Haya and her condition

Well, I dont mean to put anyone down or anything, just wanted to say anyways.
The use of Deaf and dumb is consider offensive to deaf people. Because of the word dumb associate with it. It give sense of being deaf mean dumb too. So, i don't like how some people use it to describe the condition, it is not right. I get that Haya is unable to hear and make sound; but she have the brain of normal people so far; so better be describe as "Deaf and mute" instead of "deaf and dumb". I just wanted to make this clear. Because I am deaf myself, and I am not dumb.

I am wondering about the surgery that Sanam was talking about. Surgery for what? Did Sanam explain about it more? I mean if it is about hearing or other; then it is not necessary. but i will hold the it till the writer explain more about it and about how Haya lose her hearing.

I dont like how they are making Haya to be dependent upon lipreading all the time. Yes, they are using bit of sign language here and there but it is not enough. If the surgery is for deafness, then it is far far better if they put more effort on communicating with sign language than a surgery. It is sad thing when most people think of deafness as something that need to be fixed when in reality, it does not. It is the society and communication that needed to be worked on not the other way around. I hope the writer does not take the route where they portray that deaf people cannot do anything because she is unable to hear; but it is not true at all. Deaf people can do anything but hear.

I could go on and explain more. But for now I wanted to make a clarification on the use of that words.

Nice post dear. i have great respect for people like you who don't let anything keep them back. I cannot imagine life without my senses (sight, hearing etc) and the people who are not without one or the other is really admirable and commands a great respect.

I really looking forward to Haya's Character.

I dont like it either how people are referring to her as "dumb" ... even deaf is not an appropriate word to use, the correct term is "hearing impaired"

Well, actually, Deaf is much more preferred word than hearing impaired amongst deaf culture; but it depend on the individual. But the dumb word, it is horrible. The initial use of the word "DUMB" Aback in those day was used because "no talk, no hear mean less intelligence" thought. I absolutely detest it.

Thank you!! Though being deaf is not horrible if one have good communication and understanding.

I am also looking forward to her character; I just, just hope the writer does not go the route" she is deaf that why she is miserable, weak, etc".

The thing is what operation are they talking about. Is it because of her hearing? or vocal cord? Because if it is her hearing, as far as i know, no operation can undo hearing level. Even if she could talk, she would still need sign language to communicate. if the operation is for bringing voice back, but then bringing voice back wont make things easier for Haya, because she would be still deaf. And that why the family need to work on their sign language. Because no matter how her voice is, she will be still deaf.
