Chapter 1

It was a bright, sunny morning in the city of Bhopal. The birds were chirping away and roses were blooming in the garden. In a large white bungalow, a man in his 50s was seated in his study with a file in his hand. He was none other than Mr. Gaffur Ahmed Siddiqui, one of the leading business and Islamic members of the Bhopal community. He was trying to concentrate on reading his work file but his daughter who was standing in front with her hands folded pleading him was distracting him. He looked up at her from his file. Dressed in a blue jeans and pink kurti, she had her hair tied up in a loose bun, she had her hands folded and her innocent eyes looking at him, "please abu...please!!!!!!" she said. He smiled, she resembled so much to her mother, he thought. "zoya...maine kaha na tum nahi jasakthi, tum bacchi nahi rahi keh aise zid karo," he said. Zoya pouted. "abu please...sirf ek...," she was trying to convince him when her mother interrupted her. "aabh kya nakre laga rakhe hai issne," she said as she walked in with her husband's tea. Zoya's face suddenly stiffened. If she had any hopes before, now they were all gone. "razia yeh kehrahi hai keh isse ek meine sehar keh uss par jaake school mein padana hai aur wahi rehna hai," gaffur replied. "kya? Iss kehliye shaadi keh rishte aarahe hai aur yeh ladki koh humare ghar ki izzat pure shehar mein udana hai," she said looking at zoya. "abu please mujhe shaadi nahi karne hai...please abu," zoya said as she looked at her father hoping he would agree. "zoya, maine tumse kaha haina keh tumara yeh sabh karna mujhe manzoor nahi hai. Tumari ammi theek kehrahi, aabhi bahud hogayi tumari mann maani aabh aur nahi," he said angrily.

Zoya wanted to leave and just forget about it but she always wanted to be a teacher. She wanted to share her knowledge with others. This was the only opportunity she would probably ever get and she wasn't going to get another chance. Zoya stepped forward and kneeled down in front of him and took her father's hands in hers, "abu mujhe pata hai keh aap nahi chathe keh main ek teacher bano par abu maine bahut mainat se paada abu aur college mein sabh se beech mujhe select kiya hai yeh internship kehliye. Aap dono ne mere liye bahut kuch kiya aur main uss kehliye kuch bhi karsakthi aur karna bhi chahiye. Mujhe sirf yeh ek meine deh dijiye abu, mera sapna jeene kehliye, iss ek meine keh baad main aap joh kahenge main wohi karongi, main vaada karti hoon abu, please abu mujhe yeh waqt deh dijiye," zoya said honeslty as her eyes filled with tears. "aabh bolti hoon toh kahongi keh bolti hai...kya karlongi yeh ek meine mein? Acche ghar ki ladkiya yeh sabh nahi karti par main tume yeh kyun kehrahi hoon, tume kya farak padtha hai. Iss tarah keh kapde pehena, ajeeb arkate karna, aur aabh yeh sabh," razia mocked looking at zoya then at her husband. Zoya didn't say anything and just looked at her abu with hope. Gaffur didn't know what to do. He was a man of principles and his image in society was very important to him. But, he always fell weak for his daughter's wishes. He was strict but didn't have the heart to take away the hope she had in her eyes at the moment. He never said anything when his wife mocked her, he has never told her the truth, and he has taken a lot away from her and the worst was she didn't even know about it.

He caressed her cheek wiping away the tears, "theek hai beta, ja! Deh diya tujhe ek meine ka waqt. Pure karle apne sapne," he told her. A bright smile broke on her lips showing her dimpled cheeks. "thank you abu...you are the best!" she said as she moved forward to hug him. He smiled as he patted her head. "kohi badmashi nahi zoya mujhe kuch shikayat nahi chahiye," he said. "nahi abu main acche se rahongi, I promise. Thank you abu," she said as she ran out of the room. "kya zaroorat thi usse jaane dene ki, kya kahenge sabh. Phele se iss ladki keh harkatoin se hum pareshaan hai aur aabh usse waha akele jaane denge so paata nahi kya hoga. Aise ladki se kohi shaadi nahi karna chahega keha dehte hoon main," she said angrily as she walked off leaving a thoughtful gaffur behind.

Chapter 28

The family reached home and soon Asad and Zoya joined them. Humaira wanted to go back home but Zoya insisted that she stay for the night. "Lekin Bhaji, Ammi Abu," Humaira said. "Come on Humi, kitne din hogaye hume saath mein bait kar theek se baat kare huwe, ek raat ki toh baat hai," Zoya said. Humaira wanted to stay but she knew her mother wouldn't be too happy. "Rukna toh main chathi hoon Bhaji lekin aap toh jaanti hai keh Ammi kaisi hai," Humaira said sadly. Zoya too became upset hearing about Razia and jut nodded. "Tumare Ammi se main baat karlongi," Dilshad, who was sitting on the dining table listening to their conversation told them. "Saach? Thanks Ammi!" Zoya said happily. Dilshad smiled and left to talk to Razia. "Lekin Bhaji, kal college bhi toh hai," Humaira said. "Toh kya hua? Tum aur haider ek hi college mein toh ho toh tum uske saath chali jaana," Zoya said. Hearing haider's name, Humaira shyly smiled. Zoya noticed that. "Tum aise kyun muskura rahi ho?" she asked. "Kuch nahi Bhaji, bas aise hi," Humaira said. Later, Zoya had the guest room cleaned and setup so Humaira could stay comfortably as Razia had agreed to let her stay for the night on Dilshad's request. Everyone freshened up and changed and came downstairs for dinner. Zoya was really happy that Humaira was staying at her house. It's been a long time since they had talked with each other or did something fun. Being in touch on the phone wasn't the same as living in the same house. Humaira saw the family together at dinner. She smiled how Zoya had settled so well into her new family. She was extremely happy for Zoya. She never had a true family before but now seeing everyone love and pamper her, brought tears to her eyes. She quickly wiped them away but missed to see a pair of eyes looking at her. After dinner, everyone retrieved to their rooms as they were tired. Zoya changed into her blue pajamas and was emptying the suitcases when an idea came to her. "Mr. Khan!" she called out to Asad who was on the bed with his laptop. "Ha Zoya," he said. "Mr. Khan, kya main aaj raat Humaira keh saath soh sakthi hoon...woh ek din kehliye yaha hai aur bahut din hogaye hume ek saath waqt bitaye huwe," she explained. Asad at first didn't want to let her go. He was so used to having her around. Seeing her sleep in front of him made him feel peaceful inside. But, he knew that she has to miss her sister. "Zaroor Zoya, jaisa tum chaho," he said. "Thanks Mr. Khan!" she said joyfully. Zoya decided that she would empty the suitcase then go to Humaira's room.

Humaira had changed into a simple pink salwar kameez and was fixing her bed when she heard a knock on her door. She went ahead and opened it. "Haider tum?" she said surprised. "Actually woh dining table par kuch upset lagrahi thi toh maine soocha keh tumse pooch lo," he said. Humaira was surprised that he had noticed that she was upset. She smiled and let him in. "woh actually Bhaji koh yaha sabh keh saath dekha toh khushi mein aansoo aagaye. Ammi ne Bhaji koh hamesha pareshaan kiya hai. Lekin aaj tum sabh keh saath unne dekha toh aisa laaga keh woh unke sahi parivaar keh paas aagayi hai," Humaira said with a slight smile. "Can I ask you something?" Haider asked. Humaira nodded a yes and he continued, "Tumari Ammi bhabhi koh pasand kyun nahi karti? I mean woh itni acchi hai," he asked her. "Main saach mein nahi jaanti thi. Bachpan se hi Ammi ne Bhaji koh khabhi apni beti nahi maana. Aur waqt keh saath baat bigad thi gayi. Maine Bhaji koh ek ma keh pyaar kehliye hamesha intezaar karte dekha hai, I am so happy keh Allah ne unne Dilshad aunty jaise ek ma deh diya," she said. Haider smiled. "Allah joh bhi karta hai accha hi hota hai Humaira. You know jab se bhabhi aayi hai humare ghar ka rang hi jaise badal gaya hai, especially Bhai. I am so happy for them," he told her. "I know Bhaji and Bhaijaan make such a cute couple," Humaira squealed. Haider looked at her. She had a huge grin on her lips and the way she clapped her hands together in excitement. The glow in her eyes made him go weak on the knees. He has always taken Humaira as a friend but from the past 2 days, he felt this strange pull towards her. She was always on his mind, in his thoughts. They were both lost in each other's eyes when Zoya interrupted them. "Haider...tum yaha? Iss waqt?" Zoya asked curiously. "Woh actually main...bhabhi," Haider hesistated. Zoya giggled, "Yeh woh actually main family problem hai kya," she said. Humaira too let out a chuckle hearing that. "Woh Bhaji, Haider koh kuch poochna tha ek class keh baare mein," she said to Zoya. "Yeah. Kal baat karte hai, good night!" Haider said and left. "Guess what? Main aaj tumare saath yaha sohungi," Zoya said excitedly. "Saach?" Humaira said as she pulled Zoya into a hug. "Yup," Zoya said. "Are you sure Bhaijaan aapko miss nahi karengi?" Humaira teased. "Ek toh main tumare saath time bitane kehliye aayi hoon aur tum mujhe thaang karahi ho," Zoya said slapping Humaira's shoulder. "Accha baba...sorry," Humaira said holding her ears. Zoya smiled. The sisters got on the bed and talked about random things from college, work, Asad, and everything in between. "You know Bhaji, main Allah se sirf yeh dua karti hoon keh aap hamesha aise hi khush rahe," Humaira said, caressing her sister's cheek with love. Zoya grinned. "Thanks Humi. Tume paata hai yaha sabh hai phir bhi paata nahi kyun aisa lagtha hai keh kuch kami hai," she said. "Kyun Bhaji? Aapke aur Bhaijaan keh beech sabh theek toh haina?" Humaira said worried. "Ha ha Humi, sabh theek hai. Bas paata nahi kyun kuch hokar bhi na hai, aisa ehsaas hota hai," Zoya said. She couldn't describe what she felt. It was like something was missing though everything was fine. But what? Why did she feel this way? She thought. They had both missed doing this. Several hours later, they both were tired and hit the bed for the night.

The next morning everyone left to their respective destinations. Asad had to leave early for a meeting so he told Zoya to take her car. Zoya informed usman and naseem khala to give Dilshad only low sodium foods and to take care of her. She took her things and left for work. On her way to the school, Zoya texted Haider, Najma, and Humaira and told them to meet her at the school. They all agreed knowing her reason. She called Dilshad. "As-salamalaikum Ammi," Zoya greeted. "Walaikum salaam, ha Zoya bolo," Dilshad answered. "Ammi aapne dawayi leyli na?" she asked. "Ha Zoya, main bacchi thodi na hoon keh tum mujhe poochte rehti ho," Dilshad said. "Mujhe aapse baar baar pooch issliye padtha hai kyunki aap apna bilkul khayal nahi rakti," Zoya told her. "Ammi...maine kuch soocha hai," Zoya said and told her what her plan was for that night. "Yeh toh bahut hi acchi baat hai. Lekin tum usse ghar aane se kaise rukogi?" Dilshad asked. "Paata nahi Ammi, mujhe aapki help chahiye," Zoya said. Dilshad thought for couple minutes, "theek hai, main dekh longi, tum log tyaari karo," Dilshad said. "Thank you Ammi, you are the best!" Zoya said as Dilshad chuckled. "Ok Ammi, main school pauchgayi hoon, main aapse baad mein baat karti hoon. Allah-hafiz!" Zoya informed. "Theek hai beta, apna khayal rakna, Allah-hafiz," Dilshad said as she ended the call. Zoya couldn't wait for tonight. She was excited. It was Asad's first birthday after their nikaah. From what she has heard, he doesn't celebrate his birthdays. How typical Mr. Khan! She thought. But she had to change that now, didn't she! She thought as she giggled to herself as she headed inside to her classroom. After school, Zoya and her three musketeers (Najma, Humaira, and Haider) met her at the nearby coffee shop. Zoya told them about what needs to be done for Asad's party and they all split up the responsibilities. Haider and Humaira were in charge of the decorations. Najma was going to contact the caterers and Zoya told her all of Asad's favorites to order. Zoya was going to contact Dilshad and invite everyone as well as head to the mall to pick up a gift for her Mr. Khan. After talking to Dilshad, Zoya called and invited some close relatives and some of Asad's friends. She then told Shyam, her driver, to take her to the mall. After going through a couple stores, as she was walking through, her eyes fell on a watch on one of the windows. Zoya remembered how Asad's watch strap has broken just recently. She smiled, happy to have found his gift. Everyone did their part and returned home to decorate and setup. Dilshad informed them that he had told Asad to go get her reports from the hospital. She has called the doctor and told her to delay it. The doctor was a family friend and knew Dilshad well. When Dilshad had told her the reason, the doctor had gladly agreed. Soon, everyone reached home except Asad and started helping Zoya. It was 11:30 at night when Dilshad called Asad to check on his location. "Asad, kya ho beta, itni dher hogayi," Dilshad said. "Nikal gaya hoon Ammi, bas aade ghante mein pauch jaunga," he informed. "Theek hai beta," Dilshad said. "Accha, sabh hogaya hai, aabh chalo hum sabh ready hojate hai," Zoya told everyone and they all headed to their rooms.

Asad pulled into the driveway to see the house was completely dark. He was surprised. Even if they lost electricity, they had backup generators that should have turned on. He parked the car and grabbed his office bag and Dilshad's file and walked towards the house. He went to the door and tried to open it but it was locked. He was about to ring the bell when the door opened. It was extremely dark inside too. "Zoya...Ammi," he called out. In response, the lights turned on and "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" screamed everyone. His beautiful wife stood in the middle of the hall dressed in a black sari. Her hair was curled and pinned to one side and she was wearing her famous dimpled smile on her lips, which looked dazzling. Black stoned earrings adorned her ears and she was wearing the pendant from their jashan e bahaar. Zoya held a cupcake in her hand with one candle on it. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you," she sang along with everyone as she walked towards him with a smile on her lips. "Happy birthday Mr. Khan!" she said as she reached him at the door. Asad was shocked. What was his family thinking? He didn't celebrate his birthdays but looking at Zoya, he knew that it had to be her idea. "I don't celebrate my birthday," he whispered leaning in close to her. "Main toh karsakthi hoon, mujhe birthdays celebrate karna bahut accha lagtha hai, come on blow the candle," Zoya said excitedly. Asad pinched the bridge of his nose, "Zoya," he said. "Mr. Khan!" she retorted in the same tone. "Aapne mujhe apna dost kaha tha Mr. Khan aur agar dosti ki hai toh nibhana toh padega," she said. "Yeh toh kohi film ka dialogue haina," Asad said. "Mere dialogues hamesha original hote hai, unn logo ne shayad mujhse choraya hoga," she said dramatically. He just chuckled at her words. "Oh come on yaar Asad, phook deh candle koh," one of Asad's friends yelled from the coward. His focus shifted from her towards the rest of the room. He was surprised to see his relatives and friends that he hardly talked to anymore. He sighed as he blew the candle. Everyone cheered. "Chaliye Mr. Khan, everyone's waiting," she told him. "Tumne kiya haina yeh sabh?" he asked. "Of course!" she beamed. He smirked, "unbelievable!" he muttered to himself. She just smiled and wrapped her arm around his as she pulled him toward the coward. Asad was amazed that Zoya has invited some of his old college friends. At first, he was apprehensive to meet them but once they started talking, Asad felt like life has just taken a drive back 5 years. Asad kept catching glimpse of Zoya as she moved from talking to family, relatives, and friends. Soon, it was time for Asad to cut the cake. He stood at the table and in front was his favorite black forest cake with "happy birthday Mr. Khan," inscribed on it. Zoya handed him a knife and motioned him to cut the cake. "Make a wish!" she whispered. He smiled at her and blew the candles wishing that his each day started with seeing her devotedly in prayer and it ended with her peacefully sleeping face. Everyone cheered as he cut the cake. He took the piece and offered it to Dilshad. "Isski pheli haqdar Zoya hai, usne hi kiya hai yeh sabh," she said to Asad. "Lekin Ammi, aap baadi hai," Zoya said. "Lekin joh main nahi kar paayi woh tumne kiya," Dilshad said as she lovingly caressed Zoya's cheek. Asad smiled at the two important ladies in his life. He offered the cake to Zoya and she took a small bite. Asad then fed the other family members starting with Dilshad. Zoya cut a small piece and fed it to him. Later, everyone enjoyed dinner. Asad was astonished the 3rd time that night when he saw the menu consisted of all his favorite dishes.

He was surprised that she had remembered everything about him, from his favorite cake to his favorite foods. He looked at her, lost in his own world. "Mr. Khan," Zoya said waving her hand in front of him. "Itna mat soochiye, khana khayiye, I promise yeh sabh bahut acche se aur saaf tarike se bana hai," she told him very seriously. He chuckled understanding her sarcasm. Everyone along with Asad enjoyed the food. After dinner, Zoya took Asad aside. She took out a small box covered in purple gift wrap, "aap kehliye," she said. Asad took the box and opened it seeing the anticipation in Zoya's eyes. He found a small box inside the wrapping. Unlocking the box revealed a lovely watch. It was silver color with a blue colored dial. "Aapko pasand aayi?" Zoya asked unsure. "Bahut acchi hai," he told her. "Saach? Shukur hai Allah ka. Paata hai mujhe bahut dar lagraha tha keh aapko yeh sabh accha lagega ya nahi par aabh main bahut khush hoon," she told him showing her dimpled smile. Just then, she heard Dilshad calling for her. "Ammi bhula rahi hai, main aati hoon," Zoya said. She turned around to leave when she felt his hand stopping her. "Tum joh bhi karo, paata nahi kyun mujhe accha lagtha hai," he thought to himself. He turned her around to face him, "mujhe aise sabh se baat karke aur sabh keh saath rehakar kitne saal hogaye, aaj tumari wajase main dil se hasa hoon, thank you Zoya. Thank you for everything," he told her. Zoya was happy to see him coming out of his shell. He was sharing his feeling with her which meant a lot to her. Asad pulled her closer tugging at her wrist which he still held. He leaned in and Zoya felt her breath stuck in her throat. She closed her eyes as his lips touched her skin. She closed her hands into a fist clutching his shirt in it, unknowingly. "Thanks," he whispered again. He moved back and realized that she was holding his shirt. He smirked seeing her reaction. "Agar tum chathi hoon toh hum aise hi reha sakthe hai," he teased. Zoya's eyes shot open and she let go off his shirt. "Mr. Khan kya aap sabh koh aise hi thanks kehte hai?" she asked composing herself, as she touched her cheek where his lips were just moments ago. "Sirf unne jisse main dil se aapna maanta hoon," he told her as he winked at her. Zoya's jaw dropped hearing his words. Was Mr. Khan teasing her? she thought. Asad placed his finger at the tip of chin, "makhi chale jayegi," he told her closing her mouth. He smirked and walked away leaving a stunned Zoya behind.

The party had ended a bit ago and Dilshad and Rashid were in their room. Rashid walked out of the bathroom changed in a white kurta pajama and Dilshad was on the bed folding her clothes. "Aaj party bahut acchi thi na," Rashid said. "Ha Rashid, Asad koh itne dino baad itna khush dekha aur sabh se ghul milte huwe dekha, aabh meri saari fikar door hogayi hai," Dilshad said happily. Rashid sat next to her, "ha Dilshad, aaj ek badla hua Asad dekha mujhe," he said. "Yeh sabh Zoya ki wajase hai. Maine kaha tha na keh Asad keh zindagi mein ek acchi ladki aajayegi toh woh aage badh saktha hai," Dilshad said. "Aur usse Zoya se acchi biwi nahi mil sakthi," Rashid said. "Sahi kaha aapne, Allah ka lakh lakh shukur hai keh usne humari dua qubool karli," Dilshad said happily as Rashid pulled her into a side hug. "Rashid...main sooch rahi thi keh kyun na hum iss jhume koh quran khani rakhe? Kitne din hogaye," Dilshad said. "Yeh toh bahut accha khayal hai, hume zaroor rakna chahiye," Rashid said. "Theek hai toh main kal hi sabh koh baata dungi aur phone karke sabh koh baata dungi," Dilshad said. Rashid was glad that Dilshad was not worried about Asad anymore and that Zoya had bought a new version of his son back into their lives. Since the incident three years ago, Dilshad has really been depressed about the whole situation. She partly blamed herself for bringing tanveer into Asad's life. Yes, she was his friend but it has been Dilshad that had thought about getting the two of them married. After the incident, she had lost her son. She has tried so many times to tell him that he was not at fault but she knew that he blamed himself. He blamed himself for letting tanveer take advantage of his trust and emotions. He also blamed himself for the shame that had bought to the family. Today, she felt a huge burden come off her chest. She was extremely happy that Zoya has done what she hadn't been able to. Now, she just prayed that Asad confessed his feelings down and made Zoya truly apart of his life.

It was the day before the quran khani was supposed to be held. Zoya was finished with school and decided to buy some of the things needed for the quran khani. She told shyam to take her to the mall. On the other hand, Asad was in his office when something on the television caught his attention. "Breaking News!" it flashed. "Multiple vehicle crash on highway 32 in Bhopal," the lines underneath the flash stated. The only thing that Asad could hear was that a black 2014 Mercedes was involved in the crash. This was the route that Zoya took to school. He saw the time, it was probably now that she was heading back home. What if? No!!!!!!! he thought. Grabbing his phone and car keys, he rushed out of the office. Asad kept trying Zoya's phone but it was turned off. He drove to the school and was informed that Zoya had left. Asad felt his heart sink. Where was she? His forehead formed water droplets but he wasn't going to let scare take over him. she will be ok, he thought. He called the commissioner for information but nothing concrete could be obtained. All he knew was that there was a crash involving a semi-truck and four cars, one of which was a 2014 Mercedes. The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment and there were even two deaths. "Wait...agar Zoya ghar chali gayi hogi toh. Dammit! Maine soocha kyun nahi," Asad said to himself. He dialed home but the phone was busy. He rushed home and barged inside, "Zoya! Zoya! Ammi!" he yelled. Dilshad walked out of the kitchen, "Asad tum itni jaldi ghar? Sabh theek toh haina?" she asked concerned. Nikhat too followed her and joined them. "Ammi, Zoya ghar aayi ka?" he asked. "Nahi abhi tak toh nahi, kya hua Asad? Itne pareshaan kyun ho?" Dilshad inquired. "Ammi, woh Zoya...uska phone bhi nahi lagraha hai. Aur highway pe accident. Sabh jaaka doond raha hoon usse," Asad said as Dilshad and Nikhat looked at him shocked. "Kya? Accident?" Dilshad said. "Ammi aap chinta mat kijiye, Zoya theek hogi," Nikhat said trying to comfort Dilshad. "Tum school pe dekha shayad woh wahi hai," Nikhat told him. "I did. Sabh jaaga dekha sirf hospital baaki hai. Main...main waha jaake dekhta hoon," Asad blurted out. "Main bhi tumare saath chalthi hoon," Dilshad said. "Nahi Ammi, aap yehi rahiye. Main jaata hoon," Asad said as he looked at Nikhat. "Ha Ammi, Asad theek kehraha hai. Main rukti hoon aap keh saath," Nikhat said telling Asad silently to leave. Asad ran his hand through his hair. He didn't know what to do. Every time he thought about what could possible happen, he felt his heart sinked in a deep dark hole. But he had to go find her. He just had to! He took a deep breath and started to leave.

