Hola 🤗

How is everyone here. Hope all had a great weekend and a great Raksha Bandhan. Well guys I am once again back with another KaYa scribbling of mine but this time its more of a two shot. Will be posting both parts together but in different posts. This is based on the current track but since I started writing it day before yesterday, I presumed that Anita has accepted to KaYa's relationship but she is still not fully happy. Hope you all like my effort.

Feedback, good, bad or worse, will be anticipated.

Together: In Health and Sickness (Part - 1)

It was the best day of Ananya Kashyap's life.

She was soon going to become Mrs. Ananya Kabir Sharma and there could not be a more beautiful feeling in the world. A misty film formed over her eyes as she stared down at his ring, wrapped proudly around her ring finger. The memory of the love and tenderness that filled his enigmatic chocolate brown eyes when he had went down on his knees and showed the ring to her still clouded her vision and she could still very well feel the resonance of his breath-taking words of proposal reverberate in the air around her. She sighed and rested her head against the soft pillow on her bed. There was something so surreal and intimate about the thought of spending her entire life in the proximate company of this man called Kabir Sharma, that it almost made Ananya feel afloat. For her, everything about her life seemed perfect at the moment, well almost everything.

Though she was now engaged to the man she loved the most in this world, a fact that had her happiness soaring but somewhere Ananya was unable to see the same happiness in her mother's eyes. She knew that though Anita had accepted Kabir as her son in law but surely she hadn't accepted him as a suitable life partner for her daughter. Though she had agreed for their alliance herself, but something surely seemed amiss about her acceptance. And the fact was enough to steer Ananya out of her day dream. She felt worried and confused, unable to decide how to put her mother's fears to rest.

The next morning Ananya woke up with a slight ache in her body and feeling a tad bit feverish. Determined to make Anita understand her point of view this time, she thought of taking a leave from the office and spending some time with her, finally putting an end to this entire confusion around Kabir's past as she could no longer tolerate playing around the bush and feeling guilty, especially at a time when she was supposed to be happy.

Crawling lethargically out of her bed, Ananya leaned over the side table and picked up her phone, looking at it almost mundanely. But her heart instantly raced seeing five missed calls from Kabir. For a fraction of a second, a surge of extreme worry ran down her spine. She immediately tried calling his number but it was out of reach. Disconnecting the call she then checked for the notifications and saw two voice messages from him. Without thinking twice her hand instinctively reached out for the play button and she tapped it in a jiffy.

"Good-morning my sleeping beauty" his husky morning voice rang like a soft melody throughout Ananya's body.

"I know you will be super angry on me so let me apologize first. I am so sorry to have to leave like this, especially on a day that means so much to both of us. But this is urgent Ananya. In case I don't make up to this meeting, KKN might land in a big trouble and Khalid had almost begged me to come along to Singapore. I came to see you in the morning but you were asleep and even looked tired so didn't feel like waking you up. And now that I know you have almost cursed me atleast thrice under your breathe so let me tell you, please forgive me darling. I shall make up for all of it once I return, I promise. Till then please take care of my fiance and don't miss me too much ok...Love you always...muawh"

Ananya found herself smiling as she finished listening to his message. For a second she could not believe this was the same man who had been so strict and stern to her when they had met. It had been a beautiful journey knowing the real him, and feeling so genuinely loved in his warm company. There couldn't have been a better blessing she could have ever asked for. But that wasn't enough for making Ananya angry at him at the moment. She was annoyed and sad to have not been able to see and meet him before he left but somewhere also felt relieved as this would give her the needed time with Anita to tell her the entire truth of Kabir's past.

Hopeful to have a discourse with her mom at the dining table she made an attempt of talking about Kabir and his past but Anita avoided the topic and in no time the discussion shifted to a more crucial subject, the preparation of the engagement.

Ananya spent the rest of her day feeling extremely uneasy and lost. Since Kabir was off work for a few days, she decided to cancel her leave, naturally feeling more accountable to KKN in his absence. But to her KKN no longer seemed the same happy place with Kabir not being around and she could not concentrate on work. Seeing her distracted, Richa tried to pull her leg with an old bolly song and told in a teasing tone how she had suddenly turned into a devdasi' in Kabir sir's absence. But Ronnie could sense something bothering Ananya apart from Kabir's absence. She had hardly eaten the whole day and requested him to drop her home much before the end of the shift. And even after reaching home when he had asked her to talk to Kabir once as it would make her feel better, she turned down the idea saying she didn't want to disturb him amidst work and would rather wait for him to call.

