In today's (June 16) episode, they showed the 3 rajmatas going to meet Kush & Luv. When they ask them their mother's name, Luv replies Vandevi 🤢, even though in a few days, their real identity will be revealed.

At any rate, one thing they showed - the 3 rajmatas offering them fruits and other sweets, and Kush & Luv declining on the grounds that they didn't have permission from either their Guru or their Mother to accept such offers (which was what then prompted Kaushalya's question re: their mother's identity).

I know I'm playing a broken record here, but in the actual yagna, K-L declined 18000 gold coins, but never any food: in fact, they were told to eat exactly what all the rishis at the yagna were offered - fruits and other stuff, which would keep their throats clear for singing. In this episode, they were offered the same things - fruits, but politely declined it on very flimsy pretexts. In the original, the only time they declined things like the money was precisely because they were explicitly told to, not because in the absence of such permission, they were not allowed to accept anything.

Point here - had K-L told Kaushalya that their mother was Sita, what would have happened? She couldn't have forced them to stay in her palace, since they couldn't do it before Sita could be either re-united w/ Rama, or unless she transferred the kids to their care. So what was the point of showing this? The plots are bizarre, as usual. 😕😕😕

Anyway, episode ended w/ K-L in Rama's court: tomorrow, the singing starts.

From what I can recall, the Adhyatma Ramayan has something like that. Valmiki instructs Lav-Kush to go to Ayodhya and sing the songs of Ramayana. He also told them that if Ram wanted to hear them then they should go and sing for him but that they should not accept any reward.

The boys then roam the streets of Ayodhya singing songs of the Ramayan. Later Ram heard that two boys were singing songs about his life in the city streets and that people everywhere were listening to them. He sent for the boys and asked that they sing at the yagna. Everyone was surprised by the boys' resemblance to Ram, After hearing them sing, Ram ordered Bharat to give the boys thousands of gold coins but they refused and went back to Valmiki's ashram.

Thanks for this info. Was it done in order to make the peeps of Ayodhya regret what they had done to Sita, as depicted in both this, as well as the previous serial?

Chandra, I was surprised when the boys answered Vandevi as their mother's name in answer to Kaushalya's question. I thought they would say Sita and then the matas would know the id of the children. Oh well, we can always expect the unexpected from Sagars!

Nope, not that I can recall. That is likely a Sagar-twist. 🤔

That's what I thought.

I also recall reading somewhere - don't know whether it was Bhavabhuti or somewhere else - K-L were singing outside Rama's palace, and when they saw Rama's reaction to their singing, they somehow realized that he was their father. Knowing this, they were infuriated at the thought of what he had put their mother through (since they observed her misery up close), and stormed out of there. Rama went after them, but they refused to have anything to do w/ him, and went to Sita. She too tried hard to get them to love him, but to no avail. I forgot what happened after that.

Hey guys, posting from the hotel room. Chandra, I think the kids singing in Ayodhya before they sing before Ramji is in Valmiki and Ananda Ramayan. I don't have the books with me to check and I will be back home only on Sunday.

It's definitely not there in Valmiki. In Valmiki, Valmiki takes them to Ayodhya Naimisharanya - that's how they are there, and they do not do any singing except at the yagna.

But do tell us what happens in Ananda Ramayan when you get back Sunday.

Ananda Ramayan is also a possibility. In this version, as far as I remember, the yagya happens before Ram exiles Sita. So Lav-Kush can't possibly sing at any yagya here. The only possiblities left are the streets of Ayodhya and Ram's court.

@Khalrika: while you are checking for this, please check the Rajya Kanda for any mention of Kusa's daughter. I know I read about the swayamvar of his daughter somewhere but for the life of me I can't recall where. I have a feeling it could be the Ananda Ramayan.

Chandraketu, in Valmiki Ramayan Baal Kand verses 4.27 to 4.30, it is written that Luv and Kush sing on the pathways of Ayodhya. Then Ram saw them.
