Mohabbatein
Part 18: Kiska Rasta Dekhe..Ae Dil Ae Saudayee...
xxx
Back inside - 10 minutes later: The party was on in full swing. There were friends, and friends like family, neighbours, colleagues, business partners and employees. All excited and happily socializing but they were all equally curious as well. Curious to know the reason behind the sudden party. It certainly wasn't like the Khans do something like this on such short notice. Asad avoided eye contact, kept his head bowed, constantly praying, hoping all the girls and aunties would stop ogling him, stop staring at him so longingly so lustfully, for God's sake he didn't stare at Zoya the way they stared at him. They stared at him with calculating looks, all the while plotting how to snatch him up for a daughter, a niece or for themselves. He also hoped to hide his face so as to avoid socializing with anyone in the party. Whilst trying to hide he didn't even realize when he came up to Aahil and Aisha who seemed to be quite caught up in what seemed like a rather intimate moment. Asad of course was oblivious to anything and everything that had to do with love so he didn't notice it and intruded in. Much to Aahil and Aisha's relief. Another second and god knows what would've happened.
Aahil - (forcing a smile, his cheeks flushed. He was slightly flustered) Asad, Hey..uhh..great party..(He felt foolish the very next second, before Asad had even narrowed his eyes at him confusedly. What a stupid thing to say)
Asad - Yah, uh..thanks, but it has nothing to do with me. Ammi, she uh somehow managed to pull all this together in a day. (He also looked around quite impressed. His Ammi really was a woman with super human strengths. No other woman could afford to manage such tasteful decorations, food, the music, invites out to everyone at such short notice. It may be rushed but she had still made certain that everything was the best of the best. It was perfect. Just the way her son liked it.)
Aahil - Some woman eh? (Asad nodded. The gratefulness, the knowledge of how blessed he truly was to have a mother like her visible in his eyes. For all that God had taken away from him, he had given him much more just by simply giving him a mother like Dilshad. Speaking of whom.)
Dilshad- Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. (of course, no one could deny obeying a commanding and powerful woman like her, so slowly but surely a hush fell over the room) Good evening, thank you ladies and gentlemen for being here tonight. I know it was last minute, sudden and in a city like Kasauli it definitely isn't easy coming out this late, unfortunately, especially looking so beautiful and fancy as all our guests look tonight. Now I know you're all wondering something, something very important and relevant. The reason we are here today. The reason for this sudden party. And I can tell you, it's a big one. A beautiful one. One that will leave you all just as pleasantly surprised as it left me early this morning. As most of you may know, some of you even came to be a part of our celebrations back then that my elder son Anwar got married to a very very beautiful girl named Zeenat not too long ago. Unfortunately that marriage was as rushed and sudden as this party is today so some of you were unable join us and be apart of our happiness or meet my beautiful daughter-in-law. In honour of whom I have arranged this party. (Asad saw a very confused Zoya, her eyes shining with hope come stand by them as Dilshad had started talking. She stared at Dilshad skeptically. He could tell she had a hunch, going by Dilshad's words as to what Dilshad had up her sleeve but she was afraid to believe it. Afraid to get excited and then have her hopes crushed. He could tell it was the same hunch he had because his Ammi wasn't exactly as subtle as she thought she was being at the moment. Asad and her both hesitantly exchanged looks for a brief second before immediately looking away, as if just one look was enough to burn them both. Ignite a fire so deep just the possible intensity of it scared them both. They both stood with waited breaths, turning their attention back to Dilshad) Which is why when they called me this morning to let me know they were planning on coming here to pay us a surprise visit I thought what better way than a party to get you all to meet the happy couple eh? (Aisha's mouth fell open in shock, a bright smile appeared on Aahil's face. But despite having his hunch come true, what brought a ghost of a smile on Asad's face wasn't a visit from his brother this time, like it normally would. But instead, he smiled seeing the dazzling smile that lit up Zoya's face. A genuinely overwhelmingly excited smile. He could tell she wanted to jump and scream in joy. And so he wasn't surprised when she did exactly that as she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned around to see an equally excited Anwar and a teary with happiness, as always Zeenat standing before her with open awaiting arms. Zoya screamed at the same time they screamed 'surprise' and before they could finish screaming it Zoya had launched herself into both of them. Wrapping her arms around both their necks, clinging onto both of them for dear life. They too hugged her back just as tightly, smiling at the rest of them who patiently waited their turns and smiled back in understanding. Zoya did have first dibs, first rights on them anyway. Anwar may be Asad and Aisha's brother but he was much more to Zoya. He was a father figure to her. A replacement for her Jeeju who had been her everything. Of course he could never literally replace Faizan in her life, no one could, the love the respect the important he held in her life no one could claim that but as far as Anwar was concerned. If he couldn't be more, he certainly wasn't any less important. However, everyone, especially Anwar, Zeenat and Asad grew extremely worried when they heard Zoya sniffle softly as she hugged them both. Asad's heart constricting just at the idea of her tears. The sight of them, as he was fast coming to realize, pained him more than anything else in the world. He willed and prayed for whatever it was that had caused her sadness or tears this time to go away on it's own or he was very much capable of MAKING it go away. Anwar pulled her back and cupped her face worriedly as Zoya rushed to wipe her tears.