In evening, the two finally got a chance to talk but Ananya's obvious distraction didn't go unnoticed by Kabir. He had felt extremely worried at the hoarseness of her voice but she brushed it off as a case of common cold and cough. But Kabir had certainly sensed something not to be totally ok with her. He again called at night but she was asleep by then.

It was only in the middle of that night that Ananya had suddenly waked up with a bout of severe stomach ache and high fever. She passed out several times after that and by morning Anita noticed a few blisters appear on the skin of her arms and neck. Extremely worried at her condition, Anita called Ronnie to come over as soon as possible and by the next few hours Ananya was diagnosed with a vehement case of adult chickenpox.

Anita could hardly remember herself or any of Armaan or Ananya catching the disease in the past. And hence the doctor advised her to stay at a safe distance from Ananya to avoid spreading the infection. She felt miserable at the thought of not being able to tend to her daughter and insisted the doctor to let her take care of Ananya but at last had to give in when Ronnie and Richa made her realize how she could not afford risking Armaan, who had his board exams from next week. The doctor gave to Ananya a paracetamol injection, something for the rash and some painkillers to relieve the pain of the rashes. After putting Ananya to sleep and making sure the nurse arrived to look after her, Ronnie and Richa left for office.

Together: In Health and Sickness (Part - 2)

Later that day Anita was busy preparing some porridge for Ananya when she heard the doorbell ring. As she went up to open the door, a sense of sheer surprise overtook her seeing an extremely worried Kabir stand at her doorstep. He was slightly drenched and his condition could easily suggest how tensed he was.

"Kabir you had gone to Singapore for an urgent meeting right, then how you managed to come back so soon?" Anita asked closing the door behind him.

"Ma how could have I stayed there hearing about Ananya...how is she now...what did the doctor say?" there was a palpable concern that dripped through his voice and he was so lost that he didn't even realize he had acknowledged Anita as mom for the first time, a gesture that surely didn't go unnoticed from Anita's end.

"She is still having high fever...doctor has given her medicines" Anita told and guided Kabir to Ananya's room.

"Kabir you can watch her from here as doctor has asked everyone to maintain a safe distance to prevent spreading the infection" Anita insisted but felt surprised when she saw Kabir remove his shoes and jacket before entering Ananya's room. He cleaned his hands on a sanitizer and walked back to Anita.

"Ma you don't need to worry" he kept an assuring hand on Anita's shoulders. "I have already got chickenpox during my childhood so it won't affect me anymore. And Ma I am here with Ananya till she fully recovers. You just take care of yourself and Armaan because I am sure Ananya would never like to see any of you in pain because of her" he said, leaving Anita perplexed for a second. Undoubtedly, his words had a certain soothing assurance that Anita wanted to believe him almost naturally. Rather it was almost after a very long time after the death of Ananya's father that Anita had not felt alone in a problem. Somewhere her heart was relieved for Kabir being there and as much as she did not like herself for feeling like this, she could not deny that she too was somewhere melting, well like all other members of her family.

A sense of sheer pain ran down Kabir's spine as he walked to Ananya's bed and saw her limbs and face completely covered in painful red blisters. He almost flinched seeing her in so much of pain and caressed her hair with love. It killed him to see her in such a delicate condition but realizing the task at hand he brushed off his stray thoughts and touched her forehead with the back of his palm. He could still feel her body to be emanating heat and she was slightly delirious in sleep. Making sure to be as gentle as possible he quickly changed the wet cloth on her forehead and replaced it with a fresh one, constantly caressing her hair.

"Relax Ananya, I am here now. Everything will be fine, I promise" he kept on assuring her with his words and her hand was now safely secured between his palms. He continued giving cold sponge to her forehead until she was peacefully sleeping holding closely onto his hand. She was still very pale but her breathing was calm now.

