This Chapter narrates the glory of a place called Siddhāśrama.
Siddhāśrama is the place where Vāmana pushed the emperor Bali to the netherworlds. Even Rāma killed Subāhu and drove away Mārīca from this place. In course of time, it became a place of tapas or austerities for sages like Kaśyapa and Viśvāmitra who established their hermitages here. It has been identified with the modern town Buxar in Uttar Pradesh.
Siddhāśrama is considered as the base of spiritual consciousness, heart of divinity and the mortification land of great Rishies. Siddhāśramais equally scarce to human beings and all the visible and invisible creatures. Thus, the Siddhāśrama is assumed as a very scarce divine place.
Siddhāśrama is a secret and mystical land deep in theHimalayas, where great siddha yogis, sadhus, and sages live. Siddhāśrama is theashram by our ancestors, saints, sages & Yogis of high order. It is referred to in many Indian epics, the Veda, Upanishads and Puranas including the Rigveda, the oldest scripture of human civilization. This aashram lies near the Mansarovar lake and the Kailash.
By seeing this place, one attains salokya liberation, bytouching it one attains samipya liberation. By bathing here, one attains sarupya liberation, and by residing here, one attains sayujya liberation.
In total - “There are five kinds of liberation: sālokya,sāmīpya, sārūpya, sārṣṭi and sāyujya.
Sālokya means that after material liberation one is promotedto the planet where the Supreme Personality of Godhead resides, sāmīpya meansremaining an associate of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, sārūpya means attaining a four-handed form exactly like that of the Lord., sārṣṭi means attaining opulences like those of the Supreme Lord, and sāyujya means merging into the Brahman effulgence of the Lord.
When Sri Radha, who was heart-broken in separation from LordKrishna, heard from Candranana’s mouth the glory of this place, She decided tobath in this holy place. Leaving the forest of Kadalivana on the surya-parvaday in the month of Madhava (April-May), She began her pilgrimage to Siddhāśrama.
Now that the 100 years of the curse of Sridama’s has passed, saintly Sri Radha, riding on a palanquin, accompanied by one hundred groups ofgopis and all the gopas, went to the holy Siddhāśrama, which is situated in the country of Anarta.
At the same time the Lord also accompanied by His sixteen thousand Queens and all His relatives in the Yadava dynasty, went on a pilgrimage to Siddhāśrama.
Sri Radha along with her group of gopis was bathing in the holy water. The men of Dwaraka, wishing to bathe here, were being beaten bysticks by the gopas. At that instance, the Queens of the Lord entered the place. The Queens asked, “Who is thisgirl bathing here? The best of the Yadava warriors are terrified of Her. Who is Her beloved? What is Her name? Where does She live? O Lord, you know everything. Please tell us.”
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said, “She is named Radha. She is the daughter of Kirti and Vrsabhanu. She is the queen of Vraja and the queen of all the gopis. She is very exalted. I am Her beloved.”
After hearing the Lord’s words, Satyabhama, who proudly thought herself to be the Queen whose youthful beauty was the greatest, spoke thus.
“Why is Radha considered so beautiful? Am I not beautiful?Beauty and Virtue worship me.” She went of talking about her glories and why the Lord did many activities for her and on her request. She also pulled in Rukmini and glorified her power. At her words all the Queens became filled with pride. Proud of their fortune, virtues, wealth, and beauty, they spoke to the humble Lord.
The queens said, “From Your own mouth we have heard of Sri Radha. You said that You love her eternally and She loves You eternally. We wish to see her, Your beloved, who lives in Vraja, and who is unhappy because She is separated from you.”
Saying, “so be it”, the Lord taking the queens with him went to see Sri Radha. When they saw Her from afar, the thousands of Queens, overcome by the sight of Her beauty, suddenly fainted. As the sun makes the many stars insignificant, Sri Radha’s beauty made the queen’s beauty seem insignificant. Their own pride crushed, they said among themselves, “Such wonderful beauty has no equal. In the three worlds, the likes of it is has never been seen nor heard of before.” They all then approached the gopis and Sri Radha and their eyes embraced.
With folded hands, Sri Radha circumambulated Sri Krishna. Then, tears of bliss fell from her Lotus eyes.
Smiling Sri Radha said, “Now, my life is a success. Now, my austerities are a success. O Krishna, now that you have come, my practice of religion is a success and my bathing at this holy place is a success.”
She went on praising the Lord for a while. As she was speaking these words, one of the gopis informed her of the queens’ presence. She respectfully glanced at all the queens and offered them all respect. Sri Radha, filled with love and joy, embraced them in Her arms.
She said, “As there is but one moon but the cakora birds are many, and as there is but one sun but the eyes are many, there is but one Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishnachandra, but we devotees, O My Sisters, are many.”
Hearing the glory of Sri Krishna, Rukmini, spoke to the Lotus-eyed Radha. Sri Rukmini said, “O Radha, You are fortunate. Krishna is conquered by Your Love. The three world glorifies Krishna, but He glorifies You. We have heard of your great love for Lord Krishna. We have come here to honor you and take You with us.”
Queen Rukmini then brought Sri Radha to her own palanquin and made her comfortable. That night, Rukmini, accompanied by her co-wives, worshipped Sri Radha.
The Queen then worshipped all the other gopis and happily returned to their own palanquins. Seeing that Lord Krishna was still awake, Rukmini went to His side and asked him, “why You did not sleep?”
The Lord then said, “O girl with beautiful eyes, Radha was very pleased with the respectful welcome that you gave her. She always drinks milk before she goes to sleep. O noble-hearted Queen, for that reason she has not gone to sleep yet. Because She cannot sleep, I cannot sleep.”
After hearing these words, Rukmini, went to Sri Radha and gave her a cup of milk. Rukmini affectionately gave Sri Radha a golden cup filled with hot milk sweetened with sugar. After that, approaching Lord Krishna, she told him what she has done. Then she worshipped the Lord’s Feet. As she was about to massage them she noticed that there were many blisters on the soles of the Lord’s lotus feet. She was very surprised. She asked the Lord, “how did you get these blisters? I cannot understand the reason.”
The Lord, wishing to show them the depth of Sri Radha’s love, spoke to Rukmini. He said, “Day and Night, my Lotus feet stay in Radha’s lotus heart. Bound by the ropes of love and devotion, they cannot leave for a moment, or even a fraction of a moment. When Sri Radha drank that hot milk, My Lotus Feet in Her heart became burned and that is why they are now covered with blisters. You offered her milk that was very hot, my Queen.”
When the Queens heard this, they became filled with wonder. Sri Radha’s love for Lord Krishna has no equal in the world. It is the purest form of Love.
