Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor faced a disturbing security lapse during her performance at the MeGong Festival in Meghalaya on Sunday night. A viral video shows an unidentified man running onto the stage and groping her while she was singing, leaving audiences stunned and sparking immediate outrage online.

In the circulating clips, Kanika appears fully immersed in her set when a man suddenly climbs onto the stage and grabs her, attempting to lift her. The singer pulls back instantly, shock and fear clearly visible on her face. Despite the frightening intrusion, she manages to stay composed and continues performing for a few seconds as her team reacts.

Security personnel step in quickly, tackling the man and dragging him off the stage. Viewers praised their swift response, but many are now questioning how an intruder managed to reach the centre of the stage during a high-profile event. As of now, there is no confirmation on whether a police complaint has been filed. Fans and fellow artists have taken to social media, demanding strict action and stronger safety measures for performers.

The incident comes at a time when Kanika Kapoor has been speaking openly about challenges faced by playback singers in India. Just days earlier, she shared concerns about financial exploitation in the industry during a conversation with Uorfi Javed. Kanika said that singers often receive shockingly low payments despite delivering hit songs.

“Singers don’t really get paid. I can show you all the contracts — we get ?101,” she said. Kanika added that even some of the country’s most respected voices do not receive proper royalties or publishing rights. According to her, live shows remain the only reliable source of income. “As long as your voice works and you can perform, you’ll earn. If something happens tomorrow, there is no pension plan for singers.”

Her remarks reignited the debate around the financial and contractual difficulties faced by playback artists.

Kanika Kapoor, known for chartbusters like Baby Doll, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, and Lovely, has often used her platform to highlight exploitation and structural issues in the music industry. The MeGong Festival incident has renewed conversations about performer safety, with many urging event organisers to reassess their security protocols urgently.
