Absolutely...it also creates more problems for the women in general...sexual harassment...rape. I think it's just ignorance that has lead to such beliefs that a woman plays a role in determining the gender of a child.

The original premise of the story was indeed that Samrat could not father a child. This episode aired in early february, between the time Paro comes back to the haveli as Rudras fiancee and the marriage ceremonies start. He tells her in their room that they do not need havans, etc. But he is still against adoption, because his mother will never ket them hear the end of it. Zees interview also shows that Maithili will never let this "failing" of her husband be known.
I think this will be the time that they will show that Samrat is infertile... He should ideally come out and say it, because Mohini needs a severe life lesson, real hard, real fast. I do not think they will change the story. Lets wait and watch.

I have been in such a situation myself. We didnt have children and even though it was never clearly stated but there were insinuations. In our society too, women tend to keep this fact to themselves to protect the ego of their partners, leaving them vulnerable to taunts and abuse and when the going gets tough, the woman is left to fend for herself bc the man continues to hide this fact to protect his image. A lot of times, this leads to a meltdown of marriages.

Im not really sure whether it is a wise decision or not. I did the same as maithili but was abandoned by the man who felt burdened with complexes. What i fail to understand is why do others have to bother with this. Whether to have children or not or even having the ability to do so is strictly between the couple. When we as a society are so embarrassed by the process (read s*x) and refuse to discuss it, why bother abt the result. Let the couple find their own equation in the relationship. At least it would save a lot of heartache to the woman who is already reeling from the pain of being robbed of a chance at motherhood

Thanks more sharing your personal experience with us ...it's really commendable. Not many of us have the courage to do so. The problem with such societies is of-course double standards and absolutely no sense of privacy. Yes, it's a couples business but alas...who will let the people know that? It's like everyone else's business other than the actual people in question.

Good post! And this question will remain unanswered forever - will Samrat stick by Maithili like this if it really was HER who cannot conceive? Will he not give into his mother's wishes of having a heir? 😕 With Samrat's horrible support at the beginning it doesn't look like he would.

That is why i admire RR. They speak of topics that are concerned taboo -- Male infertility, No-strings-attached relationships, Abusive relationships where male is clearlt shown guilty... I hope they bring forth the issues of adoption (with Maithili-Samrat) and widows remarrying (with Rudra-Paro) and handle the issues nicely.

Thanks...Initially it was stated that Samrat was the one with problems but it seems that they have deliberately changed the plot making it Maithili's problem. It looks like they will not make it an exception in showing male infertility...Samrat's dialog was very clear today...it looks like they are opting for a bigamy track.

But in this show - Maitili is the one who is stopping Samrat from telling it, not the other way round. See whatever taunts Mohini might make in front of Maitili -Samrat, mohini might not know but all of those are barbs for Samrat - not Maitili.
Because they know the truth!

Samrat might not have a spine most of the time, but he does love his wife.

But if the situation was reversed i don't know if he would have had the guts or enough love to stick to his wife!

Samrat is basically a spineless man. I am really eager to know whether he would feel the same if the problem would be actually with Mailthili. I just feel that although Mailthili asked him not to...he should have said the truth because Mohini's taunts are not just harmless outbursts ...they are hurtful and abusive.

I guess so.

Hopefully...it would be a great way to send out a message emphasizing on the fact that a male can be infertile too...and not just a woman.

Really nice post. If only women had this right or the voice to say their feelings regarding such matters, many countries would have been a better place.

See samrat has not yet revealed that it is his problem... I have a hunch samrat is infertile and it will be revealed later...or very soon by next week..
but lack of child or lack of make child is a very dominant issue in indian families even in singapore...I see some of my friends who are childless being gently nudge which is damn irritating,,,

A couple may chose not to have a child... If they are career oriented, or some other interest oriented.. Why should it be considered a sin..
If the parents know they don't have the means or time to bring up a child rather than make him feel unwanted like rudra not have a child..

I have a friend who is in her mid thirties... She had 6-7 abortion after her first female child... Be cause she wanted her second to be a male one..and she told me blatantly she is. Not the only one there are Many ladies who have done this in singapore .. As we get to know the sex of the foetus..
I found the matter disgusting..

I also have a couple of friends who have 2 daughters.. Who have been mocked at by their friends ..I am not talking about rural india..
These are Non resident Indians where most of the ladies are college educated and are holding on to some jobs..
If this is their thinking how can we point fingers at mohini who has not stepped foot out of her village...
