Dr. Shaantanu Sachdev's Private Practice
He is finishing up his consult with his third patient this morning when he realizes that the annoying buzzing sound was his Iphone going off this time and not his gadget obsessed, narcissistic, and notoriously rich brunette patient he had been in session with.
"Well Ms. Brooks I think we are at a good point to stop here today…"
"You think so Doctor…"
"Yes, considering you have prior commitments with other people I assume…"
"Oh! You mean this…" She lifts up her phone and waves it in the air.
"Yes…you know the sessions would really help if you kept that thing away for our time…"
"I would if I could…and you can't be calling this "our" time… I don't even know why I come here…"
"Well that's what I'd like to know as well Ms. Brooks…maybe next time when you aren't preoccupied…" He makes his comment in a very smooth manner as the sharply dressed brunette stood up on her red stilettos and smiled while reaching for her Dolce & Gabbana hand bag.
"You know it's that wit of yours that keeps me coming back here…I'll see you next week Doctor." She replies before seeing herself out the door.
The Psychiatrist in Shaantanu always found the twisted mentally of such patients interesting and if it had been any other person in his place, he'd read Ms. Brooks personality in a completely different demeanor. Perhaps she would have been flirtatious and promiscuous in her actions, but behind her cherry red lipstick and well dressed body there is a mentally disturbed patient. A mere victim to loneliness and emotional instability; a mind so tangled in its own web that it is beyond repair. As of now Shaantanu isn't sure how he'd approach treatment for her, but he is going to give his best shot just as he always does with every case, with every patient,
He reaches for his phone after closing off Ms. Brooks's session file on his desk and realizes that Madhavi had called him twice and left him a voice mail since he hadn't picked up at his end.
"Shaantanu call me back…aur ho sakay toh ghar jaldi aajao…Raina ki tabiyaat kuch theek nahi hai…"
It was brief and he had picked up on his mother's genuine concern for Raina. He sighs hanging up the phone and allowing himself only a few moments to consider Madhavi's words, her plea to head home early. He picks up his office phone…
"Yes Doctor…?
"Hey Rach… that appointment at 1:00…"
"Yes Doctor, he just got here…"
"Yeah, go ahead and send him in…Thanks…"

Midtown Manhattan
Malik Enterprise Firms
Yuvraaj Malik and Armaan are enjoying their midday meal while discussing the stock values of the shares that there renowned firm is upholding for its shareholders for the upcoming year. It's a lot of business talk between the two of them and for a good thirty minutes it's like their old lives are still intact and nothing has changed about the good old days. There is no mention of personal concerns and home lives from either of them and it's purely numbers and statistics for the two of them.
"Come on Dad…you've gotta agree, market is benefiting on either ends…"
"It is, but only as a service Son…"
"That's what we do…that's what they teach you in school nowadays Dad…I've got a MBA to prove it…" Armaan says sipping down his diet coke watching his Dad finish off his Ricotta Panini.
"You have always been the kind to prove Armaan…so tell me how are things going with Khanak…? How is my bahu…?"
There is silent on his end as Yuvraaj hadn't look up from his plate. Armaan looks around his lavish office, thinking of something to say.
"Oh is that you being speechless son…? The thought of your wife got you thinking…"
"No Dad…I was just…"
"I am really happy for the two of you…she is really starting to get blend in here, with her new job and everything…she is trying her best…"
"Yeah…I guess she is…" Armaan replies with a subtle smile not wanting to ruin his Dad's peace of mind with his honest reply.
"Armaan I know you are probably going out of your way in connecting with her… I understand that, I do…but you've gott'a put yourselves in her shoes every now and them too…it's been a huge transition for her as well…a tragic one to begin with…"
Armaan wanted to spit out his true feeling and put the obvious out there for his father, but he doesn't. He only internally dialogues and admits that "the only tragedy Khanak has faced is this marriage…a relationship that she never willingly accepted nor will ever accept…"

100 Maspeth Avenue at Olive St, Brooklyn
Darya's Preschool
He is walking down Maspeth Avenue to pick up his daughter from her pre-school that ended good two hours ago. His last patient had kept him in office beyond his time limit and then the evening traffic through Midtown had delayed him even farther. His haste to get inside the school building would have led him up the front steps but his daughter laughter reaches his ears and he turns to find her on the swing in the play area. She isn't alone; in fact she has got reliable company of her class teacher, Miss. K.
"Hey Muchkin..!" He walks up to them and acknowledges Darya with his slight wave.
"Daddy…!" She jumps off the swing only to be supported by Khanak's arms and runs in to Shaantanu to hug him endearingly.
"I am so sorry…you must've been…"
"I had fun…Miss. K wuz heeere…" Darya explains tugging on her father's charcoal trench coat and he looks over at Khanak standing in near distance to them, smiling.
"I am so…"
"It's okay…as Darya said, we had fun…" She cuts him short of his apology.
"My mother was supposed to get her but…"
"It's okay…I didn't mind…"
"Thanks…" He allows himself a moment to observe her kohl lined eyes and when Darya's hand taps on his shoulder his reverie is broken and he turns.
"Mr. Sachdev…" She calls out to him, he turns wearing a curious expression.
"Shaantanu…Miss. K…its Shaantanu…" He corrects her.
"Right…umm..I just…"
"Yeah…??"
"Darya was sneezing a lot today…aggar ho sakay toh haldi vaala garm dhood day deejiyaay ga raat ko sonay se pehlay…" Her soft tone makes her comment extra caring for some reason and he smiles fully at her.
"Okay…anything else…?"
"No…that was all…" She walks up a step towards him, reaches out and fixes Darya's hoodie on her fluffy bright pink jacket and mouths a silent good bye to her. Darya smiles widely at her gesture.
"Bye…" He says as she looks up at him.
"Take care…" She says stepping back.