As Asad was about to leave, his eyes fell on her. His heart breathed a sense of relief. She was alright, he thought. "Ammi...dekhiye na main...," Zoya said but stopped seeing everyone tensed. "Mr. Khan aap? Sabh theek toh haina?" she asked. Dilshad and Nikhat walked up to her and Dilshad pulled her into a hug. "Allah ka shukur hai keh tum theek ho," she said almost on the verge of tears. "Ammi, kya hua? Aap aise," Zoya said worried, as she pulled out of the hug. Zoya turned to Asad, "Mr. Khan kya hua? Sabh theek toh haina?" she asked on hearing no response from Dilshad. Asad felt anger boil through his veins. He had been going crazy from the past two hours searching for her and here she was asking him whats wrong. He wanted to yell, scream but he slammed his hand on the glass table. Zoya covered her ears to prevent the noise of breaking glass as the vases from the table fell to the floor. Zoya looked at him confused and scared. Asad left the living room and soared up the stairs. "Ammi," Zoya said questioning Dilshad about his actions. "Woh pareshaan hai beta, bas issliye aisa kargaya," Dilshad comforted her. "Tum yeh sabh mujhe dehdo aur tum andar jao, Asad bahut gussa hai," Nikhat told her as she took the shopping bags from the floor. "Par bhabhi, main...," Zoya tried when Dilshad intervened, "ha beta Nikhat theek kehrahi hai. Tum Asad se baat karlo uska gussa shant hojayega," she told Zoya. Zoya nodded and left from there. "Par Mr. Khan mujhse naraaz kyun hai? Maine kiya kya hai?" she mumbled to herself. As she walked up the stairs, "yeh Mr. Khan bhi na bina kohi waja keh gussa hojate hai. At least mujhe baata na toh hota na keh naraaz kyun hai. Ya Allah yeh Mr. Khan na akdu toh akdu hi rahenge," she thought. She stood at the door contemplating what to say. She didn't even know what she did wrong so what was she supposed to explain. "Allah miyan, please meri help kijiye," she prayed as she entered the room.

What will happen? Will Asad make Zoya mad again? Will Zoya forgive him this time? Keep reading to find out! Thanks for your patience and the awesome comments...love you all 🤗

Chapter 24

The evening breeze blew her hair across her face and she struggled with her hands to keep the tresses behind her ear. The smell of salt water and semi-wet sand ran through her nose. The glowing moon and stars shined on her skin, making her look dazzling. She moved her hair away and tucked it behind her ears, as she continued to speak. "Aur aap jaante hai Mr. Khan, Rashi ne aaj Akshat koh dakka dehdiya, it was crazy. Phir itna drama hua, don't ask. Parents koh bhulana paada phir principal se baat karni thi, issliye itna late hogaya," Zoya explained. "Its fine, I understand," he told her with his hands in his pant pockets as he walked beside her. "I know but aap koh meri wajase wait karna paada," she said, guilty. He shrugged, telling her it wasn't a big deal. She had bought him to the beach a couple weeks ago and since then; they came here often when he picked her up after work, at least once a week. Though, he didn't like to go into the sand because he thought it was dirty with everyone walking in it with their untidy feet. They walked by the road near the beach but he liked it. Not because, he was at the beach but because he was with her. He watched her speak about her day, her kids. It was strange to call them her kids, but they definitely were with the way Zoya treated and talked about them. Zoya, on the other hand, loved talking to him about her day. It was something that bought them closer. They spent time together, talking. Well, she did the talking and he listened. Sometimes, she wished that he would speak more often. She wished that he would tell her may be how his day went, maybe about the projects he was working on, about something. She didn't care how boring it was; she just wanted him to tell her how he felt about what was happening in his life. She thought a lot about what Humaira had said the other day. She didn't find any answers in her heart or from Allah miyan. But, she missed one thing. Him telling her how he really felt. She sighed! May be it was too soon to expect him to tell her everything. Asad turned to see the emotions play through her face. She seemed lost in thoughts, the smile was replaced with confusion and worry. "Kya hua Zoya? Sabh theek?" he asked. "Ha Mr. Khan, sabh theek hai," Zoya said as she intertwined her hand with his. She was happy with what they had. It was something special, something unique. Whatever it was, it was a bond they shared.

Asad felt his heart flutter at her touch. His lips curved into a smile. He was getting used to her chatter. Usually, he hated when someone spoke so much but her, every word she spoke was a revelation for who she was. Zoya was someone who was innocent, kind hearted, honest, and he had started to trust her with his life. He was ready to put his past behind him and accept what destiny had bought into his life. Suddenly, Zoya's eyes fell on something behind Asad. "Ice cream!" she exclaimed. Asad came out of his thoughts and turned to see an ice cream stall. "Zoya...tum, hum yeh nahi ley rahe hai," he said. "uh oh Mr. Khan, chaliye na please. I want to eat cornetto," she said as she dragged him towards the vendor, ignoring Asad's protests. "Bhaiya...doh chocolate cornetto dehna please," she said. Asad was about to say something, "I know Mr. Khan...aap nahi kahenge, they are both for me," Zoya stated. Asad looked at her surprised. "Tum dono kahogi?" he asked her. "of course," she said as she took the cones from the vendor. Asad chuckled as he paid the vendor and they started walking again. He watched her eat one bite from each one. "Pagal," he thought. She looked absolutely adorable as she ate the dessert. By the time Zoya finished her cones, they were back at the car. Zoya was about to open the door when she felt Asad's hand on top of hers. The door handle slipped from her fingers and the door closed shut. She turned around and suddenly felt cornered. Behind her was the car and infornt of her was her husband. He was so close that she could feel his breath on her cheeks. His eyes had this intense sensation that she had never seen before. Up close, she could smell his perfume that drove her crazy. She could also she could see his ruffled hair that gave him a boyish charm that made her heart skip a beat. "Mr. Khan...aap...aap," she said as she struggled to form words. "Tum ice cream khud karahi thi ya apne naak koh khilarahi thi," he teased as he wiped the ice cream off her nose. Zoya touched her nose and chuckled. "Thanks," she said. He moved back and she let out the breath that she has been holding from the past minute. Asad smirked as she quickly got into the car. He too got inside and they drove back home.

The next afternoon, Asad sat in his office looking at the invitation for the new year's party that was in a couple days. It was from one of his colleagues and business associates. Asad wasn't a big enthusiast about going to parties but business parties were part of the job. He had to go but it was a couple's party. He thought to ask Zoya but how. Just ask Asad, it's not that hard, his mind scolded. But, will she say yes? He wondered. Do you want her to say yes, his heart retorted. He took the invitation and left for home. Asad walked into the room to see it empty. He heard someone inside the closet and figured that she must be inside. A while later, he saw her walk into the room dressed in a simple black salwar and white kurta with embroidery, holding some papers for school. Seeing him walk in, "aap aagaye Mr. Khan, how was your day?" Zoya asked looking at him. "Accha tha," he replied. She smiled at his usual reply. Does he ever have a bad day? Or a great day? It is always a good day, she told herself. "Aap kuch lenge? Coffee?" she offered. "nahi Zoya, not today," Asad said. "Kyun Mr. Khan meri coffee se bore hogaye kya?" Zoya teased as Asad just smirked knowing she was joking. Zoya went to take a seat on the bed and started going through the papers. Asad left to change. He took a hot shower and returned a bit later, dressed in a black kurta pajama. As he walked into the room, Asad saw her putting the papers away in her bag. "Zoya, mujhe tumse kuch baat karna hai," Asad said. "ha Mr. Khan boliye?" Zoya asked. "Woh actually...woh...!" Asad hesitated. "Mr. Khan kya aap sabh se aise hi baat karte hai...boliye na Mr. Khan," she said. Asad pinched the bridge of his nose. "Actually hume new year's party par invite kiya hai toh main sooch raha tha keh hum dono jaaye...aap mere saath chalengi?" he asked. Zoya smiled. This was the first time he was asking her for something. Well he was inviting her somewhere but still that counts, she thought as her heart did a happy dance. "Of course Mr. Khan, mujhe bahut khushi hogi," Zoya said. Asad was extremely happy that she had agreed. "Theme is red and black," he told her and she nodded. "chale Mr. Khan, dinner ready hogaya hoga. Ammi intezaar karahi hongi," Zoya informed and they both headed downstairs for dinner.

The next day Zoya was returning with Shyam when she thought about buying something for Asad. "Mr. Khan ne mujhe party kehliye invite kiya hai toh mujhe unn kehliye kuch leyna chahiye. Par kya? Party ka theme toh red and black hai aur Mr. Khan keh paas toh bahut saara black hai," she said to herself. "Lekin unn keh paas red toh nahi hai," she said teasingly. "Shyam Bhaiya, please mall ley chaliye," she told the driver. About thirty minutes later, Shyam pulled into the mall parking lot as told. Zoya roamed through the mall trying to find something that her husband would like but she couldn't find anything she liked. "Mr. Khan kehliye red shirt ley leti hoon," she decided. But the next minute, her face fell. "Mr. Khan...khabhi red nahi pehenge," she thought. And you know na keh woh kya bolenge, "Zoya tume kya lagtha hai keh main red pehenuga, mera favorite color toh black hai a phir white," Zoya mimicked Asad as she scanned the red shirt. Then, she bought him a red colored tie and handkerchief, hoping that he would wear it. That evening, she waited impatiently for Asad to return. Seeing him enter the room, her lips broke into a grin. "Aap aagaye Mr. Khan, mere paas aap kehliye kuch hai," she said jumping off the bed and running to the closet. Asad looked at her surprised. What has she gotten him, he wondered. She ran back into the room, almost slipping. "Zoya, samal keh," he yelled as he rushed to hold her. His arms went around her waist as he steadied her. "main theek hoon," she said smilingly. "Aise kya hai keh tum itni excited ho?" he asked. "Yeh aap kehliye," Zoya said as she held out of a small silver color bag for him. Asad placed his coat on the bed and took the bag from her. She had her fingers crossed behind her, waiting to see his reaction. He pulled out a small package and opened it. He looked at the red tie and handkey and looked up at her. "Woh maine soocha keh aap party mein pehen sakthe hai," she told him unsure of his reaction. Asad was surprised that she had chosen the color red for him, for him? He hardly ever wore color and even if he did, it was neutral and pastels, never bright. "Aap pehenge na?" she asked hopefully. He looked at her eyes, which shined with a glint of hope and plead. "Of course," he said. Her fingers uncrossed and she clapped with joy. "Thank you Mr. Khan," she said happily. "Par achanak yeh kyun?" he asked. She shrugged her shoulders, "woh aap hamesha mujhe kuch na kuch dehte hai, mujhe itne mauke nahi milte. Aur aapne mujhe party kehliye invite kiya toh maine soocha keh aap kehliye kuch lao, as a thanks," Zoya told him honestly. Her frank reply filled his heart with delight. That was his Zoya, always honest, he thought. "Thanks for the gift but tume mere saath kahi jaane kehliye thanks bolne ki zaroorat nahi hai, yeh tumara haq hai," he said. Zoya lips played a smile listening to his words.

On Zoya's suggestion, she has gathered courage to ask him to help her study. She was waiting for him to arrive for their first tutoring session when her thoughts drifted back to that day. She had met him in the hallway and they have gone to the canteen for a cup of coffee. Sipping her coffee, "mujhe tumse ek favor maang na tha," she said. "ha bolo na?" Haider asked unsure. "Woh actually mujhe ek class mein tumari help chahiye, kya tum meri help karoge please?" she asked pleadingly. Haider started to laugh. "hello? Whats funny?" she asked. "hum ek dusre koh at least about four months se jaante hai aur tum mujhe yeh saaf saaf nahi keha sakthi thi," Haider said. "Shut up!" she said as he laughed again. "Aur ha tum mujhe help karahe ho bas!" she ordered. "Yehi huwi na dost wali baat," he told her. Her smile faded a little. She had realized that she has started to like him more than a friend. But she was scared to tell him. She was scared that if he didn't feel the same way then she would lose him as a friend too. Most of all, she was scared how her family would react. When she had wanted to study, they had blatantly refused saying there was no need. It was because of Zoya and her determination that they had finally agreed. But there were rules! She couldn't talk to boys. She couldn't even have girlfriends because her parents didn't trust them. She sometimes broke their rules. It wasn't like she didn't love them but sometimes, their view of life wasn't really what she felt like. She didn't argue like Zoya because she wasn't as courageous as she was. The only reason they were accepting of her talking to Haider was because he was Asad's brother. "hey!" he said taking a seat in front of her and breaking her thoughts. "hi," she said with a smile. "Toh batao kya help chahiye?" he asked. "Yeh sabh mein," she said placing a huge book on business administration on the table. "So let's get started," he said. They spent hours studying in the library. The way he made her laugh with his weird ways of remembering equations. He would come up with an acronym to help remember different laws and equations. She noticed how he would scrunch his temples when he was tensed about a problem or trying to recall something. As he was helping her, sometimes his hand would brush up against hers. Or he would hover over her a little too close when trying to explain a concept. Each time, she felt her throat clog up and she would forget to breathe. She would have to try really hard not blush but her heart didn't listen to what her mind had to say.

Few days passed and it was the day of the party. Zoya had told Dilshad about the party and Dilshad had suggested that she wear a sari. Zoya at first refused saying that she wouldn't be able to handle a sari, she had never worn one before. "oh come on Bhabhi, Bhaijaan honge na aap ko samaal ne kehliye," Najma teased. "stop it Najma. Zoya sari pehena itna mushkil bhi nahi hai. main tumari madad karongi," Nikhat suggested. "Lekin Bhabhi puri party mein kaise samalongi," Zoya worried. "Tumse hojayega Zoya," Dilshad said. "Maan jayiye Bhabhi, after all aap pheli baar Bhai keh saath date pe jarahi hai," Najma said. "What? Date? Aisa kuch nahi hai," Zoya told her. "Date hi toh huwi na Bhabhi, aap pheli baar Bhai keh saath shaadi keh baad ek party mein jarahi hai," Najma explained. Seeing Zoya's tense face, "Najma tum na chup raho, Zoya aisa kuch nahi beta. Tum fikar na karo, jao party kehliye ready hojao," Dilshad comforted her. Zoya agreed and left from there. As Zoya left, Dilshad caught Najma's ears. "ouch Ammi, kya karahi hai?" she cried. "Kya sabh Zoya keh saamne bolna zaroori hai," Dilshad said. "Saach hi tha Ammi," Najma said. Dilshad chuckled at her daughter. Najma has always been a blabber mouth. Since she was a kid, she said what came to mind without thinking. That hasn't changed even after she grew up. She looked at Nikhat, "Najma, hum sabh jaante hai keh Asad aur Zoya ek dusre koh pasand karne laage hai lekin yeh baat hum jaante hai, Asad aur Zoya nahi!" Nikhat explained. "ohhh I get it," Najma said as the ladies laughed. "Aabh Allah se yehi dua hai keh inn dono koh bhi woh dikh jaye joh hume dikh raha hai," Dilshad prayed for Asad and Zoya. Hours later, it was time to leave for the party. Asad was waiting in the living room looking handsome dressed in a black suit paired with a black shirt and a red tie. He looked at the clock waiting impatiently as the clock on his wrist tick by. As he was waiting, he heard a jingle from the stairs. He turned around and felt his heart stop. Looking elegantly gorgeous, his wife was walking down the stairs, dressed in a red sari. Her hair was pulled in a loose bun on the side with her bangs swept to one side. She had added matching diamond earrings and the pendant he had gifted her. She always looked beautiful but a sari did wonders to her curvy body. It hugged her in all the right places making her look even lovelier. She smiled at him nervously. Zoya was worried about handling a sari all night as she had never wore one before. He put his hand out, "chale?" he asked. Seeing him made her feel better. She noticed the tie, he wore it...he wore it, her heart danced in joy. She nodded placing her hand in his. Everyone cheered as Zoya blushed and Asad glared at them. They walked out together. Coming to the car, he opened the front passenger door for her first. After she settled into the seat, he closed the door and came to the driver's seat.

Reaching the party, Asad helped her out of the car. As they walking in the parking lot, Zoya almost tripped. His one hand went around her shoulder and the other held her hand to prevent her from falling. "Samal kar Zoya, tum theek toh hona?" he asked. Zoya fixed her pallu and looked up at him. "Main theek hoon," she said nervously. "Really?" Asad checked. "Woh actually, maine pheli baar sari peheni hai toh thodi problem horahi hai samaal ne mein," Zoya told him with a pout. Asad chuckled at her innocent, sulking face. Zoya glared at him. "Sorry," he apologized. "Agar tume sari pehena nahi aata toh kuch aur pehen leyna tha na," Asad suggested. "Woh toh Ammi bol rahi thi keh main bahut acchi lagongi aur phir Najma bhi keha rahi thi keh humari pheli date hai...," Zoya stopped realizing what she had blurted out. "Date?" Asad said in a teasing tone. "Nahi aisa main nahi, woh toh tamatar bol rahi thi," Zoya defended. Asad just smirked at her and nodded. He loved when she revealed something then realized that she was in trouble. Because when she had this child like pout and her cheeks turn this slight red with embarrassment, his heart raced looking at her. He took her hand in his and pulled her closer. "Don't worry, main tume ghirne nahi dunga. I promise," Asad said. Hearing him promise her, her heart told her that she had nothing to worry about. That she was safe with him. He would never let any harm come to her. "Main jaanti hoon," she said, looking into his chocolate brown orbitals. Asad felt his heart dance in joy listening to her words. "Chale?" he asked. She nodded and they proceeded inside.

They entered the hall holding each other's hands. Zoya felt a sense of security when her hand was in his. She felt like everything was fine, like it was perfect. Everyone at the party gushed over the new couple that had walked in. Girls were jealous of Zoya who was beside the hottie. Guys on the other hand wanted to know who the beauty was that has just walked in. But, any eye that even looked in her direction, was reflected with the famous Asad Ahmed Khan's glare. Asad introduced her to his business associates and friends. Zoya mingled with everyone and she even remembered some people from the reception party. Throughout the party, Asad kept stealing glances at her. The way she was talking to everyone, the way she laughed, the way she walked...everything was perfect. She was perfect for him. Zoya was talking to a group of ladies when she excused herself to go the washroom. As she was walking back to join everyone, someone blocked her way. "Excuse me," Zoya said as she tried to walk away from there. He placed his on the wall blocking her way. "Just one drink?" he offered. "No thank you, please mera raasta chodiye," Zoya said. She could clearly see that he was intoxicated. She tried to leave but he got hold of her wrist. "Dekhiye aap batameezi karahe hai, chodiye," Zoya said struggling to remove her hand. He suddenly let go, "Theek hai, hum aap ka haath chodenge, lekin tume mere saath dance karna padega," he flirted. "Dekhiye please mera raasta chodijiye," Zoya pleaded. "Meri dance partner bane kehliye ha keha doh phir chodunga," the guy said. "Aur agar inke paas already partner ho toh," someone said from behind them and the guy turned to see Asad. Zoya felt relieved seeing him. He walked up to them and stood in front of Zoya as if protecting her. "hey man...who are you?" the guy said. "I am her husband," Asad firmly stated. Zoya could the anger rise in Asad's face. His eyes turned red and his hands into fists as he moved forward. "Allah miyan, yeh toh usse maarne jarahe hai," Zoya thought as she quickly wrapped her hand around his arm and pulled him back. "Mr. Khan please yaha sabh hai. he is drunk! Just let it go please," she whispered. Asad turned to see her pleading face. He moved forward and grabbed the guy from his collar, "agar agli baar tume meri biwi ya kissi bhi ladki keh aas paas bhi dekha toh I will kill you," Asad told him angrily. The guy could see that Asad was dead serious. He backed off and walked away. "tum theek ho?" he asked, now facing her. "yeah Mr. Khan...thanks," she said. "Tume yaha akele nahi aana chahiye tha, you have to be more careful Zoya," he said still mad. "Mr. Khan...chodiye na. Sabh theek haina aur waise bhi main itni khoobsurat hoon toh iss mein uss ki kya galati hai," Zoya joked. "Tum har baat itni lightly kaise ley sakthi hoon. Tume thoda responsible hona chahiye Zoya," Asad told her. "Mr. Khan chodiye yeh sabh, chaliye aap ne mujhe ek dance promise kiya hai," Zoya said. "Maine kabh promise kiya?" Asad asked confused. "Abhi toh aapne kaha keh aap mere dance partner hai toh chaliye Mr. Khan, it's time to dance!" Zoya said as she wrapped her hand around his again and dragged him to the dance floor.

As the music started, his hands slid around her bare waist. This was the first time he was touching her skin. His touch shot blazers inside her body. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach as he pulled her closer to him. Zoya felt her heart race as she slowly raised her hands and placed them on his shoulders. They started to sway to the music...

Ishq ki dhooni roz jalaaye
Uthta dhuaan toh kaise chhupaaye
Ho akhiyaan kare jee hazoori [she looked into his eyes and could see something different. She saw emotions in his usual stern and aloof milk chocolate orbitals]
Maange hai teri manzoori
Kajra siyaahi, din rang jaaye
Teri kastoori rain jagaaye [She dazzled under the moonlight. The dim lightning made her skin glisten into a copper tone. He caressed her waist sending blasting emotions through her body]
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Bas tera naam dohraaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Tera naam dohraaye

[She closed her eyes and grabbed on to his neck tighter. What was happening to her? what was this that she felt sprinting through her veins? What was it that made her heart beat so fast that she felt like it was going to jump out of her chest? What was it that she was seeing in Asad's eyes that night?]

Chaahe bhi toh bhool na paaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Bas tera naam dohraaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan [Asad's feelings seem to run wild. The way her skin felt under his hand woke up hidden pleasures. He wanted to tell her what he felt though he didn't even know what he felt. What was it that he felt?]
Tera naam dohraaye

Jogiya jog lagake
Makhra rog lagaa ke
Ishq ki dhooni roz jalaaye
Uthta dhuaan toh kaise chhupaaye [She didn't have the answers to anything. But being in his arms felt right. She felt like she was in a place where she belonged.]
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Bas tera naam dohraaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Bas tera naam dohraaye [His hands slid even farther on her waist and were now touching her lower spine. Her hands now gripped on to his hair. They were so close that his nose touched her forehead. They just stayed in that position with their eyes closed]

Chaahe bhi toh bhool na paaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Bas tera naam dohraaye
Man mast magan, man mast magan
Tera naam.. bas tera naam dohraaye

Asad opened his eyes to see his wife still lost in their world. He smirked on the effect his touch had on her. If someone would have told him 3 years ago that he would feel this way for anyone, he would have laughed at them or even gotten angry. But, the feeling he now had in his heart, he had never experienced in his life. He remembered the first time he saw her at the dargah. The moments they have spent together flashed before his eyes. He wanted his each morning to start with seeing her in prayer. He wanted to have his black coffee the way she made it though he might not be the perfect way. He wanted to listen to her talk about her class and the kids every day before going to work. He wanted to be lost in her thoughts while she was at work. He wanted to return home to be greeted by her smile. He wanted to watch her mesmerizing face when he slept. He wanted it all. Realization dawned on him. The emotionally challenged Asad Ahmed Khan has been pushed into the pool of emotions by destiny. He had surprisingly and deeply fallen in love with his gorgeous wife.