Anwar - Hey, Hey what's wrong Zoya what's with the tears aren't you happy to see us?
Zoya - I..I am. (Laughed) These are tears of Joy silly (pulled his cheek) I just missed you guys so much, (Zeenat smiled at her, a tear escaping her eye too as she pulled her in for another hug)
Aisha - Awww..
Anwar - What're you awwing about standing there. Get here and give your big brother a hug (A grin broke out on Aisha's face as she excitedly stepped forward to hug him but much to her utter shock she saw Anwar calmly turn to Asad and the two of them hugged instead. A tight hug. Aisha's mouth fell agape in shock, making Aahil laugh in return. She looked so adorable. His laugh made Zeenat and Zoya pull apart too. Wondering what was so funny? Right about then Anwar and Asad pulled apart too.)
Anwar - (patted Asad's face) Good to see you, Kid. (Asad groaned rolling his eyes and Anwar laughed, casually turning his face towards Aisha. He seemed surprised seeing her so enraged and furious with them both. Like as though he and Asad really hadn't done that on purpose, tricked her just now) What?
Asad - (stared at her as innocently as he genuinely came across) you couldn't possibly think he was asking you to give him a hug Aapi? I mean it was pretty obvious, he was talking to me..(Aisha groaned in exasperation throwing up her hands in defeat and stomping away from there. Causing Anwar to chuckle mischievously and Asad to small a smile behind her back. A smile that made a certain Ms. Farooqui smile a little as well.)
Zeenat - Really Asad, I've been trying to figure this out since the day I moved to Delhi how old is your brother?
Asad - (a serious, calculating look on his face) Sould be turning 4 this march. (Anwar's eyes widened as he stared at him while Zeenat made a move to meet Aahil)
Anwar - (melodramatically feeling Asad's forehead) Are you feeling okay? Like really, feeling okay? Did you actually just crack a joke? Are you sure you're not coming down with something?
Zoya - (muttered under her breath) I'll bet. (Thinking over all his recent weird behaviour that was so unlike him. She tried to be as discreet as possible but Asad heard it anyway. Nothing seemed to pass him. A smug smile found it's way to Asad's face just as hope arose in his heart once again. So it wasn't just him who seemed to be going mad. She seemed just as affected by this, whatever this was as much as he was)
Anwar - (meeting Aahil) Baaki patients ke saath saath mere iss budhu se bhai ke dimaagh ka bhi kuch ilaaj kijiye na doctor sahab? (Asad rolled his eyes exaggeratedly slowly at his brother again. Letting him know just how funny he found his joke to really be)
Zoya - (muttered again) A little too late for that now isn't it. (Asad narrowed his eye's at her. Not exactly a big fan of her muttering. Especially muttering insults at him)
Zeenat - Where's Ayaan?
