Shyamala,
I started watching Ramayana with the first episode, wasn't convinced too much, and let it go. But, started again after the adult Rama came in, and I must say, am liking it quite a bit. The actors that are chosen for this version are all very well suited. Especially, Rama, the actor is so regal, aristocratic, and also looks benevolent at the same time, I would say he is the best suited for this role among all that I have seen. Arun Govil in Ramanand Sagar's version was OK, but not the best. As far as acting goes, the talent f the lady playing Sita's role is yet to be seen. She has hardly said much so far. Today, Bharat's emotions were not very clear, I thought. He seemed upset a few times which I don't think is what he intended to portray.

As far as the story goes, there are a few surprises for me, at least. I have seen quite a few versions, so far, but in this there are certain incidents that I was not aware of happening. The writers must have done their due diligence, of course, as they cannot afford to mess with this story as they do with others. So, I am not doubting them. One of them is the second marriage of Rama, because the actual marriage was not performed at the auspiscious time and the other was what was shown today, the competition between the brothers to find the single faced rudraksha. I was not aware of these stories before. It could be that my exposure to what I know is not enough. One other aspect is the role increase of Mathara. I only knew that she was the instigator to kaikeyi about the Vanavas, but was not aware that she was that way throughout.

The Lankeswaran play, that you cite, is very interesting, and makes you think about the possibility of it happening. It is of course, tangential to what is believed as Ravana's reason to kidnap Sita, but this could very well have been the reason. Very intruiging, indeed.

I hope that the interest can be retained by the quality of acting, for I would love to follow it through all the way.

Dear Jyothi,

I am SO glad that you found time to join me here, and also that we are on the same page for almost everything. We do not need to defend any Arjun here, but we will have a lot of fun as the tale progresses. So you MUST stay the course with me, don't even think of leaving halfway!

I was also very pleasantly surprised to get as many as 336 viewings till now is what appears to be a relatively small and of course very new forum, and even more so by some of the detailed responses from readers other than my old friends. That makes me feel less of an intruder!

My Dear Shyamala,

Finally read your piece and in agreement about being puzzled by-
1. The second marriage proposal for Sri Ram, that too forwarded by Kaikayi.
2. The competition between Bharata and Sri Ram - had not heard of it before- the one mukhi rudraksha- is that grown on any special tree- what is the significance of it- is it hard to find- all unexplained.
3. Yes, i was also taken aback by Sita's washing of Ram's feet, none of the other sisters are shown doing the same, nor any of the Queen mothers 😕
On the latest episode which we finally caught up on, I was quizzed at home on the role of the Leper and what is Leprosy, and whether it still exists today, whether the actor in that role is real or just made to dress like that etc...etc...
As always enjoyed your post and I do like watching Ramayan. Still have to look at Devon ke Dev, Mahadev. Hope your wrist is getting better! Lovely to read ur post ⭐️😃😊

My dear Abhi,

I am so glad that you have also joined me here. We will now make this journey together. The transformatiom of Kaikeyi was too abrupt, but never mind, this Rama and Lakshmana are enough to keep me glued to the TV!

Take care, my dear. My wrist behaves when I wear the pad, and acts up again as soon as I take it off!

My dear Nneeiill (could I perhaps have your real name, unless you prefer not?),

Thank you so much for the appreciative comments. I also greatly enjoyed all the responses, especially the very detailed one from Arti, and I hope to continue these educative exchanges as we travel along with the Ramayana.
