As much as I love his typical chavinistic nuances, I wait *tapping my foot* and *crossing my arms across my chest*..
Dude.. I love you bol daal baap.. she will be the most happiest!!! And that will make me happy too...
I completely agree with Ad...
Wah wah! Kya baat kahi hai
I completely agree with Ad...
Jess...I am a believer of relationships and connections where you never have to say I love you...in real life, and in reel...to me the constant I love you is like the whipped cream over chocolate ice-cream...it looks great, but tastes artificial..and frankly unecessary...What a story it would have been ...if shanak went through life...Him taking care of her when she is sickShe joining a course and he helping her in her homeworkHim getting a promotion and crazilly trying to call her firstShe having him in her prayers firstHim making coffee for her every morningShe ironing his shirts again when he knows there is an important meetingHim refusing to go for drinks with friends becos she is waiting for himonly to return home to find her fast asleep on the sofa waiting for him.She and Him fighting over the remote controlShe eyeing him to give up in a chess gameHe willingly doing itShe glaring at him when He is teasing her among friendsBoth of them knowing too well that making up shall be all that more enjoyable..Both of them ordering in a resturant and finishing off each other's ordersBoth of them taking long silent walksBoth of them having long phone talksBoth of them missing each other and when they meet...make up sessions take a bow...Love is not looking into each others eyes...it is holding hands and looking into the same direction...Love is never having to say I LOVE YOU...
Aditeee ...
PART 39
Khanak: Umm' its OK'' its not a big deal ("Oh! God! What am I getting myself into" haunted her)
Shaan: It has to be sized. You can bring Ritu along if you like (walking the hallway slowly, towards the lobby), she can help you choose?
Khanak is suddenly reminded of how she is even going to break this news to her.
Khanak: I can ask her (finally one answer in the affirmative)
He stops in the lobby, just behind the door
Shaan: When is your birthday? (looking at her)
Khanak: Not for a couple of months.
Shaan: There is probably a date you were born? (mocks)
Khanak: June 24th.
Shaan: Thanks. We should be married by then, so we can plan later.
Her heart drums away, the vibrations travel all over her body.
She nods, and agrees inaudibly.
Shaan: Wont you ask me mine? (amused)
Khanak: Yep!
Shaan: November 11th
"over six months away! If this whole infatuation business is over by then, I might not even be in touch with him then"
Shaan: Shall we?
Khanak: Ya, sure!
He steps out and shares his license number with the employee at the paging desk.
The gold Merc slides up, soft as silk.
Shaan: Thx! (to the driver, as the driver fishes out what seems like a couple of Rs.100 bills for the turbaned hotel employee that held the door open for her)
Khanak: You will be really late. Maybe you should drop me at the nearest local?
He completely ignores her.
Shaan: Pehle Chembur
Driver: Jee Sir!
Shaan: We should really start working on a rule that we don't fight in the car.
Khanak: I '..
Shaan: I know you will say "I did not start it". You talk very little but you sure know how to push my buttons.
Khanak: And you mine! (smug)
Shaan: And you were upset we have nothing in common? (looks at her)
The driver hits Sirius, it starts playing Classics Forever, "its been a hard day's night"
They ride without saying a word to each other for a few minutes
Shaan: Dad texted me, he wants you to go with me to pick out a color for your car.
Khanak: Oh! I don't need a car. I don't even know how to drive (shocked)
Shaan: We can get to that later. We have him (points with his head)
Khanak: I am really OK. He is yours
Shaan: Nope! He is Akshay and mine. Mom and Bhabhi have their own. They are extremely hard to please. Dad travels a lot, but not as much as Bhayya. Dad's driver Dharam has been with us even before bhayya was born. We've had this guy Pradeep for the past 10 years I believe, points to the guy driving. I love to drive. So when Bhayya's in town I drive.
Khanak: Akshay bhayya ka naam hai? (she says "Akshay" a couple of times) That's a beautiful name"
Shaan: You think so? He doesn't care for it much. You should tell him that sometime.
Khanak: I love that name'' Akshay!
Shaan: He is awesome, you will like him a lot. You need to start talking more.
Khanak is blushing again.
Shaan: To cut a long story short. Pradeep will drive you. Bhayya has already spread the word, we should find another guy soon.
Khanak is terrified for some reason travelling alone with a driver.
Shaan: Don't worry I will ride with you to work for a few days (caring)
Khanak: Nahi main cab le loongi''. Or VT se local. (nervous)
Shaan: What? (his wife in a local?) Nevermind Lets talk about this when we are not in the car. Don't think about it now.
His phone has beeped and rang multiple times, he either disconnects or reads the msgs.
She wonders "Just HOW MANY people know him" she had less than 15 people in her phone book, 12 on last count, including Ram, Ritu and Nivs. She did not have Shantanu.
Shaan: Can you go on Wed? To pick out your ring? I believe he said something called Notandas? (checks his texts) Yep! That's where Mom & Dad's wedding jewelry was made he said.
Khanak: Umm''. I guess (a feeling of being hurtled down a roller coaster takes over)
Shaan: Akshay was in Sao Paolo last week. Dad postponed his trip also, otherwise they could have gotten something from someplace else. (Discreetly referring to better choices). Bhabhi got a De Beers for her anniversary three months ago.
Khanak: Oh!
Shaan: Is there some Gujarati tradition that needs to be looked at? He wants to know.(curious)
Khanak is nervous and jumpy "I haven't spoken with Aada, since evening. Bai ko pata hoga. I have no idea" (OMG! Where is my life headed? She wonders "A Punjabi man? Her husband? I have NO CLUE about any thing Punjabi. Just what is expected of me after the wedding?") "I don't think we exchange rings in my culture"
Shaan: Oh! Really?
Khanak: Bai ko keh doongi. She should know (completely unprepared)
The driver pulls into her complex. The kids playing cricket pause, and stare, and play a guessing game about the make and the model. It's a very modest township, his car creates a "talking point" every time.
He steps off also, escorts her to the lift.
She gets off at 4th, he steps out also, since its only past 10:30 televisions can be heard through closed doors.
He leans on the wall, one foot up, hands in pocket. She thinks "NOW what?"
Shaan: Do you want to go out to dinner over the weekend?
She thinks she must spend as much time with Ritu as she can, talk to her parents to see if there is any hope of ending all this.
Khanak: I want to be with Ritu (tucking her hair back behind her ear staring at his collar)
Shaan (releasing her hair from behind her ear with a swift stroke of his right index finger) You seem extremely nervous and scared Khanak. Why?
Khanak: I DON'T KNOW!(whiny)
Shaan: Just relax and delight in the feeling (caring). We can fight all you want when you get home (he means his house).
Her heart throbs like a captive butterfly's wings held between fingers.
Khanak: I've never even argued with anybody. Its just you.(child like innocence) You bring out stuff in me I didn't know existed (stunning him and shocking herself again).
Shaan: Ditto! (intense)
