"Umm...it just like every time an alarm goes off in my heart, you appear..."
"An Alarm..?" "Like the kind that goes off when a fire starts?"
"Hmm..."
"Then allow me..."

"To be your fireman..."
"Hehhh..." She let out a sad laugh... Where are you today?'
Turning back from the balcony she sighed... It was New Year eve and inside the party was in full swing... Her gaze was wondering over everyone...searching for the only face...that personified calmness... The only serene smile that had the power to ease her heart when it gets restless...
Her gaze captured someone and she sighed closing her eyes and throwing her head back... "Why I am thinking about you when I should think about Shaad...my would-be fiance..."
Turning back again she took a cup that placed on the railing... Really is it coffee that set the damaged mood or...?? She trailed off and took a sip of her coffee watching those thousands of colorful lanterns floating...illuminating the sky...
It was a delightful sight...and her life was too just as delightful as that sight... At least for the spectators it was!!!
Shaad... The heart-throb...each girl wants to date... Only son of Guffur Siddiqui, the business magnate and the chairman of Siddiqui group...
He did make her each dream come true... that dreamy proposal, romantic dates, surprises...and the sudden announcement of engagement as a New Year gift...
He was everything that any girl would wish...like just perfect... And within few hours he would be officially hers only...
Then...what was missing... Why the suffocation...again it was like the smoke was everywhere... and she couldn't breathe...like something inside her...begging her to hurry... but for what??
Placing the cup on the railing she closed her eyes and breathed... "Shaad..."
Go and talk to him' her mind screamed...
But in her imagination...Shaad was nowhere... A smiling face took an existence was different...

"What happened?" She stopped in her track as he appeared in front...
"Ohh...like you didn't know..." She snapped as she wiped the water off of her face with one hand while with other she adjusted her drenched dress cursing Shaad as he pushed her into the pool when they argued over something...
"Here..." He moved close
"Stay away from me..." She snapped moving back... "I know you are here to see what that so called friend of yours did with me...but let me remind you..."
She gasped as he wrapped his jacket around her...
"You know..." He smirked moving back, "You should learn how to remain silent for at least sometime...it would help to avoid such troubles..." shoving hands in his pants pocket he stepped back staring at her...a smile playing on his lips...and he turned...
She grabbed the lapels of the jacket and crossed it over her chest staring at his retreating back till he disappeared at the end of the hallway...

"I don't know...why it does not feel right..." She sighed looking over the crowd of students...and mostly those girls... Some were happy for her, some were heartbroken, and some envied her... She managed to get her way out from the crowd, they still hooted for her and Shaad... Shaad proposed her in the middle of the campus...and she didn't understand what to say...
It's yes...right?" He asked expectantly and she just blinked trying to smile...looking around...
Her equation with Shaad was not good in the beginning... He was one rich spoiled brat and she was the first girl in his life who challenged him and never gave a damn about his name or fame... Over the time they managed to be friends... She was aware of his changing feelings but she wasn't sure about her own...
It was like he was forcing her into the relationship... Like he was pulling her into his world where she wasn't comfortable...
"Why...why I didn't say anything..." she cursed herself looking at him as he smiled at her blowing a kiss to her way...
"I need some time Shaad..." she breathed closing her eyes...
"You made him happy...thank you..." A deep, calm voice reached her ears
She opened her eyes to see he was there...standing in front of her...smiling...
It was like with that just one smile the rising smoke around her drifted away ...and she smiled back... "I am not sure...it...it's like my heart is not ready for it...all is happening so fast...and I feel like I can't manage in his world..."
"You can...you have that power to hold him if he runs fast..." he assured her
"You think it will work...?" She asked searching in his eyes...like his one approval and everything would be fine...
"Yes...it will...give it a chance..."
"Hmmm..." She gazed in his eyes and he looked away...
She kept staring at him as he stared ahead... "Your world is different and it feels comfortable in your world..."
She watched him as he smile before turning towards her... "There is nothing like my world or your world or his world..." He said turning his gaze towards Shaad who came towards them... "Just be yourself..." He mumbled before moving ahead as he hugged Shaad... And she could sense how happy he sounds for his best friend...
"Why you feel different then..." she wondered...

