some shows will be scrapped , new positioning and image , because distribution is a step wise , yeah more distribution too

The probelm is all non fiction shows in colours are weekend shows . The weekday shows are daily soaps and quite weak...they need to get the right mix . I just realised sony this week is 340 and colours 347 ...so colours better get their act together soon ...

yes basically most shows have a contract of one year and not more than that. So i hope RR atleast runs for a year, anything less than that will be disappointing, and if it runs more a more time then I will be happy and will expect that they explore the story and the plot which has connection to the actual theme of the story and do not feed us illogical kitchen drama.

BB , KTK < KNK are all watched by a more urban crowd , distribution will not be a major challenge in these shows

and men also watch these shows KNK i mean , so existing network they can leverage with reality show

image is one thing , the reason for khunki , kahanni to be taken off inspite of reasonable trps then , star wanted an image change

i dont think colors want an image similar to a star

because non fiction is a less crowded , or less competitive space , fiction on the other hand is not my best guess they will revamp , total image change , new shows , a few new good concepts in fiction now

the group wants to be NO1 not a 2 or 3 , thats why they wanted to make space of their own , that i feel prompted them to venture into reality show rather than fiction

but yeah fiction is a major contributor , cant ignore

Jaz, i feel they should not drag RR beyond limits, if the story has a good closure then they should end it. A one year run is decent for a show, already we can see how CVs are trying hard to baffle us with so many plots at a time, the show must end before viewers lose interest.

That's true one year is perfect! But ending a show before one year will leave such a depressing feeling

Reality shows are also very expansive to mount as the judges / hosts like salman khan charge massive amounts ...the reality shows basically grab huge eyeballs for the channel but sometimes the revenue just does not match up. BB for example last year got avg trp's of 2.5/2.6 ...

Fiction comparitively is a safer area as costs are under control but then you also have to invest in fiction .in terms of script / story etc ...once the audience is hooked , everything else follows...

Colours needs to strengthen their fiction shows , their weekend shows and various reality shows are all sorted . It is an exact opposite of star plus but seeing the difference in the ratings of star and colours ...its the fiction shows which make the difference.

yes non fiction is expensive , but i think colors went for it in the initial years for this reason that it gets them a lot of visibility , BB have low trps but was spoken about every where twitter ,FB , among BW , which leads to higher subscription and also ad revenue from BB is much greater for the channel

fiction my guess is they will limit the number but work on quality , may get some big names to make the show

like when i decide to choose channel , star is chosen for the daily soap category , colors will be chosen for the reality show , not a second option for fiction shows , that is a unique positioning and attempt to be market leader in their chosen space

i doubt whether they will diverge from this

thats why i feel they will revamp

i agree wid u completely i have same thinking about clours bcoz of this. i have started bcoz of RR only. i least bothered abt any other shows. i feel irritated only by promos of these shows it self

I agree non fiction gives them visibility but not always proportionate adv revenue. Last year when BB was running ...colours in the third quarter of the financial year actually went in the negative ! Expanditure in the show was more than the revenue earned ...I remember reading an article on the same as the tv industry was shocked ...

The top 2 channels ie star and zee are fiction dominated with a sprinkling of reality shows . Colours needs to get the balance right between fiction / reality ...purely being reality / non fiction show centric wouldn't earn them the revenue and also will be an expensive exercise.
