud be asha....she has achieved a lot in india and abroad as well now who can boast of a grammy nomination 😉

now dont be so harsh who know it could have been much better than lata who knows. no one can deny that asha is a good singer and nobody here is saying that lata is bad. we each have our preferences bulbaji, u have lata and we have asha....and mind u i respect lataji and her songs as i have said i have a lot of fav nums sung by her.

I think Pancham's failing career & health were the reasons behind such melancholic yet beautiful songs of Ijazzat, RDB has used raaga yaman kalyan for mera kuch saman......which won national award for Gulzar & Ashaji, in words of Gulzar, Kheer.
I personaly rate Ijazzat in top 3 movies of RDB.

now i dont even know whether i ever considered taking out a top 3 RDB movies, maybe i shud sit and do that. but Mera kuch Saaman is my all time fav song, what lyrics what musich and what voice....its amazing,mindblowing,fantastic.

i dont have ay idea abt ragas etc (wish i had studied music though) but thanks so much for all the info u give out. hum jaise anpadh logon ke liye bahut fayade ka hota hain..........thanks a bunch...

There is no point comparing such great singers, no one is raising a debate like Ashaji Vs Lataji, it is like Apple Vs Mango, sabki apni khasiyat hai, I feel blessed & privileged that I was born in a country which has such great singers...

i agree too. theres no point comparing but u cant blame if people have their own fav right?

Dear People I know Swastika is holy symbol but it is openly offensive to non Indian or uninformed people here. Most of the posts here are from outside India so you never know.