"Hmm...take this..."
"Huh?" She looked up as he offered a cup of coffee
"Coffee may help you to set your damaged mood..." He said sitting beside her on the bench
"I don't want to talk about Shaad..." She looked away... It was when she had a fight with Shaad as he threatened one of the college students
"I didn't even say his name..." He smiled
"Why he is so manipulative...like he owns the world..." she huffed
"See you are still talking about him only..." He raised his brows and she sighed taking a sip of coffee
"He is changing just for you...you managed a lot..." He remarked and she looked at him... For a moment her eyes met with his before he looked away... "You turned him into a better person and he truly loves you...a lot..."
"Hmm...I know..." She closed her eyes... "But do I love him..."
"Love is different for everyone..." He smiled and she looked at him confused, "You are brave enough to be different..."

"Hehhh..." She slouched on the chair as she placed the box in her hand on the table... She was in caf...
"Hii..."
"You..." she looked up surprised, "How come you here...?"
"Someone hired me..." He blinked and she smiled
"You okay...?" he asked as he sat in front of her
"Hmm..." she just hummed
"Shaad is feeling really bad...but he has to go...he can't avoid the function, you know right...?" He asked as he squeezed her hand that placed on the box...
"Hmm...I know..." "He promised the evening with me...but that's fine...what if he is not here...he had arranged a lot for me...see..." She smiled sadly looking around the caf...decorated beautifully... Her gaze stopped on his face for some moment and he raised his brows...
"Let's celebrate..." She said excitedly as she opened the box
"Heheee..." He laughed and she looked up... "So you are going to blow the candle and I should sing a birthday song for you..." he asked controlling his laugh as she lit the candles on the cake...
"Of course you should..." She threatened him and he laughed more...
"You should just stop threatening me like this..." he said controlling his laugh
She just stared at him...fascinated...
"What...?" he asked narrowing his eyes...

"Be happy...always...!!!" He feed her a piece of cake and her eyelids closed as he kissed on her temple...

"I am sorry Shaad...sorry..." disturbed she kept walking out of the campus...
It was the third time she withdrew herself when Shaad tried to get closer... She knew she was not doing right but she couldn't let herself dive that deep... It was like something holding her back... Shaad didn't say a word but he was hurt...she could see and she cursed herself more...
"I am not ready for it Shaad...I...How I...no...I can't..." she panicked thinking about their engagement... "It's happening too soon...I can't match your speed Shaad and now I don't even know how to stop you..." She was restless...her heart beating rapidly and her breath came heavily; unevenly...she clutched her head...struggling to keep her eyes open... It was like a wisp of smoke spiraled up from nowhere...and engulfed her...
"Hey..."
A familiar calming voice...and finally she let her eyelids closed...
"You Okay?"
Her eyes opened slowly... The smoke started to drift away...clearing the view for her...
"What's wrong with you?" he steadied her
"Umm...nothing..." She moved back from his hold
"What is it?" He asked observing her state, "You do not look okay..."
She gulped closing her eyes, "I...I am...fine..."
"Is it related to Shaad...?" He crossed his arms
"Yes...I mean...no...nothing...it's just because..."
"Hmm..." he sighed interrupting her, "When it comes to man and woman there is never a Just because..." Moving ahead he placed his hands on her shoulders, "There is always a reason for everything..." he said looking deep into her eyes...
As usual the calmness was intact on his face... but those eyes...deep brown eyes...distressed...like struggling in the wild storm...
She watched him as he moved back... "Stop pulling back..." Shoving his hands in his pant pockets he smiled...that serene smile of his...before looking away... "Don't lose something... that is strong enough to hold you...for...forever..."

