Yes Boss: Part 36
Zoya flinched a little before rubbing her eyes, the sound of the closet door swinging waking her up from her sleep. She yawned languorously and batted her eyelids sleepily, as her eyes adjusted to the morning sunlight. That's when she noticed Asad dressed in his signature office attire, pulling a tie out of the closet.
"Aap kahan jaa rahe ho?" Zoya asked as another yawned came without warning, and she covered her mouth with her hand until it stopped. Asad swung the tie around his neck and began tying it silently, his back still facing her as he faced the open closet.
"Office," Asad answered curtly, as he turned around to face her briefly, slamming the closet door behind him loudly. Zoya frowned at him as she dragged her body upwards into a sitting position, crossing her arms across her chest. She had half a mind to tell him that nobody goes to work the day after their wedding, everyone would think he's nuts. But then again, he was the boss. It was his company and his employees; he could do as he pleased.
Asad walked towards the door slowly, waiting for Zoya to say something... anything. But all he was met with was silence. He placed his hand on the doorknob and turned it, when finally he heard something. He paused for a second, before pulling the door open angrily. She was intentionally yawning audibly!
"You don't need to come to work. You can stay at home and... yawn," Asad spat out viciously, before walking out of the door and slamming it behind him, leaving her no opportunity to retort. He closed his eyes tightly and gritted his teeth to calm himself down, the anger frying his brains inside of his head.
Zoya fumed as she stared at the closed door, her mouth hanging open in a slight gape, before finally throwing her covers and leaping out of bed. She'd tried to remain nonchalant just to make him mad, but his last statement pissed her off instead. What did he think of himself?! And what did he think of her! Did he really think she was going to sit at home and laze around just because she was married now? No way, she wasn't that kind of person, and she was going to show him.
Zoya marched to the bathroom confidently, slamming the door behind her. Seconds later, she walked out sheepishly, realizing that all her stuff was still in her own room, including even her toothbrush. Straightening up her shoulders again, she marched out of the room, walking towards her own. Oh she'd show him alright.
A little before lunchtime, Asad found himself staring at the papers on his desk blankly. After their little spat this morning, how was he going to get her to sign this? He growled out loud in frustration before pushing his chair backwards and standing up. He needed more coffee. Only that would help.
Asad stepped out of his cabin, just to earn a whole load more strange stares from his employees, just as he had when he first arrived in the morning. He rolled his eyes and continued walking towards the pantry, ignoring their inquisitive looks. Then he heard something, making him stop short. Was that Zoya's laughter? He couldn't possibly be imagining that. He turned to the door of the technical department, where the laughter was coming from. It had to be her.
"Aapi, jiju aur unke baingan ke kisse kabhi khatam hi nahi hote! Mere nikaah ke mubarak mauke par bhi baingan?!" Zoya said laughingly into her phone, turning round and round on her rolling office chair. As she turned yet again, she caught sight of someone standing at the door. Quickly saying her goodbyes, she disconnected her call and finally stopped spinning her chair, just to find Asad standing there with his arms crossed.
"Aap office main kya kar rahi ho? And why are you dressed like that?" Asad asked, once he'd gotten her attention. He eyed her outfit openly. She'd gone back to dressing in formal office wear, like she did on the day she tried to ride a bicycle to work. Sure, she looked good in it, but what was up with her?
Zoya stared at him with a straight face for a few long seconds, before looking back down at her desk, shuffling her papers distractedly. Asad uncrossed his arms and cocked his head forward a little, watching her curiously. What was she doing?
"Meri marzi, main chahe yeh karoon, main chahe woh karoon, main chahe yahan jaaoon, main chahe wahan jaaoon, MERI MARZI," Zoya began singing a really old song to herself, from the Govinda-starrer Gambler. She purposely sang the last bit out a little louder, as she flipped her laptop open and began typing away. A few seconds later, she found herself being hauled up from her chair by her elbow, before being shoved backwards until her back hit the wall behind her.
