Following five years together, Nina Dobrev, the actress from Vampire Diaries, and Olympic snowboarder Shaun White have mutually ended their engagement, as confirmed by PEOPLE. Their relationship, which began in 2019 and became a beloved Hollywood pairing, has concluded with love and respect.

The couple's last public appearance was on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles. Just a week later, Dobrev attended the Eternity premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, noticeably without her 5-carat diamond engagement ring. She has also removed the engagement announcement that had been pinned on her Instagram since White proposed in October 2024.

Shaun White, 39, and Nina Dobrev, 36, first encountered each other in 2012 at an awards show, but their connection didn't spark until seven years later at a Tony Robbins event in Florida.

Reflecting on their initial dinner after the event, White shared with PEOPLE in January 2022 that he "actually didn't know anything about [Dobrev]" at the time. He found it amusing when staff members kept requesting photos with her. "I was like, 'What's happening? What's going on?' It was actually really funny," he said.

The couple started dating in 2019 and moved in together at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. White made their relationship Instagram official in May 2020, posting photos of Dobrev giving him a quarantine haircut. "Nina's just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me," White shared. "Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special."

Despite the breakup, sources indicate that the split was amicable. The pair reportedly still have mutual admiration for one another, valuing the years they shared and the memories they created.
