quest for a good playback singer. I like when Himesh and Aadesh give
these singers an opportunity to sing in their movies but JL and ID have
never stepped up/.. JL said Swananda can go to UK and she will get lots of
opportunities.. why did they not promise her a song in their next film.
Why do they not give Sharib a song.. Is this just about winning Sa Re ga
Ma Pa and someone from their Gharana winning or is it encouraging
talent and giving a stepping stone to these young people..
2 I feel sad for these partcipants becoming the scapegoats ..like Vinnet
the other day.. he came , he performed and had to witness uncalled for
Melodrama.. totally uncalled for.
3.Zee TV is not doing show for charity and obviously they get money for
the SMS but the growing regionalistic approach is ridiculous.. I would like
if Nihira asks for vote in Punjabi and Debu in Marathi and Hema in
Gujarati.. Why is ZEE TV PROPOGATING REGIONALISM
I think that JL and ID like most music directors want to use singers who
are trained and qualified. I am sure that with further training Swananda
and Sharib would make excellent playback singers. None of the current
crop with the exception of Nihira (maybe Hem and Debu too) are really
seasoned enough to be playback singers in my opinion. I think that you
can give a newcomer a break wtih one song here or there but most music
directors do not have the time to train the singer to sing since they are
too busy teaching the new composition itself. I believe that Lalit said
something about needing to learn a song in a half an hour these days.
People always ask why new talent is not given a break in the industry.
The nature is such that singer must come trained and ready to work.
Lata's speed in picking up a song was legendary -- that is why she
dominated for so long. So please do not be fooled by Himesh offering
songs to Vineet. If he wants to spend the time to train Vineet on an
album, that is his choice, but he could not afford to do that with all of his
work. Same for AS and Rajeev. Can you imagine teaching Rajeev a whole
album or worse making us listen to it? That's why AS would offer a whole
album to Hema - -he has already done some playback singing.
ID has very classically based compositions and I cannot imagine who
there is qualified to sing them. Maybe Sharib someday and maybe Nihira
now. I note that Shreya Ghosal has a strong classical foundation and did
do several Bengali albums before Devdas so she was not as raw in
experience as people thought.
As for Vineet, if gets unfair advantages, of course the mentors will call
him on it. It may not be his fault that HR set up the track that way but JL
were right in that when such a popular song is chosen, most people will
know when you have fooled with a track. I could tell that something was
amiss and I am just a fan!
Wtih regard to regionalism, you are probably right. Instead, they should
have a regional songs round like they used to so music lovers can
appreciate the unique qualities of a region rather than this mindless
pandering.