Zoya - Woh bandar bahar apne doston saath hai..I'll go get him..(a huge smile broke out on her face again, still unable to believe they had actually come. Actually surprised them like this) He is going to be SO shocked and so happy to see you. Well not as happy as me. (Wrapped her arms around Anwar again, resting her head on his shoulder) No one can be as happy by this surprise of yours. I am so so so so so so Glad you're here. Thank You, (lifted her head up to her Jeeju and gave him a smile) I love you.
Anwar - (tapped her nose playfully) I love you too (Zeenat watching them both adoringly. As much as her heart warmed at the sight before her. Thankful to Allah for bringing another angel in the form of Anwar into their lives as a replacement for the angel he took away from them she couldn't help the dull ache in her heart she felt every time she saw Anwar and Zoya together. An ache from missing Faizan, from being helpless at wondering what could've been had she still had him today. Had he still been alive today. Would she be as broken as she was today? Zoya could smile, and laugh and fool around as much as she wanted but she couldn't fool Zeenat. Zeenat could see behind the facade, the tears, the pain of a broken angel. It was what kept her up at night anyway's. Her eye's then flickered to Zoya's bandaged hands and Zeenat felt her heart nearly stop beating)
Zeenat - (gasped) Zoya, yeh..yeh chot kaisi hai? Yeh kab, hua kaise..(If not Zoya or Asad that question definitely grabbed Aahil's attention as he turned towards Zoya, raising a challenging eyebrow crossing his arms across his chest. Finally, someone addressed the question he was still dying to know the answer to. The real answer not Zoya's made up bull shit answer. Thank you, Zeenat Aapi. She arrived right on time. Zoya may have gotten out of it with himself & Ayaan let's see how she lied her way out of it now)
Zoya - (rolled her eyes at him) Kuch nahin aapi..choti si chot hai. I fell off my bike and scraped my hands that's it. Ab toh theek bhi ho gayee hai, let me go call Ayaan. (Saying so she turned around and began hurrying off down the hall to the exit doors)
Zeenat - Zoya..Zo..Zoya!! (Sighed. 5 minutes and she was already exasperated with this girl) what bike? When did she..What- (she stared between Aahil and Asad for help, but Asad avoided her eyes like the plague for he would not be able to lie to her and Aahil just gave her a sympathetic smile)
Aahil - (nodded) A bike. (Shook his head after Zoya and all the craziness that came with her and sighed. His eyes now searching the room for a certain Khan) I..uh I need a refill.
Anwar - (raised an eyebrow, a smug smile on his face) refill hunh? (Aahil nodded) that's funny, considering you don't even have a drink. (Aahil stared at his hands which were tucked into his pants pocket, his cheeks reddening. Feeling immensely foolish. He avoided Anwar's eyes and walked away silently, as did Zeenat spotting Dilshad in the distance and once they were all gone, leaving just Asad & Anwar, Anwar raised an eyebrow staring straight ahead)
Anwar - So about this.."bike injury" (turned towards Asad, noticing how Asad seemed to not be meeting his eyes. His guilty tell.) something you wanna tell me? (Asad just shook his head)
Asad - I don't know what you're talking about. I uh, I'll be right back. (Anwar nodded, an all knowing smile on his face as he saw Asad briskly walk away from him as if on fire.)
Anwar - (sighed happily. Staring around the room. A room full of all the people that mattered most to him. He really wouldn't want to be ANYWHERE else in the world than here even if someone paid him to be) YUP. It's good to be home.
A little while Later:
Dilshad - (walking up to a very charmingly smiling Malik, who looked truly honoured to meet the first Khan Bahu Rani. Who was as much his bahu rani as she was Dilshad's. For she was his Anwar's wife and his Asad and Aisha's Bhabi) Aur ab Zeenat in se milo, the most important guest here tonight. After you and (stroked Anwar's cheek lovingly) my darling son of course, yeh hain, Malik Bhai Sahab. (Zeenat gave him a polite unsure smile, which Dilshad very easily read) I know I know what you must be thinking. Ke yeh kaun hain aur itne important kyun hain?
Anwar - (rolled his eyes) Because he likes to believe so and we all just play along to save his feelings. Buzurgon se kya behas karna, nahin Ammi?
Zeenat - (gasped, slapping his arm admonishingly) Anwar..
