I'm not a scholar either. My question was a 'what if' question, wondering aloud whether Dasharath could have done what Rama did and saved himself a lot of grief. But I think I may have derailed this topic a bit, so I'll let it get back to the question of what if Dasharath had never been cursed...

I know. None of us are scholars here. I also understand ur questions. Only, I did not know how to answer them. 😃 I was searching the web for some illumination 😉 on the subject when I came across these articles. I found them interesting and wanted to share it. You can agree or not agree with the analysis of the author but the articles are interesting, if you have the time to read them.

Chandra, here is a link. I am posting it here again. I found these articles archived at chennaionline.com. All aspects of Ramayan are discussed. The main page is here:

The author of these articles discusses the validity of the promise given to Kaikeyee's father. I found it very a interesting read. Here is the link to that.

I am not a scholar so I cannot answer your question. I hope the links I have provided will answer the question for you. I hope it does

Thanks Mandodari for sharing these articles.😊 I'll definitely take a look at these when I find the time.
Just an offhand question: Is Mandodari your favorite character in the Ramayan? In the Rakshaskul Family, she's my fav, and then Sulochana. They both were such brave women in their own ways, and I really admire them for their courage and patience.

Oh, thanks for the explanation. It make sense now.
I think Dasharath did not split his kingdom, because he had four sons who were not the same age. Shri Ram was clearly the eldest. But Rama had twin sons, and though Kush was called the eldest, his brother Luv was still his twin, and not much younger. It would not have been fair to give the whole kingdom to Kush only, but in Dasharath's case, all of his sons were born days apart, so it was not seen as unfair to give the kingdom to Shri Ram.
And maybe Dasharath was planning to conquer new kingdoms for his other sons, but after the coronation of Shri Rama, which did not happen according to his plans. King Dasharath probably would have conquered a kingdom for Bharat, then Lakshman, and then Shatrughan, had the whole episode with Manthara and Kaikeyi not happened, and Shri Ram crowned according to plan.

oh i thought all the ranis became pregnant almost the same day coz they ate the payas at the same time...there was only a few minutes difference between Ram and Bharat....coz Manthara was eagarly waiting for Bharat's birth and she wanted him to born before Kaushalya's son..

If Vishnu was not cursed to be born on Earth, will he/won't he be born to kill Ravan? If i remember, all events had a reason behind them that relates to a curse or a boon!

IF dashrath had not killed shravan kumar then too kaikeye wud hv asked for her 2 vardaans as dashrath promised kaikeye to give her 2 boons ,
if dashrath wud not hv been cursed by shravans parents then he might hv not died when RAMJI went for exile ,may b dashrath wud hv spent his 14 yrs lamenting for RAM,SITA & LAKSHMAN !!!! just like KAUSHLAYA MATA & SUMITRA MATA !!!!!

I'm not sure how to answer this question...but i think that whatever is stored in one's destiny it is meant to be......regardless of choices....Like they say....God himself can't change our destiny, b/c HE has already pre-planned everything for us.....our part is to basically play it safe!!!! If we make choices without thinking it thru or wut not...then we have to suffer consequences.....

I dont know...i'm not sure, but i think at this point i sound like i'm taling jibberish😆
This is my take...but like every1 else said that wutever is meant to be will happen either way!!!!!!
