We would love to learn a logical and a mytological explanation together.
Knowing the scientific explanations that back up the myths will strengthen a person's faith.

Yep, what Vibs said😃

Rajnish

Congrats on your 1665th post!!! Never thought I'd see this glorious day😉

There is always a thought that the Agnipariksha at the end of the war was conducted to get back the real Sita from Agnidev and that no other male could touch Sita due to her "Satitva". Taking this into consideration, why was the demon Viraadha not hurt by Sita's Satitva? It is said that he lifted Sita with his hands.
Based on the above assumption, if Ravana would have been hurt trying to touch Sita, then Viraadha too should have been hurt right? Is this justified anywhere?
And Rajnish - suddenly you have the whole team turning towards you.......👍🏼 Ha ha, way to go buddy....

This is a good observation Chen2Chic.👏 I don't know the correct answer, but I have a theory. The Chaya (Maya) Sita concept is written in Ramcharitmanas, but not in Valmiki Ramayana. In Valmiki Ramayana, the real Sita was abducted by Ravan, not her Chaya. I am not sure, but I think the Viraadha story may be in Valmiki Ramayana, and not Ramcharitmanas. I'm not sure, as I have not read Ramcharitmanas.
I don't know any other explanation for that, but it is a good observation.

I don't know any other explanation for that, but it is a good observation.

The staunch devotees of Sita-Rama have established the fact that Ma Sita was not touchable, such legends are not to be found in Valmiki Ramayana.
Its Kamban Ramayana that describes Ravan cleaving the earth to lift Ma Sita, maybe Kamban couldn't imagine Ravan taking a hold of Sita since Kamban was a great devotee of Sita-Rama same goes to Tulsidas who couldn't agree that the one who was abducted was 'real' Sita.
Nothing happens by mere touching Sita nor her 'pativratya' is defiled. Because its not Sita's fault either in Viraadh's incident and in her abduction where she was forcefully carried away from her hut. May be its for the devotees this act was intolerable and the later versions of Ramayana and the other purans(Skanda puran,Vishnu puran, Padma puran etc) include such legends.
Hatred towards Ravan too was one of the reason.

When Ravan abducts her, with his left hand he takes a hold of her nape(back of the neck) and with his right hand he holds Sita's thighs so many commentators say that Sita must have fainted for a short while(because its easier that way to lift somebody) Sita too mentions that when Ravan held her she was "Vivashatvam" which has two meanings 1) helpless and 2) not in senses/temporary swoon. This word, she repeats before Hanuman and also tells Ram before 'agni-pariksha'.

In Valmiki Ramayana its not really an 'agnipariksha' Ma Sita doesn't enter the pyre to prove her chastity its because she was angry at Ram's accusations also Sita doesn't enter pyre vouching for her chastity so it was agnipravesha.
In Ramcharitmanas we can find that Sita takes an oath saying Mann kram vachan punIta.......and then enters the pyre.

thanks ananya for explaining it so elaborately👏
I read one more reason why viraadh took sita away from Ram. The reason is Ram has never killed any Rakshas in the presence of Sita - Subaahu, Taadakaa, Viraadh, Khar, Dooshan, Mareech, or anyone including Ravan... for She is the benevolent one to all sinners and pardons them if surrendered in faith at Her feet, being the incarnation of Lakshmi.