Anwar - Ammi! Aapke saamne aapki bahu aapke bete ko maar rahee hai..aur aap..(shook his head) generations of saasumas are very unhappy with you right now. Where is the Asian woman inside you?
Malik - Okay, I..I have tried to keep this inside of me for 15 years now, but I'm sorry I..just have to say it Dilshad. Aapke dono bete bauhat ajeeb hain. Both are hopeless. No offence.
Dilshad - (laughed) Don't I know it (Anwar's mouth fell open in shock while Malik laughed with her) Beta, yeh mere teen paagal se bachon ke God Father hain. Malik Bhai Sahab. Mere Bhai aur tumhare husband ke liye baap jaise. (Smiled a sad smile) He is the only family we have in this world, in ways that matter most...
Malik - (smiled, blessing Zeenat by placing a hand on her head) Jeeti raho. Khush raho. And best of luck trying to handle this one over here. Bara yeh hai teenon mein se but he is quite a brat. A handful.
Zeenat - (sighed exasperatedly) I know...
Malik - (laughed) Abhi hatyaar daal diye beti. (Zeenat smiled shyly as Malik pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket) Ab Dilshad behen ne mujhe bataya nahin, but agar bataya hota toh I surely would have brought something. I guess this'll have to do for now (without looking at the amount he had in his hand he straight up placed it in Zeenat's hands much against her efforts to refuse him and stop him) Mana mat karo beta. Ek baap ki haisiat se, sasur ki haisiat se yeh mera haq banta hai. Mun Dikhaee, for my beautiful bahu. Now I don't know how you got stuck with this buffoon here but the minute I met Zoya I knew that Dilshad Behen had landed herself not one but two angels to light up her house. (Zeenat smiled at him as he kissed her forehead lovingly) God Bless.
Anwar - Hey, where's my gift? (Malik shrugged) You know I'm still mad at you for not coming to my wedding right?
Malik - Great! I have Zoya to replace you with now anyways and she's much better than you, you 36 year old brat. (Walking away with Dilshad)
Anwar - (gasped in shock) 34 and 3 quarters!
Zeenat - (shook her head at him) 34 years and 9 months (Anwar just stared at her weirdly as she shook her head and walked away as well leaving him shrugging without a care in the world)
Later in the party: Zoya jumped and screamed in joy, having scored yet another basket and as she turned around to hi5 her team mates she saw Asad standing on the court watching her, with eyes, a look in them that sent a chill down her spine. Her whole body trembled as she tried to keep her smile from faltering and her eye's level with his intense piercing ones despite the fact that she felt like her whole body was on fire under that burning gaze of his. She gulped, nervously blinking, not knowing what havoc the innocence hidden in those eyes and those fluttery eyelashes were playing with his heart.
Nikhil - Hey, Asad, aa na..ek game ho jaye. Come join us man. (Zoya's eyes widened staring between all his friends and Ayaan who all started telling him to play, and Asad who politely shook his head. She didn't quite understand the feeling that passed through her in that moment. Excitement and curiosity over what it would be like to see him play, not alone like she had seen him before but with others in a team, what it would be like to play with him, nervousness about playing with him at the same time, why? She didn't know? How was he different than any of the other 8 boys (excluding Ayaan) that she was playing with? She didn't think twice on it or on them then what was so special, so different about him, what set him so apart suddenly, that just a basketball game with him sent her heartbeats spiralling out of control and her heart fill with disappointment as she saw him turn around, refusing to play and walking away. So much disappointment she couldn't help or stop the bitterness from seeping into her voice)
Ali - Come on man, it's just one game.
Zoya - Don't you know Ali, he doesn't play with girls. He's too afraid his ego won't be able to handle the blow if he lost (Ali and his friends laughed while Asad tried his best to continue walking off and not give in, not succumb to his need to retort to everything she said. Yet, there was a smile on his face at the taunt in her voice. She was so innocent and beautiful and crazy.
Anwar and Malik watched as Zoya along with Ayaan and his friends played basketball on the court at the side of Asad's house, whilst sipping their drinks.)
