Also since I haven't seen past few episodes (but have seen yest and today's one) this may be inaccurate/biased

Let me start with the least important mother (atleast as of now) - Kamini..she is clueless and probably useless too..also is greedy enough to give up her only son for the power that she will get in exchange..power that she has been craving...if nothing else..this is one thing she has in common with Satrupa (unfortunately )..the ability to give up on her child irrespective of the circumstances..I know it's harsh to compare Satrupa with a woman like Kamini but that one action of Satrupa..that one crime..of giving up her new born is forever going to be a blog on her as a mother

Pagli Paditayaan : from what has been shown, she is the best (as a mother) of the 5 that have been depicted in the show.. ironically she is the only one who unequivocally loves a child..a girl was wasn't even biologically related to her..yes intial it could have been because she didn't have one of her own..but even after giving birth to a son, she never neglected or loved the adopted daughter any less..never discriminated between the two..neither on the basis of genes nor on the basis of sex..the woman was ready to go to jail just so that her daughter didn't have to go to a place she didn't want to..so attuned is she to her daughter's mood, likes, dislikes..so completely she had accepted Anami as her own
Again ironic that the one who loves her child the most is the one who has to stay away from her..

Gayatri: not much has been shown about her relationship with Baldev except the and peices indicating that she didn't really stand by him when he was disinherited and sort of feels bad about that (though I am not sure whether she was any wrong in not standing up for baldev..young Baldev was a brat and did wrong deeds that he refuses to accept responsibility for) .and maybe she is compensating for not being there for baldev by being a great influence and a good grandmother to Anami..however no matter how nice she is to Anami, she like everyone else has treated Narottam badly..she seems to have a moral code but may not be as stringent about it as one would wish to be

As for Sudha, I am not sure if she had norattam for revenge..to me it feels like she was probably cheated and unhinged as she is..decided to use her own son (whom she hopefully did love till then) to get back at Singh's for not giving her what she deserved..blinded by rage, she doesn't see that she is burning her son in the same rate and ruining his life too..she wants RS and LM for her son..but not just because he deserves it but more so to destruys Vikramaditya and family
I won't be surprised if Narottam is not as feminine as he pretendeds to be ..but acts out a role on Sudhas advice...as of now if there is someone who is pure evil..that's her

Lastly coming to Matlabi Mataji, the most complex of them all..and the one who (or whose depiction) confuses me to no end..she seemed to be a great mother to Vatsalya, but she has failed Anami from the start...gave her up.forgot about her..and then uprooted her from her loving family because she seemed it for to do so..she accepts her mistake/crime but is unapologetic to the point of being indifferent about her crime..she expects Anami to understand her/follow her instructions/accep t her gestures without putting any dedicated efforts into reconciling with her..that too after blackmailing her regarding people she cares for the most..
Making Anami fit to be the heir and ensuring that her "child" gets to control RS and LM is still a priority over what her daughter feels/wants..
Her sense of entitlement trumps her motherly instinct atleast in Anami's case..as great a mother she was to Vatsalya, she is far from endearing herself to her daughter..yes she knows which buttons to push to get a particular response..but has no idea (or patience) regarding to use that knowledge in a constructive way...
Her past experience and the way she was cheated into marriage has probably made her bitter and hardened her..but that shouldn't form a basis for her interactions with Anami as she had no hand in that

the problem with satrupa is that she accepts that she did wrong with anami by giving her away. BUT she has never accepted her mistake for the way she has got anami to lal mahal by blackmailing her, that too by trying to harm her parents who bought her up. and still uses the same tactic to get things done. anyone trying to harm your family is seen as a threat and hate is automatic. Also she is totally disconnected to the phataks & insensitive towards them, those who bought her child up with love, leave gratitude she has no empathy for them.
Also the issue is that she wants anami to forget the phataks and accept her new identity. and that is not possible. why hasnt she tried to make anami atleast meet her parents in between so that the pain of separation is not that much. Anami is a heir for her, her happiness and well being are important to her only to the point if they toe the line of her being on the line of becoming a deserving heir.

@Beena a very good post. Actually there are 5 mothers in the show if you include Gayatri and Adhiraj's mother Jyothi who is no more.

Being a mother, a nurturing force I believe is an intrinsic feeling that is there in every woman. But circumstances and people decide how that force comes out.
In Madhu it came naturally. There are two things for the same. First she has been loved as a wife and murari pathak is a very noble man. They lived a simple yet happy life and in Anami she found the completeness. When latoo happened her family was complete and blissful.

Now comes Satrupa. She was also a mother. But along with that she was also ambitious. Motherhood to her though was choice it was linked to power for her. Because she was not in a good marriage. Her husband didnt love her, he had another woman in his life and a child with her. So this ambition is what made her give away girl and keep the boy. Now she is more concerned about Anami as the heir as she doesnt want what she has build to go to an outsider. When boy is not there, girl also fine is her attitude. Her motherly instinct is mixed with ambition and hence it doesnt come out natural, but then she is also not a bad mother, she is a woman with flaws.

Gayatri her problem was the universal problem of all mothers. My child cannot do anything wrong. So she supported Baldev. Had her dissatisfaction with Satrupa. But as Anami comes as a granny she shows more maturity, putting effort to mend relations. She is also aware of class and status hence she gives different treatment to Anami and to Narotham though both are Baldev's children.

Sudha I have never understood why God bestows motherhood to women like Sudha who only wants to use their children to achieve their goals. Children are nothing but a medium for their revenge, status, fame or whatever. If the child doesnt meet that curse the child, blame the child, berate the child, torture the child. The natural nurturing feminine instinct is completely absent in this woman who is using her son as just a pawn.

Last come Jyothi. I love that name. Jyothi means flame, it means light also. Flame can burn a palace, light can show the path also. This woman is no more. But the sense of purpose, sense of justice that this woman has put in her son, it burns through Adhiraj. I would say Jyothi has raised a good son. A son who has the courage to fight the battle for justice. He might fall, but the light his mother showed will always make him stand up and fight. In the mess of Chakravyuha she will remain the light for Adhiraj. She has always remained that way for him. She has raised a good daughter also. Tanya who sees good in everything. And whatever is going to happen in Chakravyuh Jyothi's children Tanya and Adhiraj would have major role to play and hopefully they will never disappoint their mother who taught them to stand up and fight for their right.

Sruthi 👏 I totally forgot about Jyothi 😳 yes her values have been passed onto Adhiraj and Tanya but more so Adjiraj as he was at an age where things are understood and kept into memory unlike Tanya who was young.

ST 😳 no apologies needed. Satrupa has had it easy with Vatsalya. With Baldev too she says that he was better father, in that scene there was a wistfulness in her tone. Vatsalya never pushed the boundaries never troubled her everything was prim and peoper with Vatsalya a duty that was flawlessly fulfilled but Anami is pushing all the wrong buttons and vice versa too. Hopefully With Anami she's in for a journey of rediscovering herself as a mother. Each child is unique and different. There's no set formula that can be applied.
As for her act of abandoning Anami that one mistake can never be blotted out. Anami's anger and hatred towards Satrupa stems from that brokenness inside her, why me? Was I not good enough for my own mother? The scar of abandonment may heal but will never fade away and I hope the makers keep the mother daughter relationship realistic and not sugarcoat it 😉