It was only after a few hours that Ananya's fever finally broke and she gained consciousness. She strained to open her eyes squinting at first and then adjusting her vision to the already dimmed lighting in the room. She struggled to move her neck and look around to get an idea about what day or time it was. Each muscle of her body seemed to hurt at the slightest of motion. As she scanned the room to find her mom or her brother and trying to remember what had happened to her, she felt sweetly surprised at the sight before her eyes. It was Kabir sitting on the floor with his head resting on her shoulder, his hand wrapped firmly around hers and eyes closed in half sleep. A faint smile tucked to the corner of Ananya's lip seeing him like that. Feeling totally lost at the track of time and space, she tried to get up but felt him applying a gentle pull on her hand.

"Go to sleep Ananya" Kabir chided in his typical sadu EIC voice and looked up to stare tenderly at her. It was almost after ages that Ananya had heard this voice of his and how much she loved it now! How sorely she had missed him in the past 24 hours. A little tear sneaked its way through the corner of her eyelid as she watched his ever radiant face glow through the dim light of the room. It almost seemed they had been away since ages.

"Aap to meeting ke liye Singapore gaye the ne...phir itni jaldi kaise" Ananya whispered, her voice still groggy due to the effect of the sedatives.

"Ab kya karun Ms. Kashyap mujhe Singapore jakar bhi apni would be wife ki itni yaad aa rahi thi ki mujhse raha hi nahin gaya...to maine bhi kah diya Khalid se...meeting tum sambhal lo main to ja raha hoon apni jaan ke paas" he winked making her smile faintly. Another drop of silent tear escaped the corner of her eyes but he caught it on his thumb this time.

"Maine kaha tha na ab main in ankhon mein aur ansun nahin dekh sakta main. aur humari wajah se to bilkul nahin" he gently wiped the tear from her face. "Ananya I know what is bothering you but agar tum apna khayal nahin rakhogi to don't you think hum sab bhi kamzor pad jayenge. Have you seen Armaan and Ma, kitne pareshan hain tumhein aise dekh kar. You know tum na sherni ho iss family ki. And don't you think agar sherni ghabra jayegi to baki sabka confidence bhi weak ho jayegi...Hmm?" he asked and for a moment Ananya felt absolutely emotional about what he said. This man so knew how to boost her confidence and he was probably the only one who could remind her of her strengths even in an uptight and frail situation like this.

"I love you" she whispered looking deeply in his aquatic eyes.

"I love you too jaan" he smiled and encircled one of his arms around her waist taking her in half hug.

And that was how the nurse found them when she entered Ananya's room after half an hour to administer another injection. The nurse smiled seeing them cuddled to each other and that almost made Ananya blush a shade of scarlet red. Kabir slightly pulled himself away from her and made way for nurse to do her job.

But as soon as he saw the nurse readying the needle, he almost winced at the thought of it hurting Ananya and held her hand tightly even before the needle could enter her arm.

"Don't worry Ananya everything will be fine...you just have to be a bit strong" he grimaced and his expression almost made Ananya chuckle under her breath. Her ever so strong and sturdy boyfriend feared a small needle was a new discovery for her.

"Waise Kabir strong to main rahungi but ye aap mujhe samjha rahe hain ya phir expect kar rahe hain ki main apko samjhaun...that don't worry I will be fine!" she teased, making him give her one of his cutest shy smiles. Ananya giggled at his innocence and continued to tease him for his l'il fear while the nurse finished injecting her without her even coming to know of it.

Anita who was witnessing all of it from a distance felt miserable seeing her resolve weaken slowly, bit by bit this time. And Kabir's invincible love for her daughter was enough to ensure the process continued without fail.

For the next few days, Kabir spent most of his time looking after Ananya. He requested Khalid to let him cover his bulletin from the Kashyap house itself and grant him a work from home till Ananya felt better. Right from waking up to monitor her temperature through the night to giving her company in eating the bland Khichdi doctor had prescribed for her and even to holding her hand each time the nurse would apply the ointment on her painful rashes, there was not even a single second when she needed him and he wasn't around.

"Ma I feel like hiding myself in a room...these rashes make me look so horrible" she had almost freaked out on one of the nights during her recuperation and broke into tears seeing her otherwise unblemished face all red and swollen.

"Ananya are you mad...this is just temporary yrr! They will all be gone in a while" Kabir held her hand and tried to make her understand.

