As shocking as it is that Pritam is plagiarizing these songs, his song popularity cannot be ignored. And I will admit, I listen to these songs on a regular basis without once thinking about the fact that they may be plagiarized. Uh-Oh! Am I supporting plagiarism? Haha, just kidding. I think its the sole responsibility of the singers that are being ripped off, to sue Pritam. Once he is sued a couple of times, I hope that he will mend his ways. And we'll see the "real" Pritam.

As far as him sitting on the mentor's chair, well, I don't think any of these mentors, minus Shankar, deserves to be called a mentor. With the profession of a teacher/mentor it is simply not enough to possess knowledge. In order to be a good mentor, you have to be able to convey that knowledge to your student. And that's where all these mentors lack. They don't tell them where they are doing wrong and the contestants continue to repeat their mistakes.

Also, you are forgetting that Pritam is a replacement for Bappi Lahiri. So his job is really to sit there and give useless comments and be completely clueless about the competition. At least he spares us by not singing songs in Bengali in every episode. 😆😆

When you need to correct sur,pitch,taal everything in song using devices,then whats the job of Atif?
When you have so so many budding talents in India esp from reality shows wth such beautiful,original voices,perfect sur,taal,laya why u are adamant that u will use machines?

You were talking about Atif's style.Are you referring to his good-looks?

For example,a child falls ill.I give u 2 options to select
1.Parents will take the baby to a knowledgeable doctor well versed in his profession
2.Go to a doctor , without any knowledge ,who cannot examine or prescribe a medicine without browsing intenet.

Similarly

Option 1.KISHOREDA
2.ATIF

I hope you got my point.

Liking a person is different but it should not be at the cost of good music.

No phoneix32 you got me wrong. I have never referred to atif Good looks. I just wanted to say is that in a song the most important is emotion. The music & singer's voice both should be such that it should connect with the listener. If its a foot tapping song than the music as well as the singer should make you dance. If its a sad song then music and the singer's voice should touch the heart of the listener.Atif may or not have proper sur or taal but somewhere he has been able to connect with listener because of which his songs where hit. I am not a Fan of Atif but still I know there will be many who like Atif as a singer. When you say Atif as "besura" those people may not like and they may get emotionally hurt. Belive me If you love somebody and someone says bad things to the person you love it really hurts. Physical injury can be cured but if someone hurts you feeling it take lot of time to come out of it. Atif has a diffrent voice so many people may get conncted with his voice and music and so they like him. Those who do not get connected with his voice may not like him as a singer. Its ok if you don't like him as a singer but calling him "besura" may not go down well with the people who love him.For you he may be "Besura" but for someone he may be best singer. We need to respect each others emotions .Like and Dislike has nothing to do with sur and taal. You must have seen even small children start dancing when they here some good song, they don't have any knowledge about sur taal but sitll they may fall in love with some songs . I don't know chinese language but still love many of chinese songs. At the end I will say what once himesh has said in his interview " If God wants him to become an Actor then no one can stop me but if God does not want me to be an actor than no one can make me an actor" Same goes for Atif if God wants him to be a well known singer than you and I cannot stop him. Whatever Atif has achived is his destiny and gift of God and we should respect the decision of God even if we don't respect atif.

I have no problem with Pritam stealing tunes and all. In marketing terminology, we call it "Clever bootlegging". I would rather have someone like Pritam, who is relevant to the current music biz and is actually composing music for big projects and selling records, as a judge over someone like Adeshji who's a mere has-been.

@vijay,

I respect your emotions and feelings for others.

I just want to convey the point to all that only true talents should lead the music industry so that the golden era of Rafisaab,Kishoreda,Lataji,Ashaji will be back again.

@Hybrid87,
Music is not just making profits. The basic principle of any job is that firstly you should be honest and truthful ,secondly think of profits.
Copying is not a solution for getting fame and profits.
Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's music CD's are selling like hot cakes everywhere and people really adore their music.They dont copy still their music is succeeding.Thats talent.
Regarding Aadeshji,he may not be getting much work like copycats.But whatever Aadeshji or Ismailji
have achieved, its through their hardworks,talent,music knowledge ,dedication ,and most importantly their honesty.So you should respect these kind of musicians rather than copy specialists.

Even I agree with you. Talent is essential but manytimes its destiny which brings sucess. Talent and hardwork are required to mantain that sucess.

Please don't compare Ismail Darbar with Adesh Srivastav, the former's a genius, and the latter's a nobody.
And Phoenix32, the aspirations of these kids go far beyond perfoming bhajans in their Mandirs or being a part of a ghazal outfit. They are all scrambling for a spot in the later rounds of this show not for the affirmation that they are indeed "sureelay" but to break through in the Indian playback industry. There are a million talented singers out there, who are all pretty versatile, pretty sureelay but you see them at country clubs or popular restaurants, a footnote to their regular buffets and all, you send requests to them and they can tackle everything from O Saathi Re to Naughty Naughty, and yet they probably don't make much. So you kinda have to decide, are you in it for the love of music, or do you wanna be successful as well? If its the former then commercial success mustn't matter to you, which to these kids, judging from their reactions to eliminations, it absolutely does. If its the latter then you have to give the public what they want. Sure! you can do it by creating commercially appealing original music, but if thats not your strength (Pritam did start with some original music only to fail miserably), go for bootlegging and and if the result is as catchy as some of the tunes Pritam has marketed, continue doing it.

@Hybrid,

Ismailji,definitely is a genius whereas Aadeshji may not be as good as him.I agree,but he's much much better than Pritam and eligible to sit as a judge.

If kids of reality shows wants to succeed in life as playback singers,whats wrong in it?
By sticking to sing only at Mandirs or bhajans to portray their love for music, wont help to earn their livelihood.

They need to earn money for their family and future.Out of their love and dedication to music,they are leaving their studies and jobs to come here to gain fame ,money etc.
There are millions of talented kids,club singers in all walks of life.Nobody is stopping them from participating in realty shows.

My point is that there is nothing wrong in using your talent and competing with others to make a mark in the music industry.

For example you decide which of the following is right.
1.Getting a job through knowledge,qualifications,experience
2.Getting it through cheating-manipulating,bribing etc

If Pritam is not fit to compose on his own,he should change his profession rather than to steal.
Such a person is not fit to sit as a judge before the musical future of our country.
If our kids follow Pritam's principles of copying,then there wont be any Saregama show.Instead there be shows which demonstrate and inspire kids to copy.