Will Asad confess his feelings? Would Zoya feel the same way? What does the future hold for them? Keep reading to find out!

Chapter 21

Zoya went into the kitchen and warmed up dinner for Asad. She arranged his tray just as she had observed Dilshad do from the past 2 days and took it up to their room. She knocked and when she received no response, she opened the door and walked in. Placing the tray of food on the table, she searched for him but he was nowhere to be seen. She checked the bathroom and the closet but he wasn't there either. At that moment, she saw a note on the bed. She picked it up, "meet me by the back balcony," it read. Zoya was surprised on why Asad had called her to the balcony. She opened the balcony door and walked out. Just then, she felt small, droplets of water tingle against her skin. "Bubbles!" she squealed. A big grin was on her face as she started to play with them. Asad was standing behind her looking at the childish smile she had on her face. Deep in his heart, he felt a sense of peace seeing her beam. The whole day her tear stricken face had haunted him. As she was playing, she turned to see Asad. She immediately stopped and looked at him. She was shocked that he was the one who blowing the bubbles. "Mr. Khan...aap?" she said. "Surprise kaisa laaga?" he asked with a smirk. "I can't believe keh yeh aap ne kiya hai. Thank you Mr. Khan!" she said happily. "Aur Zoya mere paas tumare liye kuch aur bhi hai," he said as he handed her a bag. Zoya took the bag and quickly began to look through it. Asad chuckled at her behavior. The first thing she found was chocolates. She observed them and then looked up at him. "Woh kal raat kehliye, and thank you for this," he said apologizing for last night's behavior and thanking her for bandaging his hand. "You are welcome Mr. Khan!" Zoya said with a smile. Then she went back into bag and found a small plastic box. "Allah Miyan! Pani Puri!" Zoya said thrilled. She took one and placed it in her mouth, "hmmm!" she moaned in pleasure. "Mr. Khan, aap ne yeh laaya hai? lekin aap koh toh aise cheeze acchi nahi lagthi na?" she asked remembering the fact that he thought it was unhygienic. "yeh maine Bhopal royal se liya hai," Asad informed. Zoya's mouth went in "o" as she knew that it was one of the best restaurants in Bhopal. Zoya giggled and Asad looked at her questioningly. "aap phele insaan hai Mr. Khan jisne pani puri ek baadi hotel se liya hai," she told him. "but thank you," she added as she put one more puri in her mouth. Seeing Zoya moan in pleasure, Asad felt aroused in his senses again. He balled his hands in a fist cursing himself for his thoughts. Zoya unaware of his feelings offered him a pani puri. He refused, excused himself and left leaving a stunned Zoya behind.

Minutes later, Zoya walked into the room to see him changed in a white kurta pajama. She didn't really know what to say. His sudden disappearance from the balcony had confused her again. One minute he was blowing bubbles and giving her gifts and the next, he was upset without any reason and walked out leaving her alone. Asad felt torn! He couldn't understand what he wanted. His heart couldn't see her in pain. It killed him to see tears in her beautiful eyes. But, when his heart fluttered at the unknown feeling seeing her happy, he hated it. He hated being in this unknown sensation. Clearing his thoughts, he walked out of the closet to see her enter the room. "Khana thanda hogaya hoga, main phir se garam kardeti hoon," Zoya said. "Nahi its ok, aise hi theek hai," Asad said stopping her. He seemed aloof. As he ate his food, Zoya observed the feelings on his face. He was weird, she thought. How could he just have these completely contradictory feelings in a matter of minutes? She couldn't understand the reason for his behavior. "Ya Allah...kahi Mr. Khan bipolar toh nahi? Ya phir split personality ho?" she wondered. She hopped up on bed and took a seat. Zoya muched on the pani puri letting its crumbs fall all over the bed. Asad's OCD was becoming exacerbated. He pinched the bridge of his nose, "Zoya, aap yeh kya karahi hai?" he almost yelled. She looked at him confused and he motioned the mess on the bed with his eyes. Zoya felt scared. He was so particular about things being in their right place. "Meri nahi, puri ki galati hai. Aap jis bhi hotel se laaye hai usne puriya thodi badi bana di," she complained licking the liquid off her fingers. Asad's anger seem to disappear. Instead, her child like pout and the way she was savoring her fingers was dazzling him. Seeing Asad look at her, Zoya thought that Asad was mad. She quickly jumped off the bed and started to dust the crumbs off to the floor. Now, Asad was even more shocked. First, she ruined his comforter and now his carpet. His anger resurfaced! "Seriously Zoya, aise kohi clean karta hai kya?" he scolded. "You know what Mr. Khan, aap ko mere liye yeh laana hi nahi chahiye tha," she huffed placing the box in his hands and walked out of the room. Asad was enraged. How dare she? No one had dared spoken to Asad like that in his life. She had guts! He thought. "Wait a minute, woh mujhpe chila keh chali gayi aur main usski tareef karaha hoon," he mentally yelled at himself. He called for usman to have someone clean up the crumbs. Zoya sat under the night sky staring at the stars. "Theek naam raka hai maine, akdu! Agar inki room itni pyaari hai toh mujhe khane kyun diya waha. Mujhe nahi rehna hai unke saath, main kal hi," she stopped. Where would she go? She wasn't going home. Of course not after telling Razia that she would never return back. Tears filled her eyes and she looked up, "shayad agar aap yaha hote Ammi toh mujhe theek se sabh karna seeka the. Bachpan se har cheez khud seekni padina issliye shayad main cheeze kahi rak dehti hoon. Mujhe toh lagtha hai keh zindagi bahut choti hai iss sabh kehliye. Jitne pal tumare paas rahe uss mein apne parivaar keh saath bitana chahiye na ki yeh sabh ki fikar karte huwe," she thought out loud. She closed her eyes as tears rolled down her cheeks. She missed her mother. She wished she was here so she could place her head on her lap and cry her heart out. She wishes she was here to caress her cheek and tell her that she would be alright. That life would be alright. That everything would be fixed. "I miss you Ammi!" she whipered looking into the night sky.

Dilshad was going down to the kitchen to get some water when she saw Zoya sitting in the balcony swing. She was walking up to her to see what she was doing outside at this time of the night when she heard what she was saying. Hearing Zoya cry for her mom, broke Dilshad's heart. "Allah kissi bhi bacche koh aisi takleef na dehna," Dilshad prayed lovingly looking at Zoya. As she heard Zoya's last sentence, she walked closer. Zoya sensed somewhere coming close to her and quickly wiped her tears. She stood up and turned to see Dilshad looking at her. "Ammi...aap abhi sohi nahi?" Zoya asked trying to cover up her puffy eyes and feeble voice. "Tum bhi toh abhi sohi nahi, kya hua Zoya?" Dilshad said caressing her cheek. Zoya could see the sincere love and worry in her eyes. She wrapped her hands around Dilshad and started to sob. "Zoya, sabh theek toh haina? Asad ne kuch kaha? Kya hua beta?" Dilshad started to ask more questions. "I miss Ammi!" she whispered a few minutes later. Dilshad pulled Zoya closer consoling her with her actions. They pulled apart a few moments later and Dilshad made Zoya sit on the swing and sat next to her. "Zoya, main jaanti hoon keh Ammi Abu ki jaaga kohi nahi ley saktha. Lekin main tume apni beti maanti hoon, agar tum mujhe ijazat doh toh," Dilshad stated. Zoya looked at her shocked, "Ammi please, aisa mat kahiye. Maine meri Ammi koh sirf tasveer mein dekha hai. Hamesha Allah se dua ki hai keh unne at least ek baar dekhlo unse baat karlo lekin mujhe toh yeh bhi nahi paata keh unki khabar (grave) kaha hai. Main toh itni badnaseeb ho Ammi keh Allah ne meri Ammi aur Abu koh bachpan hi mujhe cheen liya. Main aapke pyaar keh laayak nahi hoon, infact main toh kisike bhi pyaar keh laayak nahi hoon," Zoya cried. Zoya has been flaunted these words since she could understand the language. The words that Razia repeated for 22 years seemed to have been engrained in her brain. How could she forget all the times Razia had said that she had killed her Ammi? Or the times she said that Zoya was responsible for her father leaving her mother? Zoya didn't know the truth but it was something she couldn't forget even if she wanted to. Dilshad looked at Zoya shocked. "Stop it Zoya! Phir khabh aisa nahi kehna. Beta, main jaanti hoon keh tumara bachpan mushkil tha lekin Zoya, tumare liye ek nayi zindagi tumara intezaar karahi hai. Tume jab pheli baar dekha tabh hi maine tume apni beti maana tha. Main tak nahi, iss ghar keh saare logo ka tumare saath ek rishta hai, unn rishto keh saath aage badh jaana hi sahi hai beta," she explained. "Lekin Ammi, bina yeh jaana keh mera ateet kya hai, main aage kaise badh sakthi hoon?" Zoya asked. "Tumara ateet toh bheet gaya hai Zoya aur tum usse badal nahi sakthi lekin tumara aane wala kal woh tumare haath mein hai Zoya. Tume paata hai, tum aur Asad jitne alag ho utne hi ek jaise bhi. Asad ne bhi beete huwi baatoin mein apni zindagi keh teen saal bekhar kiye aur tumne tumari saari zindagi. Main chathi hoon keh tum aur Asad ek dusre ka haath thaam kar, aage badh jao!" Dilshad said as she held Zoya's hands in her and slightly stroked them. "Main kosish karongi," Zoya told her. Both the ladies hugged each other. Later, they talked some more and both headed to their rooms as it was getting late. Zoya returned to her room to see Asad on the bed. His back was towards her and she assumed he must have been tired and hit the bed. She too grabbed her blanket from the bed and decided to sleep.

He opened his eyes to feel the sun streaming through the window. He felt his head throb and winced in pain. He sat and opened his eyes to find his wife in front of his eyes again. She was about to finish her morning prayer. As she stood up, she folded the prayer mat and placed it in its place. She didn't wish him as she had the previous mornings. She left before he could say anything. Zoya had noticed him in pain when she had finished her prayer. She walked downstairs to the kitchen to find naseem khala. She wished her and asked how to make his coffee. As she stirred his strong black coffee, she made strange faces to the aroma. "Allah jaane yeh kaise peete hai Mr. Khan, ewww!" she thought. Asad had freshened up and changed into his work clothes. She walked in and offered him the coffee. He looked at her surprised. "Maine dekha keh aap koh seer mein dard hai toh coffee laayi thi," she told him. "Thanks!" he said taking the cup from her. She turned to leave when he stopped her by holding her wrist. He placed the coffee mug on the night table and she turned to look at him. "Mujhe tumse baat karni hai," he told her. Zoya nodded and they both took a seat on the bed. "Zoya, I am sorry for yelling at you last night," Asad told her still holding her hand. Zoya sat still recalling the moments of last night. His yelling, her crying for her mother, and Dilshad's words ran in her mind. Seeing her quiet, "Zoya, mujhe cheeze unki jaaga mein acchi lagthi hai aur paak bhi, mujhe sirf aadat nahi hai kissi keh saath aise rehna ki, I am used to my space," he explained. "Mr. Khan aap ne khabhi yeh soocha hai keh maine mera ghar meri family aur mera sabh kuch chodkar yaha phir se rehne ki kosish karahi hoon," Zoya said sadly. Realization dawned on Asad. She was right! He thought. He felt a string of guilt tug at his heart. "I am sorry again Zoya, main sirf apne baare mein sooch raha hoon. Yeh kamra jitna mera hai, utna hi tumara hai. Tume yaha joh chahe karsakthi ho," he said. "Saach?" Zoya exclaimed. "But thoda saaf rakna please aur room mein khaana hai toh aap bed par nahi please table pe khayiye," he told her and she pouted. "Kosish karongi," Zoya said. "And Mr. Khan I am also sorry!" she said. "Tum kyun maafi maang rahi ho?" Asad asked confused. "Mujhe aap par chilana nahi chahiye the, woh main gussa thi issliye," she pouted. Asad smirked, "By the way, mujh par pheli baar kissi ne chilaya hai," he said. Zoya felt more embarrassed now and hid her face in her palms as Asad chuckled at her reaction.

She fixed her pendant on her kurti checking herself in the mirror, getting ready for the big day. She was going to meet some investors for donations for the girls today and she was hopeful that they would agree. Though the khans had money, Nikhat had always wanted to be independent. Dilshad and her wanted to run the NGO based on their efforts. She came back to her reality when she felt her husband slid his hands around her waist. "Good morning," she said with a smile. "Nervous?" he asked. "Ha Farhan, thoda toh nervous hoon. I just hope keh woh sabh maan jaye, it would be really good for the girls," she told him. "Don't worry, tumne itni mehanat ki hai, they will have to agree," he said. "inshAllah," she said. "Good luck!" he said placing a kiss on her cheek. Nikhat smiled. He always made her feel better. She felt a little less nervous now that he had believed in her. She turned around and wrapped her hands around her neck. "Paata nahi hamesha tume aise kaise karle the ho," she said. "Kya karleta hoon?" he asked. "Kohi bhi tension ho, you make me feel better," she told him. "Kya karaho bachpan ki aadat hai," Farhan said and they both giggled. "I remember jab tumne pheli baar mujhe shant kiya tha...tenth ke exams the and I think tabhi maine kahi na kahi toh faisla karliya tha keh zindagi baar tum ho mujhe shant karo," Nikhat said. "Accha...toh starting se shazish kiya mujhe phasa ne ki," Farhan teased. "Maine tume phasa hai?" Nikhat said getting angry. He tightened his grip on her waist and pulled her closer. "Ha phasa toh diya mujhe yeh khoobsurat rishte mein. Tum ne joh meri zindagi mein itna pyaar bhar diya hai aur khushiya lekar aayi hoon, usne mujhe tumse aise jhod diya hai jaise asmaan keh saath taare," he told her. Nikhat smiled. He had given her so much. A family that she could call her hers and so much love and respect. Even when the incident with tanveer had happened, he had supported her and always stood by her. She moved forward and pecked his lips. "Wow meri biwi bahut romantic horahi hai," Farhan teased and Nikhat started to blush. He was about to move forward and pull her into a deep kiss when their son ran into the room. "Ammi...Ammi!" he said and they broke apart. Nikhat giggled at Farhan's pout. Imran complained that his shirt button has broken. "Awww mera baccho, doh minute mein theek hojayega, chalo," Nikhat said as she picked her son into her arms. "I love you Ammi!" Imran said as he hugged Nikhat. Nikhat smiled at her son, "I love you too!" she said. Before walking out the door, she turned and mouthed the same words to her husband leaving him with a smile.

A while later as they still sat on the bed, "Mr. Khan mujhe aapse ek baat karni thi," Zoya told her. "Kya hua Zoya?" he asked. "Woh Mr. Khan, kal Ammi aur Abu kehrahe the keh agar main chaho toh job karsakthi hoon," Zoya said and Asad nodded. "Maine unse kaha keh main aap se pochongi. Kya main job karsakthi hoon?" Zoya asked him. Asad could see a glint of hope in her eyes. "Zoya, kya tum kaam karna chathi ho?" he asked. Of course she did! She thought but she was never allowed to. She had been told that her working outside would defame the family. "Agar aap nahi chathe keh main kaam karo toh main nahi karongi," she told him. "That wasn't my question Zoya," he stated. "Answer me! Tum kaam karna chathi ho?" he asked again. "Main hamesha se job karna chathi thi Mr. Khan, lekin main nahi chathi keh meri wajse kohi bhi humare family ko kuch kahe," Zoya explained. Asad liked how she had said "humare family." Asad understood where she was coming from. He knew that her family was very conservative and he had even seen her being mistreated at times. He took her hands in his, "Zoya, agar tum job karna chathi ho toh you are welcome to. Isse na mujhe problem hai na hi family mein kissi koh kohi takleef hogi. Main jaanta hoon keh tumare Abu tume job nahi karna dehna chathe hai lekin mujhe kohi problem nahi. Aur Zoya, tum joh chaye woh karsakthi ho, main khabhi tume kissi bhi cheez kehliye force nahi karunga. Agar kohi bhi baat tumare dil koh sahi lage toh tum woh karsakthi ho," Asad honestly told her. Zoya felt a sense of pride fill her heart. She had always complained to Allah about taking her parents away and for not helping her find them but today, she felt like Allah was paying her back. He had given her a loving family and an understanding husband. Yeah, he was a bit short tempered and a clean freak but he had a good heart, and isn't that what mattered. Zoya grinned! She moved forward and hugged Asad, "thank you Mr. Khan! Thank you so much," she said. Asad felt a new emotion creep into his heart. His heart flickered! First time after so many years, a girl other than his own family was so close to him. He wrapped his hand around her waist, "you are welcome Zoya!" Asad said with a smile. They broke apart and Zoya was about to go tell the family the great news but she stopped at the door. "Mr. Khan saare mehmaan chale gaye hai. aap ko apna vaada yaad haina?" Zoya said. Asad sighed. He was hoping that she would have forgotten the whole scenario in the excitement. "Mr. Khan...aap aisa nahi karsakthe, you promised!" Zoya warned. "theek hai, main aata hoon," Asad said and Zoya smiled happily and left the room.

Haider was driving to college. It was still early and the traffic was light. He had to submit his project and he needed to check some notes from the library. As he was blasting music through his car speakers and zoomed through the streets, he saw something in his rearview mirror that caught his eye. He slammed on his brakes, coming to a sudden halt. He got out of the car to see three guys misbehaving with a girl. He ran towards him, "hey...you! Kya karahe ho?" he yelled. Two of the guys were holding on the girl and her back was towards him. "Kya re shane? Teri koh kya karna hai? Chal jaa yaha se," the third guy told Haider. "Maine kaha chodo usse," Haider sternly stated. "Aur tere koh kya? Kya lagthi hai yeh teri?" the guy yelled as he pushed Haider. Haider jerked up and slapped the guy. The guy fell on the floor and one of his partners let the girl go and attacked Haider. As Haider tried to save himself, the girl tried to break off the thug's hold on her hand. She bit his hand and started to run freeing herself. The guy ran behind her. Haider beat the guy and ran behind them to save the girl. He increased his speed to catch up with them. As the guy gripped on the girl's dupatta, Haider pulled his collar and the guy fell on the floor. The girl didn't see where she was going and tripped on a rock and fell to the ground, uncounscious. Haider fought with the thud and punched his face, the guy fell to the ground. Haider winced in pain as he felt a sting of pain in his left arm, he guessed he must have hurt himself in the fight. Ignoring his injury, he ran up to the girl. He took her in his arms and turned her to face him. He was shocked. "Humaira!" he said. He patted her cheek trying to wake her up. He picked her in his arms and to his car. Placing her on the seat, he took the bottle of water and sprinkled water on her face. She opened his eyes and was surprised to see Haider. "Tum? Yaha?" she asked. "Are you ok? Aur yeh sawal toh mujhe karna chahiye. tum unn gunda se saath kaise phas gayi?" Haider asked concerned. Humaira told him that she was going to college with the driver. But the car broke down and the driver had went to fetch someone. She was alone in the car when the goons had started circulating the car. She tried to lock the car but the goons had broken the window, opened the car, and pulled her out. She had ran and reached this street where he had saved her. "Agar tum nahi aate toh...thank you!" she said as she started to cry. His instant reaction was to pull her into a hug and console her. She broke apart and was worried to see his hand. "I am sorry meri wajase," she said. "Humaira, calm down! Its ok," he told her. She quickly tore off her dupatta and tied it around his arm, "please bandage karanela," she told him. Haider offered to drop her home. Humaira was scared to go home. She told Haider that if her father found out she will be stopped from going to college. Gaffur has already been against her studying MBA. If it hadn't been for Zoya, then she would have never been allowed to study what she desired. He promised her he wouldn't tell anyone not even Zoya. Humaira was worried that Zoya would freak out if she found out and she didn't want to worry her as Zoya was still settling into her own life. Haider took a friend's house where she cleaned up and changed before he safely dropped her home.

So, things are progressing towards a positive side. What do you guys think? Can't wait to see your comments 😊 Thanks for all the comments, your support and feedback mean a lot 🤗

Chapter 25

Soon, everyone stood in the hall counting down to the New Year. He saw her speaking the numbers next to him. "8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...Happy New Year Mr. Khan," she exclaimed as she turned to him. "Happy New Year Zoya," he said as he turned to face her. Now that he had realized his feelings for her, she looked different. He didn't know that someone could look so beautiful under the moonlight. She looked angelic. The nightly wind blowing her bangs slightly, her cheeks dimpled with a big grin, and her eyes that spoke volumes. He held her hand and pulled her closer. "Was she really ready? Should he tell her what he had just figured out himself? Was this the right moment?" he thought as he admired her face. Seeing her pink lips, his heart fluttered as he felt the urge to taste them. To take them into a kiss of love, to share what he felt for her with her. Zoya could feel his intense gaze pierce through her skin. She could see that he was moving close to her. There was something in his eyes that she couldn't describe. "Yeh Mr. Khan kya karne wale hai? Yeh sabh keh saamne mere paas kyun aarahe hai, Allah miyan!" she thought. "Tume kya lagtha hai Zoya, Mr. Khan tumare kareeb kyun aana chathe hai, are you really that dumb?" her heart retorted. "I am not dumb ok, I am just...I don't know confused," her head defended. "Zoya and confused...that's knew," her ego stated. He was an inch away from her lips when he felt her shudder under his touch. He looked up and he could tell that she was unsure. He recalled the promise that he had made to her on their wedding night. As hard as it was, he stepped back, increasing the distance between them. She wasn't ready for this, he yelled at himself. Zoya was now even more confused. "Was he just about to kiss her? And then decided against it? Was it because of her?" she wondered. Just the thought of him kissing her made her heart race and butterflies dance in her stomach. Right then, his phone ringed breaking both their thoughts. He excused himself to answer the call. As Zoya saw his retreating figure, her heart felt a plunge of pain. Why did it hurt that he chose not to kiss her? Was she not good enough? But, he did kiss her, well more like brushed his lips against hers a while ago, when they have been interrupted with Imran. "What does he want with her?" she thought. "But more importantly, what did she want?" her mind questioned. She sighed having no answers. Just then, Asad returned. "Sorry Zoya, par hume jaana hoga. Woh kuch clients kehliye ek presentation redesign karna hai," he told her. Zoya could tell that he was frustrated at someone. "Aap kisise naraaz hai?" she asked. "Aisa kuch nahi, chalo," he firmly stated. Zoya nodded and they both left the party after bidding their good byes with the host.