Malik - Every morning I wake up thinking today will be different, things will be better today but really, it's just getting worse and worse. This city and it's people, we're all suffering. It's like one crazy lunatic dies but 10 are already ready to replace him. (Shook his head) God knows Kasauli ki kismat mein kya likha hai..yahan ke logon ki kismat mein aur kitne aanson, kitna khoon behna baaki hai..
Anwar - and what about your arch angels? Those vigilanties, what do they call themselves the brotherhood? Are they not doing anything? The people may not trust him but I thought you did, I thought you said they were trying to save the city.
Malik - I did, but I'm not too sure now (sighed) It seems like Woh jitna bhi kar lein, kam hai. I don't know I'm just, losing hope..maybe we're just in over our heads trying to think we can save this city..
Anwar - (shook his head) Finally, you're realizing what I've been trying to tell you. Chorein na uncle, kya rakha hai yahan aap kabhi Delhi aayen toh aapko pata chale ke dunya kahan se kahan pauhanch gayee hai aur hum yahan abhi tak apni jaan ki safety ke liye lar rahe hain..kuch nahin para hai yahan maine aap sabko kitni baar bola hai par aap-
Malik - (laughed) tell you what, jiss din tumne apne Bhai ko Kasauli chorne pe raazi kar liya na..uss din mein bhi unke saath tumhare gharki chaukat pe khara hoonga Delhi mein (Anwar rolled his eyes)
Anwar - there's more of a chance of hell freezing over (Malik smiled and nodded knowingly) toh saaf saaf kahiye naa aap bhi uske jitne hi ziddi hain aur kabhi Kasauli nahin choreinge..
Malik - (shrugged) Kasauli is home (Anwar sighed in understanding. How was he to argue that. He heard Zoya and some of the guys screaming in delight and Ayaan screaming in anger and judging by the way Zoya was jumping and hi5ing Ayaan's friends seemed they seemed to have scored a basket against Ayaan's team)
Anwar - That's like my Saali, show these sissies how it's done (Zoya laughed blowing him a kiss and Ayaan who was very much a sore loser slapped her head in annoyance, and Zoya retaliated by hitting him back, both beginning to fight like a bunch of kids, totally ignoring the game)
Malik - (laughed) She's such a lovely girl, very sweet.
Anwar - (sighed) maybe a little too sweet.
Malik - (smiled) The "bike" excuse?
Anwar - (nodded annoyedly) Really, how dumb do the two of them think we are? Asad didn't tell you anything?
Malik - (shook his head) like you said, hell will freeze over before that boy does anything sensible. Like telling anybody, anything. Talking. At all.
Anwar - (sighed, his eyes and small sad smile show casing his worry for his younger brother) How's he doing? (Looking over to where they saw Asad sitting by himself on the steps of the gazebo with a beer in his hands, staring into nothingness. His shoulders defeated tiredly, his eyes swimming with unimaginable sadness)
Malik - (stared at him with just as much sadness) He's struggling. (Anwar nodded knowingly)
Anwar - Each day's a battle eh (Malik nodded)
Malik - God bless him. Tum dekhna mera dil kehta hai, woh din door nahin jab yeh ghar Asad ki khamoshiyon se nahin, hasi se gunj raha hoga. Khuda uss jaise farishton ka sirf ek had tak imtehaan leta hai, uske baad unhe aisi khushiyon se nawazta hai ke dunya dekhti reh jaati hai.
Anwar - I hope so. Khuda aapki zubaan mubarak kare.
Malik - How long you here for?
Anwar - Just a day. Kal raat ko waapis jaana hai. Class on Monday Morning. Aane ka iraada toh nahin tha ek din ke liye, you know it's not ideal, par bachon ki bauhat yaad arahee the so we couldn't resist (Malik nodded in understanding)
Malik - Acha kiya aake..they are very happy to see you (They heard Ayaan and Zoya screaming again and they both looked over to see Zoya snatch the ball from Nikhils hand and throw it at Ayaan's head furiously, nearly causing him to topple over. All the boys stared in shock between them two while Ayaan held his head trying to come to terms with what Zoya had just done before his mouth fell agape as he realized it whilst Zoya was storming over to Anwar and Malik)
Ayaan - PAAGAL AURAT.
