Jaspal Bhai very nice one. What a voice and what a composition.
Guess in those days Bollywood was closely controlled and not many others could get a chance.
Several new composition these days ape the west and many of the new songs are just repetitions.
and often sound similar.

Shailender Singh was a graduate from Puna film institute and came to Bombay to become an actor. He had such a sweet voice that Laxmikant - Pyarelal and Raj Kapoor gave him a break in the film Bobby and he sang all the male voice songs except that Kaafi from BulleShah which was sung by Narinder chanchal.

Raj kapoor sahib lost all his money including his wife's jewellery in the production of Mera Naam Joker. 😭 He was very upset with Indian audience who didn't appreciate his classic film. He promised that if people wants only formula films, he would produce one with all the Masala and Tarka. He was correct as he covered all his loses with the production of Bobby. 👏

Yes some Artistics films are too boring for the general audience.
Generally a lot of movies with sexy ladies and love stories is what the general public wants.
But a movie like Mera naam Joker, was perhaps too much about Raj Kapoor trying to imitate Charlie Chaplin and does not always go well. I never watched the movie but the title does not sound compelling either.
But yes I like this song very much.

Jagjit Bhai must be one of India's most successful ghazal singers who has survived in modern times.
May Gods Bless his efforts. But he should learn to smile as I always see him so sad and sour. Maybe he is absorbed in thoughts.
RFAK has done very well too and has a very likeable personality.

thanks Summar bhai for those kind words, I have no links to film industry but do have interest in music. I can play harmonium and Tabla. Cedit goes to my wife who sings gurbani shabads. She forced me to learn instruments so that I could play with her. Warna salee apun ko to sare zindgi physics, chemistry se hi furset nahi melee thee.
Another story I would'ke to share is about our Lata di. No offence meant to anybody. As you said that 70's and 80's was the tough time for new comers in play back singing.
O.P. Naiyar had some khet-pat and mun-mutav with Lata di thus she refused to sing for his movies. After that Naiyar sahib never asked her to sing for his movies and Asha ji used to sing for him. Later he discovered Dilraj kaur, a very sweet and young voice.
Once a correspondent asked Naiyar sahib in an interview that why he didn't work with Lataji. His answer was that Lataji's voice was not suitable for his compositions.😊

Good Jaspal Bhai. Some arguments n disagreements are common everywhere. I heard Lata ji even told off Rafi Sahab but women tend to be short tempered often. Dilraj ji is good. Sad to see the dreams of good singers shattered. Guess karma.

He lost his young son and I think he is separated/divorced from his wife too. May be these stressors are making him sour.
