PART VI

They wake up in each other's arms..she smiles at him..she is about to get up when.. he pulls her back..she yelps..

She: Chodiye..mujhe kuch khana hai..mujhe bhook lagee hai..

He: (small smile): mujhe bhi..

She: Achaa..(bites his ear and grins)

He: Ouch..(grins back): ab meri baari..

She gives in..He takes..

She is rushing after breakfast..she has a submission..and she cannot seem to find some papers..he returns upstairs to get his wallet and kiss her goodbye..he holds her from behind..

She: Chodiye mujhe!..mujhe dair ho rahee hai..upar se aaj submission..

He: (turns her towards him): Dair tho mujhe bhi ho rahee hai.. lekin main tumhaare liye rukka hoon..tum kab aaogee..(takes her hand puts it around his neck)..aise mujhe gale lagaogee..(kisses her)..aur kahogee..mat jayiye na!!

She: (shy smile): Aap bhi na..(holds his face): Aaj ke liye chale jaayiye..lekin wapas jaldi mere paas ayiye..aur kuch nahin chahiye mujhe..

He: (holds her face..tucks her hair): Main tumhaare bina..(does not finish)

He gives her a quick kiss ..hears his father call..he makes a face..she pushes him..

She: jayiye..office mein bahut kaam hai aapko..aapka mill ka project ka kaam jo hai..

He: (irritated and sits down): Tum kyun nahin chalee jaatee..?

She: (pulls him up): Oh ho..chaliye..mujhe bhi dair ho rahee hai..

The evening sees Daadee extremely happy with her favorite bahu..they are grinning..she is retelling the events of her day to Daadee..in her heart she waits for only him.. he is not back yet..and his phone seems switched off..Akshay and Sunil have returned from work..she looks out for him..Akshay lets her know he is busy with the investor meeting..Daadee and she leave for the market..he calls home to be told so..

He returns late..tired..frustrated..another failed attempt.. wants to have nothing to do with anyone ..Harilal takes his bag..he enters the dinning room unknoting his tie..the family seems extremely happy..

Sunil: Arrey tum aagaye..tumharee biwi ne aaj kamaal kar diyaa..

He: (small forced smile): Achaa..

Daadee: Haan..usse apni submission mein awall number mile hain..

He: (no smile..sits down): that's nice..

Akshay: And it seems..tumne uskee madat kee..

Madhavi smiles..

Boo: Cute!

Sunil: You know what..JJ mere bte ko jana chahiye tha..aur office mere bahu ko..

He: (fists his hand under the table and mutters): That's not a bad idea!!

Madhavi: Sunil..please for once..office ki baatein office mein..

Daadee: Chalo..sab log khaalo..baatein baad mein kar sakte hain

She looks at him wanting him to look at her..but he does not..his heart tells him to..he wants to look at her..and then suddenly while she serves him..she stands to do so..and her mangalsutra peeps out..dangles at him..reminds him of his place..a fiend of sorts enters him..he wants to tell her..he is the husband..she is the wife..and what does that mean exactly?..how does he know?..he had not even signed up for it..

He raises his hand as though to say don't want any..

He: that's okay! Aur nahin chahiye..

She: Aap kuch aur lenge..

He: (waves his hand): Why don't you sit down? Tum apna khana khaa lo..

She is shocked..confused to no end..she bites her lip..Daadee and Madhavi look on..

Madhavi: (softly): Tum baith jao..woh le legaa..

Daadee: (appreciative glance at Madhavi): Haan beta..tumne kal raat bhi khanna nahin khaaya..

That should deter him..but he pretends it does not..she sits down..swallows her tears..eats..so does he..eat that is, for he refuses to swallow his pride..

Dinner is over..the family is seated in the living room..He sits on a single sofa..she assists Harilal in the kitchen..she hopes for him to come into the kitchen and check on her..he sits and is flipping pages of a magazine..he knows he has to have a conversation with his father..

Sunil: THo tumne kya faisla kiyaa hai?

