looking at his interaction with other people and not being able to act like a normal adult, it does seem that he's got some kind of autism...but it might not be true....

Actually, Pritam had mentioned about his disability in his speech and said that he had similar issues himself. This was the time when participants were complaining about Debo.
I truely believe him as having mild form autism, maybe aspergers. My Uncle's son has similar social issues - Uncontrolled facial and hand moments, Unable to engage in meaningful conversation, Wanting to attract attention etc. I realized about Debo's situation, the first time I saw him. However, his singing is amazing. Just like the Judge's said, he just needs to control his energy while singing to stay on tune.

Having closely interacted with autistic children and adults, I defintely would say Debo has some form of autism. It is not something that can be dignosed with a blood test or something, and comes in various forms and levels. There are many who have mild autism and they manage to pass through fine later in life. Others with a bit more stronger kind would continue to have it as adults but they will be able to live in the society without much hassles. The extreme cases require special schooling and special attention until death. If anyone has watched the movie "Rainman", it portrays an autistic character played by Dustin Hoffman. The movie "Shine" is the true story of an Australian pianist David Helfgott, who is also autistic but extremely talented.
There are different forms of behavioral autism too, and believe it or not, lisp or stammering is a common characteristic for many autistic people. Majority of the autistic people have abnormality of speech and behavior and would not respond to others or interact with others the usual expected way. But their intelligence is certain areas is unbeatable - it could be science, math, music, or anything. Their brain work miraculously in the area they are talented for. In Debo's case, it's music. Another common theory about autistic children is that they are born to parents who are very intelligent - those who belong to Technology, Science, Accounting fields. In Debo's case, both his parents are scientists, and that factor is also true for him.
Debo doesnt respond to comments or jokes as expected, if anyone has noticed. When you expect him to laugh, he just stand there with a blank stare. And he says jokes which may not appear as jokes for others, but in his mind, it's a joke and he will laugh. Also notice that either both or one of his parents are always present - especially his mother will be always there with him on the show. Because for her, he is always precious and she knows that he wont be able to live on his own in the big city and he will easily be targeted and lost. Autistic people will need more attention and care than others even as adults. They might be extremely talented or brilliant, but they can never do all the day to day things like buying groceries, cooking, washing clothes, etc unless they get trained in it - and training them is extremely stressful. They are harmless people regardless of the disability.
I can keep going on and on... I have read several articles and books on this matter. And from day one, I noticed that Debo has some issues. When Pritam brought it up, I realized he fits into the definition of autism. And because of that, I started to respect him and his parents even more. If you ever meet a parent whose child is autistic, listen to what they have to say, and you will understand how special the child is...

You got it wrong, OBJ. Ask Dustin Hoffman, and he will tell you how hard it is to act as a real autistic person. It isnt something that can be easily imitated without creating a single error for this long.

He should be in a contest with kids or adults with similar handicap or special needs...He probably would or could win...
I don't think he is faking it or a gimick....Pls do not say that...
Along with him being Autistic he has huge Lisp which is something else he needs theraphy-speech therapy....
I wish judges would not over hype him and give false hopes...

No, we should not say or think like that. In that case, Vasundhara who is legally blind should not have participated in L'il Champs and now in ESBE CPBD. Besides, we dont have competitions like that in India, where the talents of special needs children and adults are recognized and encouraged. He is way better than Asma, and he definitely deserves to be there - he sings some songs with so much feel, though he doesnt do a good job every week. He has the sur and voice too, which cannot be denied...