"What the hell is your problem?" Asad hissed into Zoya's face, as he pinned her against the wall by her shoulders, his hands digging into her shoulder blades. Zoya swallowed a little before pursing her lips and keeping her brave face on. She wasn't going to be intimidated by him.
"I could ask you the very same thing," Zoya bit out, matching his glare. Asad's nose twitched in annoyance at her stupid comeback, avoiding the question for no reason. He took a step forward, letting go of her shoulders and pinning her against the wall with his body directly. He stopped himself from smiling as he noted the sudden hitch in her breathing when he did that.
"I asked first," Asad pointed out, shrugging casually as his nose brushed hers. Zoya's shaky hands found their way to his back, clutching the fabric of his coat uncertainly, as his own found their way around her waist, pulling their joint forms away from the wall.
"Why are you so exasperating?" Zoya whispered, her eyes closing on their own accord as she breathed in his cologne, the scent now very familiar to his nose. A hint of a smile adorned his handsome face as the whisper reached his ears. She was admitting defeat... slowly.
"Because you're so infuriating," Asad answered, his lips brushing hers ever so slightly as he spoke. Her eyes flew open again, and she immediately found his gaze boring into her. They stayed that way for a while, entwined in each other's arms, staring at each other without blinking.
"AH OH GOSH I'm so sorry! Oh gosh, okay I'm sorry, bye," Anu announced both her arrival and departure in one line after bursting into Zoya's cabin without knocking. She shaded her eyes with her hand and began searching for the doorknob aimlessly.
"No, no it's okay, I'm sorry, I was just leaving. Um, Miss Faroo... Zoya, please drop by my cabin after you're done. I have something to discuss with you," Asad quickly clarified, as Zoya jumped out of his arms in alarm. Anu kept her eyes closed until she heard the door close again, with Asad leaving the room.
"ZOYA!! I'm so very sorry! Tum log door lock kyun nahi kardete, you know, when you guys want to... Anyway! I really didn't mean to interrupt. Waise, I don't blame him, which newlywed couple comes to work the very next day? I still don't understand why you two came in the first place. Actually, nobody understands. Are you going to have lunch with Mr Khan? What am I even asking, of course you are! I'll just go grab something with Monica. Go meet him!" Anu rambled on and on, not giving Zoya any chance to response. Not that Zoya even wanted to, the blush creeping up her cheeks was way too much to deal with as it is. She just nodded weakly, shooting her a small smile.
"Chalo!" Anu ordered Zoya, still highly embarrassed that she'd come in the way unwittingly. She held onto Zoya's arm and practically dragged her out of the cabin. She had to deposit Zoya back to Asad, or she wouldn't be able to have her lunch in peace. The guilt would eat her alive.
"I don't want to meet him, or eat with him alright? I'll just join you and Monica," Zoya finally managed to get out as Anu pulled her out of the cabin. Anu gasped loudly and shook her head in complete disapproval.
"What rubbish! There's no way you're having lunch with us. Besides, Mr Khan himself told you to meet him in his cabin. Kya pata, he might've planned something romantic in the office itself for you two," Anu speculated cheekily, the giggles following naturally. But she immediately stopped when she found Asad standing right in front of them outside the room, holding a cup of coffee.
"Mr Khan! I'm so sorry about just now, Zoya was just going to your cabin. And I'm going to leave now. For real this time! Okay, bye!" Anu rushed out, shoving Zoya's hand into Asad's free one, not realizing what she was doing in her excitement. She turned away immediately after that, practically running off, leaving Asad and Zoya standing in the middle of the corridor hand-in-hand, with random people staring at them in amusement.
"Let's go," Asad said firmly, tightening his grip on Zoya's hand as he pulled her along, walking her towards the cabin. People could stare all they wanted. There was nothing wrong with what they were doing. They'd gotten married in front of these very people didn't they?
XXXHum tum, ek cabin mein bandh ho... aur lock karna bhuljaye :p