"But it's our engagement after a few days. How can I look so bad on the most important day of my life?" she sulked and covered her face with her hands.

He smiled tenderly at her innocence and removing her hands made her look at him.

"Ms. Kashyap don't you ever forget that my fiance can never look bad. Remember she is the most beautiful girl of this world. And then even if she has these rashes or not, it hardly matters" he whispered almost making her sigh at the intensity and genuineness in his tone.

"I know it doesn't matter for you Kabir, but it does for me. I want to look my most beautiful self for you"

"And I promise you will" he reassured and kissed her knuckles.

A week passed like that and with Kabir's tender love and care, Ananya was slowly regaining her health. Her fever hadn't come back since three days now and the blisters too had started to dry and slowly merge with the tone of her skin. But what made Kabir happiest was the fact that she was once again coming back to her jovial and naughty self. He didn't know if it was their love or the subtle yet visible change in Anita's attitude towards him that made her eyes twinkle again but he was relieved things were getting back to normal once again. Though he hadn't confessed but seeing Ananya in that fragile condition had been emotionally draining for him.

Later that week, Ananya sat quietly on her bed, staring sweetly towards her right. She had almost recovered fully by now and everyone was now allowed to meet and be with her as the disease was no longer infectious. Seeing Ananya so blissfully happy, Anita walked upto her and sat near her bed, her presence suddenly pulling Ananya out of her reverie.

"Thankyou Ma" Ananya whispered, still looking lovingly towards her right.

"Thankyou? For what beta?"

"You remember you told me...it will take some time but slowly I and Kabir will start knowing each other. You were so right ma. I never knew getting to know each other like this can be so beautiful. For these days I have lived with him, my belief that how much I need him by my side has only grown stronger"

A sheet of moisture filmed Anita's eyes as she looked at her daughter being so happy. She glanced towards the right and looked at Kabir who had now dozed off on the sofa, with his diary resting upside down on his chest and his reading glasses still on. He looked tired and stressed, but sans a single line of irritation or disinterest on his face. Anita almost felt a lump building in her throat as a sense of guilt overpowered her clouding her vision with tears. She turned around and looked at Ananya through teary eyes.

"I am sorry beta...please forgive me. Forgive me that I was so harsh on your love" she held Ananya's hand.

"No ma it's not your fault...you just wanted me to be safe. But ma I just want you to know that I am the safest with him...because he makes me feel like home. The way papa used to do, the way you and Armaan do. And that's why I love him so much"

Anita sighed and felt delightfully happy realizing how her daughter had indeed found her soulmate. And how much she would disagree or deny of their relationship, somewhere she too was now assured that Kabir would never let go of Ananya's hand. She slowly moved her hand near Ananya's face and wiped a few tears that had collected below her eyes.

"I know beta...but the way Shreya described him and their troubled marriage I didn't know what to do...I was scared"

"I understand your concern ma but you know what made me so sad. You actually believed Shreya on her opinion about Kabir but didnt believe your own daughter. I wish you had asked me that what I feel about Kabir and believed me instead of a woman who met you only twice" Ananya said making Anita feel embarrassed about her actions.

"And ma I don't know what did she tell you but the fact that even you want to accept Kabir is enough for me to understand that she had lied to you. Do you still think Kabir is like what Shreya described..."

A brief silence fell in the room as Anita looked back at Kabir and remembered all the times he had been all vocal and open about his intentions towards Ananya, the way he had proposed to her in front of the whole office and the way he spent day in and out nursing Ananya back to health. To her utter surprise her daughter's Kabir was not at all similar to the one Shreya had described.

Anita turned back and cupped Ananya's cheek.

"You are right beta...It was me who misunderstood him. May be because I was trying to find Shreya's Kabir in him but what all I see in him is a shadow of my daughter. And I feel so happy but this time you proved me wrong...you can never get a more perfect partner for yourself Ananya"

A bright smile spread across Ananya's lips as she heard her mother say those words. She almost sprang with happiness at her place and cuddled her in a tight hug, her eyes lovingly stuck on the beautiful man who was still innocently slept on the sofa, totally oblivious to how his true love had even moved the rocks. Ananya smiled and felt proud to have him all for herself for the rest of her life.

Finally, her world of happiness was now complete.
