Anjali and Kapil stranded mid-sea

The unit of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat had to shoot a boat sequence as part of a honeymoon sequence. It was earlier planned to shoot on shore only and not venture into the deep waters. But director Pawan Kumar and producer took a last minute call and decided to venture deep into the sea. All went well until the boat's engine suddenly stopped and would not start however hard the driver tried. As a result the entire unit was stuck in the middle of nowhere and panicked when the boat started rocking because of the rough weather. They soon started making a few emergency calls. And after much panic and chaos the boat re-started much to everyone's relief!

The lead actor Kapil Nirmal reminisces, "We were shooting in the middle of a sea and suddenly the engine broke off and all attempts to re-start went in vain. Anjali Abrol, the assistant director and me were stranded in the middle of nowhere for around 45 minutes. Anjali was a bit panicky but later we started enjoying as the cool breeze was flowing. But finally the engine started and we all returned to the shore safely."

So all's well that ends well.

'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' unit all at sea!

by Vidhya Krishnan

Dec 09, 2008, Bangalore

Shows like 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' need a hook to pull viewers in, so the producer and the director decided to shoot a 'honeymoon boat sequence' for the show. The idea sounded exciting to the cast and crew but the 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' unit wound up having a very different experience.

The unit had earlier planned to shoot on the shore only and not venture into the sea. But director Pawan Kumar and the producer took a last-minute call to set sail on a boat. All was fine until the boat stopped in the middle of the sea and the driver could not get it moving. The unit was stuck and they began to panic as the boat tossed and shook because of the rough sea. A few emergency calls were made and after much confusion, they managed to get the boat moving. What a relief it must have been to the crew!

The 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' unit had a close shave and luckily they made it safe and sound. We sure hope those TRPs are worth it!

Meet the small screen Jodhaa!

Rajkumari Bhoomi of Raja ki Aayegi Baraat played by Kanika Maheshwari recently shot for a special sequence where she got to wear some of the costumes worn by Aishwarya Rai in the Bollywood Jodhaa Akbar. These costumes were specially designed by famous designer Neeta Lulla.
"I shot for two wedding sequences with these costumes - one for my marriage and another when Yudhistir was getting married," says Kanika. Aishwarya had worn these costumes for two song sequences in the movie.
However carrying such a heavy out fit was not easy for Kanika. She says she took about 2 hours to get ready.

"It had heavy work and was heavy to wear too. Carrying such costumes becomes a difficult task as you have to take special care of them as they are expensive too. Costumes with make-up and hair were hard to handle," sighs Kanika.

Kanika has seen Jodhaa Akbar and she feels it's a great and beautiful movie. Impressed by Jodha's character, she says "I would love to play a remarkable character like hers," smiles the star.

Pick Of The Week: 8th -13th Dec 08

From the happenings in serials, we pick the Top 3 popular ones..And we promise to keep a close eye on the

Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat:

Scene of the Week: The final scene of the week where Yudi takes Rani for a boat ride. First they are standing together enjoying the cool moonlight and the night air. Then Yudi picks his wife up in his arms and carries her onto the boat, which is all decked up with hanging lanterns, surrounded by water which has reflections of the lights overhead. This is followed by the scene which showed close moments between the couple which can be termed 'Simply Beautiful'..

Style Icon of the Week: Yudi and Rani. Rani dressed in a hot pink sari with gold border and matching choli with gold jewelry, exuded grace and elegance in this outfit. She was sweet and glamorous all rolled in one. Yudi wears a classic white dress shirt, with the top buttons undone. One end of the shirt untucked with a stylish pair of khakis and brown leather belt. He looks every inch the prince dressed for leisure. Together they made an awesome sartorial statement.

Dialogue of the Week: The scene next to the lake at night when Rani finds out that Yudishter is standing there. She cries to him and asks "Aap humse Naraaz hain to hume saja deejiye magar hume chod kar mat jaaye.Hum Aapke Bina Ji Nahin Saktein"to which Yudi replies back, "Hum aap ko chod ke kahaan jayenge? Aap mere sanson mein, dil mein, atma mein bas gaye hain."-This is an eloquent exchange between the two because it conveys just how close they have always been to one another and more so since marriage. The language of soulmates.

Blooper of the Week: When Yudishter and Rani get on the boat, the camera briefly shows that the boat is painted with the words "Spirit of Mumbai" but weren't Yudi and Rani supposed to be in Rajasthan for their honeymoon?? But this little detail was evidently seen.

Kanica gets down and dirty in 'Raja Ki Aayegi Barat'!

by Vidhya Krishnan

Dec 22, 2008, Bangalore

Acting is proving to be tough going for Kanica Maheshwari, who plays the character Rajkumari Bhoomi in 'Raja Ki Aayegi Barat' on Star Plus.

Kanica has been facing some difficult demands from her character. The latest storyline is in a village where she has to enact scenes like falling into a khichad and milking a cow. We spoke to her and got her views about the latest challenges.

"We have some sequences that require me to undergo hardships." said Kanica. "We have shifted our shooting spot to a village where I need to shoot for scenes like being in middle of five to six cows, milking the cow and picking up cow dung. In fact, after finishing my shots, I used to go home and puke. I was really scared initially and thought, I would get kicked by these cows while milking but luckily, I was not hurt. I had to also do 'chakki pisso', an old ritual and scenes where atta and haldi covered me completely from head to toe. It got really messy and itchy most of the time."

She continued: "These scenes are completely different from wearing rich costumes and acting. But everyone around me had a good time laughing and I am glad that I was able to do that. My character Bhoomi and I are not different but I just wish that these tracks in the story get over as soon as possible.

"It was really hard and I used to get irritated while doing those scenes but that irritation was required in the scenes which came out naturally for me," added Kanica. "I have put in a lot of effort for this and in return, I just want the audience to enjoy it. At the moment, I just need some appreciation and nothing else. I hope the pain taken is worth it."

Well done Kanica, acting is not all peaches and cream, you know!

Kanika's hair raising tale
23 Dec, 2008 06:00 am ISTlReena Thapar Kapoor/INDIATIMES MOVIES

She was roped in to play a princess in a prime time show. She enjoyed the look of her character clad in a designer sari. And the intricate jewelry just added loads of class to the royal look in the show Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat . Though Kanika plays the second lead in the show, her role is very defined.

But like most tracks in other shows, hers too went in for a change. "Change is understatement," she laughs. From the time Kanika Maheshwari's track in the show has taken the opposite route she has been having sleepless nights.

"From palace, my role in the show has landed to the slums. Now I'm no longer the princess, living in the palace. According to the script of the show, I'm now picking up cow dung, milking the cows, and doing all sorts of terrible stuff," she says. Obviously, Kanika isn't too happy with this state.

"Only I know how I'm shooting in this condition." But the worst happened a few days ago when Kanika was sitting on a chair waiting for her shot. "I was talking to my friend on the phone in between shots. Since there was a long break my conversation went on for too long. Suddenly, I realized that something strange was happening on my head. When I turned around I saw a cow licking my hair (tied in a bun). It was the most sickening thing I'd ever witnessed. I called for a pack up because I needed to wash my hair urgently." Despite all that there has been no improvement in Kanika's state. "I thought that after that fiasco, the unit members will make life a bit simple for me by choosing a better location but looks like I was asking for too much," she sighs.
