I think it wud have been better if Ramji did do the pareeksha at Ayodhya, it wud make more sense since the washerman of Ayodhya was the one who put a mar on Sita maya's character.
Second to answer ur question...the REAL reason the Agni Pareeksha was done was to bring back the REAL Sita mata from under the protection of Agni Dev!!!! To further explain this confusion, b4 Sita haraan, Ramji told Sita maya that it was bout time for Ravan to send Mareech to come disguised as a golden deer and that Sita maya wud be kidnapped from that maya created by Ravan himself!!!! So Sita maya calls upon Agni Dev, & she is under the care and protection of Agni Dev, while it is Chaaya Sita (Sita's shadow) that is held captive by Ravan!!!!!
Now for it to make further sense, When Ravan had raped Nal-Kuber's wife, the son of Kuber (who is also the half-brother of Ravan), Nal-Kuber cursed Ravan that whenever he wud touch a woman against her will or force her in any matter, Ravan's head wud turn into ashes right then and there!!!!!
So you see if it was actually Sita maya, then Ravan wud have burst into ashes right then and there, but he touched a Shadow of Sita maya, so for this purpose Ramji tells Chaya Sita to call upon Agni dev to return his beloved Sita from Agni Dev back to HIM (Ramji)!!!!
Hope this helped you out dear!!!

This topic has been debated for ages and ages.
First of all, Sri Ram did not ask Sita to do the Agni Pravesha. He told Sita that he had fought Ravan to regain his honour and to punish Ravan for his misdeed and also asked her how can he accpet a woman who has left her husband's house and lived in another man's palace for such a long time. Hearing these words Sita asked Lakshman to build a pyre and entered it praying to the God of Fire that she should be unharmed if she was pure in thoughts and deeds.
Bringing Sita back without a word and then testing her in Ayodhya would look like Ram had accepted her and then tested her after his people doubted her chastity.
According to the Maya Sita version, I agree with Suniti.
And the curse of Nal Kuber - He cursed Ravan the if he ever forces himself on another woman without her consent his head will burst into pieces. Hence, Ravan held his distance from Sita and was constantly trying to convince her to marry him.
The Ayodhya people knew about Sita's Agni Pravesha and still doubted her. The rumours and thinking of the rural and illeterate people of that time soon forgot that she had given proof of her chastity and only spoke of her living in another man's home. In Lanka, people saw very well how pure and devoted Sita was to have brought death and destruction to the mighty Ravan. In spite of all the torments, she remained true to her husband. And of course, they must have heard (if not seen) the Agni Pariksha.

It did and when it did so, the 9 extra heads were destroyed and so did his 18 arms. But then what about his 10th head and the last pair of arms. They were also hit but were not destroyed! why?
hope i havnt made my question very confusing. (although it sounds a bit!)

Good question!!! Good thinking!
In the Rama Charita Manasa, all the arrows hit Ravan at the same time and Ravan's 10 heads, 20 arms and the amrit stored in his navel was destroyed simultaneously.
But here, I think they spare a head and a couple of arms (don't ask why - probably wanted Ravan to look whole) so that Lakshman can get some knowledge from Ravan. 😆
Just kidding - no offence meant.

Sita's Agni Pravesha was destined for to purposes first to show her Greatness n power of her purity n second was to make Lord Ram aware that He is none but Supreme Narayana n SitaMa is His eternal soulmate. As per Valmiki Ramayn very few people knew abt the reality that he is Supreme Narayana. When Sita entered Agni all Gods including Brahma appeared to there n told Tam n whole world that Lord Ram is none but Supreme Him n Sita is her eternal soulmate

many people doubted her even in Lanka too that is clear from the verses of Valmiki Ramayan. Asking her to give proof be it anywhere Lanka or Ayodhya was most painful thing for Lord Ram. If he wud have asked her to give proof in Ayodhya his ownland that wud have been more harsh n insulting for both. I agree with Vibhishana that bringing Sita back without a word and then testing her in Ayodhya would look like Ram had accepted her and then tested her after his people doubted her chastity.

Yeup well said Vibhishna and Purvi...Ramji never tests Sitaji for proof...but there are so many reasons that have occurred for the agni pareeksha...and yet even today...many ppl misuse the agni pareeksha terminology towards wut they perceive it as and not wut it really was meant for!!!!!

I was thinking about this. You know, Ramji took the blame on himself with the agni pariksha. I am sure if Ramji had not asked for the agni pariksha tongues would have wagged (it would not have mattered that Sita was pure) and people would have said all kinds of rotten things about Sita. This sort of nonsense would have happened even now in the 21st century. Without the agni pariksha, many people even today would have said, "you know, who knows what "really" happened in the Ashoka Vatika with Ravan."
Poor Sita! By asking her to undergo agni pariksha Sita was proven to be pure and now it is Ramji that people are blaming for the agni pariksha. The focus shifted to Ramji with everyone going "how can he do that to her?"

This is strictly my opinion and I am no expert. It seems to me that Ramji shifted the focus of blame, gossip, and wrong judgments by people from Sita to himself to spare Sita of any more humiliation. I think that is the greatness of Ramji. It may seem harsh if you look only at the agni pariksha but if you see the big picture I see the greatness of Ramji. What do you guys think? Any one else feel the same way or am I way off base?

Well, yeah, it could be that they (sagars????? or who???) wanted Ravan as a whole so that he could speak and give some knowledge to Laxman ji. But still, what happend to those '3' arrows that were supposed to be for his last (10th) head, and the two arms??😕
In the serial, it can be seen that all the arrows hit all the arms and heads. so does that mean the last 3 arrows caused some sort of disturbance to his 10th head and last pair of arm, so they got weaken....or.....God, its so confusing!
Is it true that there were 31 arrows that hit Ravan and caused his death??

Lets assume, that all the arrows hit all the heads, arms and amrit kund simultaneously, so in that case how was he able to speak. Mayb coz of his powers he could speak even when his head was not joined to his body!!! could that be a fact??

One more question:

When Ravan was gifted 10 heads (well, 9 extra heads) by Lord Shiva, at that time did he had the amrit kund in his navel already that allowed him to cut his head again and again??

Now that you describe it that way, it very much makes sense. Just that the two things I've always had (and probably always will have) trouble with - one is the physical torture that one would have to go through walking barefoot through the fire (even assuming that Agni-dev protected her), and the other is the implication that even if Ravan (hypothetically) did do anything to her (like, say, Vedavati), that it's she, who would then be considered defiled. C Rajagopalacharya discusses this well in his abridged version of the Ramayan. Which is why I said earlier that I understand why Rama did this, but nonetheless, I do disagree with him, without blaming him for anything that happened.

For the record, I don't consider either Vedavati or Rambha to have been defiled - the only one in my book who was defiled was Ravan himself.