Once they reached home, Asad told Zoya that she should go to bed as he had to work on the presentation and it will probably be late. Asad had changed and left for the study so he didn't have to disturb her. Sleep was far from Zoya's eyes. From the past couple weeks, she just couldn't understand what she felt for Asad. Yes, he was a nice guy well more like a great guy. She knew he respected her and cared for her but still there was something missing. May be she desired the emotional connection with him that he restricted from her. She preferred to know his feelings, whether good or bad. Aren't you asking for too much Zoya? This marriage was a compromise for both of you. You are husband and wife for the rest of the world but behind closed doors, you know the truth of this relationship. But, this marriage is no compromise for her anymore. She genuinely wanted this relationship to work. She was involved in this, with all her heart and soul. But what about him? Did he feel the same way? Well, you would know if he ever told you, she mocked herself. She sighed as she turned to the other side on the couch. Seeing the empty bed, she figured that he must still be in the study. Soon, slumber took over her and she fell asleep.

The next morning Asad had woken up with a headache. Zoya offered to make him coffee and left for the kitchen. He was working on some designs that needed to be finalized. "Oh come on Aman, kya tum log yeh bhi theek se nahi karsakthe? Kya saare kaam mujhe hi karni padega," she heard him yell as she walked in with a cup, steaming with his black coffee. She took a seat next to him on the couch and placed the coffee on the table. He was yelling on the phone and she looked at the prints on the computer. As she hung up, "Allah miyan, whats wrong with you Mr. Khan? Kitna gussa karte hai aap. Kohi Sunday koh bhi kaam karta hai kya?" she said. Asad just rolled his eyes as he picked up the coffee mug. "main aapki help karo?" she asked. "Tum?" he asked surprised. "Ha Mr. Khan itne meino se aap ko kaam karte huwe dekh rahi hoon, mujhe bhi kuch aata hai," she said rasing her invisible collar. "Accha?" Asad said smirking. "You don't know the perks of being Mrs. Asad Ahmed Khan," she proudly said as he chuckled. Zoya explained what he could change in the building structure which could save him money and make the model more appealing. "Wow Zoya, paata nahi yeh maine kyun soocha. Thanks," he said. "Woh issliye Mr. Khan kyun ki aapko sirf gussa yaad rehta hai," she teased. Asad just glared at her and Zoya laughed more at his reaction. "Accha Mr. Khan aap coffee pee lijiye, main jaake ammi koh kitchen mein help karde thi hoon," Zoya said. Asad nodded sipping his coffee and she left. Zoya walked into the kitchen to see Dilshad and Nikhat cooking breakfast and Najma on the counter sipping coffee. "Ammi, it smells so good here," Zoya said as she joined Najma on the counter. "Ammi na unke famous paya bana rahi hai," Nikhat said. "Waise Zoya, tum bhi toh bahut saari cheeze seek gayi ho, tume kuch banana chahiye," Dilshad said. "Nahi nahi ammi, mera khaana kohi nahi kahega," Zoya said as she grabbed a bottle of strawberry jam and spoon from the corner of the counter. "Don't worry Zoya, hum tumse itna pyaar karte hai toh hum khalenge," Nikhat said. "Shayad lekin main aap sabh koh torture nahi karna chathi," Zoya said and the ladies chuckled. Zoya opened the jar and started to eat the jam. "Bhabhi...aap hamesha yeh jam kyun khathi rehti hai," Najma teased. "Woh kya haina mujhe bachpan se strawberry jam bahut pasand hai. Bachpan se kha nahi sakhi lekin aabh apni khwaish puri karahi hoon, thanks to my pyaari ammi," Zoya said looking at Dilshad. "Bhabhi lagtha hai bhaijaan ka nahi aapka naam jammy hona chahiye," Najma said. "Tumare bhaijaan ka naam jammy hai...saach?" Zoya said. "Ha woh bachpan mein unne jammy kehte the," Najma said. Zoya couldn't believe it. She started to laugh and Najma joined her. Dilshad and Nikhat glared at Najma and she stopped laughing realizing what she had said. Zoya didn't see the interaction between them and still kept laughing.

Asad had finished his coffee and had gone to the kitchen to return the cup. When he heard the name, his hands formed into a fist. Haunting memories rushed through his mind. He slammed the cup on the dining table. Walking up the stairs, it all came back. "jammy...aaj hum bahut khush hai aaj se khala humari ammi banjayengi...Humare bachpan keh dost humare shohar bane, Allah ne humari dua puri kardi...tum itna gussa kyun karahe ho Asad? Joh bhi hua bhul jao, hum aabh bhi tumse nikaah karlenge." He went into the room and slammed the door. He pushed the vase with flowers on the ground shattering it. He took his anger out on the liefeless things in the room. He pushed the window open and felt the air touch his skin. Every time he wanted to move forward, something pulled him back into the black hole. Breakfast was ready and Dilshad had sent Zoya to fetch Asad. Zoya walked into the room and saw Asad was facing the window. "Mr. Khan nashta ready hai," she said. "Kaha kohe hai Mr. Khan? Aapko paata hai Najma ne mujhe bataya keh aapko bachpan mein jammy bhulaya jaata tha," she said as she giggled. "Aapko paata hai maine toh aap kehliye ek rhyme bhi soochi hai...jammy jammy yes puppa, eating sugar no puppa, telling lies..." Zoya was in her own accord and she kept talking. "Shut up Zoya! Just shut up!" Asad roared. Zoya was shocked. "Par Mr. Khan kya hua?" she asked innocently. Asad grabbed her by her arms, "tum thodi dher chup nahi reha sakthi...hamesha kuch na kuch bolna zaroori hai. Soocha hai tumari harkat se kissi ko takleef hosakthi hai," he yelled. "Par maine kiya kya hai?" Zoya asked. His grip on her shoulders was hurting her. Asad's anger had taken over him. He didn't realize that his hold on her arms was getting tighter. She saw his eyes were red with anger but she was still confused as to why. A little while ago, he was perfectly fine. "Mr. Khan chodiye mujhe...chodiye," she said trying to push him away but he was too strong for her. "Please Mr. Khan," Zoya said pleadingly as her eyes filled with tears. As tears rolled down her cheeks, Asad realized what he was doing. He freed his hold on her arms and moved back. He ran his hands through his hair and rushed out of the room.

More tears filled her eyes as everything that had just occurred ran through her mind. Zoya looked around the room and saw the broken things. Why was Asad mad? What has she done? She heard Dilshad calling for her. She went downstairs and joined everyone for breakfast. Dilshad noticed Zoya's red eyes, "Zoya tum theek ho?" she asked. "Jee ammi," Zoya said. "Asad kaha reha gaya?" Dilshad asked. "Woh actually unne kuch kaam aagaya issliye woh chale gaye," Zoya said. "Tum sach mein theek ho?" Nikhat asked. "Ha bhabhi. Woh bas thoda sir mein dard horaha hai," Zoya replied. "Main coffee bana doh?" Dilshad offered. "Nahi Ammi, main thodi dher rest karlongi toh shayad theek hojayega, mujhe nashta nahi chahiye. Main thodi dher mein aati hoon," Zoya said and excused herself back to the room. Dilshad knew something was wrong but didn't want to force Zoya. She returned to the room and tried to clean up the mess that he had created. More tears rolled down her cheeks. As she was picking up one of the glass pieces, it slit her palm. She looked at the blood that was oozing out of her hand. Surpirisingly, it wasn't her hand that hurt. She felt more pain in her heart than in her hand. The rest of the day she just stayed in the room. She waited for him to return. She wanted to ask him what she had done wrong but he never came. It was late evening but he still hasn't returned. She pulled out her mother's picture and sat on the couch. "Mr. Khan itna gussa kyun hogaye ammi! Mujhse kohi galati huwi kya? Nikaah koh itna waqt hogaya phir bhi mujhe Mr. Khan khabhi khabhi ajnabee lagthe hai. Unka khabhi theek rehna aur khabi aisa gussa karna, mujhe kuch samaj nahi aaraha hai," she said. "Kash aap yaha hoti toh main aap se pooch leti, paata nahi kya karo," Zoya said looking at her mother as tears rolled down her cheeks. In the middle of the dark Bhopal highway, he lay against his car. Seeing the tears in her eyes, he realized what he had done was wrong. Seeing her cry made his heart break into a million pieces. He had no right to do that to her. It wasn't fair! "Aur Zoya sahi thi, iss sabh mein uss ki kya galati hai," he thought. "Dammit!" he yelled banging his car. He owed her an apology. He got into the car and sped through the roads to reach back home.

Asad made a quick stop and bought some chocolates on his way home. He parked his car and rushed up the stairs. He opened the door and was shocked to see her. She was cuddled up on the couch with a photo clutched to her chest. He could see the dried tears on her cheeks. He cursed himself for hurting her. His guilt punched him in the heart. He moved towards her and took the photo from her. It was the picture of her mother. He knew that she only did this when she was worried about something. And today he was the reason for her tears. He placed the picture on the table next to her. Asad got up and went to the bed and returned with a pillow and blanket. He slowly lifted her head and placed the pillow underneath. She then covered her with the blanket. As he was about to move away, he felt her grasp his arm. "Maine kya kiya hai? Kuch bhi toh nahi? Maine kuch nahi kiya," she mumbled as she shifted in her sleep making her hair fall on her cheeks. Asad closed his eyes in pain. It seemed like the pain in his heart increased thousand times over. "I am sorry Zoya, I am really sorry!" he said, tucking her hair away and caressing it. He didn't know how long he sat next to her on the floor, admiring her. "Yeh tum kya karahe ho Asad? Why are you hurting her? It's not fair! Tum aisa nahi karsakthe. Dekh rahe hona keh tume usse kitni takleef deh rahe ho," he mentally scolded himself. After a while, he slowly untangled his hand from her hold and got up. Looking at her one last time, he left. Later, he changed and hit the bed looking at his sleeping wife.

Asad was deep in sleep when her screams woke him up. He opened his eyes and rushed to her side. He saw her hands in the air, calling out to her mother and tears rolling down her cheeks. "Zoya, utho...Zoya," he called out. She jerked out and sat up on the couch, panting for breath. "Tum theek ho?" he asked as he sat up next to her. She wiped her tears and composed herself. "Main theek hoon," she said as she moved away from him, increasing the distance between them. Asad felt like someone had just taken a knife and stabbed his heart. The way she seemed so distant, aloof towards him, wounded him. "Pani chahiye?" he asked. She just nodded negatively. He could see that she was sweating profusely and her hands were clasped together still scared from what she had seen in the dream. "Zoya, dekho joh bhi hua main...," Asad said when she interrupted. "I am sorry maine aapko utadiya, bahut raat hogayi hai aap sohjayiye," she told him. Asad could feel his anger resurface. Here he was trying to amend his mistake, but this girl...stubborn she was, wouldn't let this go so soon, he thought. Controlling himself, he walked up to the night table and returned with a glass of water. "Yeh lo pee lo," he said offering her the glass. "Nahi chahiye Mr. Khan," she said, her eyes on the floor. He was furious but he knew that if he said anything, things would only get worse. "Pani pee lo Zoya...don't be childish," Asad said as he took her hand and pressed the glass in her hold. "Ahhh!" she screamed and quickly placed the glass table in front of her, as her eyes filled with tears. "Kya hua?" he asked worried. He knew he hasn't been that forceful that he could hurt her hand. When she didn't reply, he took her right hand in his and opened her wrist. He was shocked. There was a linear scar on her plam that was pretty deep from what he could see. "Yeh tum...chot kaise lagi?" he asked concerned. "Kuch nahi...bas subhe," Zoya trailed off as the events of the morning bought back agonizing memories. Asad felt his heart constrict at the thought that she was hurt because of him. He quickly went into the bathroom and returned with the first aid box. He tried to catch her hand but she retreated back. "Its ok Mr. Khan mujhe dard nahi horaha hai," she said. "Mujhe horaha hai!" he yelled as she looked at him surprised. "Aabh chup chap tumara haath doh aur chup baito, mujhe kuch nahi suna hai," he scolded. Asad took her hand in his and this time, she didn't try to argue. He cleaned the wound, applied some antiseptic, and bandaged her hand. Without saying anything, he took the box and left. Zoya saw him return a few minutes later and climb into bed. "Aap yeh kya karahe hai Mr. Khan mere saath. Khabhi aap mujhpar chilate hai, aur chot dehte hai. Aur khabhi aap ussi chot par marham laaga the hai. Mujhe toh kuch samaj nahi aaraha hai, kya karoon. Mujhe sirf aapko samaj na hai, par shayad main aapko khabhi samaj nahi paungi," she thought sadly as she sat there looking at her bandaged hand and then at her husband on the bed, with his back towards her.

Asad opened his eyes to find his wife praying as he did every morning. But, she wasn't there. He quickly got off the bed and searched for but she wasn't in the room. He looked around the house and found her in the kitchen. She was making coffee with naseem khala. He walked in, "Zoya mujhe tumse baat karni hai," he firmly stated. Naseem khala excused herself saying she would give coffee to Dilshad and Rashid and left. Zoya poured his black coffee and placed the cup in front of him and walked out. "Zoya...Zoya!" he said following her. "Mr. Khan mujhe aap se kohi baat nahi karni," she said. "Lekin mujhe karni hai," Asad told her and caught hold of her hand. "Mr. Khan, aap kya karahe hai, chodiye," she whispered, worried that if someone saw them, they might know that they were arguing. He would always get away from the questions with his usual mumbling. But, she couldn't do that. Ignoring her protests, he dragged her up the stairs and into the room. "Zoya ek baar meri baat sunlo," Asad said. Zoya didn't want to talk to him. She was angry. She wasn't one of the girls who got angry easily but she has had it with his extreme emotions. As she was about to leave, he held her wrist, "please!" he pleaded. Zoya stopped and turned to face him. "Zoya kal joh bhi I am sorry for that. I didn't mean any of it, it's just. Please usse bhul jao, I am really sorry," Asad said. Zoya didn't respond. He went to the night table and returned to her, "aur maine tumare liye chocolates bhi laaya hoon," Asad told her. Zoya still didn't respond. He moved closed and grabbed her hands in his. He knew he had hurt her. "Zoya kuch bolo," he said, looking at her to say something.

She removed her hands from his and moved back. "Nahi Mr. Khan har baar sirf sorry keha kar aur yeh chocolates dekhar aap mere saath aise nahi karsakthe," she told him. Asad looked at her shocked. "Aap koh kya lagtha hai Mr. Khan mujhe kaisa lagtha hoga jab bhi aap aise chilathe hai phir sorry keha dehte hai, mujhe kaisa lagtha hoga," she asked painfully. He had no answers. He just listened to what she had to say. "Maine bahut kosish ki hai Mr. Khan keh aap ko apni space doon aur aapko jaan ne kosish karo lekin, lekin jab bhi mujhe lagtha hai keh main aapko thoda bahut jaanti hoon aap mera baroosa thode the hai. Main jaanti hoon Mr. Khan keh aap yeh nikaah nahi karna chathe the aur main bhi nahi lekin nikaah hone keh baad maine har kosish ki hai. Har kosish ki hai keh main aapko samaj sakon aur iss rishto koh nibha sakon lekin mujhe aaj bhi aap keh saath ek ajnabee hi mehsoos hota hai," she yelled as tears filled her eyes. "Aap mujhe khabhi kuch nahi baata dehte. Hamesha sirf chilate hai phir yeh chocolates lakar dehte hai. Aur main kuch nahi poochti. Lekin mujhse aur nahi hota Mr. Khan. Mujhe aapki yeh chuppi bardasht nahi hoti hai," she said. Zoya had worked really hard to get to know him. But each time, she felt her hopes broken when he would get mad and yell at her without any reason. And if there was reason, she was never made aware of it. "I am sorry Mr. Khan lekin iss baar aapko chocolate dehne se ya sorry bol ne se aapko maafi nahi milegi. Mujhe yeh rishta saachayi se nibhana hai aur issliye main aapko apni har baat baata thi hoon. Aap se share karti hoon. Mujhe laaga tha keh hum asli maiine (meaning) mein shohar aur biwi ho naho, at least dost toh hai lekin I was wrong," she told him. Asad closed his eyes in guilt. She had misunderstood it all. She was much more than a friend to him. He loved her. Seeing her stand in front of him and cry, moistened his eyes. He moved forward to tell her something when she moved back again. "please door rahi mujhse, mujhe aap se kohi baat nahi karni hai," Zoya said as she ran out of the room. If Asad was guilty before, now his heart filled with pain. The girl he loved couldn't understand him, what could be worse. He had to do something! He had to make her understand what she meant to him. And for that, he would do anything!

Zoya ran out of the room and outside the house. She felt suffocated seeing him with so much pain in his eyes. She ran and took a seat on the wooden chair in the backyard under the sunny skies as tears rolled down her cheeks. "Itna dard kyun hota hai Allah miyan. Agar Mr. Khan mujhe kuch nahi baatana chathe toh nahi sahi. Woh unki marzi hai. Mujhe kyun jaana hai keh unne kaise lagtha, kyun?" she cried. "Zindagi bar logo ne mujhpar gussa kiya hai lekin mujhe shayad khabhi utni takleef nahi huwi hai jitna keh tabh hoti hai jab Mr. Khan mujh par chilate hai," she said. "Aur aap Allah miyan, aapko mere saath hi aise kyun karna hai. Aapko maine bola tha na keh aapko meri madad karni hai, Mr. Khan koh samaj ne mein. Nahi! Aapko toh bahut maaza aata hai Zoya koh aise pagal loki taara chilate huwe," she complained looking up at the sky. Lost in her own world, Zoya missed the four pair of eyes watching and listening to her conversation with her Almighty. Asad had searched for her everywhere and found her there. Hearing her words made him feel worse, if that was even possible. He felt his stomach twist in a disgusted knot. His silence has torn her inside. She has been suffering in silence because he didn't have the courage to speak what his heart felt. "Dammit Asad...kyun? Kyun tum apne dil ki baat usse bol dehte. Usse haq hai, issliye nahi kyun ki woh tumari biwi hai balki issliye kyun ki tum usse pyaar karte ho," he scolded himself. "Par kya woh mujhse pyaar karti hai? Kya meri khamoshiyan usse mujhse door lekar chali gayi hai," he wondered looking at her from the door. Dilshad stood in between the two, unknown to both of them. She hasn't seen Asad who was partly hidden due to the tall bushes. She saw Zoya crying and has even heard her words. Tears filled her eyes as she looked at the broken soul in front of her. "Ya Allah, yeh kya horaha hai? Maine soocha keh Zoya Asad koh samaj payegi lekin lagtha hai keh Asad ki khamoshi usse takleef keh alava kuch nahi deh rahi hai," she thought. "Kya Rashid sahi the? Kya Asad Zoya koh izzat aur parwa deh saktha hai par pyaar nahi. Ya Allah, agar mujhse galati hogayi hai toh uski saaza mujhe dehna, mere bacchon koh nahi. Main toh bas unki khushi chathi hoon aapse, aur kuch nahi," she silently prayed.

How is Asad going to tell Zoya what he really felt? Will Dilshad help him? Will Zoya understand Asad? Keep reading to find out!

Chapter 29

She walked in and saw him standing by the window. She felt her heart race in fear. Why was he so mad? What was he angry about? She thought. Just ask na Zoya, it isn't that hard, her inner self spoke. "Mr. Khan, aap itna gussa kyun karahe hai? kya hua hai?" she asked. In a second, Asad dashed towards her. He grabbed her by her shoulders, "kya hua? Kya hua Zoya? Seriously! Pichle doh ghanto se main tume pagalo ki taara doond raha hoon aur tume kitne baar phone kiya. Tumne answer kyun nahi kiya?" he yelled. Zoya shrieked. She tried to wiggle out of his grip but he wouldn't let go. "Shayad meri phone ki battery dead hogayi thi...paata nahi," she said. "How could you be so irresponsible Zoya? Check nahi karsakthi thi. Hamesha kuch na kuch karthi rehti ho. Tume paata bhi hai keh tumare harkatein kissi aur koh kitni takleef hosakthi hai," he said as his grip around her became tighter. "Mr. Khan chodiye please, aap yeh, mujhe dard horaha hai," she pleaded. "Aur joh mujhe dard horaha tha uska kya? Agli baar apni phone ki battery check karke rakna, tumare bachpane ki wajase main apna time baar baar waste nahi karsaktha," he stated still angry. Zoya was getting annoyed listening to his words. She put in all her energy and pushed him away. "Stop it Mr. Khan! Yeh aap kya karahe hai? Main chup hoon isska matlab yeh nahi keh aap kuch bhi bolte jaye. Maine galati kya kiya hai. Phone ki battery dead hogayi thi toh aapne mujhe irresponsible bol diya. Aur aap, aapko toh sirf kohi bahana chahiye mujhpar chilane kehliye. Main bacchi nahi ho Mr. Khan, main apna khayal rak sakthi hoon. Stop being so overprotective," she told him. "Main overprotective hoon?" he asked, surprised at her accusations. "Jee ha...aapko kya farak padtha hai keh main ghar time pe aao ya dher se. Main apna khayal rak sakthi hoon. Aur mujhe aapse kohi baat nahi karni hai," she yelled. As she turned to leave, she felt his hand grab hers and pull her back. She dashed against his stiff chest and looked up in his coffee brown orbitals. His emotions took over him and in the next moment, he pressed his lips against hers. Zoya froze! She felt her hands turn into fist around her anarkali. Asad felt his anger melt as their lips met. He bit her lower lip and desired to invade into her mouth but she didn't respond. He pressed harder but she stood still. He broke away and looked at her to see her eyes closely shut. He leaned in, "farak padtha hai...tum jab bhi mere aankhon keh saamne nahi hoti hoon, mujhe bahut farak padtha hai," he whispered. She shuddered as she felt his lips brush against her ear. As she felt him move away, she opened her eyes. She scanned the floor and quickly ran inside the changing room and shut the door. She could feel her heart palpate against her chest. She placed her hand on her chest. "ya Allah yeh kya tha...Mr. Khan just...he just kissed me?" she said still in shock. "main kohi sapna toh nahi dekh rahi hoon," she thought. "Uss din Mr. Khan ne cheek par aur aaj toh," she said touching her lips, which still held the feeling of his.

