She said I should wait for her.
That I was the one with whom she belonged.
I waited.
Days...Months...Years...
And then one day she came.
They told me they had seen her at the temple grounds.
I ran...
There she sat at the steps, laughing merrily.
...Looking prettier than ever.
I stood enchanted.
As did the flowers, breeze and the temple chimes.
Stars would be jealous of the twinkle in her eyes.
Moonlight, her soft glow would put to shame.
And then she rose.
...Walked towards me.
Her pearly smile mesmerised me.
And then...
She walked past me.
Eased into the arms another offered.
As if...
That was where she belonged.
I raised my hands to stop her.
But her gown so white, my hands so grubby.
Her Past, I was just that.
Her gift to me- Numbness, I will carry for life.
The voices died down.
The market was empty.
She was long gone.
And time stopped for me.
Call it not a Betrayal.
Or a Folly.
She has chosen Life,
I have chosen her.
She moves on.
Her Grace fills me.
For I am the one for whom time has stopped.
