Eleven
Over the next week Asad went to see how the work was progressing every day, on the days that Zoya worked at the school he made a point of picking her up.
During this time Asad and Zoya became so much closer as friends, and he had become a much known face in Ram Nagar. When it came to his in his personal, well no one could understand what was going on. Zack had never had so many laughs with Asad and Mona was falling off her chair practically every day and Arif had never looked so confused.
'Waiting for a certain Mr Khan are we?' Ruby teased 'may be' 'Zoya, can I say something...no actually I want to ask something' 'ask...since when have you ever needed permission to open that motor mouth of yours' Ruby pretended to gasp 'I do not have a motor mouth' Zoya started laughing 'ok...what is it you wanted to say or ask'.
Ruby sat down and took her hands into hers 'you and Asad have become so close over the last month or so...and I can see how being with him or around him lights you up with happiness...Zoya...ummm what I wanted to ask was' Ruby continued to hesitate, she wasn't sure if she should ask but she didn't have to as Jai walked in asking her the question she couldn't.
'Zoya, what she is trying to ask is do you love him, is this relationship more than just being friends?' Zoya sat still as she felt her body go cold. Ruby looked up at Jai with wide eyes, almost telling him off silently.
'No need to look at me like that Ruby, I already told Zoya she loved him, and that was over two weeks ago...isn't that right Zoya'.
Ruby looked between the two of them wide eyed 'you have already had this conversation...how comes I was not a part of it?' she said annoyed 'because at the time Zoya told me I was being stupid...but I am sure she won't say the same now'. Jai sat next to Zoya and put his arm around her "tell us Zoya, what's going on, is it all what it seems to be?'
Zoya's lip trembled as she tried to speak, her insides started to go into a frenzy with her heart dipping, her stomach summersaulting and her head spinning 'y...you two are crazy...I have no idea what you are talking about...please' Zoya lowered her head and let her hair fall forward covering it.
Ruby looked up with Jai 'Zoya...please look up...talk to us' Zoya freed her hands from hers and wrapped them around her, Ruby hugged her back 'its ok Zoya...if you don't...' 'I love him, I love him with all my heart' she said with a broken voice.
In all the time they had known Zoya she had never cried, and today her eyes shed tears. But these tears were not filled with sadness but relief. Relief that she had been able to give a voice to her inner most feelings and express what she wanted to. Ruby and Jai smiled to no end 'Ya Allah...I can't believe our Zoya is in love...this is...I'm so happy for you' Ruby said as she caressed the back of her head. Zoya pulled back and wiped her tears, laughing out nervously 'ok...so now you know...now what?' 'Now you tell him' Jai said.
Zoya turned to him 'are you crazy, I would never be able to...I know that I love him...but what he thinks or feels I have no idea' 'of course you do...Zoya you feel him like no other person can or ever will. We have seen the way he looks at you the way he is around you...and Ya Allah if only you could see into his eyes Zoya all you see is the love and respect he has for you...I don't doubt for a second that that man doesn't love you'.
Where Zoya had her best friends trying to persuade her a few miles away in the four wall of his office Asad was having a similar conversation with his mum. Asad told Dilshad about Zoya; the way he spoke about her Dilshad knew that Asad harboured feelings for her that went beyond the what was defined as friendship.
'Ammi, I can't believe I am saying this...but I am actually scared...Ammi what if she doesn't feel the same, what if I scare her away...I wish you were here Ammi'
Dilshad's eyes moistened 'I am so sorry beta...' 'No Ammi...please I didn't mean...please don't say sorry...just tell me what to do'
'Take her out...sit down, close your eyes remember Allah and ask Him to give you the strength to say those three precious words...Asad, in all your 26 year I have never known you to make any friends outside your working environment, you have only ever had Zack...and today...look at you. Beta you have fallen in love...this is not the time to be scared but to stand up and go after what you believe in...you have to tell her'. Asad let out a deep sigh 'I will Ammi; I will call you soon, Allah Hafiz'.
Asad sat down leaning his head against the back rest of his chair he had never felt so many emotions before, some he could control and others just seem to take over making his insides constrict and churn all at the same time.
'Mona...can you please come in' Mona quickly picked up her note pad and went to his room 'yes, sir' 'Mona I want you to clear my diary for the rest of the day...and I don't want any calls' 'sure sir...umm is everything ok?' she asked hesitantly 'I am fine...that'll be all'. Mona turned around to walk out when he called her back 'Mona...I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound rude' Mona shook her head slightly to make sure she was actually awake. Asad let out a chuckle 'you don't have to look at me like that...I am not an Akdu all the time' Mona's mouth opened wide 'S...sir...' Asad stood up and walked around the table 'you think I don't know what you guys call me...its ok...everyone is entitled to a nickname...go on...off you go' Mona smiled at him, and for the first time she didn't feel nervous or scared 'thank you sir, I will clear your diary'.
