I want to know who the stylist and costume designer for this show is. I think this person should win every award there is in telly-land for sheer genius. He/She is utterly talented, because when you think about the budget, she has to improvise hugely with very low level materials to come up with these outfits--while staying consistent with each character's "look."
Sanaya should NOT be complaining, man! She just needs to go on You-Tube to see what untalented hacks like her previous show's costume designers can do to even a ridiculously gorgeous woman like her! Just recall the skintight suits KKG wore!! Nothing against the look, but come on, other than color, they were ditto copies of each other, with even the zari work being the same from suit to suit. There is character consistency and then there is laziness in design! Ek mota roll zari-lace thi, kuch colorful balls thi, woh sub suit pein set kiya, dental-floss wide dupatta daal diya, aur "style" khatam!
Anyone remember KKG's utterly HORRIBLE post-wedding anarkalis with the cheap velvet bands that made someone like Sanaya look ordinary? How about the yawn inducing green/pink wedding jodha for our KKGSR in the most anticipated wedding of TV's biggest serial (at the time)? How about ASR's EXACT same Hermes shoes for literally 1.5 years? And they had a budget for costumes that was for sure bigger than RR's--IPK was a Star Plus show, a bigger production house. They just had a completely ordinary, tailor-master running the clothing dept.
In contrast every single ordinary ghagra that every character has worn on RR has been unique. EVERY time, its something new. The thought into each patchwork-choli, the color combinations, embroidery, mixed material work like mirrors and beads and gold wirework--each piece has been drool-worthy. You have not seen these combinations before--and they work because of the artistic eye using them. And they are not expensive, but stylish. If this is now Rajasthani village girls are dressing nowadays, I am moving to Birpur, even if the Thakur sends me Sarhad Par. At least I'll die well dressed.
What an eye for color too, guys! Mixing bhi kitna stylish! Even for the other characters---even Kakisa's more maternal ones, or Maithili's clothing-- "daily" outfits have been inspired designs, staying true to the character "look" while making each new costume change hatke, different.
They have someone with incredible talent coming up with every look and then accessorizing just perfectly. Its not about money--its about talent. And of course, each wedding outfit--my drooling is no longer limited to Moochiya, baisas! I look forward to the clothing now, just as much.
PS: Yes. I am ignoring the green dupatta Ashish wore in the tea-cup scene. I choose to believe Ashish forgot the costume designer's birthday, so she punished him by stealing my old bandhini dupatta from 2002 and wrapping it on him with a few safety pins and no buttons. He has apologized to her, and bought her a cake, so he is back to being dressed like a king.
Bol diya.
Now aap ki baari--what has been your favorite look till date?