That night, sleep was far away from Zoya's thoughts. She was confused. She didn't know why she had felt her heart pump and her breath stop. She didn't know why whenever she felt him near her, she felt short of words. What was it she felt towards him? She liked him, he is a good guy...well he is a very good guy but what was this that she felt. Her unknown feelings made her heart thump and butterflies to twirl around in her stomach. Her back was towards him as he lay on the bed watching her. After he had kissed her, she had started avoiding him. Even at the dining table, her eyes were glued to her plate. Every time, their eyes met, he could see her avoid him and a blush sneak up her cheeks. He was Asad Ahmed Khan. He wasn't allowed to lose control of his feelings. But when he thought about losing her, everything seemed to fade. He didn't care about anything. "Lekin mujhe aise Zoya keh saath shayad nahi karna chahiye tha. Mujhe toh yeh bhi nahi paata keh uske dil mein kya hai? Lekin yeh toh main jaanta hoon keh woh mere liye kuch feel karti hai. jis tarah woh mere paas jaane se react karti hai usse toh aisa hi lagtha hai," Asad thought as he closed his eyes remembering all their moments together since they met. The next morning, Nikhat told Zoya what had happened the day before and how Asad was so tensed for her. Zoya then realized why Asad was so upset. He must have been worried for her, she thought. Minutes later, she walked in the room to see him packing for office. "Mr. Khan," she said and he turned around to face her. "Yeh aap kehliye," she told him as she put forward a small plate. Asad saw a sandwich on the plate and it has written "sorry" on top of it with a sad smiley. He smiled seeing it. "I am sorry Mr. Khan, you were right! Mujhe dihaan rakna chahiye tha," she said. "Mere paas bhi tumare liye kuch hai," he said as he dug into his bag and gave her a toffee. "I am also sorry, mujhe aise chilana nahi chahiye tha," he said. "Sandwich khahiye na, maine pheli baar try kiya hai," she said. Asad nodded and took a bite, "bahut accha hai," he told her. "Saach Mr. Khan, thank you!" Zoya said as she grinned. "mujhe late horaha hai, main chalta hoon," he said grabbing his things. "Ha mujhe bhi school kehliye nikal na chahiye," Zoya said. "Main drop kardo?" he asked. "Mr. Khan aap koh toh late horaha tha na?" she teased as she giggled. "Woh main actually...woh," Asad said. "Main chali jaungi Mr. Khan aur aaj time pe pauch jaungi, quran khani hai aur bahut saari tyaari karni hai," Zoya said as she got her things. Then, they both headed out to their destinations.

Everyone had returned from work earlier as quran khani was scheduled to happen that night. Nikhat, Zoya, and Najma were checking all the setup when Dilshad told them to go get ready as the guests will be arriving shortly. Asad stood in front of the mirror, dressed in a white kurta pajama, fixing his hair when his eyes fell on her. Dressed in a light green anarkali, she was wiping her wet hair that was layered on her left shoulder. She placed the wet towel to dry and turned to meet his eyes through the mirror. She smiled at him and he returned the gesture. Zoya then picked up the dupatta from the bed and placed it on her shoulder and then covered her head. "Neeche chale?" she asked him. He nodded and they both proceeded downstairs. The family was waiting downstairs when they saw Asad and Zoya coming down the stairs. "Wow Bhaijaan...kya couple entry hai," Haider teased. "shut up!" Asad said glaring at him as Zoya giggled. "Kisiki nazar na lage," Dilshad said lovingly. Hearing her words, Asad and Zoya just looked at each other. Soon, the guests started to arrive. The living room was divided in half and the ladies were on one side and men on the other. Asad kept stealing glances at his beautiful wife. She was so engrossed in reading the holy quran and prayer. But his heart couldn't keep away from her. He was glad that she was being normal with him after the kiss. But the fact that she hasn't responded back bothered him a little. His thoughts were interrupted when he saw her coughing. She was trying to control herself so she wouldn't disturb anyone else's reading. Suddenly, she looked up to see Asad holding a glass of water. Zoya smiled and thanked him, taking the glass from him. "Tum theek ho?" he asked quietly so only she can hear. "Yeah, main theek hoon, thanks Mr. Khan!" she said. Dilshad smiled seeing the two but someone else was watching them too and that person wasn't too pleased.

After the quran khani was over, dinner was being served to everyone. The ladies teased how Asad was taking care of Zoya, she just blushingly smiled. Zoya was serving everyone water and juice but she kept seeing Asad who was talking with some relatives. He cared so much for her that others could see it only she couldn't, Zoya thought. "paata nahi yeh mujhe kya horaha hai? main Mr. Khan keh baare mein itna kyun sooch rahi hoon," Zoya muttered to herself. As she was watching Asad, she barged into someone dropping the glass of orange juice on her dress. "Mujhe maaf kardijiye...mera dihaan nahi," Zoya said but she stopped seeing Razia smirk at her. "Dihaan toh tumara kahi aur hi hai, main bhi toh shaam se dekh rahi hoon," Razia mocked looking at Asad. Zoya turned to see Asad, "aisa kuch nahi hai, main bas kuch sooch rahi thi aur," she explained. "Aabh bolungi toh bologe keh bolti hai, lagtha hai tumare khoobsurati ne Asad miyan koh tumare upar fida kardiya hai," Razia said. "Woh mere shohar hai...unke aur mere beech joh bhi ho uski fikar aap na hi kare toh behtaar hai," Zoya firmly stated. "Haye...kya tevar nikal aaye hai tumare," Razia said as she scornfully placed her index finger on Zoya's chin. Zoya moved her finger away and started to leave. "Ek baat yaad rakna Zoya, tumari khoobsurati chahiye kitno koh tum par pagal karde, jab Asad koh tumari asliyat paata chalegi toh woh tume waise hi chod dehga jaise barso phele tumare Ammi Abu ne choda tha," Razia told her. Zoya looked at her shocked. Tears filled her eyes as she left from there. She wouldn't let her see her tears. Never! She ran up the stairs and slammed her room door as she lay against it. Tears bust from her eyes and rolled down her tears. "Kyun karti hai aisa woh mere saath...kyun?" she thought. "Bachpan se mere saath aisa hi karti hai. Mere Ammi Abu chod keh nahi gaye the mujhe...nahi gaye the," she said as she sobbed. She caressed her arm and more tears filled her tears. "Kya saach jaane keh baad, Mr. Khan mujhe chod keh chale jayenge?" she asked herself. Zoya's insecurities seemed to choke a wall around her. She has always been a full of life and carefree attitude kind of a girl but the insecurities that Razia had built around her, sometimes seem to take advantage of her. Suddenly, she heard someone knock on the door. She stood up and quickly wiped her tears. Asad had seen Zoya talking to Razia and then minutes later go up the stairs with tears in her eyes. He knew something was wrong. He knocked on the door again and opened to see her standing right at the entrance. "Zoya, tum aise achanak aagayi...sabh theek haina?" he asked concerned seeing her red eyes. "Ha Mr. Khan main theek...woh actually...ha woh mere dress par orange juice girgaya tha bas usse saaf karne aayi thi," she said scanning the floor. Asad could tell that she was lying. There were only two occasions when she avoided eye contact: when he was close to her or when she was lying. "Are you sure keh sabh theek hai?" he asked again. Zoya just nodded, "Neeche sabh intezaar karahe honge, mujhe jaana chahiye," she said and quickly walked out of the room.

It's been a week since the quran khani and silence seemed to have taken over Zoya. She has distanced herself from Asad. She only spoke when spoken to and that too with few words. Asad knew that somehow it was connected to what Razia and Zoya had talked about that night but he didn't know what it was. He had tried to talk to Zoya twice but she has become extremely uncomfortable with the topic so he let it go. He wasn't going to force her to tell him something she didn't want to. But he was sure of one thing. He was going to bring her out of her closed shell. Asad was going to get Zoya back, his chulbul, kit kit karni wali Zoya. It was Saturday morning and Asad was getting dressed for office as he has a meeting scheduled that morning. Zoya was sitting on the bed reading something on her iPad. "Ouch!" he said. She looked up from her screen. "Woh button toot Gaya," he informed. "Oh," she said as she went back to her screen. Asad sighed, he was expecting her to say something more. "Tum stitch kardogi?" he asked. Zoya looked at him again. "Main?" she asked. "Come on Zoya, yaha tume kohi aur dikh raha hai?" he said. "Par Mr. Khan, mujhe yeh karna nahi aata," Zoya told him. "Toh isse accha mauka thodi milega, tume seekne ka," Asad said. "kya?" Zoya said a little shocked. "Chalo aajao," he said as he walked up to the bed and grabbed her by the hand and helped her down to the floor. They now stood facing each other. "Theek hai, main sewing box laati hoon," Zoya said not having any choice to escape. She walked into the changing closet and returned with a small plastic box that contained all the sewing materials. She placed it on the bed and took a matching white thread to his shirt and fixed it through the needle. With the thread in her hand, she turned to see him. She stepped in closer to him and started to sew. He stared at her face which displayed some sorrow unknown to him. She smiled but the smile never reached her eyes. The wind blew her hair and Zoya shook her head trying to move it away. But it returned to disrupt her vision again. At that moment, she felt his fingers trail along her face. She looked up and met his eyes. He slowly moved his hair and placed it behind her ears. "Ahhh" she flinched as the needle poked the finger. "Samaal keh Zoya," Asad said as he took her hand and quickly sucked the blood that was oozing out. "Main theek hoon," she said as she retrieved her hand. Asad was hurt! The way she has distanced herself hurt him but he composed himself. He wasn't going to give up hope so easily; he will keep trying till he succeeded. "Aree wah tumne toh isse theek kardiya," he said looking at the button. "Thanks!" Asad told her and left the room.

That afternoon, the family members were chatting after lunch when Dilshad suggested that Zoya make dinner for everyone that night. "Kya? No way Ammi! Mujhse nahi hoga," Zoya exclaimed. "Aree kyun nahi hoga, maine tume itne meino se seekaya hai. tum acche se khana bana sakthi ho," Dilshad encouraged. "Ammi, main khana bana bhi loon lekin kohi nahi khayega," Zoya pouted. "Tum aise kyun sooch rahi ho beta, tum jaisa bhi khana banao, hum khalenge," Rashid teased. "Abu...aap bhi," she said. "Aree mazaak hai, mujhe pura yakeen hai keh tum bahut accha khana banaogi," Rashid said. "All the best bhabhi!" Najma said giving her a side hug. "Thanks," Zoya said smilingly. "Aur ha Zoya, kohi help chahiye toh mujhe baatana," Dilshad told her and Zoya nodded. That evening, Zoya stood in the kitchen, an apron on her shoulders and her hair tied up in a ponytail. "I hope keh khana accha banjaye...come on Zoya, you can do this!" she encouraged herself as she tied the apron around her waist. Latif and Naseem khala were helping her and she started cooking. About two hours later, Zoya had managed to make rice, rotis, koftas, sabzi, and even kheer. She was pleasantly surprised at herself. But, these two hours haven't been too fun for Usman and Naseem khala. Every time, Zoya would find one spice, she would drop two on the counter and they had to stay right behind her to clean it up. After she was done, Zoya arranged the dishes on the dining table with the help of Usman. Soon, the family joined Zoya at the dining table. Asad has still not returned from the office and called in to inform that he would be late. Zoya served Dilshad and Rashid first. "Taste kijiye aur baatayiye kaise bana hai," Zoya said. Rashid and Dilshad took a bite of the rice and koftas. They both looked at Zoya who was staring at them with hopeful eyes. "Kuch kahiye na," Zoya said getting impatient. Dilshad and Rashid laughed, "khana bahut accha bana hai, hum toh mazaak karahe the," Rashid said. "kya Abu aap bhi," Zoya complained. "Aree mazaak tha beta, khana bahut hi accha bana hai," Dilshad said as she lovingly patted her cheek. "Woh toh hona hi haina Ammi, after all meri teacher itni acchi joh thi," Zoya said as everyone chuckled. After enjoying dinner, everyone retrieved to their rooms for the night. Zoya informed Dilshad that she was going to wait for Asad as he still wasn't home.

Zoya was waiting for Asad but he was still a no show. "Yeh Mr. Khan bhi na paata nahi kaha rehagaye, phone bhi nahi utarahe hai. Sorry Zoya, bahut hi important kaam tha," she said mimicking what Asad would say as an excuse. Bored, she pulled out her iPad and started watching some videos on YouTube. She plugged in her headphone and started watching. It was late at night when Asad parked his car in the khan driveway. He was supposed to return after the scheduled meeting, but a client's proposal was rejected and had to be finished today. So he had to stay late and finish the presentation today. He was tired! His coat hung on his arm and his tie was loosened around his neck. He opened the door and walked in. In a second, he felt his tiredness blow away with the wind. A smile crept up on his lips seeing his wife laughing. She was watching something on her iPad. He slowly walked up behind her and almost chuckled seeing what she was watching. It was tom and jerry, the cartoon. She saw his reflection in the screen and quickly stood up. "kaha the Mr. Khan aap? Kabh se wait karahi hoon," she complained. "Sorry Zoya, bahut important kaam tha joh aaj hi pura karna tha. Waise kya dekh rahi ho?" he asked. "kuch nahi bas aise hi" Zoya said quickly closing the iPad and placing it on the sofa. "Aap change karlijiye aur main khana laaga thi hoon," she said. Asad nodded and left for their room. Zoya warmed up the food and placed it on the table. She sat waiting for Asad. She was suddenly nervous to serve him her food. "kya Mr. Khan koh mera khana pasand aayega? I mean pheli baar banaya hai," she thought. "But wait! Mr. Khan koh toh paata nahi hai keh maine khana banaya hai, aisa karti hoon main kuch nahi kehti," Zoya told herself. At that moment, Asad reached the dining table and took a seat. Zoya served him food and he started to eat. Taking the first bite, Asad knew that Dilshad has not made food. It tasted different. It wasn't Nikhat's cooking food either, he knew how that tasted. He looked at Zoya and instantly knew that she had made the food. He smirked but didn't say anything. Zoya waited till he finished his food and lastly, served him a bowl of kheer. She took the rest of the food and was going to put it away in the fridge. "khana tumne banaya?" she heard him ask and stopped in her tracks. "woh main...woh actually...Ammi ne kaha aur woh," she mumbled. "Zoya sirf ha ya na bolsakthi ho," Asad said. Zoya looked at him surprised. Asad and being witty, that was new. "ha maine khana banaya hai, aapko accha nahi laaga?" she asked. "khana toh accha tha lekin aur accha hosaktha tha," he told her. "Oh!" she said as her mouth formed an "o." of course Mr. Khan, the perfectionist, was going to expect more. "And there is an easy way to do that!" Asad said and she looked at him, confused. He took her hand in his and dipped her finger into the bowl of kheer he was holding in the other hand. "Mr. Khan aap yeh kya karahe hai?" Zoya asked trying to remove her hand from his grip. Asad bought her finger close to her mouth and licked the kheer off. Zoya felt a shiver run down her spine. "Now the kheer is delicious!" Asad said with a wink. He walked off with the bowl as Zoya stood there shocked, thinking about what has just happened. That night, Zoya lay on the couch watching the stars on the nightly sky. "yeh Mr. Khan pichle kuch dino kuch ajeeb hi behave karahe hai, paata nahi kya hogaya hai unne. Aur mujhe, mujhe kya hogaya hai? Jab bhi woh mere paas aate hai toh mera dil aisa dhak dhak kyun karne lagtha hai. Aur main chup kyun hojati hoon, mujhse kuch bola kyun nahi jaata," she mumbled to herself. "Main na kuch bhi sooch thi hoon, hum sirf dost hai," she thought. But, she remembered their kiss, the one on the cheek and the lips. "haina?" she said unsure as she looked at the sky.

The semester was almost coming to an end and it was the day for the seniors to leave for their trip. Every year, they all went on a 2 day senior vacation since they were all graduating. The bus was about to leave and Humaira was waiting for Haider. She wanted to meet him before he left. Suddenly, someone crashed into her from behind and she was about to fall back but someone caught her. She looked up to meet his cocoa colored eyes. "Hey!" he said. "Tum dihaan se nahi chal sakthe," she retorted back. "Aree I am sorry yaar, woh late horaha tha, aur jaldi mein dekha nahi," he explained. "it's ok, so excited?" she asked. "Yeah yaar, last college trip doston keh saath, ajeeb lagraha hai. I feel like bas kuch dino phele main yaha aaya tha masters shuru karne kehliye aur aabh ek hafte mein I will be done, time goes by fast," Haider said, happy and sad at the same time. "But you can plan your future now na, it will be fun to start working with your Abu and bhaijaans," Humaira said. "woh toh hai, imagine mera own cabin aur mere own clients," Haider boasted making Humaira laugh. Her smile disappeared remembering something. "Hey...kya hua?" he asked. "Woh tum chale jaoge toh main tumse mil nahi sakungi na," she honestly confessed. Haider too became upset thinking about the fact. "Humaira, please don't be sad," he told her seeing her gloomy face. "Tum mujhe jab chahiye phone karsakthi ho aur phir ghar bhi toh aasakthi ho, hum khabhi alag nahi honge," Haider said. Humaira smiled listening to his words. "Anyways, have a safe and fun trip. Apna khayal rakna," Humaira said. "Thanks yaar, bye!" Haider said. As he walked away to board the bus, Humaira thought about how these moments were only going to last a couple more days. Then, he would be gone! She was extremely scared to tell him what she felt. She had shared what she felt with Zoya and Zoya had told her that she should tell the guy though she didn't know it was Haider. Zoya had tried to ask her but Humaira had assured her that if anything did become serious, she would tell Zoya. "Kya main Haider koh baata doh keh mere dil mein kya hai?" she thought. "Lekin kya Haider bhi mere liye wahi mehsoos karta hoga?" she asked herself as she looked up to see him waving at her from his seat. She waived back as the bus made his way of the campus.

Chapter 27

The next day, the family visited some antique hills that were located near the farmhouse. Rashid had suggested that it would be good for Dilshad to get some fresh air. And Dilshad had agreed hoping it will give Asad a chance to Zoya. The family was climbing up and Zoya was with Najma. Asad was closely following behind. He was smiling listening to her continuous blabber. She suddenly tripped over a rock and fell back. "Allah miyan," she yelled for help. He quickly moved forward and placed his protective arm around her waist preventing her fall. Her arms comfortably went around his neck. "Tum samaal kar chal nahi sakthi," he said worried. She looked at him. She removed her hands and steadied herself. "Agar mujh par chilana hi tha toh bachaya kyun?" she said angrily as she pushed him away and walked off. "yeh ladki mujhe pagal kardegi," he muttered as he followed her. Dilshad who was watching this whole scene just shook her head. He watched her as she admired the natural beauty from where they stood. The way her auburn orbitals lit up when she was happy made his heart flutter. Later, the family returned and they were all shopping for things. Zoya and Nikhat were at a stall that was selling bangles. The tingling of the bangles matched her laughter. Asad saw her admire some bangles but suddenly her smile faded and she kept them back. She told Nikhat that she didn't like any of them and walked away. The family returned home and they were tired. Zoya suggested that they order pizza. "lekin Bhabhi...yaha kaha pizza milega?" Najma said sadly. "Agar pizza hota toh kitna accha hota," Zoya said dreamily. "Bhai, aapko doond na chahiye. After all aapke begum koh chahiye," Haider teased. Zoya giggled but as her eyes interlocked with Asad's, she looked away. Asad just shook his head as he walked away. "Tumare Bhaijaan na...akdu keh akdu! Pizza kaha se layenge," Zoya said annoyed as Najma and Haider chuckled. As they sat there chatting, time passed and Humaira too joined them. They heard the doorbell ring. "aabh kyon aaya hai?" Humaira wondered. "Main dekhta hoon," Haider said and left to check on the door. Minutes later, he returned. "Pizza!" Zoya exclaimed. Najma and Humaira covered their ears to protect them from her scream. Zoya quickly took the box from Haider and opened it. She took a slice and bit into it, "yummm!" she moaned. Everyone soon joined in and served them a slice. As she enjoyed her favorite, she forgot to see Asad at the door. He smiled looking at her. The way she was enjoying the warm, cheesy pizza, like a kid. She was looking innocently beautiful. Zoya was munching on her pizza when she saw him. She smiled and offered him a bite. She knew he was the one who had ordered it. For some reason, that fact filled her heart with warmth more than her stomach. He shook his head negatively. "Thank you," she mouthed to him and continued to enjoy her favorite food.

Later that night, the family was in the garden when Najma insisted that Asad sing for them. At first, Asad had bluntly refused but then he came up with an idea. He would sing for her. He was bad with words but his emotions had to be conveyed, then why not through music? Asad looked at his wife and agreed. He went inside and got the guitar, and started to play.

Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Raaste har dafaa, sirf tera pataa
Mujhse pooche bhala kyun hai
Naa main apna raha, naa kisi aur ka
Aisa mere Khuda kyun hai

Dheeemi dheemi aanch pe jaise
Dheere dheere jalta hai dil ye,
Beqarari kyun hai ye khumari
Kyun hai awaargi kyun hai har mod par
Naa main apna raha
Naa kisi aur ka
Aisa mere Khuda kyun hai

Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Raaste har dafaa, sirf tera pataa
Mujhse pooche bhala kyun hai..

Huaa nahi pehle kabhi yeh
Chuaa nahi dil ko kisi ne
Har aarzoo tu hi
Chain-o-sukoon tu hi
Main toh kahoon
Tu hi hai zindagi
Naa main apna raha
Naa kisi aur ka
Aisa mere Khuda kyun hai

Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Tu hi tu har jagah, aaj kal kyun hai
Raaste har dafaa, sirf tera pataa
Mujhse pooche bhala kyun hai
Naa main apna raha, naa kisi aur ka
Aisa mere Khuda kyun hai

Zoya was shocked when he ended the song. Throughout the song, his eyes drifted only to her and no one else. Her heart raced as the butterflies in her stomach flew everywhere in her body. He has done this for her? For her...her heart screamed in joy. Once he finished, he looked at her. She could see a genuine apology and a sincere hope for forgiveness in his eyes. She smiled at him. Asad was happy that she has at least smiled at him, that was better than what was going on from the past 2 days, he thought. The family too praised Asad and Dilshad knew why her son had chosen that specific song to sing.

