My son has died because of Raam's sin, there is no doubt about it. Now either make him alive, or I will leave my body here at your gate with my wife. And then you will be responsible for Brahm Hatyaa (killing of a Braahman). When any Raajaa does some kind of sin, then only the public dies untimely. It is only because of Raaja's sin that this boy has died. Because Raam became Raajaa of Ikshwaaku Vansh, that is why this kingdom is without its master." That Braahaman was defaming and blaming Raam for his son's death and crying continuously.

I did not understand one thing here...which kingdom lost its master bcoz Ram became Raja of Ikshwakuvansh? Also does it mention of any particular sin in this context that caused the untimely death of the young boy? How does Ram come to know that Shambuka is the reason for the calamity?
Sorry I did not even care to see if these questions are already answered in the previous pages. Am in a hangover😉, after coming back from the library......

I did not understand that too and I read and re-read that portion many times. Ram comes to know of Shambuka because Narad tells him. Where does Narad come all of a sudden? Ram Jaane! Most of the "extra" stories in the Uttarkhand are related to the main story of Ram and Sita. This Sambuka story and there is another story about a dog which comes for justice have no relation to the main story. All of a sudden they crop up in the middle of Uttarkhand. It is strange because at one point there this story of what happens to Satrughan and Lavana and then this story of Sambuka is placed there like out of the blue. There is no connection whatsoever to the main story and this Sambuka story.

I've been researching and there are experts who believe (from their study of meter, narrative style and other things) that many parts of Uttarkhand (some believe the whole Uttarkhand) was a later product and not written by Valmiki at all.

Good luck with your hangover. I guess u had Vali's Pinot Noir (wine with banana) at the library. Sorry, couldn't resist. 😆Hey, I beat Chandra in the wisecrack department. 😆

Congratulations: you da MAN!!! 😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣

I too didn't get what exactly the Brahman father in question was saying - I'm assuming that he didn't know about Shambuka, and was just assuming that the only reason his son could be dead was that Rama had sinned. Also, when Narad does come in and talk to Rama, he makes some bizarre references about how a society that lives by agriculture is spreading adharma - this I absolutely didn't get. The study that Rajnish referred - particularly the part where Valmiki himself was of a low origin - is one I had read before, which is why I too think this particular story was not in the original. Same thing about the dog that walked into Rama's court and narrated his story - one which was posted on this forum a while back.

I bet you did................🤣
Oh, so its Narad who informs Ramji. But then I did not get it about why agriculture was brought in? And it spreads Adharma? Never heard of that.....
Looks like some of these are later additions....

Chandra - I would like to agree with you on one point.... After knowing the actual story as it happened, it is a bit difficult to accept what is being portrayed in the serial in the context of Sita's exile.....
Not that I do not like what is being portrayed, but can't help comparing it with the original.😕

I positively hate what is being portrayed in the serial. Had they shown the original Valmiki, it wouldn't have looked so bad.

Another thing occured to me - time management. It's been argued that they are on a budget, and need to complete the serial quickly, which is why we didn't see family scenes, etc. But they've already wasted a lot of time on peripheral issues - Karkati, Ahiravan (3 weeks!!!), the fiasco with the grahas, Kumbhakarna falling asleep in battle, et al. You'd think they could have planned the whole plot in advance, so that it's within budget and time, but captures all the important events?
