There is no future for those singers singing in other's voice. They can be successful only if they sing any song in their own voices otherwise there is no future, otherwise we should have seen many professional singers coming from SRGMP because lot of them were technically correct.
Without going into who can be considered as original voice as that will lead to controversy 😆, in general I agree with you that ultimately a singer has to sing in his/her own voice. If we follow the history of Hindi film music from its inauguration, we have always seen that whenever a singer has become successful, it is because he/she brings something new to the plate.
However one thing has to be noted. In film music especially, often when starts singing, one tries to imbibe the voice of original singer, e.g. Lataji's voice like Noor jehan, Mukesh voice like KL Saigal, etc in the early part of their career. Also, the points mentioned in gopalbhai's posts are extremely relevant and pertinent.
Also technical correctness in my view is only apparently and not in reality. I have seen contestants changing the composition to suit themselves. Instead of singers going up to the level of the composition, they bring down the composition to their level. As a result, the difficult parts of the song is not executed and the singer is apparently technically correct though in reality this is not the case. Also they tend to sing within a narrow range and fails miserably when given something outside their range. For gauging technical correctness, you need to check the difficulty level and range of compositions which they are singing.
In this show, till now we have six teams singing older compositions on Friday. If you will carefully compare what is being sung by the contestants and what was originally sung, you can easily get an idea of who stands where and what portions were difficult for a particular contestant (Though I must admit that in Mega Challenge barring a few cases in general, the contestants have tried to stay honest to the original tunes 👏).
P.S.
1. The above principle are general in nature and not specific to any instance(just some thoughts on my part 😊)