When Asad was talking to the family, Zoya had slipped out of there. He wanted to talk to her. Asad excused himself and went to find her. She had left the room as she felt her eyes filled with tears. Zoya didn't know why she suddenly became overwhelmed. He was putting in so much effort for her. She has been questioning herself about her outburst with Asad. She didn't know why she has been so hurt that Asad didn't share his feeling with her. He had a right to his privacy and she shouldn't force him to do anything. It's not like she has told him everything anyways then what right did she have to be angry with him? But she wanted that! She desired an emotional connection with him. But why? She thought. These past two days, something felt amiss. She missed talking to him about her day and sharing her feelings with him. She didn't understand why it was so important for her? Why? Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard foot steps behind her. She quickly wiped her tears and turned to see who it was. Asad had looked everywhere in the house but Zoya was not anywhere there. He had walked out to look for her and found her in the backyard by the lake. She was sitting by the water, her shoes to the side as her feet were stroking the waves. As she saw Asad, she stood up and was about to walk away. "Please Zoya, just listen to me once! I have to talk to you," he pleaded. She didn't say anything but went back to the grass again. He was happy that she at least was ready to listen to him. Asad took off his shoes and took a seat next to her. He took a deep breath and started to speak. "Zoya, joh bhi hua woh galat tha, I am sorry. Tumari kohi galati nahi thi aur maine bina kohi waja keh tum par gussa kiya. Lekin jab maine woh naam suna toh mujhe paata nahi kya hogaya. Nafrat hai mujhe uss naam se!" Asad said raising his voice. Zoya could sense the bitterness in his voice. She looked at him confused. "jammy mujhe Tanveer bhulati thi," Asad declared as Zoya looked at him shocked. It all made sense. That's why he was so angry. She felt guilty for reminding him of the harsh times of his life. "I am sorry Mr. Khan, mujhe nahi paata tha," she said looking down to the ground. "No Zoya, please! Tume nahi paata tha. Aur maine tum par chila diya. Mujhe aisa nahi karna chahiye tha," Asad said. "Zoya, aaj se phele jab bhi maine tum par chilaya hai jab jab mera ateet mujhpar havi hogaya tha. Tumari kohi galati nahi thi lekin main apne aapko rok nahi paaya. You didn't deserve that, I am sorry," he told her. "It's ok Mr. Khan, don't worry about it," Zoya said. "aur Zoya, main tume apni zindagi ka issa (part) maanta hoon, bahut ahem issa. Main jaanta hoon keh main zyada bol tha nahi, shayad bolna chahiye but main tume meri acchi dost maanta hoon, saach mein," he said trying to convince her. Zoya smiled seeing his child like face. "Thanks Mr. Khan and you don't have to explain. Main hi shayad thoda hyper hogayi thi, paata nahi kyun," Zoya said. "tume haq hai," Asad told her. Zoya looked at him surprised.

They both were lost in each other's eyes. Zoya saw that he had meant every word he had said. Asad was elated to see that her old smile was back on her lips. After couple minutes, "kya main ussi haq se aap se kuch bol sakthi hoon?" Zoya asked. Asad nodded telling her to proceed. "Main jaanti hoon keh joh bhi hua aap keh saath woh bahut bura tha. Lekin aap kabh tak aise gussa hote rahenge. I know it's hard but try to let it go," she told him. "Itna asaan nahi hai Zoya, jab bhi beeti baato keh baare mein sooch tha hua toh yaad aata hai keh main kitna bewakoof tha keh maine kissi par itna baroosa kiya. Meri waja se Ammi, Abu, aur sabh koh kitni baatein sunni paadi thi," Asad scowled. "Aapne ek dost par baroosa kiya tha agar usne aapko dhoka diya toh iss mein aapki kya galati hai? galati thi usne ki aapka aur sabh ka baroosa thoda. Aur Mr. Khan uss ek insaan ki wajase aap apne aapko aur aapke apno ko kyun takleef deh rahe hai, it is not fair na," Zoya explained. Asad listened to her words but didn't respond. "Aur Mr. Khan main maanti hoon keh Allah joh bhi karta hai woh acche kehliye karta hai. soochiye Mr. Khan agar aapki shaadi usse ho bhi jaati toh kya aap aise ek insaan keh saath khush reha paate jisse paise rishtoon se zyada hemiyat hai. Aur shayad isse bhi zyada badnami hoti aapki aur ghar walon ki," Zoya said. She did have a point, Asad thought. "Tum itni baadi baat koh aise kaise simplify karsakthi ho?" he wondered. "You know Mr. Khan, maine khabhi mere Ammi ya Abu nahi dekha hai. pichle kahi saal se main unn dono koh doond ne ki kosish karahi hoon. Mere paas Ammi ek tasveer hai lekin Abu, Abu ka toh meri paas kuch bhi nahi hai," Zoya said sadly. "Jab humara nikaah hua toh mujhe ek nayi family mili. Mujhe yaha sabh ne itna pyaar aur apna pan diya keh mujhe aisa laaga keh shayad Allah miyan mujhe apne Ammi Abu se na milane ki kami puri karahe hai. issliye maine unne doond na chodiya. Agar mere paas itna accha parivaar hai toh mujhe nahi doond na tha meri Ammi Abu koh, waise bhi itne saal se nahi mile, I was tired of it all!" she sadly said as tears rolled down her cheeks. Asad took her hand in his softly caressing it. "I am sorry Zoya that you have to go through this all, I promise I will make everything fine," he told her. She closed her eye lids and more tears rolled down her cheeks. He moved closer to her and pulled her into a hug. "Please mujhe aise hi rehne dijiye," she said as she continued to sob. She felt protected in his arms. She felt like hiding in his arms gave her solace and she felt complete. Breaking apart after a few moments, "Mr. Khan kya aap please gussa nahi karenge? Jab aap gussa karte hai toh mujhe dar lagtha hai, I like you much better like this," Zoya said as Asad smirked hearing his words. "Main puri kosish karonga," Asad said and Zoya slightly smiled. "Mere paas tumare liye kuch hai," he said as he dug something out of his pocket. It was a small red color rectangular box. "Mere liye...thanks Mr. Khan!" Zoya said getting excited. Asad was happy to see her back to her usual self. She opened the box and was surprised to see the same bangles from the shop that morning. "yeh," she said looking at him. "tume pasand aaye the na issliye maine ley liya," Asad told her. She lovingly caressed the bangles. "Tum yeh kangan dekhar itni udaas kyun hojati ho?" he asked. "Aise hi kangan meri Ammi ne pehena hai uss tasveer mein," Zoya said. "Agar tum nahi," he said when she interrupted him, "nahi Mr. Khan, I like them! Aapne diya hai toh main zaroor pehanugi," Zoya told him. They both sat together under the sparkling moonlight. The water was moving in slow waves and it was quiet, breezy night. After few moments, Zoya felt chilly so she pulled her feet out of the water. Seeing her shiver, Asad removed his coat and placed it around her. Zoya thanked him with a smile. Though they sat in silence, they both were thinking about each other. Zoya was glad that Asad has shared something so personal with her. At least, it was a first step. She thought about the moment when he held her hand comforting her. The way it felt...perfect! Like that is how it was meant to be. Thinking about it, made her heart flutter. She felt a new emotion and desire fill her heart looking at him. Asad too was glad that Zoya had forgiven him. He had thought about what Zoya had said and was going to try to control his anger. She was right! Why should he hurt the ones he loved for people who didn't even deserve it. Allah has decided something good for him, after all Allah has bought her into his life. What else could he ask for when he had everything that he never imagined. As hard as it was, he had decided that he wouldn't tell her what he really felt at the moment. He has had the chance to know and understand her for all this time but she really hadn't. And she deserved that chance! After some time, they decided to go inside. Asad stood up and offered her his hand. "Friends?" he asked. She smiled as she placed her hand in his, "friends," she said. They walked inside with their hands intertwined just like their hearts were starting to.

The next day, the family decided to have a picnic in the afternoon before they leave in the evening to return home. They had everything set up by the lake in the backyard. Nikhat, Najma, and Zoya made some sandwiches, fruit kabobs, and chaat to enjoy for lunch. The family sat together on small picnic mats and Dilshad could see that Zoya was smiling. At lunch, Zoya served some fruit kabobs and sandwich for Asad and Dilshad noticed that too. She was happy to see that they had mended their fight and things were fine now. As they ate lunch, Zoya and Asad kept stealing glances at each other. After last night, they felt closer to each other. Asad really didn't like sharing his feelings with anyone, but her. She said all the right things that made him feel better in a weird sense. They all ate together and were chatting when Haider suggested that they play antakshari. Everyone refused saying they were tired. Najma suggested that they could play music. Zoya happily agreed. She pulled out her ipad and started going through her list of songs to play. She clicked on the song desi girl from dostana. "Oh that's my favorite song!" Haider exclaimed. He got up to dance and he pulled Zoya up to. Zoya was doing her thumkas to the desi girl lyrics and Haider was acting as if he was he was john from the movie. The family members were cheering and encouraging them except Asad. He was lost in his own world, that only consisted of Zoya. The way she was enacting the dance moves. The way her hair bounced back and forth on her shoulder as she swayed. Her innocence captured his heart. Haider went and pulled Humaira too to dance. She refused at first but after insisting, she too joined them. Asad was so lost in his beautiful wife that he didn't notice a pair of eyes looking at him. Someone coughed and Asad came back to reality. He turned see his mother looking at him teasingly. "kya hua Ammi? Aap theek toh hai?" Asad asked. "Main toh theek hoon lekin tume kya hua hai?" Dilshad teased. Asad felt his cheeks burn with color and Dilshad giggled at her son. "mujhe kya hua Ammi," Asad said. "yeh baat tume apne dil se poochni chahiye," she said. Asad pinched the bridge of his nose. "baata doh usse Asad," she said. "Ammi, woh main actually...woh," Asad said. Dilshad shook her head, "uh oh Asad, tum yeh woh actually woh se kabh aage baadoge. Sirf teen shabd hi toh haine keha doh Zoya se," Dilshad said as Asad just looked at Zoya and smiled.

Later that night, Asad and Zoya were in their room packing to leave the next morning. As she was folding her towel to place in her suitcase, "Mr. Khan main aapse kuch pooch sakthi hoon?" she asked. "yeah kaho," he said placing his personal items in the suitcase. "kal jab hum sabh wapaas jayenge toh kya hum dono kahi jasakthe hai?" she asked. "Ha Zoya, par jaana kaha hai?" Asad asked. "woh main aapko kal baatungi," Zoya said happily. Asad was confused where she wanted to go but he was going to fulfill her desire. He called the driver and told him to bring his car to the farmhouse tomorrow morning. He finished packing and started to work on some work related stuff on his laptop. About an hour or so later, he switched his laptop off and was about to go to bed when he saw her sleeping on the bed. Her head rested against the head board and she was holding a book in her head. He figured that she was reading the book when she fell asleep. He slowly removed the book from her hands and placed it on the night table. He wrapped his hand around her waist and moved her so he could fix her pillow. Asad then tucked her into the blanket and took the extra pillow and blanket and went to sleep on the couch.

The family woke up late and all were ready to leave. Asad informed Dilshad that Zoya and him were going somewhere and will join them later. After the driver bought his car, Asad told him to drive the bus back home. Zoya was dressed in jeans and a red top and waiting for Asad. Zoya along with the family were waiting in the living room. Haider and Farhan were loading their luggage in the car. Zoya saw Asad walking down the stairs and her nose scrunched up. "Uh oh mr.khan! aap office nahi jarahe hai, kya aap normal kapde nahi pehan sakthe," she said. Hearing this, everyone chuckled. "Yehi mere normal kapde hai," he said. Zoya walked to the stairs and met him in the middle of the stairs, stopping him in his way. Asad pinched the bridge of his nose, "Kya hai Zoya?" he asked seeing her stare at him. "Chaliye mere saath," she said as she grabbed his hand and pulled him upstairs. Minutes later, they reached their room. Zoya quickly opened the cupboard and pulled out a bag. "Yeh maine aap kehliye liya tha," she said. "Kya hai iss mein?" he curiously questioned. "Aisa mat dekhiye Mr. Khan, sirf jeans aur t-shirt hai, pehen lijiye...acche lagenge," she told him. "Par Zoya, yeh sabh main nahi pehen tha," he stated. "Oh come on Mr. Khan, main kyon sa aapse swim trunks pehen ke apne six packs dekhane kehliye keha rahi hoon," Zoya argued. He smirked listening to her words and she realized what she had said. Zoya felt her cheeks turn red as he looked at her. "lagtha hai aap meri six packs ki bahut fan hai," he teased. She blushed harder and he just laughed at her. "Aap yeh pehen lijiye, main neeche chalthi hoon," Zoya said as she quickly left. Asad thought about what Dilshad had told him the previous night. "Main jaldi Zoya koh apne dil ki baat baata dunga lekin main yeh kaise paata karo keh woh mere liye kya feel karti hai," he thought to himself. Zoya went back to the family and everyone wanted to know what had happened. "Surprise hai...wait karo," she told them. Everyone's eyes were glued to the stairs waiting for Asad. Few minutes later, Zoya broke out in a huge grin and everyone else were stunned. Asad was dressed in a dark blue jeans with a green T-shirt with white stripes. "wow Bhai...you look handsome!" Najma said happy to see Asad in his old clothes after a long time. "yeh toh meri Bhabhi ka asar hai, warna mere Bhaijaan itne cool nahi diksakthe," Haider said as he high-fived Zoya. Asad smirked as he slapped the back of his brother's head. "Accha aabh chalo, dher horaha hai!" Rashid said and everyone left. Seeing a separate car for Asad and Zoya, "wow Bhabhi...romantic drive huh?" Najma teased. "Shut up Najma, aisa kuch nahi hai," Zoya said. "Accha toh aapka Bhai koh masjid lekhar jarahi hai..akele akele," Haider said. "Main tumare liye bhi kohi doond deti hoon, phir tum bhi use lekar jaana akele akele," Zoya teased and that shut Haider up. Everyone giggled at Haider and Humaira just blushed hearing her sister's words. Soon, everyone got into the bus and Asad Zoya too started their travel.

Asad followed Zoya's directions as she wouldn't tell him where they were going. After about a two hour drive, they pulled into a drive way that led to a small white building which looked like a house. The sign on the grass read "golden home orphanage." Asad turned to Zoya. "kuch dino phele aapne mujhse poocha tha ne keh main Saturdays mein kaha jaati hoon. Main yaha aati hoon Mr. Khan," she said. Asad remembered asking her a couple weekends ago when he saw her leaving early on a Saturday. She had just mumbled something and ran off. He never questioned her about it after that since he believed that when she was ready, she will tell him. "meri Ammi ne mujhe yehi choda tha aur Abu ne yehi se mujhe adopt kiya tha. Jab bhi mujhe thoda waqt milta hai toh weekends pe main yaha aati hoon. Yaha aakar mujhe accha lagtha hai, meri Ammi khabhi na khabhi yaha aayi hongi na. Toh main unka ehsaad mehsoos karne ki kosish karti hoon," Zoya said sadly. Asad held her hand, "jaldi sabh theek hojayega," he told her. He didn't want to tell her that he had started to find out information about her mother. Though Baskar had gathered some information, it was nothing major. Asad didn't want give Zoya false hopes as she has already been unsuccessful in finding her mother before. He had decided that he wasn't going to tell her anything till he found out something concrete. Zoya just smiled at his words. "Chaliye mr.khan main aapko sabh se milati hoon," he said. They both got off and walked towards the house. Seeing Zoya, all the kids ran out and surrounded her. Zoya introduced everyone to Asad and then took him inside to make him meet Mrs. Sumitra Patel who was in-charge of the establishment. Asad started to talk to Mrs. Patel about expanding the building and fundraising and things like that. Zoya excused herself to go play with the kids. After finishing his conversation, Asad walked out to the back where the playground was. He saw Zoya playing with the kids. She was going down the slide with a small boy. Reaching the end, they both clapped their hands cheering the end of the ride. Zoya picked the boy in his arms and pecked his cheek. Asad smiled watching her. She was so good with kids. She will be a good mother, he thought. Mother to his children! He blushed at his own thoughts, running his hands though his hair, he walked over to join them. Asad didn't seem like a kids' person but he was actually having fun and Zoya could see that. She was really happy today. At first, Asad had shared something personal with her and that made her feel a better part of his life. She had always wanted to feel a part of his life not because they were bound by marriage but because they actually wanted to. Him opening up to her about his feelings meant a lot to her. And today, he was here where her mother was may be 22 years ago to leave her here. This place was special to her in some way and today, she had shared that with him."Ammi...aap jaha kahi bhi ho, main dua karti hoon keh aap mujhe dekh sakthi hai. Main khush hoon Ammi, bahut khush hoon Mr. Khan keh saath!" she thought smilingly as she saw Asad playing hide and seek with the kids.

So, how did you like the conversation between asad and zoya...good? Bad? Let me know what you guys think? Probably won't update this next week, going to be busy the next couple days with school and work. Thanks again for all your lovely comments and support...means a lot!

Chapter 14

Zoya was trying to pack her things as there were only few more days for her nikaah. She had mixed feelings. This house has given her so many memories. Though Razia had always hated her, Humaira has always been a amazing sister and support and Gaffur had been a good father. He had provided her with everything that a daughter should have. Yes, he was a little strict and reprimanded her for her lively nature and modern values, but at the end of the day, he had been a father to her. She will miss them! On the other hand, she had these new hope for a life with Asad. His family, the new relations and responsibilites made her a little nervous but she was also happy that she has gotten such a good husband and family to share the rest of her life with. She just hoped that Dadi will understand and accept her situation. Since yesterday, her mind wandered through dreadful thoughts. May be Dadi will reject her? And will it be right to go against her for this wedding? Allah miyan, please meri madad kijiye, she thought. And Mr. Khan wasn't making her crazy thoughts any better by not answering her phone calls. Her thoughts were interrupted with her phone ringing. She saw the name and got annoyed. "subhe se main itne phone karahi thi lekin nahi uthaya aur aabh phone karahe hai," she said to herself and cut the call. Asad was surprised when his phone got cut in the middle. She was mad, he thought. He quickly typed a message and sent it to her. "I know keh tum gussa ho, main subhe se busy tha. Sorry nahi bolunga lekin please mujhe tumse bahut zaroori baat. Answer the phone," she read it. The next minute, he called her and she answered on the first ring. "Kya huwa Mr. Khan? Dadi nahi maani?" she asked tensed. "Dadi maan gayi lekin mujhe tumse kuch aur bol na hai. peeche aake milo," Asad told her. "Mr. Khan aap normal insaan ki taara subhe nahi mil sakthe, kya aapko sirf raat mein baatein yaad aati hai," Zoya teased him. "I am waiting," he said as he ended the call. Zoya sighned. "Kya Allah miyan, mujhe hi milana tha aisa ajeeb insaan se jisse sirf raat mein baat karni hai," she told herself. Minutes later, she sneaked out of the house and met Asad leaning on the back of his car. Before she could say anything, "yeh tumare liye," he said handing her a hand full of candies. "Thanks Mr. Khan! Agar aap aise hi mujhe chocolates dehte rahenge toh aap phone nahi utayenge toh chalega," Zoya said beaming. She jumped on top of the car trunk and took a seat. He looked at her and she motioned him to take a seat with her. He nodded his head as a no. "Oh come on Mr. Khan, baitiye," she encouraged. He sighed. Stubborn wasn't she! He reminded himself as he jumped on the trunk with her.

They both sat on the car. Zoya was watching the stars, waiting for him to speak. Had something wrong happened? Why wasn't he saying anything? She thought. Asad, on the other hand, didn't know how to start. This was the part of his life that he had buried away. This was the part that he always ignored but today, here he was wanting to tell her what happened. Why? Because she had the right to know, his heart told him. And, also she told you everything from her past to start this relationship on a fresh slate, his mind supported. Didn't she deserve the same respect that she had given you and this relationship? Asad thought. Zoya could see his hands balled in fists and tension on his face. She placed her hand on his fist and he turned to look at her. "sabh theek haina? Agar aap baatana nahi chathe toh its ok," she said. "Nahi Zoya, main chathta hoon tume yeh baat maloom ho," Asad told her. "Lekin Mr. Khan...aap itne pareshaan...," Zoya was saying when he interupted her. "Teen saal phele mera nikaah hone wala tha," he said as she looked at him shocked. She felt as if a bolt of thunder had struck her head. Her hand squeezed his unsure if she wanted to hear what he wanted to say. "Woh meri best friend thi," Asad said as he started to share the most painful part of his life.

Her name was Tanveer. Asad, Tanveer, and Nikhat were friends since they were kids. They were each few years apart in age and their parents were best friends which made it seem like things were meant to be. Nikhat was Tanveer's cousin. Her parents were killed in a plane crash when she was ten and she lived with Tanveer and her dad. Nikhat and Tanveer spent most of the time in Asad's house. As they grew up, Nikhat had started to like Farhan. When the family found out, they fixed Nikhat and Farhan's marriage. During the ceremonies, Dilshad had suggested that even Asad get married. Asad didn't really care about marriage but for his mother, he had agreed. Tanveer's dad had bought the rishta and the family had agreed since they knew her since she was a kid and she was Asad's best friend. In Farhan's wedding, Asad and Tanveer were engaged. He was unsure about the relationship because he didn't love her but he did respect and trust her. She was his childhood friend and partner, may be he will learn to love her as something more, he had expected. After that, Asad had started to believe that may be Tanveer was the right choice for him. After all, she knew his family and understood them like her own. Who better than his best friend to be life partner? He had thought. But, he had been wrong! He had been decived by that same best friend. Asad has gone to London to finish his last year of MBA. They were supposed to get married once he returned. He had planned to return a week before he had told her to surprise her. But he was the one who had been surprised, more like shocked. He had bought flowers and walked into her house. He ran upstairs to her room and opened the door to find her in bed with someone else. Asad was shattered!. The girl he had taken to be his best friend and his life partner had deceived him. Not only him, his whole family. On being asked, she had told him that the only reason she wanted to marry him was for his money. The guy she was with now was more rich and was settled in America. The relationship had ended there and so did their parents' friendship. Tanveer had ran off with the guy to the US while her father had become extremely sick a year later and died. Everyone had taunted Dilshad and the family for making a wrong decision. They had told them maybe the family did something to make Tanveer take such a drastic step. Afterall, everyone knew her as a traditional, quiet, proper girl fit to be a wife of any man and perfect daughter-in-law of any family. The khan family didn't want to put a girl's honor in danger so they decided to tell everyone that the wedding has been ended and the reasons behind it were left for assumptions. The world had speculated and blamed the family with all sorts of reasons as to why it could have happened. "But I swear Zoya, she doesn't mean anything! I have no feelings for her. All I have for her is hate and I feel stupid for trusting her and making my family go through all this," he ended.