Her eyes flashed open...wide...
She moved back as the firework filled the entire sky with explosion...blinding her with light... And she blinked as if she had seen something in that light...something that was in the dark for all the while when she was trying hard to understand what was it...that begging her to hurry...
The year is going to end with so many beautiful memories...' He said looking far away while sipping his coffee
"Like...?" her brows raised
"Umm...Like..." he looked towards her and his eyes twinkled in mischievous smile... "All the time running to put out the fire when someone called 101..."
She glared...and he laughed...
"That you have to do always..."
"What if I want to resign from my job...?"
"No..."
"Yes..."
"You can't..."
"I can..."
"But why...?"
"Umm...Just because..."
"Asad..." She breathed...placing her hand on her heart as it hammered getting restless...
There is never a just because...' getting anxious she mumbled... You knew it...Then why...why you did this Asad...WHY?" She cried... Why you kept running away...why?'
"Where are you...?" she panicked as his call didn't connect... "If you are not strong enough to hold onto your love then your love will hold you for...forever..." She cried as she traced his name on the screen...
"Zoya..."
She stood froze as Shaad stared at her...
"So he is the reason..." his voice dangerously low and she gulped
"See...Shaad...listen... listen to me please... once... it..."
"Come..." He ordered grabbing her wrist, "I won't let him go easily...he did very wrong..."
"Shaad...please...listen...he didn't do anything wrong...he never..." She stopped as Shaad glared before igniting the engine
"Then why he is running away like this..." "You both just fooled me..." he was enraged... Changing the gear he speeded up the car...
Zoya begged him to slow down but her pleas spurred him to go faster and giving up she clung silently to the seat...
"What he thinks...he could do whatever he wants and I'll just watch the drama quietly..." He slammed on the brakes finally stopping the car... They were at Airport...
"Go..."
Zoya looked towards Shaad as he ordered...
"Go and stop that idiot..." Leaning back on his seat he pushed his hair back...he was calm...
"Shaad..." she whispered out
"What do you think of me Zoya..." he sighed before looking towards her, "Spoiled brat...right?" He laughed before looking ahead... "That you used to call me and maybe I am the one...but I am not that heartless Zoya...?"
"Shaad...don't...you are not..."
"Hey...I know..." he shook his head, "Go...before I damage that calm face of his..." "Such a fool he is...!" He shook his head getting out forcing Zoya to go and she nodded blinking the tears away...
She ran through the crowd...and her steps halt at the entrance and she looked back...
Shaad smiled raising his hands...giving her thumbs up sign asking her to go ahead... She nodded with a teary smile before she crashed through the security at entrance...
Not giving a damn to the security officers running behind her she ran crazily...hoping to see the one face... Halting in the middle she looked around...but all the unfamiliar faces around made her anxious...
She looked back as the security officers shouted behind her...
Closing her eyes she took a deep breath...
"Asaaaddd..." with all strength she yelled his name...
Everything stilled in that moment and she opened her eyes... "Where are you...?" Panic surged through her system as she couldn't spot him anywhere...
A smoke started to surround her and she couldn't breathe... "You should come...please..." Her gaze hovered everywhere and she felt everything was spinning around her...
"Zoya..."
Her eyes flared open and she turned briskly...
He was there... Calm...serene...as ever...!!!
"How could you..." She growled as she ran towards him...
"How dare you...?" She demanded as she grabbed his collar and he just stared at her...stunned...
"You knew it from the beginning Asad...then why...?" She cried pulling on his collar
"What are you talking about...I knew what Zoya...?" he asked trying to loosen her grip that urged her to tighten her hold more...
"Why you kept pushing me away..." "You knew it...I can't survive in the fire around...then why??" "Why are you running away...leaving me...to burn...?" "Why Asad...WHY??"
"Zoya...come with me...we can..." looking around awkwardly as the crowd gathered around them he tried to pull her away but she wasn't ready to understand anything...
"You better answer me first Asad...why are you running away..."
"I am not...It just because..."
"NO...it's not..." she yelled pulling him by his collar, "When it comes to a man and woman..." She said looking deep in his eyes... Their faces inches apart...
"There is never a just because..." her heart hammered as she whispered...loosening her hold...
"See...Zo..." he was interrupted...
Before she knew what she was doing, she reached up and grasped his face in her palms not giving him chance to say a word more... Not caring about anything around... she rose up on her toes and pressed her lips on his...
He blinked his eyes...dazed with her sudden move...not able to react in any way...he just stood still... And she smiled against his lips realizing his shocked state...
Pulling back herself slightly she wounded her arms around his neck as she whispered, "There is always a reason...isn't it...?"
A crowd around them clapped...cheered...and realizing her surrounding she moved back... Looking around she squeezed her eyes shut feeling embarrassed...
"So...is it going to your new way..." He crossed his arms and she opened her eyes, "Of threatening me if I refuse to be your fireman...?"
She smiled noticing him as calm as ever... "You won't be able to refuse..." she said moving close to him, "Because I am strong enough to hold my love...for...forever..." For the first time he let her gaze into his deep eyes... Eyes...those holds nothing but love...for her...
A smile lifted on his face as her hands wrapped around him... "I Love you Asad..." she whispered against his heart...
"I Love you too Zoya..." he whispered allowing his love to hold him...
His hands squeezed her close to himself... "It's never a just because..."