Zoya - (turned around to stick her tongue out at him) CHEATER!! (Ayaan stuck his tongue out to the back of her head and tossed the ball back to Nikhil before storming off in the other direction)
Anwar - (laughed seeing the fire in Zoya's eyes) Kya hogaya?
Zoya - This Ayaan, ARGH! He's such a cry baby. I don' know why I play with him knowing how much of a sore loser he can be when he looses.
Malik - Want me to fix him up for you? (Zoya stared at him confusedly) Police waala hoon beta (held up his hand) inn haathon ne kahi saare logon ki muramat ki hai..
Zoya - (giggled) Tab bhi yeh aur iska dost aapka chaheta god son aise hain? Nek kaam mein itni deri (Malik laughed shaking his head as he excused himself to go inside)
Anwar - It's really always heart touching to see your desire to see violence against my chota bhai (Zoya giggled naughtily and Anwar side hugged her, both of them leaning against the rales of the patio) It's so good to see you, be here with you.
Zoya - Good to see you too. But tell me yeh party toh aap aur Aapi ko as a couple introduce karne ke liye haina. To show case you. Phir aap yahan kya kar rahe ho aur meri behen andar kya kar rahee hai. You should be inside with her-
Anwar - Yah right. To suffer that torture. No thank you.
Zoya - (narrowed her eye's) what torture?
Anwar - Beta, yahan police inspector Malik Uncle zaroor hongein par inspection aur inquiry toh andar aapki behen ki ho rahee hai, yahan maujood saari auntiyon ke haathon. This is the first time Ammi is introducing her daughter-in-law to all of them they're too busy scrutinizing her with microscopic eyes to find some sort of fault, anything to gossip about in tomorrows kitty party.
Zoya - (her eye's wide) well tough luck to them. My aapi's perfect.
Anwar - (laughed) Oh don't be so sure. You'll be shocked. If they don't find anything, they'll decide they don't like the colour of her hair, or the way she styled it because apparently that is a tell of how 'conniving' she is as a person.
Zoya - (still in shock) WOW.
Anwar - it's better if you stay out here with me, kyunki agar tum andar gayee toh unke saath saath tumharee analysis bhi shuru ho jayegee starting with this "inappropriate" dress you're wearing..
Zoya - (her eyes widened, in pure horror as she whispered to herself) A tribe of Female Jahapanahs.
Anwar - what?
Zoya - What? Oh..uh nothing. Par phir hum yahan kareinge kya? (Anwar shrugged) Oh I know, let's go to the beach and get some ice cream.
Anwar - Iss weather mein? Itni raat ko? Zoya-
Zoya - Oh come on Jeeju, stop getting influenced by Aapi..you're supposed to be on my side against her. Not on her side against me. Beside, she's (whispered dramatically) kinda, crazy. Obsessively worrying over nothing all the time.
Anwar - Hey, stop calling my wife crazy. She's not crazy, she's your sister beta. She loves you. That's why she's worried for you. (Zoya pouted) and besides, Lunatic is the right word to describe her. (They both laughed devilishly as Anwar stood up) alright saali saheba, ice cream it is.
Zoya - (pumped her fist in the air excitedly) YAY! Thanks jeeju your the bestest.
Anwar - (smiled pulling her cheek) iss pyaare se pari se chehre ko kaun inkaar kar sakta hai.
Zoya - (muttered) your brother for one.
Anwar - (laughed, raising an eyebrow at her) Kya shaam se barbara rahee ho. I know you're itching to tattle tail on my brother so just come out with it.
Zoya - (rolled her eye's, the familiar fireworks going off in her eyes and irritation flashing dangerously in them) Trust me, if I got started on him we'd be here all night.
Anwar - (laughed) suit yourself. But if you want to, I'm all ears.
Zoya - Apne bhai ki burayee sunna mind nahin karoge aap?
Anwar - Iss mein mind karne waali kaunsi baat hai, free ke entertainment milti hai mujhe. Woh tumharee buraee karega, tum uski buraee karogi (shrugged) it's always heartwarming to see 4 year old brats like you too fighting (Zoya stared at him in shock before she burst out laughing)
Zoya - Jeeju you're too much..