Zoya was shocked. How could someone be so cheap? How could she decieve such good people? For the first time in her life, Zoya felt hatred for someone and that too someone who she hasn't even met. And she knew very well how it felt to be blamed for something you havent even done. She felt Asad's hand curl up around hers. She could feel his anger. Zoya looked up to see his face turning red and the vein on his temple throbbing. She placed her other hand on top of their interwined hands. "I am sorry Mr. Khan, you didn't deserve that!" she said. "but, thanks Mr. Khan. Mujhe aap ne yeh sabh baataya, it means a lot to me." Zoya honestly told him. Her words soothed him. His anger seem to melt. "sorry toh mujhe kehna chahiye, I should have told you earlier." Asad said. "maine bhi toh aapko apne baare mein phele nahi baataya," she told him. "well I guess we are even then," he stated. Zoya nodded, "Mr. Khan, Dadi ne kya kaha? Woh saach mein maangayi?" she asked. "woh actually, maan toh gayi hai lekin unne thoda waqt chahiye, tume jaan ne kehliye," he honestly told her. "what? Phir toh pakka problem hojayegi," Zoya said. "kyun?" he asked confused. "Mr. Khan, come on! Dadi koh toh kohi susheel silent ladki chahiye hogi na jaise woh movies aur shows ki heroines hoti hai, aur main toh bilkul bhi waisi nahi hoon. Mujhe toh kuch bhi nahi aata, agar woh chai mangegi toh main woh garam paani deh dongi. Aur agar samose mangegi toh shayad kheema bhi nahi deh paungi. Main tehari bichari abla nari," Zoya exaggarted. Her hand was on her forehead and her face was sulking. Asad actually burst out laughing at her facial expressions. Her drama made him forget everything and just laugh, from his heart. Zoya was happy that she had made him laugh. She was hoping for a smile but this was even better. She just sat there staring at him. This was the first time, she had seen him laugh. This made her heart feel content for some reason. Catching her looking at him, "sorry," Asad said, thinking she was upset that he was laughing at her. "Mr. Khan agar aap aise hi mujhe sorry bol the rahenge toh main chocolate khake moti hojaungi," she said as he chuckled. "honestly Mr. Khan, main jaanti hoon yeh sabh aap kehliye bahut mushkil raha hoga lekin ek baat bolo," she said and he nodded. "hum humare beete hua kal koh badal toh nahi sakthe lekin usse accept karke aur usse seek le keh aage zaroor badh sakthe hai. Asaan nahi hai aage badh na lekin agar aap aage badh na chathe toh main aap ke saath ho Mr. Khan, main aapki madad karongi," she told him. They sat together hand in hand as time passed. Suddenly, they heard Asad's stomach grumble and Zoya giggled. "lagtha hai aap ne khana nahi khaya hai Mr. Khan. Chaliye kuch khate hai, mujhe bhi bhook lagrahi hai," she said. "kyun aap ne kuch khaya nahi?" he asked. "theek se nahi khaya. Woh aapne phone nahi utaya toh pareshaan hogayi thi aur jab main pareshaan hoti hoon toh mujhe bhook nahi lagthi. Lekin aabh jab sabh theek hogaya hai toh mujhe bhook lagrahi hai," Zoya told him as Asad smirked. "bahut raat hogayi, aabh kaha jayenge?" Asad said. "mujhe paata hai chaliye," she said as she jumped off the car and quickly got into the passenger seat. Asad had no choice. He too got off and got into the driver's seat.

Zoya told him the directions and Asad drove accordingly. He couldn't believe she had taken the matter so lightly and accepted it. She didn't push him for further details nor did they question him about why he hasn't told her before. She was different. She made things seem to be better than they were and that nature of hers was unique. Zoya was just happy that their relationship was starting on a clean slate. They now knew about each other's past and could move forward. She trusted him. She trusted him not to hurt her. May be it was because he had saved her before or not, she didn't know. It meant a lot that he had shared his painful past with her. She had come to know he didn't say much and the fact that he did open up to her, may be he was starting to accept this rishta. They finally reached a place on the highway. It was a punjabi dhaba decorated in colorful cloths and lights. It seemed like it was daytime and not night one o'clock. All the people, music, the lights, were vibrant and happy. "Zoya, hum yaha?" Asad asked. "Mr. Khan, yeh Pratap Bhaiya ka dhaba hai. yaha ka khana bahut hi baadiya hota hai, chaliye" Zoya said excitedly. They walked in and Zoya introduced Pratap to Asad. She ordered rice, dal, butter chicken, and some rotis for the both of them. Dressed in a maroon two piece night suit and bangs were pinned back, her face radiated under the moon. Looking at her made him feel alive. She had so much she had lost in life still she made others smile. Asad couldn't believe he was smiling and acting normal with her. He had expected her to be upset at him for hiding the truth about his past. But, she seemed so understanding and even had made him see a different point of view today. Soon, their food arrived and they both enjoyed together. Zoya ordered rasgulle for both of them as dessert. She took a bite and savored it while he just sat there looking at her. "kya huwa Mr. Khan? Khayiye na?" she said as she ordered him a bite. He was surprised but later smiled as he ate from her hands. As she finished eating, Pratap insisted that she sing for them as she had come with her to be husband. "nahi nahi Bhaiya, main kaise?" Zoya said. "Asad beta, tum kaho na. Zoya bitiya bahut hi accha ghati hai," Pratap said. "ghao na Zoya," Asad requested. Zoya smiled and agreed.

Na Kuch Poocha, Na Kuch Manga
Tune Dil Se Diya Jo Diya
Na Kuch Bola, Na Kuch Tola
Muskura Ke Diya Jo Diya
Tu Hi Dhoop, Tu Hi Chau
Tu Hi Apna Paraya
Aur Kuch Na Janu, Bas Itna Hi Janu
Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, Yaara Mein Kya Karun
Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, Yaara Mein Kya Karun

As she finished, all the people applauded along with Asad. "Wow...aap toh bahut accha ghati hain," Asad told her. Zoya felt touched. Till date, only Humaira had appreciated and supported her talent. Today, someone other than her sister has appreciated her and that too Asad which meant a lot to her. "Thanks Mr. Khan!" Zoya said with a smile. Later, on the drive back, Asad watched as Zoya indulged on the chocolates he had given her. For some reason, he felt relieved today after so many years. It made him more confident that telling her was the right thing to do. But, he was still trying to cope with her reaction. She was so relax about everything. He found it hard to believe that Allah had bought two poles apart people together, in a relationship that was supposed to be a life time. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't realize how they had reached home. "Zoya, ghar aagaya," he said. Turning towards the passenger seat, he saw her cuddled in the seat with sleep on her eyes. She had a bit of chocolate smudged at the corner of her lips which he bent down to wipe off with his fingers. He smiled seeing her sleep like a kid. He saw the chocolate was melting in her hands so he removed it and threw it away. He took some tissues and wiped her hands carefully. The night breeze blew her hair on her face. He carefully tucked her hair behind as not to disturb her. He debated what to do for a few minutes. Not having the heart to wake her up, he got down, went to the other side and fixed her seat so she can sleep peacefully. Climbing back into the driver's seat, he adjusted his seat too and closed his eyes.

Chapter 23

The next day Zoya started the first day of school. Zoya couldn't contain her excitement, she was way too happy. She dressed herself in the green anarkali that Asad had chosen for her. She stood in front of the mirror as she admired the dress. Her heart danced in joy thinking about the fact that this was the first time that Asad had chosen something for her. This thought bought color to her cheeks. She twirled around in front of the mirror happily. At that time, she noticed the hook of her anarkali come off. She reached behind her neck and closed the hook but the next second, it came off again. Zoya sighed. She wanted to wear this dress, Mr. Khan had chosen it for her after all. She walked out of the closet to see her husband in front of the mirror, dressed in a dark green shirt and black pants. She smiled at him. As she was about to walk out of the room, "Zoya," he called out, stopping her. Zoya stopped in her tracks and turned around, "jee Mr. Khan," she said. Asad had noticed the undone buttons of her anarkali so he had prevented her from leaving the room, but now what was he supposed to tell her. "Woh actually...woh Zoya...woh..," Asad hesitated. "Mr. Khan...kuch boliye na, mujhe school kehliye bhi nikal na hai," Zoya said, in a hurry. "Woh tumara...woh dress ki buttons," Asad told her. Zoya closed her eyes in embarrassment. "Ha, woh actually paata nahi woh ek hook band nahi horaha hai," she told him. "Ek...nahi doh," he informed her. "Kya? Allah miyan," she said shocked. Zoya was about to leave, "main band karoon?" he asked. She was stunned now! "Aap?" she said unsure. "Tum aise toh bahar nahi jasakthi hona," he told her. Zoya knew he was right. But, he will close her buttons? Allah miyan, aap hamesha mujhe aise ajeeb positions mein kyun dalte hai, she thought to herself. He stepped in front of her breaking her thoughts. She looked up at him and he spun his hand around in the air, telling her to turn in the opposite direction. Zoya nodded and did as told. He stepped closer and moved the few strands of hair that blocked his sight. Zoya felt lightening run through her body at his touch. She closed her eyes and placed her hand on her chest, inside which her heart raced. Asad cautiously closed one of the buttons and it stood in place. He then closed the top one but it came undone. "Zoya, mujhe lagtha hai keh yeh hook toot gaya hai, tum kohi aur dress pehen lo," he told her. "Nahi Mr. Khan, mujhe yehi pehena hai," she said. "Par kyun? Itni saari dresses haina, kuch aur pehen lo," he said. "Nahi Mr. Khan, yeh dress apne pasand kiya hai toh..." she stopped, realizing what she had said. Asad smirked. He bent down and tightened the hook in its place. She turned to face him and smiled. "Thanks Mr. Khan," she said. "No problem...waise yeh dress tum par bahut acchi lagrahi hai," he said honestly. She really did look beautiful in that dress. Well she looked beautiful in all dresses but today, there was something differnet. The joy in her heart radiated onto her face. "Accha, mujhe neeche jaana hai, school kehliye late horaha hai," she told him as she went to the couch, grabbed her things and walked out of the room.

Downstairs, Zoya really didn't want to eat anything but Dilshad insisted that she eat something. So, she fed Zoya some toast and a glass of juice. As Zoya was about to leave, Dilshad fed her some sweets and wished her for her first day. Zoya hugged Dilshad and thanked her. As Zoya was about to leave, Asad stopped her. She turned to see him desencding down the stairs. "chalo, I will drop you," he said. "par Mr. Khan driver aagaya hai, main chali jaungi," Zoya told him. "no today, main tume drop karta hoon," Asad stated. Zoya nodded. She was becoming familiar with his sudden erratic decisions and emotions. Asad and Zoya walked out and Asad told shyam to leave that he would drop Zoya today. Though he had checked his background before hiring him, Asad had a problem with trusting people so easily. And knowing Zoya, she was one who trusted anyone easily. He wasn't going to let anything happen to her. He liked the smile that was on her lips today. They drove in silence and Zoya contemplated on asking why he had insisted on dropping her. But, she didn't want to ask. Anytime she had asked him questions, she had seen him angry and that wasn't a site she desired to see. Reaching the school, as she was about to leave the car, "good luck Zoya!" he said. She smiled, "thanks Mr. Khan!" she replied and got off the car. Asad waited till Zoya walked in through the gates before leaving. Zoya went to mr. verma's office and collected the required paperwork for the class. She was a little less nervous than before now that she knew that she could teach. But, still a new class, new students, it was going to be a task to start teaching in the middle of the year. Zoya didn't know how the whole day passed by. When she left school, she walked out to see Asad at the gate again. "Mr. Khan, aap?" she said surprised. "Ha, chalo, ghar chalte hai," he said as he opened the passenger door for her. Zoya smiled, climed into the car, and thanked him. He sat in the driver's seat. "Tumara din kaise tha?" he asked. "Bahut hi accha Mr. Khan! Aap jaante hai saare bacche bahut hi pyaare hai," Zoya said with a grin. As he drove back, Asad just stared at Zoya and the way she spoke about the school, the kids. There was a glow of happiness on her face that clearly showed how much she loved her job.

Time started to pass, it had become a ritual for Asad to drop and pick up Zoya from school. She even teased him at times that if he was going to be her driver, why did he buy a car and hire shyam. He just ignored her taunts. The truth was that he loved seeing her so happy whenever she went and returned from work. Each time, her lips curved into a smile, he felt his heart flutter a bit more. She was slowly but surely becoming a part of his life. Seeing her smile, made him want to live again. He wanted to give a chance at life again. Each passing day, made him desire her a bit more. Zoya had learned to adopt Asad's habits. She tried to be a good wife. She woke up and got his clothes ready for the day. She had started to learn cooking from Dilshad and has even made him breakfast a couple times. Asad felt lucky to have her in his life. He thanked his mother silently for making him agree to the nikaah though he was hesitant. He was getting used to her childish behaviors and her pearl-like laughter which filled his room and life, day and night. She was beautiful than words can describe. Her eyes held this innocence that hardly anyone had anymore. The way she cared for everyone in the family, he knew that Allah been too generous on him. She respected and loved Rashid and Dilshad as her own parents. She scolded Rashid when he tried to eat sweets, being a borderline diabetic. She checked that Dilshad was eating healthy as she had high blood pressure. She loved his siblings, sometimes probably more than he did. The way she played with Imran becoming a kid just like him, the way she helped Haider in his studies, the way she taught Najma what was right and wrong as an older sister should, he liked it all. Whenever he yelled at her, he got her chocolates as a way of apologizing. The fact that she never told anyone what happened between them, good or bad, made him respect her a lot, and somewhere deep down, he had started trusting her. He felt his heart and mind weren't under his control anymore. His mind wandered in her thoughts all the time and his heart filled with desire each time he saw her. Asad tried hard to control his temptations because he felt that Zoya wasn't ready. Her combination of simplicity and maturity attracted him but he wasn't going to force her for anything she didn't feel ready for. It was a promise he had made to her and was going to uphold no matter what. Zoya on the other hand wanted to figure out Asad. He was complicated. She knew that he had a heart of gold. She had seen him care for her and protect her. She had seen how he helped those in need. He was a good son, a loving brother, and a great husband. But, he wasn't good with words. His silence was something she was still learning to read. She had also seen his anger. His erratic behaviors confused her. Sometimes, she didn't know whether her words would anger him or not. Zoya had also grown very close to the family. Dilshad was her favorite. She had become a mother that Zoya had always yearned for. Zoya shared her heart secrets with Dilshad and trusted her to keep them. Najma, Nikhat, and Zoya had become peas of the same pod. If these girls got together then the house was filled with laughter and their pranks. Dilshad couldn't be happier. Her biggest worry has always been Asad. He was different from her other kids. He never expressed what he felt and things have only gotten worse after the tanveer incident. But, she was seeing that change. She didn't miss how her son's eyes were glued to Zoya, watching her every move. She had started to see this sparkling twinkle in her son's eyes, and she knew that the reason for it was Zoya.

One such afternoon, the ladies were gathered in the living room after lunch. Zoya and Najma had returned from work and college earlier than usual. "Bore lagraha hai Bhabhi, chaliye kuch karte hai," Najma said. "kya karte hai? Zoya?" Nikhat asked. "dance competition," Zoya replied quickly as the ladies cheered. "Ammi...aap first," Zoya said. "kya? Main? Nahi nahi Zoya, iss umar mein!" Dilshad said. "aap umar thodi na huwi hai, aap toh abhi bhi jawaan hai," Zoya said causing Dilshad to blush. "aaye, main mar jawa," Najma teased looking at her mother's red cheeks. "tum sabh baade badmaash hogaye ho," Dilshad told her daughters as they all giggled. Suddenly, Zoya took her dupatta and tied it around her head and started to sing:

Aye meri zohra-jabeen, tujhe maalum nahi
Tu abhi tak hai haseen aur main jawaan
Tujhpe qurbaan meri jaan meri jaan

Ye shokhiyaan ye baankpan,
Jo tujh mein hai kahi nahi
Dilo ko jeetne ka fan, jo tujh mein hai kahi nahi
Eh meri zohra-jabeen

Tujhpe qurbaan meri jaan meri jaan

Zoya pulled Dilshad to the middle and started to dance around her. In the end, Dilshad too joined her and they danced together. Nikhat appaulsed and Najma whistled cheering the ladies. Dilshad chuckled as she hugged Zoya. Next, it was Nikhat's turn and she turned on aaja nachle. Then Najma performed on the song baby doll. Lastly it was time for Zoya. "Bhabhi you should perform on hit item song," Najma suggested, only to get a slap on her hand from Dilshad. "ouch Ammi!" Najma pouted. "tumne aur ek maar chahiye Najma, bahut badmaash hote jarahi tum," Zoya complained. "oh come on Bhabhi!" Najma pleaded. After much deliberation, Zoya agreed. Everyone cheered as Zoya started to dance on the song Asalaam-E-Ishqum. She started to move her body to the tunes and the girls also encouraged her. They were all too lost to notice two pairs of eyes watching them. Zoya was moving to the music when she suddenly stopped. Her eyes stuck to the door. The rest of the ladies were shocked to see Asad and Haider at the door. Zoya felt her cheeks fill with color and she hid behind Dilshad trying to save her. Asad was still lost in what he had just seen. Walking into the house, he saw her dancing. The way she moved flaunting her curvy body. The fun she was having. The way she was micmicking the actress who had oringally performed the song. Asad was so mesmerized that he didn't even realized that she had stopped moving. "wow Bhabhi...kya performance thi, you were looking hot, amazing!" Haider commented. Hearing his brother's words, Asad slapped his head. "ouch Bhai...saach hi toh bol raha hoon," Haider whined. "shut up!" Asad said glaring at his brother. Zoya hid her face behind Dilshad. Dilshad just smiled at Zoya and then turned to Asad. She noticed how Asad was watching Zoya. "aagaye Asad...tum change karlo, kuch dher mein khana ready hojayega," Dilshad told him. Asad just nodded still looking at Zoya and walked away. "Zoya, tum bhi jao beta!" Dilshad said. "nahi Ammi...Mr. Khan koh bahut gussa aaya hoga, aapne dekha na keh mujhe woh kaise dekh rahe the," Zoya said looking at the way Asad has just gone. "kuch nahi hoga Zoya, jao," Dilshad encouraged. Zoya nodded and followed Asad upstairs.

She walked into the room to see him sitting on the couch. Zoya walked up to him, "Mr. Khan woh actually hum sabh aise hi time pass kehliye dance karahe the aur phir Najma ne kaha toh main," Zoya explained believing that he was angry. He didn't say anything and Zoya kept blabbering. "mujhe nahi paata tha keh tum itna accha dance bhi karleti ho," Asad firmly stated. "ha Mr. Khan wahi toh main keha rahi ho...kya?" Zoya first kept talking without even realizing what Asad had said but stopped when she realized. She looked at him and he smirked. At that instinct Zoya knew that he was just playing with her. "Mr. Khan...aap!" Zoya said surprised that he was pulling her leg. Zoya started to laugh and Asad too joined in. Their laughter filled the room and emotions over took Asad. He stood up and moved closer to her. She stopped laughing and looked at his sudden move. He stepped forward and Zoya stepped back. He took one more step and so did she. She hit the wall and looked up at him. He moved close to her, "tum hamesha peeche kyun jaati ho Zoya," he asked. Zoya suddenly felt loss of words. His close proximity was sending lightening through her body. She felt her heart thump in her chest and her palms started to feel sweaty. She tried to speak but nothing came out. He moved closer and she closed her eyes. Asad wanted to tell her what she did to him. He had given up on life! He never thought he would feel his heart beat again. He wanted to live again. He wanted to live with her again. He desired to taste those luscious pink lips. He desired to make her his forever. He felt her shudder with his closeness. Asad wraped his left hand around her waist and his right hand slowly went towards her cheek. He caressed her cheek which had turned a strawberry red color. Zoya was losing herself. He inched closer wanting to taste those lips. He brushed her lips with his and she moaned in pleasure. As he was about to pull her into kiss, someone pushed the door and ran in. Asad and Zoya broke apart quickly. He glared down to see his nephew at the door. "chachi chachi!" Imran yelled. "Imran, kissi ke room mein knock karna chahiye first, maine tume kaha haina?" Asad said getting angry. "woh chachi se kuch pooch na tha," Imran said sadly. "kohi baat nahi Imran, bolo," Zoya said kneeling down to see Imran eye to eye. Imran smiled at chachi and explained how he needed help with math. "accha chalo, batao mujhe problems," Zoya said as she looked at Asad and walked out the door. Asad was confused at her reaction. Didn't she feel the same way he did? He didn't have a name for this turmoil inside him but at least he knew that he felt something. Zoya was thankful that Imran had come in time. She placed a hand on her pounding heart. "allah miyan...agar Imran nahi aata toh kya hojata tha. Aur kya main honi dehti," she thought. "kyun main Mr. Khan keh paas aate hi kuch kehne nahi paati. Kya hojata hai mujhe? Allah miyan kuch toh kahiye na, mujhe kuch samaj kyun nahi aaraha hai," Zoya said mentally scolding herself.

The next afternoon Humaira and Zoya decided to meet up. Since the wedding, they have been in touch but didn't really get a chance to meet. Humaira was done with college early and reached home. She waited for Zoya. Since they were little, Humaira always shared everything with Zoya. This new found feelings in her heart needed a name. And she needed Zoya's help. Zoya reached the house and excitedly ran up to Humaira. "humi...i missed you!" she said pulling her sister in a hug. "kaise hai bhaji?" Humaira asked. "bahut acchi...sorry humi. Kaam mein thodi busy hogayi thi. Oh semester ki beech join kiya hai toh," Zoya explained. "I am so happy for you bhaji keh Bhaijaan aap ko job karne deh rahe hai. main jaanti keh aap ko hamesha kaam karna chathi thi," Humaira said as Zoya smiled. "tumari college kaise chal rahi hai?" Zoya said. "don't ask Zoya! I have this professor, she is so rude and hard. I don't know kaise unke exams pass karungi," Humaira whined as they climed up the stairs. "tum Haider se help kyun nahi maang thi...I am sure keh he will help you," Zoya said. Hearing his name, Humaira felt her heart increase his speed and her cheeks reddened. "hey...tume kya huwa?" Zoya asked. "kuch nahi bhaji...bas aise hi," Humaira said as they took a seat on her bed. "aap waha khush haina bhaji?" Humaira asked. "ha Humaira main bhaut khush hoon. Waha sabh bahut acche hai aur Ammi hai woh toh best hai. main na unse khana banana seek rahi hoon. Aur Abu toh mujhe hamesha kulfi lakar dehte hai. Bhaijaan aur Bhabhi toh bahut hi acche hai. aur Imran toh he is a sweet heart...I just love him," Zoya told her. Humaira could see the happiness glitter in Zoya's eyes as she talked about her new family.