He: I don't know Dad..I am at a loss..I have tried everything and I don't think its working..mujhe nahin lagta ki yeh project kaamiyaab hogaa..

Sunil: Tum itne jaldi haar kaise maan sakte ho..?

Akshay: Dad..ek minute..chotey..are you sure?

He: Yes..I am..the margins are too low..no matter hum kitne numbers ko crunch kar le..

She enters the room..

She: Bhaiyaa..Bhabhee bulaa rahee hai..

Sunil: bahu..tumhara kya rai hai?

She: Jee..mera?

Sunil: Haan..

She: Jee..kisss baare mein? (watches him flip through his magazine)

Sunil: Humein marketing mein kuch ideas chahiye..aakhir kapde ke mill ke presentation mein tumne madat ki thee..

She: Jee..main inn sab ke baare mein kuch nahin jaantee..main tho buss unki madat ..jaise aaj subah unhone meri madat ki..buss.. (glances and immediately looks away from him)

He looks at her face..she is hurt..he knows..he melts..the fiend has made way for a friend..he realizes he was too hard..no matter what where when..credit should be given where its due..he wants her to know that..he would be there for her..always..always..

He: (stands up..holds her by the shoulders and brings her forward): Come on..mujhe pata hai..tumhare paas bahut saare ideas hai..aajao..

She: (realizes this is his way of taking back his behavior towards her..smiles a small smile..sits down)..

They discuss..He gets up to attend a call..and while he is away..she suggests a marketing idea to Sunil..Sunil is convinced..Akshay returns..they number crunch..and it seems like it would work..He comes back only to be told that they have discussed it and they shall meet in the morning about it..She has gone back to their bedroom already..he walks up the stairs..

In their bedroom later..he sits waiting on the bed..she comes out of the bathroom..he wants to know..

He: Tho tumne kya suggestion diyaa..?

She: (stands in front of him and excitedly): Jee..main soch rahee thee..agar hum kapde ko 'handloom' ya 'handicraft' karke market karein..lekin boutique clientele ho..tho hamare margins ko humbadhaa sakte hain..

He: (stares at her..): Arrey wah! JJ ka yeh course tumhein badal diyaa..

She: JJ ne nahin..main tho pehle se hi..bahut smart hoon..!

He: Achaa (small smile)..lekin agar tum JJ nahin jaatee tho shayad inn sab ka pata nahin hota tumhe..i mean after all Bombay aakar..

She: lekin main dhulwaadi mein kuch aur kar leti..!

He: Shayad..ya shayad??..(stops himself)

She: Aap suraj ki baat kar rahe ho na??..(bends to her knees in front of him and holds his hand): Shayad Suraj bhi aap ki tarah mera saath deta..

He: (smiles): Achaa..(runs his thumb over her lips): aur tum uske liye sirf gaal pe kiss..how sad!!

She: (stands with folded hands across her chest): Sirf gaal pe kiss kyun??..mujhe bahut saare kiss aate hai..

He: (stands up himself): Oh hello..tumhe kuch nahin aata..sab kuch mujhe seekhaana padta hai..okay..

She: (animatedly): Aap??..agar main naa kahoon..tho seekhana kya..aap kuch kar bhi nahin paayenge..

He: (animatedly):What do you mean NA kahoon?..tum kyun Na kahogee?..tumhe tho seekhne mein itna mazaa jo aata hai..

She: mazaa..aap tho aise baat kar rahe ho..jaise mazaa sirf ek tarfa hai..hmph!!..

He: What nonsense yaar..

She: Aur nahin tho kya? Aap apne maze khud uthayiye..main chalee sone..(climbs onto the bed and covers herself)

He: Arrey?!!?!..(lies down next to her): Maze ka mazaak bana diya..

She giggles..forgets completely that he never once asked her or congratulated her on her submission..His eyes close..mentally he is exhausted..

you have this uncanny ability to get your readers to feel the emotions of and for your characters. be it in the first update or the last. it just gets u.

this is only the beginning for them. there is a lot to learn. their solace is their friendship. their fights/arguments.
