PART 4
(If you're hoping for selfies and hotness..I'm afraid there's none here. But hey...read anyway!)
"I should have known." Sanam muttered under her breath. Damn it, I should have known! It is so clear! How did I miss it!
And what did Simran say? "But hey, I just... you should've seen him, babe. Something isn't adding up here... maybe you should go-"
Phone in one hand and umbrella in another, she set both her feet out of her flat.
"Please, Aahil ! Please listen to me ! I have not done anything!! Please Aahil ! You know me...Please !!"
She can't help herself to these treacherous thoughts. It's time for some bad memories to surface too. No more hiding, Sanam tells herself. No more.
Oh this is just plain... crazy.
Crazy in love I was that day you put a ring on my finger.
Crazy it is that I'm the reason for your every smile.
Crazy I am every day without you.
Crazy I am everyday. Without you.
Crazy I'm sure you are too...without..me.
"Sanam. He's not coming for you. He's not. Allah jaane, I've prayed and prayed, and kept praying. I will that he comes. That he be led to you. That he take you with him. Or that he stays with you. But he hasn't. And he isn't going to. Sanam, I know this is hard fact. I know this is difficult, but beta, the sooner you grasp that the better it'll be."
"Badi Ammi...Badi Ammi...I..."
"I know meri bachi, I know. Cry your heart out, love. Your Badi Ammi is here for you. Always."
"A..Am..Ammi and Abbu too right? They are with me always."
"Yes, of course, meri bachi. Of course. They are watching over you. Always."

Aahil runs his fingers through his hair. He can feel a headache coming. A real bad one. Unbelievable, he thinks to himself. She's been here all along.
Rehan was right. He had been looking too hard. At the wrong places too. He should have given it a proper thought. But how could he? He was in no state to think of anything else but her. She was all he could think of. She was all he wants. All that he needs. And her not being there only made things worst. He remembers now, those dark days...
"Crazy...kiya REH. Krrazee keeyaa REH," Aahil slurred.
"Aahil bhai you're drunk. Let's get you back."
"She didn't stop me. She didn't stop me Rehan. She always stops me. Why didn't she stop me. Why Rehan. Why didn't she stop me. Why. Where is she. Where is she, Rehan? Tell her, Rehan. Please, tell her. Tell her I'm drinking. She'll come. She doesn't like me drinking. Tell her. Tell her, NOW."
"Aahil bhai."
"Please. Please just call her. Nooo. No no! Why did they stop the music. PUT IT BACK ON. I SAID PUT IT BACK ON! HOY YOU CLUB WALE. PUT IT BACK ON! AND KEEP THE MUSIC LOUD. Keep it loud. So loud. So so loud. So loud...that I can't hear my own thoughts. So loud that...that I can't hear her in my head. Where is she Rehan. Tell her to come back."
The shrill of his ringing phone alerted him back to reality. Rehan.
"Yes, Rehan? Any news?"
"Hello? Hello Aahil bhai? Can you hear me?"
"Hello Rehan? Where are you? What's all that noise?"
"Aahil bhai, leave whatever you're doing and hurry here now! The old Kohinoor site. I don't have time to explain, I have to stop-."
"What's going on Rehan? Rehan? Hello? Rehan? Damn it!"
Aahil knows Rehan meant business, something must be seriously wrong.
Rehan. What would he have done without his right hand man. His brother. He had almost given up on life if it wasn't for Rehan. While he lost all hope, it was Rehan that got him to believe. And stayed hopeful.
It was his idea too that they hire private investigators. Aahil insisted on the country's best. But even they failed. Today if it wasn't for Rehan, he would have given the event a miss. Somehow Rehan managed to talk him into attending. Just trust me on this, he'd said. Did Rehan know something?
"Well, I guess I'm about to find out," Aahil grabs his keys and rushes to his car.
Aahil's mind wanders yet again.
"I'm not answerable to you."
"Aahil bhai. Just stop, okay? You know that I know. Why this facade? Why are you pretending? All those time ago. You knew! You knew where she was. You knew. Sure, she left. BUT YOU KNEW WHERE SHE WAS. The whole time! You could have gone to her. But you didn't. YOU DIDN'T. Now really. Just stop. Why all this? Drinking. Moping around. Hiring girls every night. You don't even sleep with them. What are you doing?"
"I don't know what you mean. And again. I can do what I want and I'm not answering anything. Think what you want."
"Huh. Of course. Is that why your lips twitch every time I mentioned that day? Is that why your eyes dart straight to the ring around your neck? What's going on here? What happened that day? Why did you just leave? Why was she shaken up. Why didn't you come home that night? Why did she begged me to tell her where you were?"
"You're forgetting something really important here. She left. Not me."
"Aahil bhai. You love her more than you've loved anybody. She's your life and you're crazy about her, and this is me saying! I used to believe you both resent each other. Heck you both out such a good show at it anybody coukd be fooled. That the marriage was a contract and it remained a contract. But I'm not blind. I learned soon enough that you both were hopelessly in love with each other. What happened Aahil bhai? Please let me help you. What are you hiding? Why did you question your trust in her when she needed you the most?"
"Stay out of this Rehan. I dont want to talk about it."
"This is no time to hide Mr Aahil Raza Ibrahim! Get yourself together! Talk to me!"