She was extremely happy for Zoya. She has seen first hand how Zoya was treated by her mother and had always hated it. She was happy that now someone loved Zoya like she deserved and took care of her. "accha bhaji yeh batao...aap honeymoon par kyun nahi gayi...jeeju ne kya yehi honeymoon mana liya," Humaira teased. Zoya turned beetroot red. "allah miyan...kya keha rahi hoon, chup!" Zoya said. "aap itna kyun sharma rahi hai bhaji," huemira said. "Humaira ki bacchi," Zoya said as she started to hit Humaira with a pillow. Gaffur has heard that Zoya had come so he went upstairs. Nearing the room, he saw Zoya playing with Humaira. He smiled as tears filled his eyes. He had never been able to give her the happiness and rights that she deserved. He was glad that at least now she had a family that truly has made her apart of their lives. He didn't have the guts to talk to her after what has happened on the wedding day and left from there. As they stopped the fight, "accha bhaji, mujhe aap ki help chahiye?" Humaira said getting serious. "kya hua humi?" she asked. "Zoya, tume yeh kaise paata keh tum Bhaijaan se pyaar karti ho?" Humaira asked. Zoya choked on the coffee she was drinking. "humi tum theek toh hona yeh kaisa sawaal hai?" she asked. "woh mujhe paata karna hai keh mujhe kya hua hai?" Humaira said. "tum theek se batao...you are confusing me," Zoya said. "I think I like somone!" Humaira said as Zoya looked at her shocked. "Kaise? Kyon?" Zoya asked curiously. "woh main abhi baata nahi sakthi. Pheli paata toh chale toh yeh hai kya?" Humaira wondered. Zoya giggled, "tujhe dekhar toh aise hi lagtha hai keh yeh pyaar hai," she said. Humaira blushed hard as Zoya laughed more. "bhaji...please hassi yeh mat. Aap nahi jaanti keh yeh sabh kitna mushkil hai," Humaira pouted. "yeh bhi hai," Zoya said. "accha bhaji...yeh baatayiye keh aapko kaise paata chala keh aap Asad Bhaijaan se pyaar karti hai?" Humaira questioned. Zoya felt her heart flutter at the words. Her...love...and Mr. Khan, aiso toh maine khabhi nahi soocha hai, she thought. "Tume kaise paata keh tum usse pyaar karti ho?" Zoya asked her sister. "Waise toh I am not sure but jab woh mere paas hota hai toh aisa lagtha hai keh zindagi aur khoobsurat hai, aur jab woh mere paas nahi hota hai toh main sirf uske baare mein sooch thi. Aur jab bhi woh mujhe galati se bhi chuleta hai toh mere dil ki dhakan itni tez hojati hai. Aur jab main uske baare mein sooch thi hoon toh I smile so big," Humaira went on while Zoya realized how all this reflected how she reacted around Asad and felt about him. "Lekin Mr. Khan koh toh main abhi jaane ki kosish karahi hoon toh main unse pyaar kaise karsakthi hoon," she asked herself. "Bhaji, kya kohgayi aap?" Humaira said, bringing Zoya back to reality. "Kuch nahi hai. Dekh humi agar tujhe apni feelings par baroosa hai toh bolde usse," Zoya said. Humaira nodded, "kosish karongi," she said. "good luck humi...agar tume kohi madad chahiye toh mujhe baatana," Zoya said as she hugged Humaira. A while later, Zoya left telling Humaira that she had to reach home and it was getting late, she wanted to get back before dinner time. "aabh bolungi toh bologe bol thi hoon...lagtha hai bahut laad lagaya jaraha hai sasural mein, paata nahi isse itne acche log kaise milgaye. Kuch toh karna padega, iss ladki koh main khabhi khush nahi rehne dungi!" Razia thought becoming furious to see a happy Zoya walk out of the house.

Will Zoya figure out what her heart is trying to tell her? What will Razia do to spoil Zoya's happiness? Will destiny play a joke with Asad again? Keep reading to find out!

I know that there wasn't a lot of Asya in this chapter but it was needed so the story could move forward. I promise that next part will be a lot of asya...will try to update in a couple days as I have already started writing the next chapter 😃

Chapter 26

It has been two days since the incident but Zoya wouldn't budge. She wasn't talking to him no matter how many times he tried. Dilshad had noticed the silence between Asad and Zoya, and most importantly how Zoya was just keeping to herself. That was not like her. She has tried to ask Zoya but she has just said that everything was fine and that Asad was just busy with work. Asad has just mumbled his way out as always. Dilshad was worried about them. She has bought these two people together because they had hoped that they will be perfect for each other. The fact was that they were! It was just that, they weren't able to see what was right in front of them. "Mujhe hi kuch karna hoga," she thought. That afternoon, Dilshad packed lunch for the Khan men and left for office. Asad was in a conference call when he saw his mother walk in with a tiffin. He looked at her and told her to give him five minutes using his hand. Dilshad nodded as she took a seat on the chair. Asad quickly finished his call and walked up to his mother. "Sorry Ammi, important call tha," he said as he bent down to give her a hug. "Kohi baat nahi, aao baito," Dilshad said and Asad took a seat next to her. "Aap yaha Ammi...kuch kaam tha," Asad said. "Mujhe tumse baat karni hai par tum phele khana khao, phir baat karte hai," Dilshad said as she opened the hotpack and placed the food in front of Asad. Dilshad waited for her son to finish eating. She didn't want to bring up the topic before he had eaten anything for the day. Asad finished eating and looked at his mother, "boliye Ammi," he said. Dilshad took a deep breath as she started to speak. "Dekho Asad, main jaanti hoon keh tumare aur Zoya keh beech kohi problem hai. Aur main yeh bhi jaanti hoon keh yeh tum dono ka personal mameela hai lekin mujhse tum dono ki takleef nahi dekhi jaati Asad," she said sadly. Asad pinched the bridge of his nose, not knowing how to answer his mother. Dilshad could read his son like an open book. She could tell that he was getting uncomfortable but she was determined to tell him what was needed to be said. "Tum jaante ho Asad, tum aur Zoya jitne alag ho utne hi ek jaise bhi," she said and he looked at her confused. "Tum dono ka ek ateet hai joh tumare aaj par havi hota hai. Lekin farq sirf itna hai keh Zoya apne beete huwe kal keh bawajod apne dil mein pyaar aur khushi lekar aage chalthi hai. Sabh keh saath khushiya bhaat thi hai. Aur tum, khamoshi aur gusse se. Par ek baat hai, tum dono yeh takleef apne andar rakte ho, khabhi ek dusre se share karke dekho! Dil halka hoga aur tum dono ek dusre keh paas aaoge," she told him. "Main yeh dekh sakthi hoon keh Zoya ki chuppi se tume kitni takleef horahi hai. Apni khamoshi thod doh Asad. Zoya koh apne zindagi mein sahi maiyine mein biwi bano Asad, usse tumari dil ki baat batao. Phir dekhna, Zoya kaise chehak utegi," Dilshad said. Asad just sat there trying to process what his mother was saying. He knew that she was correct, as always. "Zoya koh sirf ek galat faimi hogayi hai Ammi. Main aapse vaada karta hoon keh main sabh theek kardunga, please bas thoda waqt deh dijiye," Asad said. Dilshad smiled as she lovingly caressed his cheek. "Allah kare, tum joh bhi karo uss mein tume kamiyabi mile," she blessed and left from there.

That night, Asad returned home early planning to talk to Zoya. But, she was ignoring him similar to the past 2 nights. She kept playing with Imran or talking with Najma. Asad knew very well that she was trying to escape from talking to him. Dinner was a silent affair. Where Asad kept stealing glances at Zoya next to him, she was just focusing on the food though she wasn't really eating it. Zoya could feel his eyes piercing through her. But, she knew that if she looked into his brown orbs, she would lose. She didn't have the courage to let this go on any longer. She couldn't be silent and accept the way that this relationship was heading. The silence, precisely his silence, was slowly killing her inside and her patience has reached its peak. "Allah, yeh ladki itni ziddi kyun hai? I know keh mujhse galati huwi hai but I at least deserve a chance to explain. Samjayi iss ladki koh," he thought. It was dinner and Asad was losing his tolerance. He had decided that he would definitely talk to Zoya, by hook or crook. He has been very patient but he couldn't bear to see her like that anymore. Zoya finished putting the left over dishes away and was walking up the stairs. Asad was in the living room talking with Rashid and Farhan when he noticed her. He excused himself and started to follow her upstairs. He caught up with her. "Zoya," he said.

At that moment, "Ammi!" they heard Najma scream from the kitchen. Asad ran to the kitchen and Zoya followed. They walked in and were shocked. Dilshad was lying on the floor, unconscious. "Kya hua Najma?" Farhan asked worried. "Paata nahi Bhaijaan...Ammi achanak behosh hogayi," Najma said. Farhan and Asad carried her out to the car and they all rushed to the hospital. Nikhat and Najma were to stay at home with Imran. Asad rushed to the hospital and the staff placed her on a stretcher and took her in. Zoya felt her eyes fill with tears. "Allah miyan, please Ammi koh kuch na hone dijiye. Itne saalo baad mujhe ek Ammi milli hai...aap aisa nahi karsakthe, please meri Ammi koh theek kardijiye," she silently prayed. Asad could see the fear on Zoya's face. He was about to walk up to her but he knew that she might lose it emotionally if he pushed her over the edge. He looked at his brother and motioned him towards Zoya. Farhan saw Zoya's distressed state and walked up to her. "Fikar mat karo Zoya, Ammi theek hojayengi," he said. Zoya threw herself in his arms, "Ammi theek hojayengi na Bhaijaan...unne kuch nahi hoga na," she said sobbing. Farhan consoled her as he looked at Asad. Asad nodded acknowledging his brother and thanking him silently for taking care of Zoya. Asad knew what she must be going through. Out of everyone in the family, she was the closest to Dilshad. He knew that Zoya took Dilshad as her mother. The fear of losing a mother was clearly evident on her face. The doctor walked out of the room and all eyes turned to him with questions. "Doctor Dilshad kaisi hai?" Rashid asked worried. "Mr. Khan woh aabh theek hai. unka blood pressure bahut high hogaya tha issliye unne chakkar aagaya hoga," the doctor said. "par aise achanak?" Rashid said. "Paata nahi...shayad unne kohi pareshaani hai ya phir unone bahut heavy food khaliya hoga, we have given her medications and her blood pressure is under control. thodi dher mein aap unne ghar leja sakthe hai," the doctor said. Everyone smiled listening to the good news. "thank you doctor!" Rashid said. "aur Mr. Khan unka diet ka thoda khayal rakiye. I would suggest low sodium food, and avoiding red meats, and taking in lots of fruits and veggies," the doctor said. "jee doctor," Rashid said. Farhan and Asad went with the doctor to get the required paperwork. Rashid and Zoya walked inside. Seeing Dilshad, Zoya ran up to her pulled her into a hug. "laak laak shukur hai Allah ka keh aap theek hai, aap ne toh hum sabh koh dara diya tha," Zoya said. "Zoya, main theek hoon," Dilshad said, patting her hair. "Tum sabh ka khayal rakti ho Dilshad sirf apna nahi," Rashid worried. "mujhe kya hona hai Rashid, aap sabh haina mere paas," Dilshad said. Rashid took her hand in his and slowly caressed it. Soon, Farhan and Asad returned and they all went home.

That night, everyone was worried about Dilshad. Sleep was not on their minds. Dilshad has been given medications so she has fallen asleep pretty quick, once they returned. All the other family members gathered to pray for her. All night, they all read namaz and the holy Quran for Dilshad's wellbeing. It was almost 4 in the morning when they all decided to rest for a bit. Breakfast was a late affair that morning. Zoya has taken breakfast for Dilshad in her room but she has insisted on eating with everyone. Zoya bought her down and placed her healthy breakfast in front of her. "yeh kya hai?" Dilshad whined. "Ammi...aaj se aap koh sabh healthy hi milega, aur aapko khana bhi padega," Zoya ordered. As the family were eating, "Dilshad...main sooch raha tha keh kyun na hum sabh kuch dino kehliye humare farmhouse jaake rahe. Tumare kya khayal hai?" Rashid asked. "yeh toh bahut acchi baat hai Rashid, bahut din hogaye. Accha rahega," she said. "Zoya kya tume thode dino kehliye raaza mil sakthi hai?" Rashid asked. "main aaj principal se baat karti hoon Abu," Zoya told him. After breakfast, everyone left for work except Nikhat and Rashid who stayed home with Dilshad. Zoya explained to Mr. Verma about Dilshad's health and asked for the next two days since after that was the weekend. Mr. Verma understood her situation and granted her absence. Once Zoya returned and informed the family, everyone started to pack. Asad was happy that they were going away from here. May be at the farmhouse, he would get a chance to talk to her, he hoped. Rashid has suggested inviting Humaira too and Haider was happy to hear that. At first, Gaffur was hesitant but after Humaira pleaded, he had agreed to let her go. Humaira was estatic to spend time with Zoya, and most importantly Haider.

The next morning, Haider was sent to pick up Humaira since the farm house was closer to the khan mansion. Humaira was dressed in a maroon and white anarkali and she checked her herself one last time, before coming downstairs to the living room. Haider was having coffee and talking with Gaffur. He looked at her and smiled. Later, they both said good-bye to Gaffur and Razia and left. As they walked out, "wow Haider, tum bike laaye ho?" Humaira exclaimed. "Yeah mujhe paata hai tume bike rides pasand hai...chalo," Haider said as he hopped on the bike. "You remembered," Humaira said happily as she sat behind him. "theek se pakad lo, gir mat jaana," Haider teased as Humaira slapped his back. She wrapped his hands around his waist as he started the bike. Haider smiled feeling her hands around him. They left for the khan mansion. As they reached the khan villa, they saw the family outside getting ready to leave. The family had pulled out their mini bus that they usually did for family trips. Asad was scheduled to drive and he was hoping that Zoya would get into the passenger's seat. Zoya walked out with Najma, "Najma tum yaha bait jao, main peeche bait jaungi," she said. Najma looked at Zoya surprised. "Come on, late horaha hai," Zoya said as she got in the back. Asad glared at her though the rearview mirror but she ignored him. During the driver, Zoya tried to act normal with the family but Dilshad and Humaira noticed her gloomy eyes. They knew she was hiding something. After about a four hour drive, they reached the farmhouse outside the city. Zoya got out of the bus and smiled at the scenery. It felt so calm and peaceful. In front of her stood a huge white bungalow (the one that aahil and sanam go to in the show where she gets stuck in the washing machine). In front was huge garden that had different types of roses, lilies, tulips, etc. The family went inside and settled into the rooms. Rashid told them to freshen up and meet in the living room. Minutes later, the family met in the living room. Haider suggested for volleyball match and everyone got excited. "main nahi khelonga, I am going to sit with Ammi and Abu," Asad said. "Oh come on Bhaijaan, hum vacation pea aye hai. let's enjoy!" Haider said. Asad still didn't agree. "Chodo Haider, tumare Bhaijaan dar gaye keh woh hum ladkiyo se haar jayenge," Zoya teased as the girls laughed. "Asad, aabh toh izzat ka sawaal hai, maan jao," Farhan suggested. Asad looked at Zoya who was standing her with her hands on her hips and her eyes were full of tease. For a moment, she had forgotten about their fight, the argument...everything and was back to her usual self. "Agar aisi baat hai toh theek hai, challenge hai! Agar ladkiya haar gayi toh wohi karna padega toh hum kahenge," Asad said looking at Zoya. She looked at him surprise. He was challenging her for a game, she thought. "Aur agar aap log haar gaye toh wahi karna padega joh hum kahenge," Zoya retorted back. Everyone agreed. On one team was Najma, Zoya, Nikhat, and Humaira and the other team was Rashid, Farhan, Asad, and Haider. Dilshad was going to be the judge and Imran as the score keeper.

Soon, they all changed into something more comfortable so they could play. The game started with the girls serving first. Asad's eyes seemed to glue themselves to Zoya's every move. She was dressed in yoga pants and a loose, full sleeve t-shirt. As her body moved to the rhythm of the ball, her ponytail bounced back and forth. Her every move made his heart thump faster. On the other hand, Humaira was lost in the man in front of him. He was in a sports shorts and a black t-shirt. She could see his toned muscular body as the sweat trailed through his abs. As she was busy staring at him, she totally missed the ball that was coming towards her. "humi...humi!" Zoya called out but it was too late and the ball hit her. Everyone was shocked as Humaira fell to the ground. Haider came for the other side and helped her up before anyone could even reach that. "Are you ok?" he asked. "Yeah...ouch," she said rubbing her head. "humi...kaha kohgayi thi, main kabh se tume bhula rahi thi. Tum theek ho?" Zoya asked concerned. "Ha Bhaji, woh main kuch sooch mein kohgayi thi," Humaira said as she looked at Haider. "Tum andar chalo, I will get you an ice pack," Haider said as he took her inside. "Ha chalo, bas game bahut hogaya," Nikhat said. "Aree nahi nahi Bhabhi, aap log kheliye, main theek hoon," Humaira said. After much insisting from Humaira, they all agreed to continue the game while Haider took Humaira inside. They were playing for the last point and it was Zoya's turn to serve the ball. Asad was in the receiving position. She looked at him and he smirked. She looked away and took the ball in her hand. She threw the ball in the air and put her hand in a fist, and hit the ball. His eyes were fixed on her. She had her hands folded in prayer hoping he would miss it. "Paata nahi jeet gaye toh mujhe kya karvayenge...Allah miyan, Mr. Khan ball miss karde, please Allah miyan," Zoya hoped. Asad saw her and he knew exactly what she was thinking. He let out a little chuckle at her childish behavior. Asad could easily get the ball back on the other side of the net. But, he missed it! He missed it intentionally to let her win. Seeing him miss, she jumped in excitement. "Yay...hum jeet gaye!" Zoya said as the girls got into a group hug. Asad smiled seeing her happy. "Tume khush dekhne kehliye main baar baar haar saktha hoon Zoya," he thought to himself. "Kya Asad...dihaan se khelna tha na. aabh paata nahi yeh ladkiya humse kya karayengi," Rashid told him. "Humari toh band bajne wali hai aur sabh tumari wajase," Farhan said. "Sorry Bhai, galati se miss hogaya," Asad stated. A while later, Humaira joined them back. "Aabh hum sabh koh aapki saza denge," Najma announced as the men just looked at them worried what was coming their way. "ek minute Najma, kuch sooch kar denge," Zoya said. The men just looked at each other. Farhan signaled Rashid to speak. "Aree beta...aabh family members mein kya saza, kya deal, chodo. Chalo andar chalte hai, lunch bhi toh karna hai," Rashid said trying to avoid any bizarre punishment that the ladies might come up with. "No Abu, a deal is a deal na. saza toh milegi," Zoya said. The girls all discussed their plan for a few minutes and turned to the men with sweet smiles which revealed their evil intentions. The men were now scared. They told Zoya to announce their plan. "Toh saza yeh hai keh aap sabh humare liye lunch bana yenge," Zoya announced as the men looked horrified. "kya? Yeh kaise saza hai?" Farhan said. "saza hume dehna hai toh hum faisla karenge," Nikhat replied. "lekin...," Asad said when Zoya interrupted, "agar aap logo koh kohi problem hai toh hum saza mein dinner bhi add karsakthe hai," Zoya teased. "nahi nahi...lunch hi kaafi hai," Haider said as the ladies including Dilshad burst out laughing.

The men were all dressed in their aprons and chef hats as they try to navigate their way through the kitchen. They all divided up the responsibility of making lunch: Asad was to cut the vegetables, Rashid was making the koftas, Farhan was responsible for the rice and dal, and Haider was to make rotis. The ladies were relaxing in the family room watching a movie in their home theater. Though the movie was playing, they could all hear the uproar from the kitchen. Zoya kept glancing towards the hallway that lead there. She had come up with the idea but now she felt bad. What was happening there? Will they be able to cook? She thought worried. Hearing one more crash from the kitchen, she has had it! She excused herself on the pretense of having water and went into the kitchen. She was shocked to what was happening. There was flour everywhere, even some on Haider's head. There was scraps of onions and vegetables on the floor. Farhan was struggling with the pressure cooker. Seeing all this, a chuckle escaped her. The men shot their eyes towards her. "woh woh main...aap logo koh kohi madad chahiye?" she asked. "No thank you, hum karlenge," Asad said. "Fine, mujhe laaga keh kuch help kardo. But, lagtha hai hum sabh haade (half) ghante mein aapko dining table pe milte hai," Zoya said angrily. Here she was trying to help him and she was getting attitude, she thought. "Zoya, ek minute! Please humari help kardo," Farhan said ignoring the glares from Asad. Zoya turned around to make sure no one was coming. She would be in so trouble if they found out she was helping them. She walked up to Farhan and saw a white, mushy something in the pan. "Bhaijaan...yeh kya hai?" she asked unable to guess. "It was supposed to rice," Farhan said sadly. "kya?" Zoya said shocked. "Allah miyan, yeh khana kaise khayenge hum sabh. Aap ne kitna paani dhala?" Zoya asked. "ek cup chawal kehliye chaar cup paani," Farhan explained. "nahi nahi, ek cup kehliye sirf doh cup paani lagtha hai," Zoya said. "oh...oops," Farhan pouted like a kid. Zoya giggled. "accha, theek hai. aap phir se bana dijiye," Zoya said. Farhan went and got some more rice and placed the right amount of water and started to cook it. Zoya also helped him with the daal and fixed it.

She was about to help Rashid with the koftas when she heard Najma calling her name down the hallway. "ya Allah...lagtha hai woh log mujhe doond rahe hai," Zoya said. "Bhabhi...aap yehi rahiye main dekhta hoon," Haider said and walked out of the kitchen. Haider told Najma that Zoya wanted some fresh air so she went to the backyard. Najma believed him and left. Haider returned and told Zoya that the coast was clear. Asad just shook his head not being able to believe that was going on. He was pretty sure that this was all Zoya's plan to begin with. And, now she was here helping them. The more time he spent with her, the more crazy he thought she was. Zoya saw the dough of the koftas were really watery. She had seen Dilshad deal with this issue. "simple Abu...iss mein thode bread crumbs mix kardijiye aur yeh theek hojayega," she explained. Zoya also instructed Asad how not to cut the vegetables and he just glare at her. Rashid beamed at his daughter in law and did as she said. About 20 minutes later, the kitchen and the food had looked lot better than what Zoya started with. Rashid, Farhan, and Haider grinned at Zoya, "thanks Zoya, paata nahi agar tum nahi aati toh hum kya karte," Rashid said. "it's totally fine Abu! Aur I am sorry. Maine hi soocha tha keh aabh sabh koh khana banana chahiye lekin aap sabh koh itni takleef hogi toh main aisa khabhi nahi karti," Zoya said sadly. Asad looked at her surprised at her honest confession. "Ajeeb ladki hai, khud hi saza dehti hai aur phir khud hi help bhi karti hai...pagal!" he thought as he chuckled. "What's funny Mr. Khan?" Zoya asked angrily. "kuch nahi...sorry," he mumbled as he got up and left. "Akdu!" she said to herself as she stomped off the kitchen. A little while later, the men served the ladies what they had bought. Rashid had even made something healthy for Dilshad with the help of Zoya which he served her. "Tume yaad tha Rashid," Dilshad said lovingly. Rashid looked at Zoya and smiled. "yeh dal toh bahut acchi bani hai," Nikhat said. "after all maine banayi hai," Farhan told her and Zoya giggled. Soon, the men too joined them and they all had lunch together. The rest of the evening passed as the family watched a movie together. They all went to bed early as they were tired from the travel. Asad has been on a phone call for work and when he returned, he saw Zoya asleep on the couch. "kal kuch bhi hojaye main tumse baat karke rahunga," he told himself. Soon, he too fell asleep tired from the long day.

I know not a lot of asya scenes but the family scenes are also important. I don't know...I am not too sure of this chapter. For some reason, I am not fully satisfied with it 😕😭😭. I tried to change it but didn't like that either so changed it back again lol. But, I am going out with family for the next couple days so I didn't want you guys to wait. Hence, here is the update 😊. I hope you all like the chapter! Looking forward to your comments. And I promise, next chapter has some pretty cute asya moments hehe. 😛😆
