Which according to you is the most popular Music Genre in India these days and why?

According to me it is Punjabi Music. Every song which has Punjabi music or Punjabi lyrics in it becomes a hit.

Here are some recent hit Punjabi songs.

Dance pe Chance (RNBDJ)
Haule Haule (RNBDJ)
Desi Girl (Dostana)
Maa da laadla (Dostana)
Manataan (Heroes)
Mauja Mauja
Nagada
Teri Ore
Singh is King
Jee Karda
Papu Can't Dance Saala
Oye Lucky Luck oye

The list goes on and on.......................

These are the ones i could think of right now, will update it later, please add your own songs as well.

I don't know why some people don't like Punjabi Music, even though, every singer has sang some and every music composer has composed some. Having a Punjabi flavor to a song guarantees that it will be a hit.

Punjabi Songs Simply Rock
even in the olden days punjabi music was popular, like dilwale dulhaniya le jainge, veer zaara, Gadar, Partner etc.

so Punjabi music is not always about hiphop or bhangra and tuneless music as some people claim

nowadays tuneless punjabi dance numbers get overhyped and become hits..

i like filmy melodious song which actually paved the way for bollywood..

the golden era was from 1950 to 1966.. then came the bollywood era wih teesri manzil and aradhana etc..

in my opinion 1950 -1980 was the best..
1990's were excellent.
this era just plain s%#$%$#%

ye those songs were good, which heavily relied on lyrics to support them, but the quality of music in them was very low.
if it weren't for those "tuneless" punjabi songs, you wouldn't be on the dance floors in the parties.

if it werent for the golden era there wouldn't be any bollywood.

and if "dance numbers" doesn't exactly qualify as high quality music..

and the golden era had THE BEST quality of music ever.. not a bunch of chors running around..

ok i admit rd and op etc did lift once or twice.. but not at the current rate.

nagada and mauja and singh is kingh are the most tunelessp ieces of dirt i've ever seen.

if they indeed were, then they wouldn't have been the most popular songs of the year.

if they indeed had the best music why don't we make those kinda songs now, ye if we start producing golden era like songs now, bollywood would then have to shut down it's factory, and mutiplexes would run empty

listen , ANYTHING thats hyped becomes a hit..

if that was the case, why did om shanti om and its music become such a blockbuter hit?? surely not because of deewangi.. even tho it was nice..

why is teri or more popular than snoop dogg??

sure noone wants classical music.. it can get boring and tuneless to.. thats why the 50's weren't perfect either.. but pure melody rules over both classical and dance numbers.

but 60's and 70

teri ore has a punjabi flavor too. it's the dance numbers that rakes in the most amount of money.
sonu nigam released a classical album earlier this year, it was totally flop

Incidentally its this singers only song that I like. Even Turn the Music Up by Bilz and Kashif rocks

i'm talking abt the classics. not classicals.

and yes. teri or has a punj flavour..

but it relies mainly on melody.. not some silly "rabb de chaake paaji" tunes.