******
"You are not Sanam. Who are you? Tell me everything now!"
Rehan cannot believe his eyes. There stood before him was Sanam, except it wasn't Sanam. Unless Sanam dyed her hair blonde while she was away. But no. That's impossible, he could have sworn the retreating figure from earlier today was the real Sanam. And no, no blonde hair there. Okay granted, he didn't see Sanam at all at the hotel, but surely... This is just...crazy. Who is this girl?
"I'm asking you one more time WHO ARE YOU? AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
Heavy construction was being carried out around them. Rehan was still at the hotel asking around about Sanam when he received an urgent phone call regarding a trespasser at the old site where they are now building a new outskirt office at.
"Listen I've called the cops, now you can tell me who you are and what you're doing here or I'll let them do the questioning. And they I'm sure are not as pretty looking."
Rehan cursed his luck. He knew he had to rush to the old site and see into the matter himself. Who is this person trespassing into a construction site. Telephone connection is bad there, one of the things he had had planned to improved on. But too bad that can only be worked on in the later part of their construction. He couldn't asked much but was only told that it was urgent.
He reached there just in time to hear a woman screeching at the top of her voice LET ME GO!
"Abdul bhai, you called?"
Rehan sahab, said a frantic looking Abdul. This lady here we found trying to enter into the tools and machinery room. She claims that she's been called here. But she wouldn't say who called her.
"Where is she? Bring me to her."

Sanam boarded the local bus. This bus takes her to her Badi Ammi's house. She knows if she's looking for answers she should start from there. Ammi, no. Begum Sahiba's cruel words to her that unfateful day should have made her realise this fact sooner- that it was all planned.
Sanam first met Begum Sahiba at the hospital where Badi Ammi was being treated. Or that was what she believed to be the case. Little did she know that Begum Tanveer has set her 'eyes' on her long before that.
After a few chanced and planned meetings, Begum Sahiba came to her house with a proposal. To ask for her hand in marriage. To the very man she had declared war against. The man whom she not so soon after grew madly in love with. Aahil Raza Ibrahim. I know this may sound crazy to you...but hear me out first, was what the older lady had said.
Begum Sahiba laid down her terms. Sanam realised just then that this was no ordinary marriage. This is an arrangement of sorts. A contract. A contract marriage!
She couldn't believe her ears. What was Begum Sahiba suggesting? That she, Sanam Ahmed Khan would entertain such mortifying idea? And for what? Just so her family trust won't end up in the wrong hands. How does that concerned her at all? Just as she was conjuring up the right words to show her disdain towards the proposal, Begum Sahiba used her one trump card.
In no less than five days, they were engaged (Begum Sahiba put the ring on her finger) and they performed the nikah ceremony the very next day.
"Assalamualaikum Badi Ammi."
"Arrey Sanam! Meri bachi! You didn't tell me you were coming! No calls, no nothing! How are you my love!"
"Badi Ammi I..."
******
"It was a mistake. I came here by mistake. I don't mean any harm." Blonde Sanam struggles with the tight hold of the construction workers.
"Let her go. What are you guys doing?"
"Rehan Sahab, don't go by her words, she almost knocked over Dilawar with that hoe. Look at him, he's bleeding!"
"You. You seem like a decent guy. Unlike these guys...CRAZY THEY ARE. Holding a girl like this! Tell them to let me go. It was a mistake. I came to the wrong place. And and and.. I didn't mean to hit that guy. I was scared and he was running after me. So I panicked and threw the hoe at him. Trust me."
"Let her go."
"But Rehan Sahab-"
"I said.. Let. Her Go."
"Uh, I..phone! My phone! Is ringing! Where's my phone? I can hear it. I must have dropped it while running jus-"
"You stay here. Abdul. Get the phone. Let's see who is calling her. Maybe they can be more of help?"
"Here, Rehan Sahab."
"Hey, it's my phone! Why are you-"
Eyes on the lady's phone. Fixated. Rehan's eyes shocked him the third time that day
.
Staring back at him was a picture of his mother, with the large words 'BEGUM SAHIBA Calling' right at the top.
Rehan answers the call.
"Sunehri? Sunehri? Can you hear me? How long have I tried calling you. After yesterday's document signing I thought all will be over wshwshwshwshwshwsh and you can finally have your money wshwshwshwshwshwsh damn that girl Sanam. I just heard that she's back. Wshwshwshsh----"
Phone line goes dead.
******
For once Sanam welcomed the rain.
Tonight she's allowing it to wash away all bad memories from that day. Tonight she's relishing in the fact that she is still Aahil's. Every part of her belongs to him. All of her is his. Try as hard as she wants, fact remains, she loves him. And she always have. All of her loves all of him. Just like that song. He sang it to her once. But she didn't tell him, that she'd never enjoyed the melancholy feel it brings with it every time she listened to it play.
Today it makes sense to her. The nostalgia stabbing her every sense.
You're crazy... And I'm out of my mind.
He calls every night, Badi Ammi had told her earlier. Talks about the most mundane of things. Until I tell him there's still no news from you.
Tears streamed down her face. Tonight she's letting them all out. Only tonight. Once tomorrow starts, it's a new dawn. A new hope. A new beginning. Their new beginning.
Aahil, I'm coming home.
Home.
Thank you for reading.
