Agreed. However, while deviations are deviations, somehow, the 2 incidents you mention aren't as story altering as the one I cited about Duryodhan cremating Karna (and there are far more throughout the MBH). You might have picked a more stark example in Kumbhakarna falling asleep in battle, which was funny, yet story altering (unless any of the other translations have that), or Kaushalya, Sumitra & Urmila reconciling with Kaikeyi, or Shurpanakhas prominence in the Yudhya-kand.
At any rate, your original point is well taken.
I feel that Sita slapping the rakshasi is pretty big and outrageous. Sita was a Mahasati who had control over her feelings and mind. She did not go slapping people like a common woman. I found this deviation from her characterization pretty unacceptable, but the past is the past, and the Sagars have improved with her characterization now so it's okay.
BRC's Mahabharat may not have been perfect, but then, no serial is, even if it is made by the Sagars. All mythologicals deviate from the original story at some points to please the public. BRC's MB may not have been perfect, and I agree that it did make up some stories, but it is the best Mahabharat Serial directed up to date, and it received a lot of public praise. Maybe in the future, some one may make a better one, but so far, BRC's is the best, and I personally felt it correctly captured the soul of the Great Mahabharat Epic.