Night-time
Sachdev Household
"Here have these meds…your fever is finally getting a little better now…" He places the antibiotics in front of Raina while checking her forehead for the fever.
Raina sits up with his support and takes the meds. The sickness had made her weak and oddly enough made him concerned enough to talk to her, to touch her.
"Thanks…I…"
"You need rest…sleep this thing off and you'll be better…" He turns around taking the empty glass of water from Raina's hand.
"What I said…about Robert…I didn't mean to…"
"But you said it…and nothing changes that..."
"Shaa…" She calls out again but he is already out of her sight, out of their bedroom.
Madhavi sees Shaantanu stepping out in the living room and walks up to him in the living room.
"Kya baat hai Shaantanu…?"
"Nothing…app jaag rahi hain abb tak…?"
"Haan maine soocha ke Raina ko dekh aao…"
"Voh soo gayi hai Ma…I have given her some antibiotics…"
"Acha voh Darya tumhara pooch rahi thi…bahut mushkil se room mein gayi hai…"
"Haan main bus ja he raha tha uss ke pass…umm…Ma voh app…"
"Haan beta kaho..??"
"App aik glass garm haldi vaala doodh bana daygi…Darya ke liye…"
"Haldi vaala doodh…?? Tumhay yeh kisnay yaad dila diya….?"
"Nahi voh sardi ke liye acha hota hain…hain na…?"
"Haan bahut acha hota hai…main bana kar laati hoon…"
"Thanks Ma…"
"You're welcome…" Madhavi comes forward and squeezes his hand, assuring him that she is here for him even when he feels no one else is.

Malik's Penthouse
12:15 PM
Armaan is wrapping up his project flies when he hears some sort of a whooshing sound coming from the kitchen this late at night. He had told Khanak he'd be busy with some office work after their routine dinner with formal exchanges about their day and such. She should've been deep asleep according him, but she wasn't.
"Khanak…??"
"Oh!" She steps back from the kitchen counter with her hand on her heart, startled by his presence.
"Sorry…did I scare you…?"
"No…I… maine soocha app ke liye coffee bana doon…lakin yeh machine kuch…" She points to the espresso machine and the mess around it before grabbing a clean paper towel from the opposite end of the kitchen counter.
Armaan observes her as she begins to clean up the coffee and spilled milk over the counter. He is genuinely touched by her gesture and walks over to her, reaches his arm out, and turns her by her elbow.
"You are awake making coffee for me at this hour…??"
"Attempting…" she says sheepishly.
He lets go of her elbow and smiles, she smiles back as well. Their first light hearted exchange in days and they both feel good about it.
"You've got to get the settings right first…" He moves towards the espresso machine and shows her the buttons that she hadn't pushed.
"Voh vaala button kyun…?"
"Water boil karnay ke liye…"
"Oh…okay…"
"Then hit this big knob and put your mug under here…give it five minutes and you should get a cup of good espresso…" He places the mug in its right place and turns to her.
"Stove per bana leti hoon bas yeh…"
"It's okay…now you can use this as well…" He assures stepping up closer towards her.
"Hmm…" She draws her gaze to the floor and nods.
Armaan's hand reaches towards her straightened layers coming on to the side of her face. He tucks them behind her ear and notices that she is adorning a small zirconium stud in her right ear. His hand lingers behind her ear lobe and she feels her breath constrict in her throat, an uncomfortable vibe reverberates through her. Her face is lifted by his thumb pushing up her chin. She knows her pupils are dilated unlike his calm grey ones.
"Can we start over…?" His soft breath touches her face due to close proximity. She remains frozen in place for a moment longer.
"Huh…?"
"You and I...let's mark a beginning from this moment on…"
"Hmm…" she nods somewhat uncertain of her answer but she knows if she had said anything else it would've have taken the moment in an unwanted direction.
"Good…then let's give each other another try…" He leans forward and plants a quick kiss on her cheek which dries up her throat completely and she has to gulp down this sharp feeling to be able to breathe again.
He moves back and smiles fully at her again before turning to grab the coffee mug from the espresso machine. He gives it to her first and then dispenses himself some as well in another mug. They share their likes and dislikes of beverage choice over coffee and she remembers Espresso Macchiato and its significance.
