No one is spared from the tangles of superstition. From serial producers to actors… they are all gripped by some notions or the other. The latest in the superstition club are the contestants on Zee's Challenge 2005. Himani and Vinit say that their accessories play an important role in their success.
Himani Kapoor from the Jay Ho gharana says, "I am superstitious about the colour yellow. It is unlucky for me. I wore a yellow coloured dress once for a performance and I didn't score well. I was among the last three contestants. Since then, I made a special request that they avoid dressing me up in yellow. I am also, superstitious about the number six. It is lucky for me. I am contestant number six on this show. My date of birth also totals to six. So I guess it will set-off the bad that the yellow colour did."
"In the last few weeks I have become particularly fond of the tattoo on my arm. This was done as part of my grooming for the show by stylist Payal Kothari. It is very special to me. When I am without my make-up, people recognise me because of the tattoo. Somehow, I feel that ever since I got this tattoo done, my performance has been consistent," she adds.
"I am not saying that my success is entirely because of this tattoo or the colour yellow. I believe nothing will happen against God's wishes but there is no harm in avoiding what you think is unlucky," she adds Contestant Vinit from the Rock gharana says, "I wore a cap once for a performance and that day I gave the best performance ever. All the mentors appreciated it very much. Then Himesh Reshammiya (the mentor of his gharana) gave me his cap, and told me to always wear it. He told me not to come on the stage unless I wear the cap. Now, even my father has started wearing a cap and says he will not remove it until I win. I was not superstitious earlier but since the day Himeshji gave me this cap, I have begun to believe in it. The day I got the highest votes came after I wore the cap." Vinit has got yet another contract to sing for bollywood. He has got the opportunity to sing two solo romantic songs for the film He which is the launche vehicle of Mimoh Chakraborty.
