Its so good to see you post here again. I was wondering where you had been so long 🤗

Welcome back.

Chandraketu - In the Raghuvamsa, I think the Yagna takes place in Ayodhya. From what I understand from the descriptions it looks like Kush and Luv sang in different places in Ayodhya and Ram hears the song when he sits in the court with everyone. Ram was mesmerised by the song when they sang in front of the whole Sabha.

The last two episodes were quite confusing - Hanuman deliberately hides the fact he knows Kush and Luv are his sons from Ram? And why the suspense - it seems that we are kept waiting a lot more than Ram and the others. They had to wait only till the morning of the next day - probably half a day and we have been waiting for 2 days. 😆 😆 😆

Sorry for the delayed response. 😳

It depends on what sort of version you want. I can suggest you some books but can you give me some more details as to what exactly you are looking for and if you would have access to good book stores that have these books?

For example - Ramesh Menon has written a book - The Ramayana which is a Modern Retelling of the classic Valmiki Ramayan. Penguin Classics have published the Valmiki Ramayana which is a classic version of the Valmiki Ramayan.

You can PM me as to what you are looking for. I'll surely suggest you something. 😊

Lalitha, u can get Valmiki Ramayan from Gita Press. It is very good. I bought it from Gita press from right here in the US. Just go to their website. I googled Gita press and got the link. Also, U can get Ramcharitmanas also from the US. Go to Chinmaya Mission US (I went to Chinmaya Mission West as I live on the west coast) and clicked on their link to "Publications" I think that is how the link is named. I think they have an English translation.

You can buy from US. But if you are coming to India, then better buy from India - it will be less costly. Where exactly will you visit in India? See if there is any shop there, which sells the books of Gita press publication.

Thanks; I'll be in Andhra Pradesh, mostly Hyderabad. I'll see if they have any shops which sell Gita Press there.

I have Bhagwat-Gita published by Gita press which was bought more than a decade ago and to be honest it does not give any good explanations but simply the translation of the verses.

When I saw the books written by Srila Prabhupada, I came to know how much you can learn and understand. They are simply a great way to understnd and learn.

Since i do not live in india, so dont know how popular 'Gita press publications' are but could you pls tell me if all the books published by them are as good as published by other publications. I m sorry to ask you this question but as i already said i really dont know that much about them and have not read or even seen any other book published by them apart frm the Bhagwat-Gita.

Also, cud u pls tell me which publication i shud go fr the Valmiki Ramayan (if i decide to get one!).

Bharat9, u r correct. The Gita press is just the Valmiki Ramayan translated verse by verse. I liked it because I wanted to read the Ramayan without too much explanations. I think Chinmaya Mission has the explanation for Ramcharitmanas in English. It is available in CD/tape format too. I think they have the Valmiki Ramayan also. If u go to Amazon.com u get a bunch of resources on Valmiki Ramayan. I haven't checked those out yet.

Yup, Chandra covered it all!😆😉 We haven't really discussed much, but in Akhl's last update thread, I suggested to Chandra that he should be Ram and Dhanya should be Sita in a Ramayan he himself would direct (100% Valmiki), but he doesn't want to be Ram because Ram and Sita get separated too much. Instead, he wants to be Shatrughan since he and Srutakirti (Dhanya) are the only ones together during the vanvaas. What do you think Deepa? Ram or Shatrughan for Chandra?😉
I haven't watched today's epi yet but it doesn't really sound that interesting so I'll wait for the written update.

Thanks Chandra & Lalitha.... Am still not back in full swing. Hope to be back in a couple of weeks.
Am catching up with Ramayan episodes too...
Regarding Chandra's role in his own directed 100% VR, he can be Shatrughan but only thing he'll not be seen or talked about much. But of course he can be seen with his Dhanya onscreen and offscreen then.. 😆😆😆

Penguin Classics - Valmiki Ramayan - This book is pretty good.
If you want a modern retelling of the Valmiki Ramayan, then you can go for Ramesh Menon's
'The Ramayana'.
But this book is not a classic representation - it is a modern retelling. The style of writing is very much modern but the story is pretty much authentic.

I haven't seen Gita Press Publications as yet.

If you have a Ramakrishna Mission bookstore near your place (I'm not sure if these publications are available in foreign countries), you can check out their publications. They might have some good books. I'm not sure if there is one nearby your place.

There are some resources online as well. Ralph T. Griffith's translations are very good. I really enjoyed reading them. There are a couple of sites that have translated Valmiki Ramayan in prose format too.
