.......TINKERING LAUGHTER.........
The skating ring was jam packed and onl two names could be heard in the noisy cheers….YUVI….ASHI….
Ashi had never felt so confident in her entire life. She was sure that the man by her side would never let her lose and she shown him her dazzling dimples which brought a twinkling gleam to his eyes." Wacko this victory is ours, and then just you and me.." he said and touched her dimples wid a look that made her checks go red instantly.
Ashi could feel all those things he would do to her once the race was over. She could feel his hair tickling her ear lobes, his hands resting on her waist and drawing her dangerously close, his eyes calling out to her and hypnotizing her in their trance,
and she could also feel him grabbing her. She looked confused and chided at herself "du-huh Ashi you would get all of him but please can you concentrate on the race for once instead of day dreaming about him."
And so the race begun. Additya was no match to the devastating combo of theirs. They had won all the rounds and were sure that the medal of victory belonged to them.
Yuvi was grabbing her closer and closer and ashi was swaying on her skates. They danced away to glory, not caring for a split of a second what the onlookers thought. She was unsure of her moves but she knew that he would not let her fall. They danced like those two teens who had found the joy of love for the first time and he swirled her round and round.
The extent of her happiness was crystal clear in her smile. It was perhaps the most precious smile the onlookers had ever seen as it was secured by the contentment of love.
She danced away from him going round and round on her skates, shouting, laughing, shrieking as her heart was now a small abode for her all her surging happiness. She came back towards him losing all control over her balance yet unperturbed, unnerved, sure of the fact that he would hold her and end this magical dance with a cherished kiss.
She felt his gaze on her lips and she made sure they were perfect for his lingering touch. As she came nearer she could feel her skin burn with the warmth of his love and she could feel her breath stopping half way as she caught up with his million dollar smile. She stretched her hand for him to hold it for life.
He took it and send her smashing away to the other end of the ring where she hit the pole and fell.....
There was pin drop silence in the ring but still the laughter and mockery in certain pair of eyes were shouting like an amplifier. And then the ring roared with applauding claps.
She was unsure of what she was witnessing but she knew it this was the worst experience of her life and she wondered just falling in a grave hidden with pounds of earth was so much more easier and less harassing. But the grave would have to wait for there were realities and humiliations left to be faced.
She saw Aditya hugging him as if they were long lost brothers. She saw Sid coming up and congratulating him. She saw Tia and her angels laughing at the red head girl as if she were a clown meant only for their entertainment. She saw all his friends giving him a victory ride as if he had conquered the world. And she saw him…
She saw him and realized that she was seeing him perhaps for the first time ever. Those dark eyes which she had known since eternity, now belonged to a deceiving stranger. The layers of love that rested in them replaced by gruesome pride and malice.
He sat down besides her and looked her straight in the eye, for a second she felt his gaze reaching out to her soul, for a second she felt his look telling her that his love was real and only for her. But then she heard his laugh.
He laughed as if he this was his first ever laugh, he laughed at the pureness of love flowing through her eyes, laughed at the numerous amount of dreams that blossomed in them, laughed at the disbelief that told he it was all a nightmare, laughed at the shattered heart which hung as tears in her eyes……….
……………..the pillow which she was hugging as support and warmth for her frozen heart was all wet by the scalding heat of her tears that washed away all her dreams and left behind the pinching reality which she awakened to. In the past two days this same dream had tormented her in sleep and had left behind a numbness with which she was now accustomed.
She got up to get rid of these tears which weekend every bone of her body. She washed her face and applied a blush on and mascara of a bold front as she always did to face the hurricane.
Ashi had grown up with just one phrase from her mother, "mummum, gabber singh kahta hai jo darr gaya so marr gaya" Though just a dialogue from her mother's favorite movie, yet it held in it the essence of life. And she thanked her mother at this moment for not letting her sleep till she recited this line thrice every single night, as if it were some enchanting mantra which would kill all the demons.
And it actually had been her Armour to fight life heroically, but today the demon who haunted her dreams have had his possession over her and her heart.
She was swayed by the blinding love with the hope that she would find her gabber singh who would fight all her battles. She had forgotten in his charisma that if battles weren't fought on our own then demons were bound to win.
She knew she would rise back from the embers of her ashed life. But all she had lost was that one priding joy which he would die with, ….that her love was for real and not fake like the demon's charm.
She knew she would turn back to life but for now she had become weary of the silence where she could here his whispering voice calling out names of endearment to her. She went and shunned his voice with the voice of Love Guru who was busy solving the paradox of love on air.
"so all you wonderful people out there who have been hit by the love storm, here I am your very own Love Guru and now lets here it for our next caller, hello dude or dudes, the whole nation is at your service, so speak your heart out." … and the room hummed with the most sexy and soothing voice ashi had ever heard.
"Hi, I am yuvi, till now I prided in being Yuvraj Dev, son of The Yashwant Dev. I lived life like a king without even realizing that I owned not even a shelly. But today I know that she rightly calls me the biggest loser of the world. Life gave me one priceless gift with which I could buy all happy tears and smiling sorrows. But I was to small in stature to realize its worth. I crushed it beneath my admonished laughter and now all I am left with is the realization of true love. I know, I have hurt her perhaps more than any hurt she went through, but I am glad I did it coz it was perhaps the only possible way where I could realize that I was shellfish enough to shatter that one reality which occurred in my unreal world just to save my delusion. I know right now she is hating me, cursing every single moment she spend with me, loathing every single kiss, but I know that one look she gave me was full of real love and I would do anything to win back that look, that trust and that heart. This is to my girl wherever she is…"
And the whistle tune started ringing loudly from the black stereo and ashi could see him doing the whistle dance and calling out for her…"Hey you, will you dance with me now and Forever." But this time ashi knew her moves well and she was sure that she would not let herself lose ground. All she could do now was just laugh.
Laugh at the sincerity in that voice, laugh at the irony that though she had been trampled yet in the end she won, as the love which was moribund and dying in her scared heart was sowing its seeds in his revived heart, and she laughed yet again at the bitterness of life. What remained to be witnessed was who would have the last tinkering laughter.....