Anwar - I know I'm the best. Now you missy (tapped her nose) go grab a jacket, I don't want you catching a cold and I'll go grab the car keys and ask Aisha and Asad if they'd like to join us..
Zoya - (rolled her eyes) best of luck trying to convince Akdu Ahmed Khan. (Walking away shaking her head) (Anwar raised an eyebrow after her, a calculative look on his face. It was actually very interesting how every other sentence of Zoya's seemed to have something or the other to do with Asad and he was sure she didn't even realize it. After she had walked away inside Anwar looked to the Gazebo where Asad was now slouching on the steps, his head resting on the edge of the steps, his eyes closed, smoking. Anwar's eyes watered slightly, as he took in a deep breath to control his aching heart which always broke seeing his brothers plight. See the broken look in his brother's eyes. See the demons, the pain, the sadness that surrounded him. Troubled him. Like he was sure was troubling him at the moment. He sent a small prayer to his Allah to please bless his brother with the peace and happiness he deserved. Mend his broken heart and soul. Heal him. Complete him. Bring him back to life. Bless his life with all the happiness a true angel and gold hearted person like him deserved. As he reached him and stood over him, Asad slowly opened his eyes sensing a presence around him and saw his elder brother glaring down at him with a not so happy look. His arms folded and his eyebrow raised. Asad sighed running a hand through his unkempt hair. He really wasn't in the mood to be told off for anything at the moment. He sat up slowly, avoiding his brother's eyes waiting for him to get on with it so that the faster he was done the faster he could return to his misery)
Anwar - Kabhi iss zeher ko (snatching the cigarette from his hand much to Asad's immense annoyance) mun se nikaal bhi diya karo. (Asad glared at him)
Asad - Can I help you with anything? Or are you simply here to grill me with yet another lecture about how I should quit the only thing in this world that brings me any semblance of peace and happiness, like that saali of yours or (scoffed) are you here to grill me about her injury.
Anwar - (smiled a sad smile) I would grill you about her injury if I thought it was going to get me any answers but I know it's a lost cause with you and this (held up the cigarette) this is the only semblance of peace and happiness in your life Asad? A poison is your definition of peace and happiness. Not your business, your accomplishments, your wealth, your health, your home, your family your friends these countless blessings, none of that but a poison.
Asad - (stared at him like Anwar was stupid to ask that question. Like if the answer was that obvious. Before he responded in a slow and dead serious matter, like as though he were spelling it out for a kid) Yes.
Anwar - (sighed, his heart breaking seeing the sadness in his brothers eyes, the defeated, tired and broken look in them) Asad, (He saw Asad's eyebrows furrow, he held his head and looked away, his frustrated and upset tell. Though it pained him to see him so forlorn, lonely and distant, so sad and broken it also worried him. He wanted to know what was upsetting him so he could help him get over it, and come back to life, come back to them but knowing Asad it was not one thing. It was everything. It was complicated, deep and heart wrenching. A life time of misery, heart break and pain that he was harbouring in his heart. So Anwar didn't push further. He knew it was a lost cause but he had to try anyways)
Anwar - We're going to go grab some ice cream at the beach. How about you give this sickening habit a rest (flicking the cigarette away) and join us hunh? Get some fresh air, some ice cream, some good company and try to enjoy yourself. Trust me it'll be fun. You may surprise yourself by finding peace and happiness in other things too Asad, if only you gave them a chance. In things, places and people you would have least expected. If only you opened your heart and life to them. (Little did he know that he had not just opened his heart to such a person, but he was already losing his heart to her. Fast. The one and only person who could bring absolute peace and infinite happiness to his life)
Asad - (stood up slowly. A dark, haunted look in his face and his eyes. He pulled out yet another cigarette from his packet and placed it between his teeth as Anwar watched him in disbelief and worry while Asad went ahead and exaggeratedly slowly lit the cigarette. Making his point. He then took a long drag, exhaling even more slowly. Before turning towards Anwar with such a dark smile, such darkness in his eyes, Anwar was actually, truly scared.)
